Long story short, I had recently installed the cyanogenmod to my phone, don't like it, tried to flash it back to the stock rom and the rom couldn't install. The installation wizard restarted the phone, now it's stuck on the cyanogenmod boot screen and the notification light lit as if im charging the phone, but it's not plugged up. The bad part about all of this is that the battery isn't removable so now I have to wait for phone to die I guess but is my phone now bricked? Once it dies can I recover from this by booting it up thru recovery mode?

I have the same issue. I suspect the person I let use it tried to use the options menu to reset the phone back to factory specs, which I was warned on here that would brick it, so mine is stuck in the round and round boot screen for CM. I think you're supposed to use the factory reset in CWM to delete personal stuff. I'm trying to figure out how to fix it and if I come up with something I'll let you know.

Good thing is you are not "hard bricked" just "soft bricked." Press the power button and volume up and hold till your phone reboots then immediately press the volume button and power down button to enter recovery. Then do a complete wipe, factory reset, then and only then reflash your stock CWM backup of your stock Rom . Just guessing mind you ,because I do not know every single thing you did before trying to return to stock but you should always do a full Wipe or factory reset before flashing between different roms. If your trying to flash a stock image, not a CWM backup, of your firmware you'll need to first reflash your stock recovery and relock your boot loader.
Is your phone a single SIM or dual SIM? Dual SIM phones have allot more issues on Cyanogenmod . If yours is dual SIM I'd stick to stock Rom or sense based custom roms made for our device. By the way what didn't you like about CM if your on a single SIM phone? It had a few issues but with a few tweaks you can get it working great and it's alot less bloated than stock lollipop. I'm on unofficial 12.1 CM with the a5_chl single SIM and it's fine. Having said that I had to tweak several things and I exempt dual SIM versions from my reasons for me liking this Rom. I get that it's sadly alot buggier for those phones . Let me know how things go in fixing your issue and best of luck.

First thing, some friendly advice and I truly do mean friendly, not accusing, but you should never let anyone else touch your device when it's in custom recovery. They can seriously mess it up not just"soft brick" it like yours is now.
2nd thing is the factory reset in your custom recovery doesn't have anything to do with your personal files. It's to clean your system and its data so that you can do a fresh install of a different Rom. It's called a "clean flash." A dirty flash is when your upgrading the same custom Rom and you just flash it over the previous version without wiping then clear your Dalvik cache and reboot. These wipes leave your personal files on your internal and external SD card intact unless you specifically wipe then in your custom recovery . They just call it factory reset to make it familiar to the stock Roms use of the term in my opinion. When you have this"soft brick" you can press your power button and volume up to reboot then quickly press power button and volume down to enter recovery. Then factory reset or wipe Dalvik cache if not wanting to reset and reboot one or the other should get you back into your rom.
Hope this helps and good luck plus let me know if this works to resolve your issue. Be happy to help in any way because I have been there myself in the past. Bootloops, soft bricks, etc etc................... If you can name it, I've messed it up.

