HI guys.
I just created two users on my tab.: the owner, and another user. On the owner account i can see my sd card in file manager, but when i log on as the other user i can only see internal storage. Do i have to tic some little box so we all see the sd card or what...cos i cant find it.
Im trying to find the same problem here but you guys usually have problems with sd not mounting...
Im on lollipop - not rooted, stock rom.
Thanks

when i want to change my sd card (that already rooted) to a better one do i it just how to copy and paste it over to the new one? and it wont mess up the root right?
You didn't root your sd card you rooted your phone. Don't have to do anything special just change card like you would anything else

so, if I change the card, what happens to all the files on the original card used for rooting?, don't I need that on the new card? I have an inspire 4g rooted with coredroid. I'll appreciate any comments!
You don't need those files any more, cause your phones already rooted.
If you want to keep any files, you can use a card reader or just through your phone copy all the files to your computer than copy them back to the new sd card.
Also, why are you posting in the G2/DZ section if you have an Inspire?

It was not my intention to post here to bother anyone, I was just looking for the specific topic and thought it would apply to any particular phone. I actually didn't even see this was for other devices, I just found the info I needed, and thanks to you Nipqer, everything is much clearer now.
No harm done, I was just wondering why you would post here out of curiosity.
Glad I could help.

Glad you got your question answered.
For future reference, here's the Inspire 4G forum listings. If you were to ask a more specific question no one in this forum can help you. You'll get more targeted help and advice from users with similar devices to yours.

Swapping Sd
Ok so I have trasfered alot of apps to my sd card. Im assuming if I change sd card that those apps wont work anymore or be on my phone?
Im thinkin I can just send back to phone then pop in new card and transfer them again. Just transfer whatever other stuff I need from my card to the new one lile ROMS PICTURES im sure that all the apps will create its own folders and directories again, so I guess my only concern is the apps being on the card?

Just use a card reader to copy all the files from the SD card to your desktop computer. Then copy them to the new SD card. Your apps will work fine.
Hey all,
Today I've finally unlocked my bootloader and installed DoomKernel. So far it's amazing.
I do have a question though, it's about the SD Card. There's so much junk on my SD Card, I just want to clean it up but what would be the best way to do so?
Is it really as simple as My Computer > Right click Phone's SD Card > Format?
Or are there some system apps I should be wary of?
I've tried some quick searches with no luck..
Thanks in advance!
I suggest use SD Formatter 3.1
You will feel the change !
Nevermind, solved.
Hey Guys,
I just recently bought my wife a 64gb micro sdcard and I was hoping I could make it the default storage for everything if possible.
What I meant about that is for caching like maps, dropbox, fxcamera, maxgo, hbogo, and many more. ( it is currently located at /sdcard0/Android/data ).
Another thing is for some apps like whatsapp/groupme/viber, to save videos/pictures there. There seems to be no settings in whatsapp to save attachments to the external.
The only thing I've managed so far is to set the camera to save to the ext sdcard, that is about it!
Is there a way to move /sdcard/Android/Data to the external SD card?
Also, is there a way to install apps to the external sd instead of internal? She just had the phone in 10 days and it is almost full
Thanks!
EDIT: Wife GN2 is stock, unrooted -> will not root ever
EDIT 2: I just read that you can't move apps to the EXT SDCard anymore with JB - but that is fine as long as I can assign cache/default directory storage of apps to the External SD .. if someone knows how to
BUMP!
I just did a lot of research and found out that with GS3 and GN2 you can't transfer app to ext SD or install apps on the ext SD anymore when in stock.
Wow, that is so bad! Three big games would fill the 16gb already. I'm pretty sure Google has a good reason for that.
Anyway, some features of the GN2 like burst shot does not allow to save pictures to the external sd card (which is fine) but is there a way to automatically transfer files from internal to sdcard, while deleting files from the internal files while doing the process. It is like rsync in Linux.
As much as possible I want the GN2 to purely use the external SD instead of the internal.
Any app that can do that? Unrooted.

That is what I use & make sure you are running a custom kernel (eg: persues) to get the addon to work.

you're going to be very limited since your wife doesn't want to be rooted.
i know the nexus 2013 doesn't have a SD card just interal storage so wtf is going on i can't save pictures from text nothing and im wanting to get this fixed so if anyone has ran into this problem before please let me know what you did to fix it cause this is really pissing me off and on top of that did a fresh reformat and new firmware an new gapps ( coming from old rom which did that same damn thing as this is doing AGAIN ) so if someone can help me figure it out i would appreciate it thank you and my system shows the sd card within root explorer i can make files folders etc etc just can't save ****
-edit still having the same issue ( it's in textfree ) an it says this "can't save no sd card found please insert one an im wanting to know since this has happened across 2 lolli custom rom updates as well as downgrade to 4.4 ( couldn't stand app compatibility with L ) so im assuming this is going to be the textfree not the tablet correct but if it is the tab how do i fix it
Ever since I converted to GPE for 6.0 then back to Sense (5.0.1 stock, rooted) I have been facing problems with my external SD Card. I know that Marshmallow handles External SD Cards a little bit differently than other versions of Android, so I decided to backup everything to my computer and then have my device format the SD card inside Sense but it still did not work.
For one thing, I can no longer backup from Titanium Backup to my External SD Card since it says "this folder is not writable" and whenever I try to delete or move anything inside ES File Explorer, a message comes up saying "please choose the root directory of ext_sd card ...." and when I try to, I get a "Documents Force Closed" error.
Any ideas on what I could do at this point? Should I try formatting the SD Card on my computer using a SD Card reader instead? I am using a Mac, by the way.
Thanks for your time.

@TarekElsakka - I know I'm bumping this thread, however I hope this is taken with leniency as searching for a solution took me a while and I hope this reply will help those who Google for the same problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59278548&postcount=4 is what you need to read. You need to explicitly change your storage provider to 'DocumentProvider storage'.

@ThePurpleK thank you for your information! I actually forgot all about this thread, but I found this solution a while ago and it fixed everything for me. Thank you again, I'm sure it will be helpful to a lot of people since everyone seems to be facing that problem with MM.
Interesting. I never knew that was even a setting in TiBu either. What I did was a little more involved. Had to edit /system/etc/permissions/platform.xml) and add a specific entry to allow a group permission to write to external storage. Check the attached image. Of course I added the highlights.

I think you missed what they were talking about.
What you suggest is not valid for android 6.0 marshmallow.
Only workable for lollipop and lower.
You're right about that. I'm not on MM yet (Verizon...) so I hadn't a clue.
