Can you be more specific here as to what and where you are talking about?

Just to try to clarify, this folder is for the cache files created by the XDA app. It is necessary for the operations of the app. If you open the XDA app and click on settings, scroll down to the bottom, you can clear its contents by clicking reset cache.
This is created by the Tapatalk app.

With android essentially being a Linux based operating system. Is there any apps to clean up the system folders.
For examplecon windows I would have thecregistry cleaner and ccleaner.
I'm not just thinking of a cache cleaner

What do you mean with "clean"? If you mean deleting system apps which you do not use and can be deleted, there are two ways.
First way, if you are s-off:
Use an explorer which has root rights, navigate to /system/app and delete.
Second way, if you are not s-off (you can also do this if you are s-off, of course):
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Barebones
On this linked you also find a nice table, which tells what you can delete and what not.
I hope this helps you.
no.
The system directory is read only so nothing can be left there.
I think a cache cleaner is about the best your going to get.

With adb or an explorer with root rights (only if one is s-off) you can mount the /system partition from r/o (read only) to r/w (read/write). In r/w you can delete apps from /system partition.

Can't agree more, but as you said /system is ro, the op wants to use something similar to ccleaner or a regcleaner for windows to clean up the system directory of files that are no longer required or old logs or whatever, not just apps, since /system is ro there is nothing there to clean up.
There is no need for such a cleaner in android or linux, imho. Never read/heard why it should be.

As I can see he is S-OFF (from signature) so he will be able to delete system files - if he wants to. Still this isn't recommended to be used by anyone, unless you know exactly what you are doing.
Anyway I don't think he was looking for a way to delete the files himself, but for an automate app that does the job.
As timmaaa said the application 1-Click Cleaner could be what you are looking for, even though it won't delete unnecessary files in system folder (if these even exist? ).
I don't know the ins and outs of it.. apparently it just clears unused cache etc.. its only a few MB at a time though

There is none. The previous posters stated /system is ro. On the more practical side, files being created on /system, would hypotetically change the space available there, which is not the case as the ammount of space is always the same. Cache cleaner is the best you are going to get. Not that you need anything else. This ain't the Windowz.
I think 'SD Maid' from the market is what you are looking for

This is what I wanted, as I know /system is read only but when I use root explorer there are unnecessary files such as logs which I have been deleting without any hassle. Which the cache cleaners haven't picked up. Also not just in the system folder but the few others that can be accessed.

Hey guys,
I was hoping for some advice. I installed Jelly Bean and I cant find my music files or my pics. Now if I run root explorer I can find them in the SD card menu but if I just open gallery or music they will not be there.
Now I wanted to move them so I can actually access them and have tried two ways. Using root explorer and copy and pasting the folder. That did not work. And then I was going to just move the files around by connecting my phone to my computer. When I do this I cant even access my SD card for some reason. And yes USB debugging is on and checked.
So how do I get these files to where I need them? Any help would be amazing. Thank you in advance guys.
This is for development only . But files should be in there unless you partitioned the SD card. Maybe try using a different cord or plugging in a different USB. Happens to me a couple of times so I have to locate file in my computer.

Install and run SDRescan from the market.
Go to the folder where they are stored and look for ".nomedia" file and delete it from the folder and then the galley and music app should find them

None of these options worked....and no its not my cord because I can access files just not the ones I need.

Well there is at least someone else with my issue. Now can anyone tell us how to fix?
The problem I am having is my photos do not appear after I take them, but if I go and sort out display options in the gallery by date they appear. All of my music is there and no problems. I didn't have this issue when I first went to jb. BTW I have a gsm nexus

Hi,
Do you see your specific files in ICS?
Have you tried Menu > Refresh?
Have you tried clearing Gallery data?
Have you tried fixing permissions in recovery?
Think out of the box

Could also be ROM related. Have you tried a different Jelly Bean ROM?
Here comes probably a solution
Guys, for those having issues with Media process, where Pictures & Musics don't show up, here's the solution that worked for me:
I got it from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21746289&postcount=2 (thanks Chrono_Tata).
Based on what Chrono_Tata wrote, I decided to create a ".nomedia" file in my main personal directory, where contains pictures, musics, personal files and so on.
(For those not familiar with Linux, the ". (dot)" in the beginning of the filename is very important! It means that it's a hidden file. You can create it through ES File Explorer)
For testing purposes, I copied some musics / pics to directories out of that my structure.
Then, stopped and cleaned data for: Gallery, Google Music and Media . Afterwards, restarted phone.
Bingo. It did work, and I could see the pics/musics outside my main directory (although it takes a while to re-scan everything, so wait! Gallery and Music will show nothing until scan is complete).
Well, after I realized it did work, I continued in the following way:
1) Delete the previous ".nomedia" file that I created
2) Create a new one under some sub-directory.
3) Repeat process for re-scan
I did it until I found which directory had an issue (btw, my pictures directory).
I think it might be related to thumbs.db file created by Win, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I still have to check carefully my structure to find the issue.
Hope it helps.
Regards,
Adriano.

