I've tried going through all the steps to encrypt my phone, however, it seems I get stuck on the black screen with green "lock" android / robot. It never goes any further than that screen (it never reboots as the directions state it would).
I've tried a couple different roms (Frosty JB, Wicked, Synergy) and none seem to let me complete the encryption process. I haven't tried going back to stock yet, since someone with an i9300 (international SG3) posted they had the same issue even when they went back to stock.
Has anyone had this issue? If so, how did you fix it? I've been looking all over the place for days and haven't found anything.
EDIT/ANSWER:
After doing a bit more digging, evidently, there's something called a PIT file that has to do with partitioning in our phones. You need to use Odin to install it. These are the directions I followed:
Pull out the battery and reinsert.
Press and Hold Volume Down + Home + Power Button until you see a warning!!
Press Volume Up button.
Your device will now enter the download mode.
Connect your phone to the PC.
Let it install some drivers.
Open Odin and click on PIT
Select that .PIT file you downloaded.
Check the box – Re-partition and Click Start.
After the successful attempt to re-partition the device, Flash with new firmware(which you downloaded from SamMobile)
Browse the downloaded firmware to the PDA section in Odin.
Don’t check the re-partition box this time.
Click Start and wait.
As soon as the process completes, your phone will boot. and it won’t stuck at welcome screen.
PIT files for US ONLY phones can be found here:

This finally worked for me, but use at your own risk.
Hi, I decided to write here, I hope you can help me out.
So today I tried to root my phone with the instructions found at https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68696079&postcount=114
I checked that my build no. is S288, so with rooting there would be no data loss for me (I still backed up everything important of course)
First problem I came across was that I had to found how to download QFIL, I downloaded and installed version 1.0.0.2 I think.
Second was that I couldn't get the Qualcomm Com port to show in QFIL neither in Device Manager. I figured out that as well, by doing loads of research (googling)
I also installed ADB to help me get into the state where I see the Qualcomm port, because normally if I just power it off, and connect it to my PC, it powers on in the "charging interface"
So everything was working, I downloaded the P1a42_S288_160721_ROW_RAW_QFIL file, extracted it, filled in everything in the QFIL program and hit Download while holding the + & - buttons to enter TWRP mode or whatever it is called. It returned with this:
Code:
PROGRAM: Send raw data fail
Failed to write I:\Telefon Mentsek\Lenovo Vibe P1\Root (2017,03,11)\P1a42_S288_160721_ROW_RAW_QFIL\recovery_twrp.img to the device
Download Fail:System.Exception: Failed to upload the emmc images to the phone using Firehose
...
Download Fail: FireHose Fail FireHose Fail
Finish Download
Sorry, I can't write down everything bc I already closed the program, so I'm writing these off of screenshots
I already tried other USB cables, other USB ports, other drivers, even other ROMS, but everytime I try, I get this message:
Code:
Download Fail:System.Exception: Unable to download Flash Programmer using Sahara Protocol
at QC.QMSLPhone.Phone.QPHONEMS_SaharaArmPrgDownload(String sFileName)
at QC.SwDownloadDLL.SwDownload.QPHONEMSSaharaDownloadArmPrg(UInt64& version, String armPrgPath)
Download Fail:Sahara FailSahara Fail
Finish Download
So currently I can't power on the device in any way, tried holding + and -, + and power, - and power, home and power, home power and +, home power and -, home power + -
Please help me, I would be really glad Cheers!
Also, sorry if my English is a bit poor, I'm a 15 year old boy who's native speaking lang is not English
P.S. I also don't know if I broke my warranty with this or not, because I technically have not rooted the phone, just did something else. And also, what if someone would've stolen it and I would've got it back and I wouldn't be able to turn it on because the thieves have broken it? (That is not the case right now, just asking).
PS 2: I have an alarm at 0:00 today, but I doubt that the phone is just gonna magically turn itself on for the alarm, we'll see. I may also try to leave the phone to completely discharge (I remember now why I didn't want to buy a phone with a built-in battery)
EDIT: I didn't mention, that the first time I tried to flash, I was using files from a Directory that's path contains both spaces and unknown (?) characters (é) (only unknown by the software) as seen above in the first box.

Dear Pls follow this link
https://forum.xda-developers.com/vibe-p1/how-to/lenovo-vibe-p1-a42-c72-root-ready-t3533693
You can see the qualcomm driver only when you switch off phone and hold Volume+/- plus power button.
I can't bc my phone won't turn on currently,
So I probably shouldn't have used ADB to get into fastboot or whatever, my phone may be broken because I tried to do the flash while in that state.
Did you read my whole post though?
The next thing I'll try then is uninstalling all the drivers and programs related to my phone, and then following the guide you suggested, because I still see the Qualcomm port, I just can't do anything with my phone.
OMG, I have waited a few hours, and just randomly thought why not try again flashing the rom (I don't think this is the right word for the QFIL Download procedure), and it worked! So I'm actually really happy I don't need to send it in to repair or try other things. I got the system I started the procedure with, so I didn't actually lost any of my files neither did I root my phone. Now to decide if I want to try again rooting it with the detailed instructions you sent or just leave it like this so I avoid getting into all this again. I think I will try again to root it lol why not
Will report back here if it was successful
I have successfully rooted my phone, and installed the Xposed Framework on my phone, so I'm really happy.
I can't really seem to find where to lock this thread so please someone lock this thread (I am not familiar with this forum, so I don't know if it is needed or not)

