Donno about the hardware quality but this phone is tooooooooooooooooooooooooo cool.
I currently have Dell Streak 5" but MI-500 beats it in all the specs and prices too

I have Spice MI 410, and can say, it has good hardware quality ...... very much satisfied with MI 410 enjoying android over it ....:0
Expecting this too have good harware quality .... will look the future of the same

Never used Spice ever.. let's see. I am sure that your comments would be true for the MI-500 also. I might be switching to MI-500 due to ICS 4 from my Dell Streak 5

I didn't find the COMPLETE specs anywhere on the web......we'll have to wait for spice to start the sales or gsm arena to post the complete specs!!

Spice Mi-500 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz Dual-Core processor. It is even not clear whether it has a LED flash. Comes with ICS out of the box.

Seems more likely to have the MSM8225 at this price point.
The Mi-500 is said to have a Snapdragon S4 processor.
It has Cortex A5 dual core and Adreno 203 Graphics processor, which if you go by the numbering system of Qualcom, it will be less powerful then the Adreno 205.
I seriously hope not. I am so looking forward to this mobile.
And the screen resolution is definitely going to be 800x480.

I was interested to hear about the dual core CPU on the Mi-500. But there is a lot of repeated articles around the net, most are cut n paste from each other and lacking the same information.
The only say 3G, I have not been able to find what bands it supports. If it is only 2100 then its not much better than the four variants of chinese/korean 5" phones (mtk6575 1Ghz, single core based) around the market (ebay & internet stores). Superior CPU, inferior camera.

I would really like dual sim in a 5" phone, But to suit Australia 3G 850/900/2100 would be best, might have to wait 6 months, or forgo dual sim and go for a galaxy note.
I've never liked the small screens on smartphones, its only the new 5" versions that make me consider changing from carrying an old 2G only phone & laptop.

snapdragon is manufactured by Qualcomm & MT65xx is manufactured by Mediatek...However, Mediatek choose to keep secret for their source code while Qualcomm public part of their source code on-line...
With the source code, developers & ROM cookers at XDA can do wonder with it !

its an awesome built quality, better than A9, good display and nice fast responsive touch, 478mb RAM, but takes hell lot of time to charge full battery even wit galaxy s2 charger

the battery is pretty good, its giving me around 18 -20hrs of back up wit moderate use wit battery savor installed!
WiFi hotspot is a default programe in android from 2.3 +, and this is 4.0.3 so it surely has it! all the best for ur purchase

1. it records 720p at 30fps
2. it has PowerVR SGX531 GPU, and its a ARMv7 NEON processor, not CORTEX a9.
3. it works like charm, and I had no issues wit its smoothness or any lag till date!

From my past experience, WiFi HotSpot has been my most used App on a mobile phone.
So, does Karbonn A18 it support WiFi HotSpot tethering? Are there any issues in using this feature while being connected to the laptop with a data/charging cable?

Will be updating this thread with relevant info!
WRITTEN REVIEW:
I have now used the phone for some days, and I already have a good impression of this phone. The Elephone is high quality compared to my older HDC Galaxy Note 3 N9006 (with only Quad Core). You really can feel and see that the Elephone P8 is of the newer Octa-core generation. Almost everything is better on this phone than on older Quad Cores.
The screen is really nice, sharp & clear and have some real vivid colours. Almost everyone that I have showed the device, have told me that the screen is very nice. So the FHD 1920x1080 must do a difference.
The camera in the Elephone P8 is also of the "good" type. It has some few extras like object focus, voice capture etc, but especially photos indoor are much better than on my older HDC. I think it is pretty equal to the Jiake X3S (also Octa Core). My wife tried the camera, and the first she said to me is, "wow this one, actually has a good camera".
The Dual Sim and 3G works perfect! The speed of the phone is what you can expect from an Octa-core. And scores close to 27000 in Antutu. Games and apps runs very good on the phone. The backspeaker is loud, even maybe too loud sometimes (there is a setting to boost the volume in the phones options). But especially the earspeaker and the quality is 10 times better than on my HDC. That is really a big plus for me. You hear people really clear when you speak with them.
The phone is really big (even bigger than the normal Note 3) so it is only for people with big hands But the overall build quality of the phone is very good, almost as good as the real brands like Samsung, HTC etc. I have noticed that it is very solid, and it doesn't feel cheap at all.
If I shall say something bad, then it must be the light in the hardware buttons, it could be stronger. But at least there is some light. And there is no options to set the sensitivity of the screen. I would like it to be a little bit more sensitive if possible, but still it is good. Another thing is that I haven't found a way to change to a custom wallpaper on the stock lockscreen, it only allowes me to use the builtin wallpapers.
The battery life is good, I would say 1 1/2 day with normal usage. But it also has a pretty big battery, but on the other hand also a very big screen, which uses a lot of power - so it evens out. I will recommend this phone if you want a phone with good quality, it is not a 1:1 clone of the Note 3. But it has much better build quality than the clones have. The problem with the 1:1 clones are that they often are cheap made, because they are sold as clones and not have their own brand/name.

