Hi friends,
+ I just got my M9 today. While unlocking Bootloder,i reboot into Download Mode the first time and get this error msg : "Security checking failed NOT_FIND_SMART IO -- SD NOT MOUNTED "
+ But i can unlock the bootloader successfully. Then ,the phone wouldn't let me flash the TWRP recovery, i got this error msg all the time :
c:\adb>fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
target reported max download size of 800000000 bytes
error: cannot load 'twrp.img': No error
Then i search Google and only this forum has my question. http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f485/java-card-htc-1888938/index3.html
They are talking about using Java card to S-OFF the HTC ONE M9
I contact my reseller and they swear that this phone has been never used before. Pls help! Did my phone was modified with a Java Card
I have had the error pop up I. The download screen since I was at the att store in Saturday picking the thing up. And I know mine was fresh out if the box from ATT. And rooting the M9 was a pain the first 2 times around. Neither used the same steps but both times rooting was achieved and this thing is a beast. I'm gonna go back to stock one more time to get a fresh dump before letting the ninja do his majik and and take this thing s off

I am by no means a seasoned veteran here. but it seems that flags is being thrown do to the fact that the phone is in download mode with out the OP****.img file being present where download thinks it should be. it hasn't stopped me from rooting the phone, going back to stock, flashing the RUU and rooting again.
I may be completely off base, and hopefully one of the Vets here will let me know before i do some damage, but i think it is just a newish feature for HTC that doesn't have all the bugs worked out yet.
One thing to be sure of is that you are using the <b>BETA TWRP 2.8.6.4</b> i have heard some bad things happening using the wrong recovery version ***props to Cap for all his work***
I got this error when I tried to flash the RUU so I flashed it through an sd card butbtgats not possible for the recovery.
Download the latest TWRP not the official and try to flash it again
S-Off

i guess youve got the solution for the other post but the the sake of helping others,
remove the extension from twrp.img _> twrp
and then flash , this is a common error for many people , ive never faced it though.
Mines totally stock OOB, going into recovery i get the same error as you do about IO

Hello folks,
First of all can I say what a great site this is and how many super and generous people there are who help out twits like me every day!
I have rooted and flashed my phone many, many times, so I am not a Noob as such, though I am stuck on this one....
Here's my issue......
Got phone back from HTC repair - New motherboard - Worked fine.
HBOOT 0.93
I rooted phone using Unrevoked version 3
Then I installed LeeDroid 2.2d - latest version from XDA developers.
Phone worked fine for a few days.
I downloaded a few apps and synced calendars etc.
Then this morning - I unplugged my charger from the phone and Bang.....Phone seems to be not working, my Calendars are blank, so I decided to reboot phone.....................
Now I am unable to get past the HTC White Logo screen. AND I cannot access Recovery mode or Clockworkmod.
Though I can get to the Hboot screen by holding the down key and power.
Cannot boot into recovery though even from this menu.
The initial Recovery bit - the green writing that pops up when the phone looks at the recovery image, seems to be saying something like wrong image - Below.
SD Checking...
Loading...[PB99DIAG.zip]
No Image!
Loading...[PB99DIAG.nhh]
No Image or Wrong Image!
Loading...[PB99IMG.zip]
No Image!
Loading...[PB99IMG.nhh]
No Image or Wrong Image!
I have rebooted several times, but no good.
I have plugged my Desire in to PC and gone into Fastboot mode and then tried to install the Stock HTC RUU by running the exe from my computer.
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed
However I just get either error 131 or Error 140 depending on which SD card I put into the phone..........
This has got me completely stumped? Am I bricked completely or is there a way around this?
Any ideas?
HELP!!!!!!!! - I thought I was good at this!
Download a PB99IMG.zip from www.shipped-roms.com
put it into the root of your sdcard and it should reflash without a problem.
Well i don't know why both your recovery and system has got corrupted without you doing a thing to it. It usually only happens if you messed something up.. Not saying you have, but now would be the time to tell
Otherwise everything you say is exactly what i would expect your phone to do.
First of all the green writing in hboot is not a look at the recovery but a check to see, if you have put a zip file with that name on the sd-card. This is just an alternative to using the ruu.exe
Second of all the stock rom you try to flash may contain an older hboot version og something similar, which is just giving you the error because you are not allowed to downgrade to an earlier software/hboot version. Try the newest one instead with your goldcard in the phone of cause.
And finally no you are not even close to a brick here seriously some people should take a deep breath and read through the forum(not specifically you but people in general. There is just too many topics with people screaming heeelp i have no idea what i did to my phone). Theres plenty of solutions, and it is quite hard to actually brick the phone. Unless you actually tried pulling the battery while flashing a hboot or radio update almost any other software problems are easily solved, because of the way this system is build.
edit: and if you try the above suggested by h3llb3nd4. You should be aware that your phone model on that page is bravo and not desire, which is the cdma desire. So if your phone has a sim card you should pick bravo. You still have to choose one with a similar or newer software and hboot version than your current.
Hi guys,
The latest with the saga is.
I managed to get the latest Froyo RUU to run and install successfully on my phone.
However - Phone still will not get past the HTC white screen, it just sticks there.
I am pretty much out of ideas now?
h3llb3nd4, thank you for your advice, I will give this a go, but as I cannot access any menu's to do a reflash I'm not sure I understand how this can help me? - Not that I'm saying it won't, it's probably my lack of knowledge.
Otherwise, I have to say this phone seems to be a big trouble. I mean even a successful RUU install and still no reboot? Weird
Thanks so much for your help and advice...keep those ideas coming

