Hi,
Does anyone have stock recovery that will work with Vodafone UK HTC One M9, my current firmware is 1.32.161.15. I flashed TWP but forgot to make a backup of my stock recovery first.
will i just be able to use this: M9 1.32.401.15 recovery.img?? Answer: No, it needs the correct carrier version and must match the firmware.
one more question,
I now have a full backup of my M9 from TWRP but have not rooted yet as I am unsure how to ensure that System integrity is restored from my backup in order to recieve OTA's again
, I read that i could use fastboot to flash system.img but this is not contained in my backup. the system backup files are as follows.
system.emmc.win
system.emmc.win.md5
Edit: I now know this is the System partition
Thanks
OK I have found that I can just extract system.emmc.win from my backup and rename it to system.img so im good for that now. I still need to know if I need the original 1.32.161.15 recovery or if i can just use the non carrier 1.32.401.15 recovery anyone able to advise me?
i think i found the recovery:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934550711
Thanks so much for finding that, I'll let you know if its good.
That didnt work keep getting cannot load "recovery.img whenever I use " fastboot flash recovery recovery.img ", does anyone have a Vodafone UK HTC One M9 on software 1.32.161.15 that can dump the stock recovery for me?
update: I got it to flash after rebooting my PC, hopefully the OTA will install this time.
worked a treat thanks dusu84, does anyone want to add https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934550711 as the Vodafone stock recovery for 1.32.161.15 into this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/stock-nand-backup-ota-update-collection-t3132698

So I was wondering how I can return my HTC Desire (CDMA) to stock. I have an OTA update that I got from my friend's desire I also have a nandroid backup of the original sense.
Is there any way to convert the OTA update so it is a flashable zip I can use on CWM?
The other thing is can anyone help me if I post the update?

Flash the downgrader from Alpharev (if necessary), then either use the appropriate RUU or restore your nandroid backup from recovery.

If I had an RUU that would make it simple but all I have is an OTA update. And I saw somewhere that I can't really flash an OTA update with CWM. Also restoring the nandroid from recovery would look stock but it will still have root. I am just trying to get it back to factory stock rom and recovery with no root.
Looking at the files in the OTA there is a firmware.zip that has a new hboot, recovery and radio. But I am just not sure and where to start for creating a flashable zip with the OTA.
I uploaded the OTA I have if anyone can help me create a flashable zip or just tell me what to do. http://www.4shared.com/file/0b8ls5sf/OTA_Bravo_C_S_UTSTARCOM_WWE-Ge.html
Before you do that... ask yourself what could possibly be the most important question before you take the chance of breaking your phone: "What's the point?"

I don't want to flash a rooted OTA I have an OTA that my carrier pushed out for 2.2 update. I want to create a flashable zip with the OTA that I can use in CWM to remove root and restore the phone to stock and possibly the recovery as well.

Then that is not the way to procede..You cant flash non-rooted OTAs on CWM..Well, you can, but it will just bungle up the whole setup.. What you can do is to flash an RUU and revert it to stock, then flash the OTA with the stock recovery to get it update

No. That's impossible.. Well there was a way, if you'd thought about it earlier...to create a backup after a revolutionary S-off, then do whatever you want with the phone..and then finally when you wanted to restore, you could have restored the unrooted backup, then stock recovery and then finally Stock Hboot in that order... But now, there will no way other than to use an RUU of another carrier.

