[Q] Galaxy S3 Hyper-sensitive Power Button - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Good Morning everyone. I am new to Android Central. I have never had any issues with my G3 prior to yesterday. I was using the phone all day no issues and then suddenly I went to press the power button to check my email and barn it rebooted so I thought it was just a random crash and was ready to move on. When it came back up (restarted) initially I was able to access it. Once the screen dimmed and turned off I tried to press the power button to turn it back on and it vibrated and rebooted again. I tried removing the battery for a couple minutes places it back in and then trying again. Same result. I removed the case and the back panel and noticed that simply putting my finger anywhere near the power button even on the black plastic near it caused it to be activated. Most of the time by the time it reboot it shuts back down. There was a couple times I was able to keep it running. Now being one of those. I backed up my files and did some reading but wanted to get some feedback specific to my situation. Any help would be wonderful and please let me know if you need more information I would be happy to provide.

Sounds like your power button is starting to fail and needs to be replaced, mine did the same thing. You can usually get that fixed relatively cheap.

Need help. Some problems with my slide

Hey guys, i have some problems that i hope somebody can help with. My phone isnt rooted, basically out of the box stock, but ive had it since the day it came out. So shes got some time on her.
It was working perfectly till about a day ago. Then all of a sudden the screen would not stay off for more than a second. I would push the lock button and it would turn off, but the lighted buttons (home, back, etc) would stay lit. Then the screen would turn back on a second later. But i found that if i push the lock button and immediately push it again, the lighted buttons will also turn off and the screen will stay off. If i hold the lock button it will just flash the menu with the options to power off options (airplane mode, silent mode, etc..), but immediately disappear. But if i hold the lock button till just before that menu would pop up, it wont always disappear.
Also sometimes when i try to open any app it will close automatically, popping up with a recent apps menu that ive never actually seen before. I can push back and the menu will go away and i can try to open the app again. Usually successful the second time.
And last my battery life has gone down the drain. It went from fully charged to empty in about 7 hours. It used to last much longer. The screen might be on in my pocked, so that could be the problem, but i try to check it often to see if its on.
Just hoping that someone will know if this is a hardware or software problem. The phone was perfect in the morning, and a few hours later the problems started.
I have android version 2.2.1, froyo i believe.
Any help will be really appreciated. Sorry for the long post, just trying to be specific.

[Q][Power/lock button randomly failing

Have had the Galaxy Nexus for maybe two weeks, and now the power button has randomly started to fail. Have searched other threads, but my issue seems to be a bit unique.
Just installed the SGP wet-apply screen protector, let it sit for a few hours, put the battery back in the phone, held the lock button down and it booted up. Worked fine for a few minutes, then the lock button wouldn't do anything. Screen timed out on its own, the lock button will not unlock the screen.
Pulled the battery, re-inserted it, and then the phone automatically boots up as if the power button is being held down. Once the phone powers up, if I keep the screen alive, after a few seconds it'll bring up the power menu like I was holding the button down. Lock button is still a no-go.
So I'm thinking one of a few options:
1. This, like many others I have read about, might just be an issue with the Nexus.
2. Installing the screen protector caused water damage (which would be a total fail, I work in wireless, I put on InvisibleShields all day)
3. The solution from the screen protector somehow managed to get into the lock button area and is making it sticky.
Any suggestions? Anything I can try out to potentially make this work? Been about 15 hours since I applied the screen protector now, and getting the same results. Put the battery in after a few hours, works fine for like the first 20 times, then lock button fails again.
UPDATE:
Well, let it sit, booted it up, same problem. Restarted, got the JB update when I restarted the device...now no problems. Go figure.

Phone Continuously reboots need help!

What basically happens is the first time i was doing something and i guess my phone decides to randomly bring up the boot menu with, screenshot shot, airplane mode, power off, reboot, etc, so i click that to go away and continue what i was doing and it just reboots on me i don't even have to click the lock button anymore and it does that and this all happen randomly out of nowhere can anyone help me
Had the same issue when used old Nokia. It was related to physical button which "pressed" on itself after my phone was under rain. I disassembled the phone and let it dry, that helped.
Happened to me last month.
Try to gently but forcibly flick or hit the power button.
It would appear as though as time goes by, our phones power button keeps getting sticky, and decides to get stuck.
I hit my phone off my desk a couple of times onto the power button, and It worked.
Sent from my dictionary.