Well I tried this, and placed the zip file onto the root of SDCard. However then I restarted phone and it simply stuck at the HTC screen as before?
Do I need to do anything else? - I cannot access recovery to install from zip card.
Do I need to unzip the zip file? or maybe rename it?
Also I am now installed with the latest froyo Bravo RUU Rom 2.10, so the image file that is for 1.21 may not be right for this?
Help........
Put PB99IMG.zip on to the root of your SD card. Then boot into the bootloader (power on with vol down held down).
The bootloader will automatically scan the SD card root for an update file and install it. That should get your back to running stock again.

Hi Bigstoo,
Sooo close, it actually started reading the PB99IMG.Zip file. However it failed to update sadly.
The error message was "update fail"
Could this be that the ROM image that is on the phone is a higher one than this PB99IMG file? Is there one that is suitable for use with
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed
Thanks though! - Nearly there maybe..............

Right I have found the correct PB99IMG file for my current stock Rom.
The phone found it in Bootlaoder and went right through the installation process correctly and successfully......................
Outcome - Phone still not working at stuck at the HTC White screen.
I would say it's now looking like hardware issue to me? I cannot think of anything else that might get this bloody phone to work again...............

I am having the same problem. Tried all day yesterday. Also tried installing the RUU and that failing install as well for me. I have another thread with some details of the error I get in recovery. Basically Here is the info
Get the details of install
Gets downto verifying current system...
Assert failed: apply patch check /system /app/7digital3.apk
E:error in //internal_sdcard/download/ota (file)
Status 7
Installation aborted
So was there a problem with htc servers corrupting the downloads yesterday. Just a question when I see two now with the same issue in updating.
Have the same problem with OTA update from 1.29.401.12 to 2.17.401.12 fail.
Have tryed to remove CID check as have worked with earlier OTA, that dosnt work on this.
RUU also fail with aborted installation as mention over here, but I have had error with all RUU since I got One X 6 monts ago.
Same here, i tried to change name update.zip, asserts but it doesnt work.It says "assert failed: check_cid(get prop("ro.cid"),......."
I think its because u guys remove the bloatware from the system. Ota update need the bloatware even if u r rooted

Just run your stock rom, flash your stock recovery. You can enter recovery when you see the phone & red triangle just push vol up + power button. You see some errors also. No problem. It's because stock recovery can not mount your sd !
Just boot into your stock rom with stock recovery, bootloader can stay UNLOCKED.
update your phone with the software update program and it should update fine, did this myself last night. After that you can flash the custom recovery and run a custom rom again if you want.

