Hidden Menus in Sprint S6 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6

I have been watching Tips and Tricks Videos on Youtube and I have seen so many phones with different menu options than mine has. There are features that I would like to have like "Device Security" and "Find my Mobile". I'm not sure if I need them but I am frustrated that certain options have been disabled. I have used root explorer to find and edit the "features.xml" file and have been able to enable the shutter sound menu and the call recording option, but other menu options I have not found. Does anyone have knowledge of what code to add to the files or even what files are used to hide certain features that other carriers besides Sprint seem okay letting their customers have access to?

For "Find my Mobile", you could always try google's version: Android Device Manager.
Lookout is another alternative but is much more than device location.

Cerberus is the best choice for device security.

Even though there are alternatives for some features of Samsung's Find My Mobile, I don't believe any of them offer the 'reactivation lock' feature that Find My Mobile offers. So, it's annoying that carriers don't want to support native Samsung features that I would want as the person who paid for the device.

One of the best apps I've found for missing phones is Android Lost. It uses Google services to push commands instead of the app doing it.

I have the same question. multi-view is installed and fine. On some videos and images there appears an EDIT button which I don't seem to have. I have tried dragging apps off the multi-view bar to create new spaces but so far no success . I also cant see a settings menu or function...
My aim is to be able to access my folders while writing e-mail.
Simon.
At the moment this has only been programmed to allow a limited number of apps, a list of which can be found in a sticky thread in the 'general' forum here on xda-Note2
We believe we might have found a way to hack this feature to allow for more apps to be added but this is yet to be tested and perfected.
You would need root and/or a custom rom to allow this, if and when we do manage to 'fix' it.

[Q] Basics

I have a Samsung Galaxy SIII and just made my first NFC-steps using some Samsung TecTiles tabs.
After trying a few NFC apps from the Google play, I have a few basic questions.
While basic functions like p.ex. switching Bluetooth are available in all apps, other functions like p.ex. showing a pop-up, text-to-speech or calendar functions are only available in only in one particular app.
Is there a predefined set of nfc-functions for any given android version or the app-author is basically free to program any function he can think of?
I tried to import a tag in one app which i previously have written with another app. This didn't always succeed. I could understand that there is a problem with importing special functions which are unknow to an app, but at least the basic tag and the basic functions should be recognised by all nfc-apps.
As the nfc-apps progress, will we see new functions/possibilities or will it stay about at the present level as the available functions are limited by android?
My device is locked, mainly because it was mandatory by a VPN installation.
Is there a way to unlock it 'automatically' thru NFC? I know this can be a security issue, but it would be so handy just p.ex. to put the phone in the car-holder and it would automatically go to the home screen or the car screen, and also during driving its annoying when the device has a time lock and needs to be unlocked in the middle of an intersection......
What is the power consumption of the nfc-module in the S3?
Thanks for your input.

There is a set of predefined nfc-functions, (like open a webpage, vcard, open an app..) but this set is very very limited and even the mentioned Bluetooth function is not included .... in fact, bluetooth needs a little hacking, because the official api does not support to turn on bluetooth without asking the user .....so basically a developer can (/ has to!) implement every function he wants, but in reality a lot of functions are blocked on non-rooted devices, because android defined them as security related....
I tried to import a tag in one app which i previously have written with another app. This didn't always succeed. As mentioned the basic set is very limited.... it´s based on the nfc forum specifications and using nfc to control your device, is something these guys never had in mind ....so, sure you could use some standard nfc writer and write a webpage on a tag..... and this should be something every nfc device (not only android, but also blackberry, windows phone etc...) could handle .... but if you want to control your device, you need a more sophisticated app .... and there is no way to import a tag from one app to another ...
As the nfc-apps progress, will we see new functions/possibilities or will it stay about at the present level as the available functions are limited by android?

The functions are limited by android .... and my feeling is, that with every android update it get´s more limited! --> on Gingerbread, nfc was enabled while screen was off --> a function they skipped with ICS (ok, again, on a rooted device you could change the NFC.apk, to re-enable it) ... the last JB update declared the airplane modes as a security feature ... so no luck with airplane mode since 4.2 ...only to mention 2 examples ...don´t get me wrong, I don´t think it will stay at the present level, but it´s definitiv not in googles focus yet .... personally, I have a lot of new functions and use cases on my ToDo list, so I would say it´s just the beginning
My device is locked, mainly because it was mandatory by a VPN installation.

