Change default Download folder to SD Card - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know how to change the default Download folder from internal storage to SD card?
(when you download something from any internet browser)
I remember doing it on my old M8 but I can't remember how I did it.
I think on other Android phones in in Settings, then Storage, but it's not there on the M9 so not sure if I'm looking in the right place.

I have no idea, let us know if you got it working.

I am having a problem where none of my apps can be moved to SD card and nothing can be saved there unless I place it there using a root browser. I have it mounted, but I am still almost running out of space.

Has anyone solved this? I need to fix it.

This
chrome://flags/#enable-downloads-location-change
Enable it.
Restart browser.
Then in the overflow on the top right of chrome go to settings/downloads and change the first option to external sdcard.
Be careful what you mess with in chrome://flags as you can make your phone unstable and unsecure.

Ok from what i have read might have been a bit easier doing a backup before you swapped out . Your apps you should be able to get working by reinstalling them by using a file explorer like Astro - Just because the APK file is on your card does not mean it will automatically go onto your phone - you may well lose some of your previous data doing this depending what was stored on the card before. basicly your apps that were on the card are still there but they arent installed on the new desire so there's nothing showing in the app folder - reinstalling them again tells the phone that they are there.
thanks, but how do I know which apps I had I can not remember all.
What about my web page bookmarks?

Bookmarks i have no idea if these even would have been installed on your sdcard..
plug your phone into your pc set the phone to disk drive mode and take a look.. in windows click start>search select the drive letter for your phone card search for all files or folders and in the search box put "*.apk" without the "" this will search for all the apk files you had on your sd card.

[Q] How do you permanently disable froyo apps2sd?

I've tried to search all of XDA, but I could find anyone wanting to fully disable froyo's apps2sd.
I prefer to use DT a2sd on my ext3 partition. With using Ti backup and installing from the market, some apps get installed on the SD in the .android.secure folder. Its a pain for me to one-by-one move them off the SD and back onto the phone, so DT a2sd moves them to the ext3.
So, does anyone know how to disable froyo's apps2sd? I'm using a sense ROM if that matters.
Thanks!
Bump. Back to the top.
Anybody? I know there's some smart people in XDA that would know how to do this.

Looking for an answer to this as well.
There are apps to sd apps that let you move all apps on sd to internal memory, but I've never used one.
I know in cyanogenmod there's an option in settings to choose install location for apps (internal/external/automatic) but I'm not sure about your rom. If you're using stock I know it isn't there but otherwise you could check your settings.
Sorry I couldn't give you a better answer.

That's the file I'm looking for. I've read in a Droid forum somewhere there's a . sh file that can be edited to have the same effect as cyanogen's option.
I'm on a sense based ROM, and I can't find that file.

I see it. I think someone had discussed a "<some name>.sh" file to edit that sounds like what the cyanogen setting does.
I opened the sh file you pointed to and it just came up with gibberish.
Bumpy.
Come'on, someone had to of done this mod....

I don't have a direct solution for you, but this app might help ease the pain:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.a0soft.gphone.app2sd&feature=search_result
It's designed to help people go the other way around, but it groups apps into three tabs -- On Phone (movable), on the SD card, and phone only. You could use the "On SD Card" tab to help you find the apps that are on the SD card, and you can click on one to go right to the app page and move it back.
You'll want to turn off "Notifications" under settings, as that feature notifies you when apps can be moved the SD card, which isn't what you're wanting to do.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll keep this in my back pocket.
The reason I'm looking for this mod is to avoid having apps default to the SD card when I restore them from Ti backup or purchase them from the market. Some apps (like angry birds for example) will default to SD card when available.
I'm trying to trick the system into thinking the SD is not available for app installs.

You could try this, but backwards. At the very end it tells you how to set it to internal memory. I'm not sure if location 0 is internal or automatic. Since location 2 is external, location 1 might be internal. You could try both. Hope this helps.

Awesome! Now that's what I was looking for!
Not sure what "pm" command does, but it took. I set it to zero; now I need to find a way to test it. Just I'll have to disable Dark Tremors a2sd and verify. If someone has tested this, let me know if zero is the right setting to force only internal installation.
Here's the followup question: Where is "setInstallLocation" defined in the system (file)?
That way I can use root explorer to verify the setting and not just push a value with the terminal or adb.
Thanks again!

Apps on SD disappeared???

Hi everyone,
In panic mode right now...
I downloaded an app that helps you find all your apps that can be moved to the sd card. So it found 150 or so. After an hour of manually moving each one, I had over 400mb of free internal space and only like 40 apps left on the main phone storage. Awesome... but then this morning I noticed that things were running real slow... so I rebooted my phone. When it came back up I noticed some of my home screen shortcuts had become generic android icons. I went to my launcher & lots of apps were missing. I have a LOT of apps so I can't quite confirm yet whether its all the apps I moved to sd but it seems that way.
When I go to the market I see apps that I had yesterday as not installed. I have astro but I'm not quite sure what folder to look in to see if the apps are all still there, just not being seen by the android system maybe?
I've been driving all morning so I haven't gotten to research this much yet. Just rebooted a couple times hoping to fix it but no luck yet.
Any help is majorly appreciated. As soon as I'm at a computer ill be working on this all day. Freakin disaster!