Hi, there I have an HTC One X, relocked, with RUU put back on, but it is the last OTA: OTA_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.28.707.10-1.26.707.4_release_2571341oc2x91f61pch2z9
That caused the problems as FOTA. My touchscreen now randomly does not accept any inputs.
All because the FOTA was applied while loading the battery, stupid of me of course but s..t happens, right.
So all I want to do now is applying last OTA again. Read all forum updates, but no real solution.
Tried the above, put the ota on de sdcard, even renamed it to update.zip and also on card, but when in stock recovery none of the options seem to pick it up or work.
The RUU succesfully applied was:
RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.17.707.3_Radio_2.1204.135.20_release_278245_signed
And yes it was bought in Singapore:angel:
I could unlock it again and I tried running Maximus V2.2 but the same annoying touchscreen problem.
And yes i tried the option not to go to sleep when loading on charger but didn't help either.
Who can help, or do I wait for the FOTA of Jelly Bean coming this month from HTC (or so it is stated on many websites)?
Thanks for any help in advantage!:good:

hi i have a similar issue how did u manage to sought the problem of screen
Hi,
Earlier toady I decided to root my htc m8 on three I used the one m8 all in one kit and got right to the end but when I tried to run super su it told me that I could not run because I had updated to android 4.3 which is incorrect as I already had android 5.0 lollipop updated.
after this I tried to look for a fix and flashed it with a file called: lpx13d-permissive-boot-2-n5-
bad idea after this the fone would not return to normal mode, so I tried to do a factory reset but it still would not return to normal mode.
now its just stuck in bootloader mode and my computer will not recognise it.
It just boots into the bootloader I can get into recovery mode which is clockworldmod but factory reset does nothing...
Any ideas on how I can sort this ???
Thanks
Aaron

Hi guys. The story is i installed a font on my rooted M9, after I installed the font i kept getting a htc error, every time I press dont send error to htc the error message would still pop up ever 2-5 seconds. So to try to fix this i factory restored my htc with TWRP. After i did that it still didnt help the error message kept poping up and i couldnt set up my phone, so i wiped my phone with TWRP and now not there is no OS on my htc. I tried to install T-moblie ruu on hts's website but i keep getting a 131 error. i dont know what to do. Can i put an os on a micro SD and install it with TWRP im not sure. PLZ HELP
I know i can fix it by finding a T-moblie back up but i dont know my CID number, tryed to use adb to find it but the cmd wont recognize my device.
Forgot to say - unlcoked, s-on. i would to love to just unroot my device and make it all stock.
Just flash a rom and select tmobile kernel

HTC One M9, no branding, official software, locked and S-ON.
one month ago my phone got (for no apparent reason) serious software problems, so spend a lot of time on the internet to find a solution. in the end, i downloaded the correct stock rom, put it on a sd card and reinstalled stock android via the download mode. it worked out really well, my phone was running like new.
but 2 days ago i pick up my phone and realize it's stuck in a bootloop. (again for no apparent reason) using the right button combinations, i am able to get into the bootloader.
when i try to flash the stock rom with the exact same method that worked last time, it says "start ui_updating" and gets caught in the bootloop again. (i dont think i did anything wrong because the exact same procedure worked last time)
when i enter recovery mode, i get the infamous red triangle. using the right buttons, i can still access the recovery mode from there. now, when i try to factory reset from here, i get the following errors: E: failed to mount /preload (invalid argument).. try emmc mount E: Cant find device node for mount point again E: mount /cache fail, format it and mount again ----- about 5 more similar errors after those 3.
I tried to flash recovery img with fastboot but i get an error similar to:
9 RU_SECURITY_FAIL recovery and bootloader isn't BL_UNLOCKE
I guess this is because my phone doesn't have usb debugging enabled or it doesn't have an unlocked bootloader.
I also tried to unlock the bootloader but after running the command: fastboot oem get_identifier_token i don't get the token so i can post it to htcdev and unlock my bootloader.
Anybody help or had the same issue and fixed it?
Thanks in advance

Hi Sorry to say, I have " Exactly" the same problem and have also reached the same place, I asked on these forums without success. in the end I sent it back to HTC and they want £200 to repair it or £29.00 diagnostic fee. I have asked them to send it back and will have to pay the £29.00. If it is within warrantee send it back.