[Q] Disable My Magazine Shortcut?

I rooted and was trying to remove apps I didn't want... On trying to use the My Magazine app, it had no options to disable the shortcut. I have since deleted Flipboard and My Magazine, but the swipe motion to bring up My Magazine instead brings up the Google Play store and the phone saying it can't find the app.
I was wondering if there's any way to disable the shortcut (swipe up from the home button) completely or if there's a way to remap it? I have tried looking in the options to no avail and it's a minor inconvenience I would ideally like to get rid of or (failing that) remap it to Google Now. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.
I'm with you on this. I'd rather have Google Now as the swipe since there is no search button. I'm so used to it on the GSII. Hopefully it can be changed. I don't even use the Magazine app.
I must pull up that dumb magazines app a dozen times a day because I'm used to checking google now for sports scores
bobbyphoenix: I'm definitely with you on this... I'm not much of a Flipboard person anyhow and I would much rather have Google Now remapped to it if I can't get rid of the function. The upside is that I could get rid of the Google search box on the home screen if I had to remap the function.
I would love to no how to fix this to ...

I can't believe how annoying this is to get rid of. Why not have a setting to turn it off in the myriad of settings menus that is Touchwiz? This is driving me nuts! Pleaaase someone figure out how to get rid of this, preferably without root. I'd be eternally grateful
I figured it out! I started playing around with the app for a while, and I didn't realize everything it could do. I think I may keep it there now, but for those who don't want it, press the home key on the home screen to open My Magazines. Once it's open press the menu key. Go to settings. Then un-check "Open using the home key".
EDIT - Oh, and of course that is just to disable the home button from opening it. I haven't figured out how to disable the swipe up yet, but I'm looking for it.

So, is there something new about replacing swipe up with other app?
What's this menu key you speak of which lets me turn MyMagazine off? I don't need to agree to the terms and conditions and actually start using this odious app in order to turn that off, do I?

It seems the binding to the up-swipe is controlled by touchwiz. I would suspect there is some registry setting or a config file in the system.
I rooted my Note 3 tester using (SM-N900W8) and froze the Flipboard app and the My Magazine app, which Samsung has decided to prevent users from disabling it (stupid move). I get errors and Touchwiz crashes. Both are re-enabled now, and I'll be looking to see how Touchwiz determines which app to run on the up-swipe and how to re-bind the home button.
A friend shared a clip from Family Guy with me today after hearing about this issue... Peter is giving some tech support to Quagmire, and an Agreement comes up on screen. Quagmire says 'let me read through this' and Peter says 'just click Agree' so he does. 3 seconds later some dude in a suit shows up and punches Quagmire in the head knocking him to the floor and smashing the laptop. Quagmire yells "ow, what the hell was that for?" and the suited fellow replies "well you agreed to the terms and conditions, didn't you?". That guy in the suit should be named Sam Sung.

The upswipe stuff is all in the TW launcher. You can go in and code it to do something different though - like open Google Now for example

Yeah I figured as much. We're not allowed to browse 'personal' websites from our corporate networks... we have had a lot of 'unauthorized use' triggers and notifications from various firewalls due to Note 3's being issued to users. So far, every single user with a Note 3 has complained about this.
Even more unfortunate is that I have had to take back the Note 3's and reassign them iPhones.

You let your wireless connections access to your inside corp network? Here, the only way to access corp would be via some sort of VPN connection.

Not quite (wish it was that easy).
Essentially, we have people that travel from site to site. Many sites do not have cellular connectivity in certain areas, however use of handheld devices on a secured segment of the network IS allowed. What is NOT allowed is attempts to access non-work related content, i.e. facebook, youtube, news/political web sites, and the like. They are all blocked, but what happens is each attempt to access an unauthorized site is logged and reported. The Note 3's trigger these alerts a LOT because when you run any of these apps (which on our current Galaxy S4's can be disabled easily WITHOUT rooting), they immediately reach out and start attempting to download content (even when started by accident). Wireless devices are permitted to access the Internet (work purposes only: voip, some web portals / web apps), and limited corporate resources (email, etc).
I have notified Samsung and they are looking into this (REF ID: 2122396737 for anyone at Samsung reading this thread).
I'm more than happy to root my own personal Note 3, but I can't do that legitimately with any corporate owned handsets.
I installed Nova Launcher (free). Seems to offer 99% of the Touchwiz features, plus a lot more. It is certainly faster as well. Got rid of the ridiculous my magazine activation (upswipe/home button).
You do not need root for it, and for the most part, it will look/feel the same.
Temporary work around for my personal Note 3. Still waiting for a response from Samsung support.