WRITTEN REVIEW:
I have now used the phone for some days, and I already have a good impression of this phone. The Elephone is high quality compared to my older HDC Galaxy Note 3 N9006 (with only Quad Core). You really can feel and see that the Elephone P8 is of the newer Octa-core generation. Almost everything is better on this phone than on older Quad Cores.
The screen is really nice, sharp & clear and have some real vivid colours. Almost everyone that I have showed the device, have told me that the screen is very nice. So the FHD 1920x1080 must do a difference.
The camera in the Elephone P8 is also of the "good" type. It has some few extras like object focus, voice capture etc, but especially photos indoor are much better than on my older HDC. I think it is pretty equal to the Jiake X3S (also Octa Core). My wife tried the camera, and the first she said to me is, "wow this one, actually has a good camera".
The Dual Sim and 3G works perfect! The speed of the phone is what you can expect from an Octa-core. And scores close to 27000 in Antutu. Games and apps runs very good on the phone. The backspeaker is loud, even maybe too loud sometimes (there is a setting to boost the volume in the phones options). But especially the earspeaker and the quality is 10 times better than on my HDC. That is really a big plus for me. You hear people really clear when you speak with them.
The phone is really big (even bigger than the normal Note 3) so it is only for people with big hands But the overall build quality of the phone is very good, almost as good as the real brands like Samsung, HTC etc. I have noticed that it is very solid, and it doesn't feel cheap at all.
If I shall say something bad, then it must be the light in the hardware buttons, it could be stronger. But at least there is some light. And there is no options to set the sensitivity of the screen. I would like it to be a little bit more sensitive if possible, but still it is good. Another thing is that I haven't found a way to change to a custom wallpaper on the stock lockscreen, it only allowes me to use the builtin wallpapers.
The battery life is good, I would say 1 1/2 day with normal usage. But it also has a pretty big battery, but on the other hand also a very big screen, which uses a lot of power - so it evens out. I will recommend this phone if you want a phone with good quality, it is not a 1:1 clone of the Note 3. But it has much better build quality than the clones have. The problem with the 1:1 clones are that they often are cheap made, because they are sold as clones and not have their own brand/name.

I've got the phone now and was just wondering will there ever be an option to improve screen sensitivity? because in some games the screen is not responsive enough, which is disappointing because it is fast enough to handle them well

I think ROMs will come on www.needrom.com when available, but so far I have not tried any other ROM yet.
Have not found a way yet to alter the screen sensitivity in games.

I tried it, it is good, they don't have the samsung look anymore but the one dreathfull thing about kitkat:

2. Did have 480FPS slow motion? (this phone need to have 240FPS and 480FPS slow motion)
3. How much update did they now published? Do you often published update?
4. I read that phone get very fast heat. After using one hour of video or WIFI.... Is that correct?

Hi, can anyone suggest how to access Google Contacts on Letv One? There a stock dialer app that asks you to sign in with the Letv account, which is useless in the West so far. Also, I've tried many different Contacts apps, but I can't access my google contacts...

I think you can install the play store and install some contact apps from there. Or install aptoide.

I have installed Google Play and all apps/services working fine. Also, installed many different Contacts apps, but can't access it as it doesn't sync with my google account...

yeah, i know, I even made a tutorial video on how to install it. But tried so many apps, still, can't access contacts. For example, I downloaded the Contacts app, which easily lets you sync it with your Google account. Once you want to do that, it redirects you to phone's settings, which allow only to choose Corporate, Facebook or Skype account. I even tried to set up Google account as corporate, still no result.. Anyway, I think it will be fixed some day. It sucks as all my contacts are in Google.

