Ok, I have spent roughly a week searching these forums and the rest of the web for a way to root my verizon S4 mini. I have tried everything, towelroot, kingo, saferoot, all the odin methods listed. Nothing works, everything fails and never achieves root status. I am starting to think that it's impossible, can anyone point me in the direction of a method that is test to work on the most recent kernel for this phone? I am sorry to post a new thread but it's my last resort before giving up. Remember, Ihave a verizon SCH-i435 not one of the GT models, there seems to be tons of information on those models but nothing much for the verizon.

Hello all. Noob to Samsungs altoogether, been with HTC for years. Anyway, I am wanting to root my GN2, however I have MA7. I have searched, and searched, AND searched for rooting methods for this modem. I haven't found any concise instructions on how to root. I have seen various threads with suggestions on backward flashing and such, but like I said, they were various. Can someone PLEASE point me in the right direction or tell me EXACLTY what I need to do in order to root my GN2? Thanks in advance!

If you've flashed to MA7 OTA, then use can use this -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923956
And pick the LJC option. Works like a champ. (Option 42 I believe)
You might want to check his website, as I believe he is up to 3.2.0 now.

Thanks mw6886!
I guess I forgot to mention that I tried using that toolkit as well as option 42. Whenever I do, the toolkit menu gets stuck on "copied 1 file.....OK" and doesn't do anything else. Once I got as far as it actually putting my phone in DOWNLOAD mode and says wait for ODIN, but ODIN NEVER came up. Any other suggestions? I will check his website for updated version.
The CF (chainfire) root method works as well.

Thanks to y'all. I used the mskip toolkit. Apparently something is wrong with my laptop that wouldn't allow it to be done properly. Had to run the toolkit 4 times just to get the phone to root! But I am not rooted on MA7!
I attempted to root my Galaxy S3 (SCH-530M) From Metro PCS. I used odin and follow instructions carefully. I have rooted other phones this is my first problem I have ever stumbled upon this problem. I used a toolkit which allowed me to ROOT my phone but now I only get "Galaxy S3" logo and then screen turns black. I can boot into "safe mode" it shows clear cache, factory reset, ect.
I tried to follow instructions here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219755
Here are errors I received:
<ID:0/004> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
"Secure Check Fail" Sbl1 message. shows on my phone.
I am little frustrated been at this since 10am it is now 5PM. I can boot into recovery mode, phone turns on starts and everything but it stays on black screen and my led on top left side flashes bright blue.
Any info is a major thank you. I wish I can here to contribute but sadly I am in this bind.....I attached a screenshot from my desktop to show you guys what errors say.
The first thing you need to know is not all S3's are the same. Never flash anything not for your model phone.
The second is yours is an older metro model from when they were tied to Sprint I think it was. What this means is that it's a variant of Sprints model, and so you will be better off using their forum for future flashes and help. Do not flash anything you find here. They are not compatible.
Third is I don't recommend the toolkit. It's usually out of date and while it was helpful to some in the beginning, it now seems to cause more problems than anything. If you want root, search for root66 firmware in the Sprint forum. He may have your version there as well.
Finally, I didn't read the thread you linked, but 95% of the time, a factory reset will solve the hanging at boot.
I also highly recommend reading the stickies threads. Lots of great info you should know about and there are several methods to gain root.
For the Odin problem. Makes sure kies is NOT installed, try different cables and different usb ports.

Thanks for advice but I think you missed a few things I pointed out. I am using a Metro PCS S3 the model you linked me too for root66 .tar is for Verizon S3 not Metro PCS. Verizon is i535 and mines is R530M would that also mess up my phone even more? I HAVE tried factory reset and cache wipe. Nothing is working phone stays stuck on black screen AFTER boot logo.
I went o sprint forums they told me my phone is NOT the same as theirs. I am aware of various S3 models it was many said to use ODIN and it caused me a world of problems right now.