Well I do have a unrooted backup but the only recovery that I have is the one in the OTA. Would it be possible to install that recovery and still be able to do an update using the OTA file?
Best course of action would be to restore your backup, followed by the following in order:
Prerequisites: S-off, Goldcard, An RUU confirmed to work with your device (Any region/WWE).
Steps:
Restore your backup with CWM. Ensure that it boots.
Extract recovery.img from the stock RUU (which should be working on your device normally)
In fastboot mode, and after going to the dir containing fastboot.exe (from sdk):
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot-recovery
Ensure that recovery works.
Then, using the hboot.img from the RUU,
Code:
fastboot flash hboot hboot.img
(the hboot extension may not be .img in the zip. Probably it's .nb0. Rename it)
Dont use OTA files at any point. You can update with it after successfully returning to stock with your backup.
Flashing hboot should be the last thing you do..Once the stock hboot makes you S-on, fastboot commands become inaccessible to you.
Thanks for the info, I think I am finally on track now. I was able to restore back to stock sense and was finally able to fix my mms issues(ro.cid problems after using unrevoked). Now I just need to figure out which ruu to take the recovery and hboot from.
I did find the alltel bravo_c ruu on shipped-roms.com hopfully that will work. Is there any sure way to know if the recovery will work or not on my phone?
I am with GCI its a local carrier in Alaska. I remember from my hero that alltel and my carrier had some similarities, along with cellsouth
Edit:
I just finished downloading the Alltel RUU and the HBOOT looks to be the same version. Also the Radio listed in the file name is the same as I currently have.
So I guess it is pretty safe to say that this recovery and hboot will work with my phone right?
The only sure way is to flash it. However make sure that the RUU is relatively new and has a version number greater than 1.2 and that you flash GSM one if you're on GSM, and CDMA if it's a CDMA phone.
bravoc=CDMA
bravo=GSM
Dont mix these...otherwise you'll end up with a black screen and a panic attack
There's another method to find if RUU is compatible, which is to open the zip and read the text file inside..See my Desire Unbricking guide and Goldcard FAQ link
Well I got it all back to stock, I still have s-off but everything else is stock and the latest FW my carrier pushed out.
I was having a problem using fastboot to flash the recovery so I just made a PB99IMG.zip to flash the recovery then everything else(hboot radio) everything is working fine thanks for all the help!
Hello All,
So I recently bought a M8 and I just need some help in getting the steps nailed down correctly. Be warned long post with lots of questions...
Code:
fastboot getvar version-main
version-main: 3.32.111.3
fastboot oem readcid
(bootloader) cid: T-MOB101
That is basically my device, now due to it being 4.4.4 from factory I am unable to use Sunshine & Weaksauce. I could wait until the new year but why
bother .
First step:
Get my factory firmware image after reading this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376 due to it being a T-Mobile and
Germany and 4.4.4 I am unable to run the command listed there to get the stock recovery, so how do I get the stock recovery for my device? @BerndM14
Has provided me with a link to download the latest firmware for my device but it has the TWRP recovery inside it, link is this one: http://www.handy-
faq.de/forum/htc_one_m8_custom_roms/304821-htc_one_m8_firmwaresammlung_ruus_otas_backups.html#post2832636. I should point out that I do have a OTA
waiting to download and install, should I download and install it? The version listed on the screen is 3.32.111.9 and is only 183.73MB. Would it have a
viable stock recovery? Can I downgrade to a older version for the stock recovery?
Second step:
Once the above is done and dusted my next step is getting root & S-OFF & custom recovery. This is relatively simple because all I need to do is visit
HTCDev, unlock and then S-OFF with Sunshine and then a custom recovery. Correct? Sounds and looks simple enough.
Third step:
Download ROM of choice and flash away. So I am going with InsertCoin due to user loyalty from the Desire days . However I see people in the thread
mentioning that they flashed the latest firmware to sort out a couple of issues, I take it they mean the ROM file and not HTC firmware?
Fourth and probably not needed step:
Changing the phone to WWE and SuperCID? Do I really need to do this? Benefit of changing to WWE is changing the HBOOT to a more universal one? The
reason why I am thinking of converting is because I would want to get rid of the red text on the boot screen as listed here: http://forum.xda-
developers.com/showpost.php?p=51744965&postcount=1 however for T-Mobile Dutch the HBOOT CIDS are T-MOB003, if I flash that would it cause a problem?
I would also be looking at running the commands to change the flags showing tampered and unlocked but that looks simple to do. Am I missing anything? For warranty purposes I would use the instructions from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2710735 but download the recovery file for T-MOB Germany instead?
Thank you for reading the long post and I hope that I have made some sort of sense.
Yes it will have the firmware.zip with the recovery.img inside it. Even the small 47MB or so, OTA update for the WWE from 2.22.401.4 - 2.22.401.5 had the firmware.zip inside. So just download the OTA.zip copy to PC extract firmware.zip and grab the recovery.img.
Benefits to converting to WWE or even Developer edition also includes the fact that those devices will receive OTA updates before any carrier version, directly from HTC. It's a bonus if you're into the "latest & greatest" scene.
As for making a backup before flashing custom recovery, have you tried booting the custom recovery? Philz will probably be better if you want to use the booted custom recovery to make a backup of stock recovery. You could also try and boot either TWRP or Philz and see if you can root your device without flashing custom recovery, that way you can at least use the dd command to grab a copy of the recovery block. <My preferred method, though it's a terrible circle. Need to flash custom recovery to root, need root to make backup of stock recovery... So hopefully booting the custom recovery will work. That being said, easiest way still remains to grab it from the OTA.zip.
Perhaps you could even upload a copy of the OTA.zip and share it on here, I don't think the OP has a copy in the second post
ROM/Firmware. You need the latest firmware to run the latest ROM. For most it'll be firmware with 3.x. If you still run on 2.x(which you aren't) you'd have some problems with radio(bluetooth, gps, wifi, data etc)
Thank you for the reply .
To be honest I have not tried booting a custom recovery because I saw this in the first post of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
fastboot boot recovery_filename.img (this does not work on the latest 3.xx firmwares !!! we need to get the stock recoveries from the OTA files)