Hello,
well I read a lot about rooting and flashing custom Roms the last few days and I figured I would give it a try.
I really hope I didn't break my phone, hopefully one of you Android / Defy Gurus can help me out
I rooted my phone with Super-One-Click and that worked fine, then I installed Recovery Bootstrap for Defy from a thread in this forum (can't find it at the moment) but it is this one: "bootstrap-recovery-clockwork-mod"
Anyway, that worked fine too... I make a backup (backup/restore->backup). Then did multiple factory resets and deleted the Cache as well as the dalvik cache multiple times. And then installed CM7 off the SD card.... the first time it didn't work, and it booted back to the setup of blur... I tried it again this time activating "Fix Permissions" before install... it then worked and it booted up CM7 fine.
I then wanted to go ahead and install The Google apps from here: goo-inside.me for CM7 ... did the same thing wiping the caches and then installing off of SD card... rebooted and I get stuck with the motorola logo... which just stays there and does not go away.
I rebooted multiple times (by taking out the battery) entered recovery mode with the volume button (this is the standard android recovery) tried clearing cache and rebooting, same problem... tried "wipe data / factory reset" same problem. No matter what I do it doesn't boot past the motorola logo.
Any ideas? I read about RSDLite and downloaded a stock sbf but my phone isn't recognized by RSDLite while not booted... even in the recovery utlitiy no connection is made (USB Debugging is off I think).
Any help would be very much appreciated. I am kind of freaking out, I just got the phone a few days ago
Thanks so much,
MrPink52
before u turn your phone on hold vol+ key until it loads the bootloader for rsd lite
Didn't want to make the first post overly long or complicated so here a quick update.
I read somewhere else that I could get a connection in RSDLite by holding volume up while booting and entering the bootloader... that seemed to work, so chose this SBF File "JRDNEM_U3_2.21.0" from and developers and told RSDLite to flash it... it said complete...the display then turned black... and now I don't have any image at all. It is still found in RSDLite but nothing happens when I boot... and I don't even see the logo anymore.
Now I will definetly stop trying until someone here can hopefully help me.... it seems like me trying by myself is only making things worse
Please tell me there is still hope for my Def.
Thanks,
MrPink52
When the red M logo is on the screen the led should turn blue for a few seconds, at this point press the Down Volume key & you should then go into ClockworkMod Recovery. I would try clearing the cache from there or maybe even doing a factory reset.
you will probably have to flash stock and start over

I already tried that, like I said it didn't start the ClockWorkMod but instead the standard Android recovery Utlity which only has limited options... but now as I have described, the problem has gotten worse... I can't even get in there anymore after flashing with RSDLite.

I took the one listed for Germany. My phone isn't branded so I tried to flash it with the sbf that seemed to fit.
Can you tell me exactly how I can do this correctly?
I may be doing something wrong with RSD Lite... but slowly I am really affraid I have bricked my Defy for good

That gives me hope... the problem is I can't press vol- after flashing... the screen just stays black... I can reflash it and I get white writing on the screen "Updating SW" but when its finished the screen just turns black again... and neither Vol+ nor Vol- during boot does anything.
Any further advice?
try another sbf the one ur flashing isnt the right one
it should show a gray motorola logo when u go to boot
i think this is the one u neeFull SBF name ::JRDNEM_U3_3.4.2_179-6.1_TMNAB_SIGN_SIGNED_UCAJRDNEMARAB1B80AA03A.0R_PD S03C_USAJRDNFRYOTMDE_P016_A013_M005_HWp3_Service1F F.sbfd
Do you have a direct link? I couldn't find it on the and-developers site... so a direct link would be great!
Until then I guess it can't hurt to try various sbf files to see if one works.
The only thing I am afraid of, is that my battery will dy during the flashing... is there a way to charge the battery in my current state? Or will it only charge when Android is booted?
Thanks for your support so far,
MrPink52
go here and follow directions in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175801
after reading that is the only one i could find for ya hope it works for ya
if u can get into a recovery it will charge when plugged in
I have tried some of the sbf files... and tried this one: JOREM_U3_3.4.2_177-003
that seemed to work, at least I got the logo back and could enter the Android utilities... and it seems like it is booting up blur right now... wow... what a scare.
Don't know if I will try to move to CM7 again anytime soon... I don't know what went wrong since I tried to follow tutorials.
But again thank you for your help.. I will update here again when I know for sure that everything is working
your fine dont let that scare you just wrong file its not the end of the world anyways enjoy!!!
I just did mine last night and at times it was a little scary, being the 1st time I had tried to flash a phone. I followed these directions to a point.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897445 I also used these directions pretty much combined the 2 to get the job done. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065798
When I got to the point where CM7 RC1v2 was installed along with Google Apps I then rebooted and let it all start and create all the necessary caches. I then flashed the nightly from the sd card.
I did NOT do the 3g stuff mentioned in the instructions, There is an app that will let you set your baseband for your country in the app drawer called Defy Baseband
Hi
im really hoping someone could help....
my phone decided to yet again throw another tantrum and crashed out, i first of all lost bluetooth like last time, and it kept hanging.
I restored the rom but no avail.
Stupidly i decided to wipe everything in clockwork mod and now the phone just shows up the android splash screen flashes and then shines again.
ive tried going into safe mode (vol - and power) but the phone fails to launch it. all it does is vibrate then continue onto the android screen
am i up the creek?
thanks for your help