I couldn't be sure if mrRobinson had made the root66 firmware for your model or not. If he did it would've most likely been in Sprints or maybe Verizon's root66 threads. All I meant was for you to check their threads to see if your variant was there. In ours, for example, there is also the T999V firmware, which is related to our T999, but is different.
What I am fairly sure of is your model is a CDMA device, like Sprints and Verizon's. T-Mobile and AT&T are GSM. When T-Mobile bought metro they stopped offering the R530, and replaced it with the T999N. Prior to this several people asked me for help with their R530M, and the best I could do was direct them to Sprints forum where others had posted about that model.
I suggested going there because there are people with the same model and they may have run into similar issues. And even if they haven't the rest of the info in that forum would be more relevant to your device than what you find here.
I'm not sure why you are having trouble with Odin. I've seen in other models forums where sometimes you may need something more, or something different than just the stock firmware. I don't know if that could help you or not, so I'm just trying to get you pointed in the direction where you might find someone who can.
There are some issues that are universal with things like Odin, but usually it ends up being a problem with the computer, the usb cable, bad/corrupted downloads, etc. Which is why I mentioned those. But you mentioned an error that showed on your phone, an sbl1 secure boot error or something like that. To my knowledge none of the GSM devices have ever shown this. Not that I remember anyway. But it may have something to do with a locked boot loader like Verizons, or it could be something entirely different. But again, you'd likely have better luck finding similar problems in the others forums.
If you can verify some roms that will work on yours, you may consider flashing CWM or TWRP using Odin. Then try flashing the Rom from recovery, factory reset and reboot. May not help, but it's something to try. Also, make sure you downloaded the latest firmware for your model and try it again.
If I get a chance I'll try to help find out more for you. But for now I hope that helps clarify what I was saying before and helps get you pointed in the right direction.
This would be a bit of a long shot, but you could go to your local store and see if they will offer some sort of trade for the T999N. (Doubtful, but it can't hurt to ask) Now that metro is with T-Mobile, you're likely to get better service with it, unless they've got something worked out where devices like yours can still use Sprint towers/networks.

Hey there guys!
New to this site and the world of android modding and just bought myself a new S4 Mini from my cell carrier (FIDO). Im pretty tech savvy when it comes to computers and whatnot but i figured id do some research into it and found this site
Ive been reading on the forums and whatnot about rooting this phone but all i can seem to find are guides on the older GT-I9195 and 9190 moddels.
So i guess what my question is (and forgive me if its been asked a trillion times but im newb) is that is it possible to root this phone ,SGH-1257M, and still retain the same model number and all the features that comes with the phone ? and if so is there a CLEAR guide to doing so, i have cookies ;P (from what ive read it gets put as a GT-I9195 or 9190 and thats not what im looking for).
Im not worried about voiding my KNOX warranty as i have a plan with FIDO that offers replacement phones with no questions asked (water dmg etc) so if need be ill mess up the phone before i replace it.
Ive tried once using this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470173&page=7 from the guys suggestion at the bottom but once its done i keep getting TONS of KNOX notifications stating something is trying to access the system and its prevented it. Plus when i use root checker it says it has failed.
Im assuming this means try again but im just asking to be sure before i continue to flash my device lol. I have the stock rom for my device downloaded from Sammobile so if need be i can restore it to stock again (ive done that already once using odin) and start over.
Thanks in advance to anyone who helps a fellow modder out
Cheers!
ExiLe
Anyone!? I have the newest MK5 update btw. If i have to downgrade (if there is a possibility in doing so) i will do it. I really want to be able to get rid of all the bloatware and overclock etc. Thanks a ton!

I am complete noob on rooting, flashing, etc. I am hoping that someone will post instructions for SGH-I257M in detail, that a technically competent but noob to this process can follow. As it is now you have to go to a few different places, gather and analyze the procedures, understand as best you can, and take your chances.
If you do this please post your results, in detail.
The SGH-I257M is a Canadian model. I am in London ON. Are you nearby?