So I am not sure what to try to be honest. This toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51383278&highlight=ota#post51383278 mentions getting root without S-OFF but with a unlocked bootloader. So I am thinking that if I follow those steps, maybe when I get to the reboot phase I can execute a nandroid instead which might get me the files I want?
I won't bother with WWE then. I will rely on the dev's to give me the latest & greatest .

Hm, yeah I also had some problems booting a recovery, but I just tested it out again. I can at least boot TWRP version 2.8.3.0 so it still works for me. I'm on 3.28.1540.5 (Developer edition). Haven't tried Philz though, net a bit too slow to bother with even a small download
No problem. I am busy downloading the OTA.zip and once complete I will try the toolkit method and see what happens . Again, thank you for the reply.
I need some help... My phone seems to be stuck in fastboot mode and is not picked up in Device Manager of Windows. I can touch the fastboot screen and it vibrates but it does not nothing. I have held down the power button for 20 seconds with no result. I had just unlocked the bootloader and then tried pushing the Philz recovery image to the device with the command line:
Code:
C:\android\sdk\android\platform-tools>fastboot boot philz_touch_6.57.8-m8.img
downloading 'boot.img'...
OKAY [ 1.541s]
booting...
OKAY [ 0.002s]
finished. total time: 1.547s
*edit*
Holding volume up + power for 10 seconds helped *whew*...

You can use any 3.32 based stock recovery for your phone. There are plenty of backups for that on this thread. No need to backup your own.
Thank you guys! That helps me a lot! Off I go to flash a custom recovery .
Hi,
I have been reading a lot of posts to find the stock recovery version for my HTC One M8. My CID is T-MOB003 and I have the stock ROM (Software nr. x.xx.114.x)still running but I can't find my stock recovery - must have misplaced it after the back-up - so I can do the update to Android 5.0. I have already looked here for it but no solution.
Is there anyone who can help me with a stock recovery for my device?

when you get prompted for the ota you download it but NOT install it. take the ota.zip from the internal memory and take out the firmware.zip, in that zip is the recovery.img.

Damn that was the help I needed!! Really great gonna try this when I get home!
After searching for months myself, I came to the conclusion that nobody has ever made a backup of their original recovery. (the T-MOB003 that is)
Since I had the same problem, and I know it sounds like bull**** but you need to get s-off to get firmware updates since you do not have the original recovery anymore.
The only way of fixing this that I know is theroot.ninja (SunShine S-Off Tool)
Yes it does costs some money, but you'll be happy with it for years.
It changes your CID to 111111 so you can flash whatever firmware you want and then you should be good to go!

