Any Camera app errors when switched to front facing camera. Snapchat also become unresponsive when switched to front facing camera. After many months of trying to figure out why, I've come to the conclusion that I must not have a front facing camera! I found this ridiculous since the G3 was advertised with one and even states on the T-Mobile site that it has one. I gave up on continuously clearing the app's cache and switched to google camera. (Its easier to switch to front camera on stock app than google cam) so as long as I didn't switch into the front camera the app worked fine and pictures with the rear camera are beautiful! I don't even get the blueish tint that many others get. After the lollipop update I can't even access my camera apps without them erroring or becoming unresponsive. Why would I be having so many troubles with a much anticipated cell phone that I tried very hard to attain? I would absotutelylutely love some help with this! I kinda need this phone to last me in good condition throughout college. Any and all help would be appreciated!
Thank you.

I am not rooted, stock lollipop update from T-MOBILE.
You were 100% stock and not rooted and took the update?....have you talked to tmo?

No, not yet. I wanted to see what someone here on XDA would know about it first. Maybe if rooting would be a good idea? But yeah I see what you're saying. I should probably check with T-Mobile.

It looks like a bad sensor. Is it happening consistently in different camera apps? What happens if you try a camera app such as Camera360 that lets you alter the ISO (in normal mode)?
If possible, can you upload samples taken against a solid white background under even lighting?
Please, anyone??? i have the same problem.... i've changed the camera, still fail
sounds like a hardware issue gents.

I had the exact same issue on HTC G2, it's indeed hardware. The great news is it's just a mechanical issue: Push on the camera, perpendicular to the battery case (straight into the phone). It will fix this issue.
Lots of success with this method at androidforums. I cannot post a link, but google "androidforums evo camera 152727"
Cheers

+1. I had this with all three of the G1's I owned, and I had it with my G2 not too long ago. Not sure why this keeps happening, but just put the phone screen down on a table, and push down on the camera. One of the strangest fixes ever but hey, whatever works!
Hey everyone. I am an Optimus G user, but coming from Sprint's side of the land. I know well enough that we have camera problems (no auto focus) on AOSP roms (camera is great on stock ROMs), but I was wondering if you guys had any issues with camera on your AOSP builds? Maybe some of us could collab with devs here and see what we can do. Our AOSP ROMs would literally be perfect (and a LOT would be officially supported) once the camera issue gets out of the way. I heard that we borrow a lot of custom code from the Nexus 4, which is why our camera is so screwed up, but I also heard the Sprint and International Optimus G's have the same 13mp camera, so here's to hoping for something. Thanks to anybody who takes out the time to look at this and respond!

Anyone...?
Official cm works great, no camera issues (But pictures still ****ty though), i think thats the reason of no responses.
On aosp, auto focus stops working when you exit camera app for 1st time. And starting to work if you wipe camera, till next exit.
Probably on exit its sending invalid lense parking settings to camera, causng it to hang. Or something like that

Yes, nothing works.
Would anybody have any idea how to fix our camera? Its definitely a software issue and not hardware. A member of ours got down to the API level, but doesn't know how to edit stuff. Could anybody help us? Please?
The camera on my Sprint Note II says "Camera Failed" every time I open it. I have tried restoring to stock firmware, reflashing my ROM, wiping all cache, etc. The problem persists.
I am going to buy a new camera module as a last ditch effort, but I want to make sure there's no special version that I need. Is the camera module for a N7100 compatible with my Sprint Note II?
Also, has anybody else experienced this problem and figured out a resolution? Am I wasting my money by ordering a replacement camera module?

I dont think the module is compatible with sprint. U can only flash sprint stuff with sprint phones unless it has been ported. If it was an apk no need to flash. Just put it in the system/app drawer and change the permission to r-w-r-r( I think thats right lol.)
This place has a lot of good stuff at good prices it looks like. I'm going to have to do the front camera soon as it hasn't been working for a while.

I think I'm having a hardware issue though, not software. The camera won't function on any apps that try to use it, and I'm running digiblurROM for the Sprint Note II. It was working for a couple months until it randomly conked out.

Thanks for that link. It looks like the front camera module is specific to the L900. Too bad they don't have a rear camera. Even when I use the Camera app and try to switch to the front camera, I still get the Camera Failed notice. I'm not sure if both of my cameras are bad or if a bad rear camera is preventing my front from working.

I've only tried digiblurROM and the stock ROM. I used Odin to flash back to stock. I know the flash was successful since I had to re-root and the phone was once again filled with bloatware. After this failed to solve the camera problem, I flashed back to digiblurROM. This is why I'm thinking my problem is hardware based. I have to be careful which ROMs I flash to, because my phone is flashed to work with Page Plus Cellular rather than Sprint. I believe certain ROMs could interfere with my Page Plus activation.
Hi all
What's everyone using for your camera app?
I find the standard camera OK for stills, but the auto focus is awful, I've not managed to take a picture of anybody's face without blur, picture gets deleted straight away.
Quite disappointed, my Nexus 5 could at least take a picture of someone smiling without blurring.
No issues here using the stock camera ...
Have you tried other apps? If yes, are results better?
Some people were reporting hardware related focus issues. Check different apps, if all have problems focusing it's probably hardware's fault. (but it's also pretty easy to fix).

I've tried a cold of apps(snap camera, and a old version of Google camera) snap camera seemed slightly better but kept crashing. How would a hardware fault be easily fixed?
Im running freedom rom latest community build.

Multiple people reported fixing the problem by stuffing something in the gap beside the sensor (the phone needs to be opened, obviously). There is a video guide, if I remember correctly (sorry, don't have links).

as the title says, recently when I open my camera app, the rear camera is unable to focus no matter what I do, the same happens with snapchat and other camera apps. I was wondering if this is an issue within the rom or if its a general OP3 issue and if anyone could help me attempt to fix it.
I'm on SultanXda's rom with the 19th of Feb patch. (would post this on the rom's page but my account is too new to reply on that)
Thanks in advance
Even I have this kind of issue and I am using resurrection reimx ROM. The camera is not focusing. Neither in the camera app nor in the apps like snapchat.
Hope someone has a solution for this.

really hope so, bit troubled at the moment since I can't take any photos
Just tried with rom-delieverd-snapcamera, and the focus is just working fine.
Just touch the screen, where to focus and snap.
Maybe you can give us some hint to reproduce?

sadly touch focus isnt working on my phone, starting to think it might be a hardware issue instead since it just suddenly started happening. I'm not too sure what is different from when it was working either :/ just that one day touch focus stopped working and auto focus stopped as well.
So you can wait for an update, or any other reported issues with focus on sultans rom oder you might try another rom, if it still exists, to make sure, its not a HW issue.
Ehy guyz, it is an hardware problem. U can fix it opening the phone and using some scotch to maintain in place the camera. Or send it in RMA. Or use a magnet near the camera, out of the phone's case as is possible to see in attached photo