try the suggestions in this thread?
(simple search brought this up)
I'm curious, did you full wipe and then try to reboot without first flashing a rom? I've always wondered what would happen if you did that, not keen to try it myself
I am not new to the concept of rooting and loading a custom rom. This is the 3rd android phone that I have bothered with. However it is the first one I have had to use Odin to root or push files to.
I have used CarpeNoctem's writeup on how to root and utkanos' CWMR port writeup. Ofter verifying I had root, I decided I would try out Carpe's OsiMood. No problem right? Here is where I am wondering what if anything went wrong on the previous steps.
I made a back up ofter finally getting it to recovery mode, and when I tried flashing the new rom, it would not complete the process.
As it sits, when I choose recovery from CWM it reboots to the android with triangle screen(see attached video). What concerns me is the lack of fluidity into the recovery, the fact that it loads in only after the battery is removed and the phone is turned back on and lastly that I cannot flash a new rom.
It appears as though I need more posts to add my link for youtube.
Please add standard youtube weblink before this to watch the video.

What would you recommend my first action be?
Thanks,
Steve
This also quite unfortunate for ROM manager, "somewhat", not working fully for the Glide (yet). I can't really go into 3e/CWM recovery with the app, but manually (volume down + power/lock button) has no problems. This also happens on my Captivate (SGH-I896/7), I need to restart the device for a second time to boot into recovery. As per your flashing issues, you might need to mount /system manually and then flash the ROM, when it fails, try and try again, always happens to me from stock rogers ROM. Also, if you have Titanium Backup, it now supports reboot device features (recovery and hard reboot)
Thanks for your insight. I tried volume down and power before but when I saw the samsung logo pop up I figured it wouldn't work.
I will try flashing again and report back. Thanks again.
-Steve
Tried flashing again, worked great. If only the glide had more support. Lol.
Currently running OsiMood.

My glide does not boot. I can get into Download Mode. I can NOT get into de recovery mode. I think my NAND is corrupted.
How can I mount the /system partition? Because I flashed too many roms with ODIN, but nothing, still not booting, I get stuck in the samsung logo.
Use Odin to reflash recovery, you backups should still be there unless like you say maybe they got corrupted as well, but its worth a shot.

I've already flashed the stock recovery, the CWM, a lot of kernels, even I tried to flash the kernel and bootloader of the Galaxy S II, but nothing.
I'm starting to think that maybe is a hardware problem. Hope not, but I'm not moving foward.
If you havent already, pull out the sim and sd card.
Reboot your pc and download a fresh up to date Odin.
So when you flash it says it successful and then just doesnt boot?
I had a boot loop once ,had me stumped and it turned out to be my sd card was poached and caused the loop.

Exactly... It goes all over the process bar, says succesfull, the phone turns off, and nothing. The phone not even restart itself, I have to remove the battery, put it back again, and then it turns on, but just to show me the samsung logo.
I've used the ODIN version 1.85 and the new one 3.04. But nothing. This is so frustating.