No need at all for all of that. The method described above to get the stock recovery works flawlessly, if of course the system is 100% stock too !
And as additional info :
My experience on the one x was that all recoveries starting with the same base number are the same

Recovery is not a problem .. simply extract out from OTA zip before proceed with OTA installation.
Nandroid backup is a problem especially the lower version 1.57.114.2 for hboot 3.16.00000 and 2.23.114.3 for hboot 3.18.0000 - many users are stuck at these two versions because no one willing to share them.

Is there a way round this as I am s-off, surely If I find the right bits I can get to a stock state for a warranty repair? I'm getting nervous I wont be able to restore back to a factory state before the courier comes on thursday

So can I just run through and confirm with you:
Change CID back to VODAP001.
flash the nandroid backup in restore in twrp
flash the firmware in fastboot ruu...
Then look up on forum to change back to 'Locked'
Is this it have I missed any steps? I will give a go tonight and let you know, otherwise Im going to have to try and cancel this htc warrants fix as they will probably refuse and charge me!
I do have a friend sat next to me at work, who has an unrooted stock Vodafone m8, is there anyway he can create a RUU for me to apply to my phone?! - just another option I was thinking....
RUU - no. Backup - yes

no he doesn't need a root - if he will root then the backup will not be worth much
you can put device in fastboot - start TWRP - WITHOUT flashing - and do NANDROID backup then
it would make untouched Nandroid backup

how do you get into twrp i thought you need to be root to change recovery?
If the bootloader is unlocked you can just boot into TWRP by using fastboot boot recovery.img as opposed to fastboot flash recovery recovery.img. This wa it'll just temporarily load TWRP and allow you to back the phone up
Hi EddyOS, my apologies for being slow on the uptake but please can you help as I need to restore my M8 back to stock and I require the software in your previous reply. Please can you help with the decryption key? Your help would be gratefully received. Thanks.

So to return to stock, both these files should be flashed through TWRP, then relock the Bootloader?
Regards

Before I give a proper guide for newbie ... please post your fastboot getvar all result (minus serial no. & imei no.)
I need to make sure my guide is correct for your device version.
Also tell me why you need to relock bootloader ? If it is to update to the latest, no need to relock bootloader

While ckpv5 is right about getting your phone details I can add that to see the backup in recovery the files need to be in a folder with your phone serial number as the title in 'Backups'. To find the correct name of the folder first make a backup of your current rom in recovery. This will create a folder with the correct title then you can copy in the files from the backup you want to restore.
After doing that you should be able to see the backup you want to restore.
Hello guys, does anyone have a 3.29.166.9 twrp backup? Or a m8 with cid-vodap110 so he or she can make a fresh nandroid backup so i can go back to stock. I tried x.x.161.x backups but they don't work with cid-vodap110. Vodap110 is specific cid for Swisscom ch. Thanks in advance
No one has it?
Why don't you contact the other guy that already updated to 4.xx.166.x
Ask him for system part only. Then you can use it to update by flashing firmware first.
(I have the firmware but no backup)
Are you running a rooted/modified stock ROM now ? If yes, you can backup that and upload for me.. I will try to fix the error.
If you're running a custom ROM, you can flash the updated firmware and then install a lollipop custom ROM ... this can be done too.

I'm running a 4.16.401.10 stock firmware, and it works great even if it's not for my cid,but i would like to have official ota and for that i need stock firmware. I contacted many users with .166 firmwares but no one want's to make a backup :/
You don't run 4.16.401.10 stock firmware but you run a stock 4.16.410.10 ROM.
You can flash your stock firmware 4.19.166.2 then run 4.16.401.10 .. at least you can have a lollipop firmware running a lollipop software.

Need to totally factory start my HTC ONE M8
Hi guys, i really hope you can help me here.
I have a HTC ONE M8. It is a UK version on EE carrier. the CID is ORANG001. in fast boot it is blank next to OS- (don't know if tyhat matters at this point) I have S-Off through SUNSHINE. I have no oringinal back up. I have tried flashing the recovery found in my OTA updtate and several others that say they should work in various other threads, all through ADB Fastboot says it sends and writes ok but has no effect.
I have unrooted, factory booted, and am at the end of my tether. EE will not replace the handset if it is tampered and i really dont want to have to pay for a totally new one.