Thumbnails cache
Actually there's an easier method to solve your problem without having to delete photos/manually clearing cache, if youre on linux, just right click, create a new file and rename it to ".thumbnails". Then delete the thumbnails folder on your android, and copy this file there, the result is that a folder cannot have the same name as a file, thus your thumbnails cache wont be generated. For windows users, youll have to download notepad++ application, and click on new file, dont type anything, click on save> change file type to "all types" and enter file name as ".thumbnails", Problm solved!!
Hi all, was wondering if there was a way that I can restrict the Gallery app on my Note 2 to just a single folder instead of scanning the entire phone?
I read a post on the net that said placing a ".nomedia" empty text file in a directory will cause the media scanner to ignore that directory but that does not seem to work in Jelly Bean.
Thanks all
CM
It should still work. Try a force close on the gallery, clear the cache for that app (from programs, not recovery clean cache), and open gallery again.

I am following the .nomedia method and it works fine with latest update.. As said in the above post, try to clear cache..It might solve your problem.
Are you trying to write .nomedia in a txt file and than placing it in a folder????
Create any file and rename it to just .nomedia and than place where ever you want than goto settings/application manager find gallery and clear data.
If it still doesn't work for you try an app called "vault" from play to hide picture and videos if it helps

Thank you, thank you!! Yes, that worked perfect!
Thanks to all who responded to my question. I finally got it working with the ".nomedia" file after force stopping the Gallery app and clearing its data.
And how to hide folder from dropbox in gallery? Not all folders, just few of them?
.nomedia method seems to not working here?
I'm using a Bell I317M and recently flashed the official 4.3 update. I have noticed that I see duplicate entries in the gallery and have traced it down to the fact that I have two paths mapped to the SD card: /storage/extSdCard and /mnt/extSdCard
I don't recall this happening prior to the update. I believe it's related to a new way of referencing the external SD cards but is there a way to fix this so that the stock gallery app doesn't think they are completely different locations and show duplicates?
Actually, this is not only restricted to the stock gallery app. I have the stock android gallery app and it's doing the same thing!
Are you using more than one gallery ??
Or more than one camera app?
Both will create and place duplicates...
Just a thought.... g

I have both the Samsung stock gallery app and the Stock JB gallery installed. As for camera, I mainly use the Samsung stock camera app. But how (and why) would it create duplicates? New pics get saved to the DCIM location on the external SD card.
But since I have 2 logical paths to that location (one through /mnt and another through /storage), the gallery shows duplicates....

Have you flashed or dirty flashed roms? I've seen it where this can happen. Most likely the double gallery apps are doing this. Can you delete the non samsung app and see if that worked?

Agreed ....
Use TIBU and freeze one of the apks then delete it's associated duplicate folder...
Then test it...
Also ...make sure that you don't have 2 cameras set as system apps or they will both create folders on boot...g

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to look into that.
re: dirty flashing. the only thing I can think of was the in-place upgrade of the official 4.3 upgrade which I flashed through ODIN. I did not wipe prior or after the upgrade.

This is an easy fix that worked for me.... I had a directory that duplicated itself, and two more that wouldn't even show in the gallery.
1. I had a couple of directories duplicate themselves when they were originally created in the emulated directory and I "moved" it to my SD card... then when viewed in gallery it showed two directories "both in SD card"..... all I did was copy this whole directory to a different location on the sd card "copy not move", then went back and deleted the original directory. Then took my copy and moved it back to my original location. Then when viewing gallery only one directory was visible "the right one".
Others recipes may work, but this one did for me...
2. Directories that were invisible were fixed simply by renaming the directory using ES explorer, go to gallery and confirm they now all show then go back in es explorer and rename back to what you had them before "if you wish".......
Now go into Gallery a second time and you should still see the directories with names back to original as you've named them. your fixed!
I think mine got messed up with I created a file called .nomedia inside the directory... while it did remove the directory from view in gallery "like it's supposed to do", when that file was deleted, the directory was still invisible.... Even after hard reboot, clearing system cache and partition cache....but the above fixed it