Question Multiple users on Fold 3? (aka work profile)

hey everyone,
I am struggling to find the option for adding another user.
I found this and this article on samsung web however netiher works for me.
The goal would be a completely secondary user for my work (work profile) which is password protected.
do you guysknow how to enable it?
Thanks!
As your account is linked to a Samsung account.
Best gues is go to settings and tap on you name and see there
I believe multiple users requires a rooted phone if your carrier does not enable it for you. I have not done this on the Fold 3 since I want the camera to continue to work and rooting it will kill the camera - thanks Samsung!
This is how you change BuildProp to enable multi user if you have root: How to Add Multi User Support to any Android Device with a Build.Prop Mod

Not sure about a completely different user, but does the Secure Folder work for you? Separate apps, contact lists, can't paste outside of it, separate files, etc. all password/fingerprint protected.

I meant Secure Folder, and fixed it, but I'm glad you knew what I meant!
I used secure folder for my work purpose as well, all the company login, apps are completely separate via secure folders and the company admin won't be able to see my non-work information in this manner.
Have you looked at - Island App or the Play Store link?

Correct, it is a non-Knox solution.

Philips OLED707 Android 11

Hello XDA community!
Just bought this piece of technology and discovered, that the android options are very limited. I don't even have the app manager menu enabled in my settings. Is there any way to enable some of the usual default android settings options? The app manager is a must, cuz I wanna disable some of the preinstalled crap.
Tried sideloading some apps through ADB and they don't show up in my app drawer.
I also want to use the Private DNS feature just like on my android phone, but this option is also not availale in settings, since there is no network settings in android settings.
Dafuq is this s#it? Is there somekinda kid mode enabled? Is this an Apple knock-off based on Android OS?
Any options to block YT ads? So fckn annoying to listen to that crap every 5 mins.
How about rooting?

This issue may be caused by a software glitch or a setting on your device. Try clearing the cache and data of the WhatsApp app, or try uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Also, please check the notification settings of WhatsApp and ensure that the "Show notifications" option is enable. If you have any third-party apps installed, then you may also have to check the notification settings of those apps as well.

Bro, I didn't mention anything about Whatsapp not working on my TV.
Thank u for your answer!
So yea, the device most certainly didn't come with a kid mode configured. But It most certainly did come with a "sheep" mode configured, so that the massive ad feeding campaign couldn't be interrupted in any way. I read that Android TV OS now have some ad crap on their default home screens (aka launchers), so first thing's first - gotta disable all those pesky auto updates.
I tried vanced, but I guess that stuff is not supported anymore. I sideloaded vanced filtes via adb, but 2/3 of them didn't install. Also I've read, that latest vanced lacked somekinda specific TV UI functionality, so that's not gonna work for me. I guess smarttubenext does the job now, although I'd still prefer the root vanced.
My first question is about the adb shell commands. What are my options to execute somekinda command, for spawning unrestricted android settings apk or a restricted part of settings apk? At least I wanna get a full default app manager, and network settings. These settings stripped from the OS are very precious. This feels even worse than a crapple device. Can u or someone else please provide a list of adb shell codes and translations for them to spawn settings or parts of the settings?
Adblocking is somewhat available via dns configuration, which does work most of the time, but that is not a preferred option for me.
Is there any way I could force adb to manipulate the with the hosts file?
How about force copy an apk to system/app folder and preset target permissions?
Maybe some vulnerability I could use for that? It's not like the newest OS version, it's only Android 11.
There must be something.. C'mon.. this is my piece of equipment, I paid cash money for the device and OS. I want my OS functionality. I'm not renting it. It's mine. MINE!

Have you tried smart tube next? Great YouTube app for tv and it includes sponsorblock. I actually have YT premium membership because I use iOS, but I STILL can’t live without smart tube on my tv
Yea, SmartTubeNext is working fine, so I'm gonna stick with it. I did disable some safe apps via adb.
Unfortunately hosts file editing will not work without root.
But is there any chance to access the Android App manager? I think this is a must.. If an app crashes I can force close it and clear data, but if I don't have the file manager, my only option will be factory reset. That's stupid. How can I get the app manager to show up in Android settings?