Hey man thanks for the reply. I have managed to root the phone successfully using the I9195 Method (For LTE) without flashing the kernel over (and therefore changing the phone model to I9195) and kept my sgh-i257m model number. Pretty sweet!
The only issue im having now is HORRIBLE battery drain occuring (I can literally watch it go down when im using the phone):victory:. I know flashing the I9195 kernel should in theory fix this but im afraid that if I do that ill never be able to get back to the sgh I257m model even if I have the stock rom (they are on sammobile).
If someone can confirm that I can indeed flash back to sgh model then ill gladly loose the features for better batter life! Otherwise I might just stick with an unrooted device for now and see if anything comes up soon
Possibly Figured It OUT!!!!
Ok so after a few days of playing around and reading a TON i think i have successfully figured out how to root the s4 mini SGH-i257m model and still retain that model number.
The steps are quite simple as you just follow the GT-i9195 rooting guide to the letter which can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364980.
After rooting using this method you will indeed trip the KNOX flag so be sure to be aware of that BEFORE you continue.
Once I did that and checked with root checker app i was beyond excited. But pretty much right away I was plagued with battery drain issues from hell (i could watch it drain a % a minute at some points) but i was VERY wary about flashin the GT-i9195 kernel because i still wanted all the features my phone model added (i know im a stickler). But after only using my phone for 5 hrs total (most of it standby time in school) and having only 8 % left i could not deal
So i flashed the gt-i9195 kernel onto my phone, reboot and expected my phone to say gt-i9195 model but its still SGH-i257m!!!
So basically just follow the GT-i9195 root instructions and your good to go as far as i know. Even the battery issues seem to have disapeared
hope this helps out any other Canadian s4 Mini owners out there, as i know this was frustrating for me in the beginning.
If you were to install CyanogenMod 11's latest nightlies, you will still retain the model number thanks to arco68

Thanks again for the reply
I didn't see a section dedicated to the virgin mobile galaxy s3 so I thought I should make one.I have the sphl710 with the new baseband nj3 and I know many others like me have questions like. How to get root back if they lost it? How to root now? if there are any one click methods that will work as of now? And other General questions I've had and I've seen many others have had. So the answers I've came to are
# The only way I've seen people getting root back after the update is with philz recovery.
# How to root now? Well that's my question to.
# Is there any one click methods that work as of now? No , well from what I've seen. All the new firmware is having that problem. Towel root won't work on Sprint galaxy s3 with a baseband of nj2 and nj3 from what I've seen and tried. Same with farmaroot it worked great before but until it gets a update it won't work. Other than those main ones I've tried allot of other one click methods to no prevail. So your not alone in that.
If you have comments or questions or both feel free to ask and discuss. Let's try to be new user friendly because we've all been there not knowing what anyone else is taking about.so let's not make anyone feel stupid. Thanks
I've rooted my Virgin Mobile S3 in the last couple of months with the NJ3 modem, and I found this page to be of great help: http://androidforums.com/forums/virgin-mobile-galaxy-s3-all-things-root.2292/ Specifically, I used the All-In-One Custom ROM User Guide by struckn: http://androidforums.com/threads/all-in-one-custom-rom-user-guide.791952/ It's a little outdated, but it doesn't matter.
I read through the whole thing, but you really only need the rooting part in the beginning if you want stock rooted with a custom recovery. I have Philz, as it is what the guide said to use, and everything works smoothly. The guide also covers good custom ROMs if you want those (after I made a Nandroid backup of stock, I played with a few ROMs before sticking with Android Ice Cold Project v8)
A side note: When I was completely new to this, I was perplexed by Odin. I used it after finding a download for it somewhere (there is no official download, as it is leaked software), but I'd recommend giving Heimdall a try first ( http://glassechidna.com.au/heimdall/ ), instead. Also, Heimdall is cross-platform, so you don't have to use a Windows computer to root!
Hello everyone,
I've tried for days now to root my Note 4.
I'm pretty much at my wits end and have scoured the internet for answers.
I've tried at least 10 different guides if not more.
The issue is that I can never get the initial temp root to work.
Kingroot and Oneclick root have tried multiple(like dozens) of times and they each eventually tell me that there is no solution or whatever for my device but that i can request it.
I've tried running the root apps on the device and from the pc.
Yes I used the eMMC checker and my code starts with 15
I've tried with the sd card in and out.
I was able to roll back to 5.1.1 which is where i have been trying.
Is there another version that is more easily rootable?
Have all the root exploits been patched or something?
Thank you for any help/insight in advance.
this tutorial did it for me
Hello everyone.
this is my first post here and i would like to share my experience with rooting..
i don't have privileges to include outside links yet so you are going to have to search...
user Bobby8451 has a youtube tutorial. (search the forum or youtube)
i tried probably a dozen times with other tutorials but they didn't do it for me. i ended up bricking the phone and having to use verizon's recovery to get to stock and start all over again.
above tutorial has all the files needed in one package and step by step instructions that are VERY detailed.
there is a part 2
once you are done with part 2, you should search for the latest modem and twrp and you should be set.