[Q] Please help! Random power off won't boot!

Okay I will try to sum this up. My S3 was working fine and everything randomly I noticed issues with battery calibration It would be 100% then I would calibrate it and then unplug and then I'd instantly drop to 85%. Thought It was a battery issue and made a point to get a new one later. Then it kept working for another month or so then It started really screwing up the shutdown menu would randomly pop up and I'd back out of it.
Then randomly 3 seconds later the phone reboots. And it would keep doing that randomly I thought it might be a power button issue. Then as time goes on it got really bad to where it would simply reboot and not make it past the bootloader, It would not "reboot" more like a complete shutdown then I'd have to power it again and have it do the same thing. Seeing how I could not even make it past the bootloader I got a new battery, waited a week for it and then I put it in and the same issue happened. It would not get past the bootloader.
So I kept trying and trying and trying and it finally booted past that. And it stayed on for a whole night. I did everything on it I normally would and it was working great. Then the battery was getting low so I plug it in and was going to calibrate it after it was charged, I go back to it and it's dead again won't get past the bootloader once again. I'm completely out of ideas on how to fix this I pop'd off the button and blew in there and the button seems fine and everything still no change. I also can not get into recovery. It trys and loads but then shuts off. Anyway if anyone has any ideas on what this is or how to fix please help! I need my phone back! Thank you.
I'm running MOAR Lite version.
UPDATE: Took the phone apart and took a close look at the button it looks 100% fine...I saw a video on youtube that requires you to complete tear the button off and it works. But I don't know if the button is my main cause of this issue or if it will actually work. Some says it works, some says it does nothing...Please let me know thanks...
UPDATE 2: It will show that battery with spinning circle in it for like 1 second then turn off again. (When it is plugged in)
That's odd. But when it comes to the power button, dismantling and what not 90% of the time will show 0 issues. It will look perfectly fine when it's not. You playing with the power button I assume were pressing hard and normally to try testing it. It's a common issues on this version of the S3 to have faulty power button and you would need to get it repaired. Odly even slightly atmospheric changes can cause it to act different at different points. Some days it works fine, other days a very slight brushing over can cause it to screw up and trigger a manual shut down (holding for like 10 or 15 seconds).
Assuming that it is the power button, or to try, just do a variation of things to the power button itself. Use your finger nail to jiggle it around with different pressures. During boot if it shuts off, it could be the power button internally stuck, just jiggle it around.
This is all I can think of unless you bring it in to get repaired.
I was encountering the exact same problem. I would try to get into download mode and it would sit at the "Downloading" screen for about 5-7 seconds then the display would go blank. It won't make it into recovery either. Based on the above recommendation I took the whole phone apart and sprayed a lot of compressed air directly on the power button mechanism and the plastic case pressing the button in. I didn't see anything broken with the button when I did that.
It seems to be working now, I can boot into my Rom. Don't know how long this fix will last.

Tab S4 WiFi - Screen not turning back on after timeout. Tablet still running.

Basically most of the post in the title.
I've been playing around, got it rooted with WETA, installed Kali, went back to Stock. In both Kali and now Stock, if the screen times out, or if I hit the power button to lock the screen, it will not come back up and only a hard reboot will get it back.
Same here. I’m rooted but stock rom. Been rooted for a while but this problem only started within last few days. Same exact issue. Booted into safe mode and problem still exists: if screen gets turned off or times out, can not get it to turn back on without hard reset.
I just factory reset mine. I use it for work so I wanted to see if I could reset and restore. During the setup process when it asked for the wifi password I went to the other office to get it and by the time I came back, the screen had timed out and would not come back on still. So, tells me it is not an app and is likely a hardware issue.
Edit: Well, now it seems to be working. I let it sit and restore for a while. Tried to turn the screen on and it took a bit longer than normal but it came on. So far it does not turn the screen on with a screen tap like it used to but it will turn on with a little delay after pressing the power button...
Update on my update: Tablet still has times where pushing the power button or tapping the screen does not turn it on. I basically have to make the motions as if I am opening the magnet case up and the screen will turn on. So, not all the way fixed...