I've opened a thread with all the symptoms of my bricked phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2035742
Please, tell me there is a solution...
There are one alternative to boot
1. Shut down and then restart phone in recovery mode. For the Samsung Captivate Glide, this required pressing the power, volume down and home keys all at the same time.
2. The initial screen which appears gives you a choice of loading a replacement OS (volume up) or entering recovery mode (volume down). Note you have to hold the volume down key for several seconds before the recovery mode menu appears.
Hi there, I NEED URGENT HELP!
I bricked my e739, and I am running out of the options. All I see is the LG logo, I can not access my recovery mode, I tried numerous times (and before i succeed now the logo doesn't even blink it stays the same) hard reset...nothing, tried adb recovery (does not see the device).
So here is the story, I successfully updated my ROM to e739 Nightly 6. After using it for a bit, I decided to go back to stock, and just wait until all bugs are worked out. So i tried to go back to my backup that I made of stock, but no dice it got me in recovery loop, after that I tried to go factory reset, nothing. I couldn't find any way to go back to stock, so I made it my mission to reset the phone. Here where I [email protected] up, I read that using e730 (older) rom will let me out this loop and allow me to get back to the stock. So here are my steps of mischief: installed Nightly ROM 12 for e730-> then I flashed the device to LG optimus Black (dont ask why...I realize it is stupid) -> and through privacy setting clicked for factory reset. Now I am in this bootloop.
I will take any suggestions please help, it really sucks in the stone age, with edge speeds.

Hold Power and Volume Down, then after 3 seconds hold Menu and Back (not home) and when the LG logo pops up, release the Power button but keep holding Vol-, Menu, and Back.
It may take some try a to get it right.

I am not sure what to do now. I want try to hard reset your way but I can get the phone to respond anyway unless it is plugged in.
Well plug it in lol
I've had several bootloops myself trying to get to stock, but i always got to acces recovery and flash CM again. And now that tthe RC was released, i don't see why i should return to stock.

Hello, I have been having some issues with my LG E739[KW], the device was working properly. I rooted install CLOCKWORK custom recovery. After that I installed, CM9 then later CM7, the CM7 worked okay but i opted to revert to Stock So I used the LG SUPPORT TOOL to flash back to stock ROM. however after having done so the phone has been stuck in boot loop ever since. After flashing the stock ROM the phone never made it past the boot screen, and when I remove the Battery reinsert it and try to turn the phone on I get the S/W update screen. Where I have to flash it again for the phone to boot only to be stuck at the boot animation. I have also tried flashing it VIA the KDZ method but its the same result. Please Help !!!
I have read several other threads but no one ever quite seemed to resolve the problem. Shortly after i unlocked my phone (freegee method) i decided to switch back from aosp to stock. after it connected to wifi or data network my phone reboots every time it connects. i tried using a teeny bin but it changes my bootloader and i think thats whats causing my bootloops when i try to provision it. flashing a full stock bin isnt helping either because my phone refuses to fully boot up its just hanging at the bootanimation.
so essentially i can flash myself into a stock based rom but i cant provision anything or switch roms because ill have to repeat the whole process.

you need to do a full wipe. This happened to me as well before. This is how I fixed it
in TWRP, go to advance wipe, and wipe system along with data, davilk, an cache. This will fully wipe your rom so be prepared to install a rom afterwards. It will not wipe your sdcard.
Th a t was the first thing i tried. I would like to just be able to flash a full bin at this point. Im really not sure why its not booting fully after flashing and i havent even been able to get a bugreport. If anyone knows how to pull apart one of the bins and all the partitions of this phone ill just do everything 1 by 1
Lngpst to stock (unrooted and locked), root it, use the freegee special sbl unlock method, then flash. I have the sane thing happen every time I try to come back to a stock based ROM after going aosp based. Reboots on any data connectivity.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
Every time I try to restore with lgnpst it'll hang up at the boot animation and refuse to fully boot. I used the full zvb to try it. Ive already downloaded it twice in case I had a bad file. Right now I kinda want to know why our phone s do this.

1. How and/or what is being changed on the bootloader? Do you mean recovery?
2. When you flash back to stock from ASOP, is it hanging at the 4GLTE screen? If that's what you mean then:
3. If you're stuck at the 4glte screen: To get to stock recovery - Power off phone. You need to hold power button for about 20 sec to get it to turn off. Then press and hold vol down+power - The LG logo will come on, then the capacitive lights. Immediatly let go when the capacitive lights turn on. It takes a few seconds to work. Data wipe/Factory reset. Reboot.