Thanks for your fast reply.
I will get in contact with them and see what they will say. My phone is under warranty so i will pay only for shipping charges.
I bought it from a german eshop and i am from Cyprus.
The problem is, the official distributor for HTC here in Cyprus is Greece and i had a bad experience with them. I sent an old HTC One X 4 years before which had a board issue, and after waiting for a month they sent it back and guess what. It had the same problem. So i got in contact with the US website, described the problem and mentioned also the "official distributors" in Cyprus and Greece and how their "service" was and they told me i will have a brand new phone here in Cyprus within a week (which became a reality).
So before i experience the same issues i will clear everything from here (if anybody know a successful solution) and then communicate with HTC how to resolve this.
Thanks again for your reply!

I'd be lying if I'd say that I haven't read about the issue several times, already. However, you need to be aware of the fact that most of the time only people with problems are creating threads whereas people who have no issues at all won't do the same for praising the phone.
In other words: Yes, this problem does exist but no, not everyone faces it. I know many users whose M9 is still working fine.

Take the new OTA Nougat, separate those three files on your sd card
Install it with fastboot
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img
and it will be working takes 5-10 minutes to restart

Please don't give such advice. If the firmware isn't matching the system version users will face bugs and lags or the phone won't even boot. (The latter happens for example if you try to use an Android M system with an Android L firmware.) Besides a user with a locked bootloader and a firmware/system-mismatch won't be able to install any OTAs unless that person flashes a RUU for fixing the mismatch*. The catch is there is no publicly available Android N RUU for every variant of the M9, at the moment. And with S-ON you aren't able to use older RUUs. That means people might have to contact Llabtoofer's RUU Service (which isn't for free!) if they followed your recommendation.
* Users with an unlocked bootloader need to fix the mismatch, as well, but at least they have twrp backups as an alternative solution for the problem.
@gmayer1212 & @htcm9guy: You may want to read the ReadMe thread. It's pinned above the normal threads here in this section.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to discourage you from helping others. It's just important that you know which variant of the M9 the user with the problems owns in such cases. Just recommending to flash random stock files only causes more problems than it solves.
Just to chime in --- same problem happened to me yesterday.
Phone has been working fine --- then yesterday phone went unstable so I reset and got caught in bootloop.
After doing a factory reset and many tries -- got it to boot to android, only to get bombarded by google play service errors -- most likely wrong version of google play services for android?? I manually installed google play services apk... Reset and after many tries was able to boot again -- system was smooth. But did a quick reset to check whether problem was fixed and now i'm back in boot loop.
I wonder if there's a problem with a recent google apps update over playstore that's killing boot?
Hello,
i have the same problem but in some ways different. My M9 was running nearly fine until yester der evening. I just plugged the power supply and suddenly black screen, bootloop. But the really big problem is i don't come in any different stable mode than bootloader. If i try to get into download or recovery mode, the silver htc-logo appears for less than a secound, short vibration and reboot - and this is in loop also.
So for me i don't se a way to factory reset or reinstall any RUU or anything else?
Is it destroyed? :crying:
I was complete S-Off before, running on the last firmware with ViperOneM9 6.1.0.
Thans for your support,
Bond
That sounds like the dead nand issue. It's a hardware failure (c.f. the FAQ of the ReadMe thread).
Sent from my HTC One M9 using XDA Labs
If your phone is under warranty, it has a stock rom, and bootloader is still locked, then send it to HTC after contacting them via chat.
They will replace either the board or the device.
This is whhat they did for me.

I too wonder the same - recently had the bootloop issue with my M9, just when it was updating apps from the Playstore... quite suspicious...
My HTC M9 is also in boot loop

It happened at last Saturday, when I've just tried to perform a regular reset to my HTC M9 (from the regular device's menu).
I can't enter to download mode (fail), wipe cache and wipe all (factory reset) didn't help.
Is there any chance to fix it at home? Or just to buy a new phone?
And, does this issue can occur in other devices, HTC or any other brand?
Please advise.
(Can't upload a picture of my device, since I'm a new user...)
Thanks!
As far as I know there's nothing you can do. There are no reports of successful diy repairs of a dead nand M9.
Theoretically this issue can happen with any phone. However, it looks like the probability of its occurence on a M9 increased a lot during the last months.
I´m also stuck in bootloader mode
recovery mode / download mode endup with red text:
"failed to boot to download mode"
***Software status: Modified***
***LOCKED***
***S-ON***
***Security Warning***
Cannot get the token as fastboot oem commands end up empty or unknown command.
I think USB-debbugging is "off"
How can i get S-OFF
or how can i get token
Thanks.