EDIT: I downloaded the file 286X_v1_1080_dark.zip from https://s.basketbuild.com/devs/z31s1g/1080/TWRP 286X_v1
Connected the phone to pc, renamed that file to ui.zip, created a folder called "theme" on the TWRP folder on the phone storage and copied ui.zip to that new folder. Done! TWRP in english and themed!
EDIT2: Now, in TWRP, it just doesn't unlock, when it says "swipe right to unlock" it does nothing. No button work there. Oh the power does!

Guys, something is really wrong with the GPS. When driving the accuracy sky rockets to 30+ meters (tested with GPS test plus, get in aptoide). At 80 km/h, the accuracy goes 40+ meters. Yes, meters, not feet. My crappy THL 5000, maintains accuracy always at 3-4 meters. I'm running the last update 5.0.003S.
Anyone here tested it on the road?

How did you install Google Play?
You need to flash Gapps to system via custom recovery, for example with TWRP

Package consists of phone, charger, USB cable, silicon etui, extra protective foil and short manual. A protective foil is already on the phone, so we doe not have to apply it ourselves and we do not have to look for silicon etui.
I have Homtom HT17 White edition. ROM R02.
The back cover is creamy white, which gives it elegant look, it is made of plastic with pleasant rubbery feel to it, which makes it feel and hold stable in the hand.
Hardware
CPU: MTK6737 Quad Core , ARM ,Cortex-A53, clock speed is declared 1.3 GHz but clock is set down to 1.1GHz
GPU: Mali-T720MP1 , 550 MHz

System with usual apk reacts fluently and no problem with decoding our favorite music or video files.
Display
IPS 5.5” display with 720p resolution (1280x720 pixels). Screen density 320dpi.
This makes it a very good choice for a screen of this diagonal, because the pixel density is high enough so that the image is as clear. The visibility angles is not very narrow and the colour intensity is fairly good. The image rendition stays the same except viewing in extremely sharp angles. The display in maximum settings is dark and gray in tint. Weak display even for a budget phone.

We have learned that more megapixels in a smartphone camera don't always guarantee better photos. But with a interpolated 13MP Sony IMX219 sensor - Homtom HT17 can make nicely sharp and pleasant, and not oversaturated pictures which happens in many phones. Pictures have natural and very detailed quality. Photos of closer objects are very sharp in my opinion .
Gestures
It is possible to turn on certain gestures to facilitate phone use, such as flipping the phone onto the screen in order to silence ringing, answering a call by lifting the phone a bit more quickly, or simply switching to speaker phone and back by bringing the phone closer to the ear.
What is more, the phone has the option of turning on with a double display touch (Double-tap to Wake), sliding down on the screen while turned off in order to quickly run the camera, or writing on the screen to run apps like dialer, Internet browser, Play store, messenger, etc.
Battery
HT 17 comes with a 3000mAh battery, which is enough capacity to allow one-day with more intensive use. MT6737 is economical and works on lower frequency (221MHz-1092 , battery consumption is moderate. The processor is probably intentionally limited to lower frequency instead its maximum (1.3GHz) in order to provide a better battery autonomy, since it has proven to be quite economical and still powerful enough for most users’ needs.
GPS
Obtaining GPS location on this phone is quick and precise, since it easily finds a large number of satellites and connects to most of them in 30 seconds. Therefore, it can be used as GPS navigation with matching navigation software.

Conclusion
Homtom HT17 is a smart phone which has suddenly appeared on the market and attracted a lot of attention with its surreal hardware for a good price. Its IPS display with wide visibility angles and its work speed will satisfy many users. If you want an affordable smartphone you should definitely take the HT 17 model into consideration as best buy the first smartphone with MT6737 CPU
Recovery TWRP and how to root
Use standard MTK drivers.

Remove the battery from HT17.
Press download only.
Connect HT17 through USB.
And insert the battery.
After completing flashing. close SPFlash Tool.
Disconnect Ht17
RestartHT17 into recovery
Press Power + Volume UP
Flash supersu 2.78
Restart into system

Nice build, speed good enough to run pokemon go smoothly, battery also very good can stand heavy Wifi/4G/GPS usage

No you do not have to unlock. Just flash it with SP flash tool.

Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped
I have just updated via wireless on my newly received HT17 but upon reboot I got the following msg "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped.' and I cannot use any SIM card. Reset did not help. Any solution?

Thanks in fact used the older Version: HOMTOM-HT17-Android_6.0-R03-20160708 to flash the phone. The updated version was yielding the same error.