update to my question
so now that i'm in to work i can mess with this... quick update...
when i go to manage applications and go to "on SD card" i get a big list of apps that have the names like "cn.miren.browser" instead of Miren Browser and "com.alphonso.pulse" instead of Pulse which is kinda normal except usually they then refresh with the regular name and the size listed underneath. well it's been sitting here for 5 minutes now and hasn't change and it still says "Computing..." under each one and instead of the normal icons, its sort of a grayed out generic Android icon with an SD in the bottom right corner of the icon.
so clearly it still knows that these apps are there. it just maybe can't access them? i dont know. could it be the sd card? this is the original 8gb sd card that came with the g2...
any thoughts?
???
so i found out that the sd card had some errors in the file system. so i let windows fix the errors. no help (although my phone boots WAAAAAYYYYYY faster now).
so then i found that i have an extra 8gb microsd laying around (which also happened to be a better, class 6 one too). so i cleared it off and copied over alllll the files to it. booted up. STILL NO GO.
anyone have any ideas here? i'm really running out of ideas here.
when i boot, everything runs great, but all my apps that are installed to sd are gone. also it never says "preparing sd card" in the status bar when booting. then if i go to manage applications it never finishes "computing" the size of apps. if i go to "on sd" it shows all my apps, but says computing, and i can't access them, uninstall them, move them, etc. i'm totally out of ideas here and i really don't want to have to do a system restore.
anyone?
think im having the same problem . has ur market gone too?
fix?
ok so i ended up getting mine fixed using these steps that someone from a company that makes an apps2sd app sent me... the only difference i had to do was since my phone also wouldn't recognize my pc, i had to pop the sd card into my pc directly to delete the .android_secure folder... i don't want to mess up your phone or anything so make sure to read around a bit more before trying this, but this is what worked for me. after i started adding all my apps back one by one i've been fine ever since.:
"I guess the problem is ".android_secure" is not recognized by Android.
Would you try the following steps (I am not sure if it works)?
1. mount phone with PC
2. backup all files under .android_secure
3. delete .android_secure directory
4. unmount
5. try to move an app (any app) to SD card (it forces Android to
create .android_secure on SD)
6. mount phone with PC
7. restore all backuped .android_secure/* files to .android_secure
8. unmount => check if it recognized the apps that you moved to the SD card"

[Q] Unable to see storage card when running on Android

Hi all,
I am trying to get android to work on my old Tilt2 for my fiance so we can play games together. I've gone through all the steps by adding the correct files to the root of the storage card and running Haret. Every thing seems to work "fine" other than the fact that I can't see a storage card while in Android. I tried to partition my SD card to see if that would help but I am unable to determine the proper way to do that. Any help would be appreciated
Do you have some type of file manager installed on Android? I know that I could always see it, with the exception of the Android folder on my card.

I've said this 100x, not sure why it never shows up on people's searches...
But backup all the data on the card. Format the card (full format, FAT32) using the HP Tool. Restore all the data on the card after the format, or start over fresh doesn't really matter. Apps should now be able to see the card, etc.
I'm not concerned about apps seeing the storage card. I don't have a "My Files" app that will let me navigate the card. Do I need to download a file manager in order for it to work?
I fixed it.. I had to download a file management app I feel dumb now.

Astro is pretty good, and is included in AndroidApps folder IIRC.

Amusingly, I use multiple file storage apps. Super Manager for making system files r/w, and file expert for the look and feel. I have astro too, on my other phone, but only really use it for enabling all file type downloads from the web.

Changing default download storage to external SD

Title basically says it all. This should be a simple task but for the life of me I cannot find how to change the default download location to external storage. Honestly it should be as simple as changing storage options but LG in their infinite wisdom decided to make it either convoluted as hell or something that isn't even possible.
Okay, I've tried the download2sd xposed module and it seemed to be fairly simple and straightforward to change where I wanted my downloaded files to go... BUT when I download files that sound like orrents (XD) my file downloader of choice says I cannot locate the file. So obviously download2sd needs a certain path structure that LG doesn't use.
Can anyone shed some light on any possible solution? I've searched the threads and there are people asking about other issues but not this specific issue. Yes I CAN just manually move the files to my sd card after downloading them but that kind of defeats the purpose of not using the internal drive for this process anymore. The fact we can't just change preferred download location to external storage is derp as hell.
The only way I know of is by using the default browser--> Settings--> Advanced--> "Select download storage", and change it to the SD card.
I actually just downloaded a different downloader client and it had the option to change the path built into the app itself. I had to download the SDFix apk to allow me to even save to external storage since google removed that option in Kit Kat. Good to go now. Thanks for trying to help though
thank you

I did that and it is STILL sending stuff to the "Downloads" folder and there is no way to get it to the SD Drive from there.
I have to send it to the Cloud and I don't want to send it to the cloud. I don't want anything to go there.
I am referring specifically to a PDF I tried to download as an experiment. It was about 12 MG and it reduced the internal storage but not the external storage amount.
It's making me absolutely crazy and I will not be able to do anything else until I figure this out.
works on my LG Stylo thanx for the tip