You can't revert if you flash MM bootloader, which unfortunately good sir. You have done.
Hello,
I have three Note 4 phones in the family and the latest update (*DQH1) caused one of them to frequently shut down, not charging and not able to boot. Only solution is pull battery and soft boot to restart. It will also get stuck at the hard reset screen (robot with Downloading...) Sprint tech said, "too bad you need a new phone!"
After reading some posts here I decided to use Odin V3.12 and older firmware **DQC1, **DQE1 and **DQF1. I followed the instruction from Updato (@zxz0O0, @peterjitg) but experiencing "Failed" message using Odin.
Here are my steps & observation:
-Put phone in Download mode
-Run Odin. Device appears as Blue (0:COM6)
-Load firmware (N910PVPS4DQF1_N910PSPT4DQF1_N910PVPS4DQF1_HOME.tar.md5)
-Press start and immediately "Failed"

<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)-Tried pulling USB cable and repeat. Tried different firmware version. Same Failed msg.
Phone has the following msg:
UDC START mmc_read failMMC: mmc_read failODIN : flash read failureWhat else can I do? Please help!!! Thank you.
I have read about mmc read fail many times, so is it better not to update the phone anymore?
Someone reflashed Android 5.1 and the phone works again with sudden restarts and overall bad performance. He installed wake look power manager app and the phone becomes normal again!

Thanks for the info. I did more research on this forum regarding "mmc_read fail". So it seems that many Note 4 were affected after MM update and the hardware ruined! I have three Note 4s and only one is affected. Not all. No fix at all!
The only way to keep using the phone without having to pull the battery each time is to install the WakeLock PowerManager App from Google Play. Setting to level 4. So far, the phone has not shutdown. Will be looking to get another phone, maybe the Pixel2 :good:
dang.. i thought i was the only one..
so no solution?
I had the same issue on qh1 but I wanted to root it anyway. I saw that error once, so I closed Odin and tried again but this time I got another error, something with r/l locked. So I rebooted my phone, went to settings and unticked the reactivation lock. Odin to root again and it worked. My phone is rooted now and running normal. Took me 2 weeks to root the phone newbie
Not sure if the reactivation locked fixed my issue, but that was the only nothing I did. Maybe I was just lucky. It fixed both of the errors
MMC is the multi media card (to clarify, not the sdcard but the actual storage chip on the motherboard)
recognition and utilization of the mmc chip is hardware based or may involve some drivers that are stored off of the MMC chip itself and independent of firmware.
it is a coincidence that the failure occurs around the time of an update, and not unusual if temperamental. it could be a crack in the chip, it could be a crack in a solder contact or a damaged line on the circuit board. whatever the case, warming up and cooling down can expand or shrink ever so slightly the physical components allowing to sometimes function and causing it to sometimes not and the extent of how much this affects your specific device depends entirely on where the failure physically occurred and how severe it is so very few causes will behave exactly the same however all mmc_read_failed note 4's should experience the same symptoms.
there is no fix, just a matter of time before complete failure, so get ALLLLLL your data off it ASAP while you still can and start looking for a new phone. the value of a MMC failed note 4 is the value of it's screen, bezel, stylus, and attached accessories. everything else is garbage.
Just install TWRP with ODIN and download any aosp rom and flash that zip with gapps and your phone will be as good as new.
I have been upset about this problem for several days.:crying::crying::crying:
A few days ago, my phone was turned off because there was no power, but when I plugged it in and restarted, it appeared on my screen: custom binary blocked by frp lock.
I tried using odin3 with the original rom to fix him but it didn't work, and I have tried dozens of update packages in a few days.
I think it may be because this one was bought by a former person into an unofficial 9.0 file but I don't know the version of the file.
After searching, I think it is enough to install the original system, but I have failed!
The Odin3 versions I have tried are: 3.11.1, 3.13.1, 3.12.3.
I also tried multiple versions of Rom from different sites, but each failed.
My computer can successfully read the phone, but when I put the file, press start, it will display the fail immediately, then the phone will appear " kernel rev check fail device 2 binary 0" or "kernel rev check fail device 3 binary 2."
If I only choose '' CP '', I can succeed. If I check other, it must fail.
Last but not least, I have another question, that is, my mobile phone is from Taiwan, and the model written on the back is N930FD, but my Download Mode shows that my mobile phone is N930F.
Here are the information currently displayed on my screen:

你试试用Odin刷入TWRP,然后在TWRP里面卡刷9.0固件包试试
