[Q] Sony MH1C Headset not supported... WHY? - Xperia Z1 Accessories

I have a Sony MH1C Headset and when it plug it says unsupported headphone....
its working on Sony Xperia Arc S..... Not working on Xperia Z1...(in lollipop they given the option to select headphone models)

Cause it's MH1, not MH1C and has OMTP connector type, not the new CTIA. It's not end for your headphones but will have to buy OMTP to CTIA adapter (from Ebay, for example)
Taken from head-fi.org:
Variation and Confusion
Bear with me here in this section as it is quite important if you are interested in getting a MH1. Let’s begin by explaining two standards used in making the 3.5mm TRRS plug on headset – OMTP and CTIA (both are organizations for mobile standards). For OMTP, the TRRS plug is wired as [Left-Right-Mic-Ground] (from tip-to-sleeve); for CTIA, the TRRS is wired as [Left-Right-Ground-Mic]. Since OMTP was initially endorsed by Ericsson (and Nokia, which still uses the OMTP standard), all of their cellphone, including those under the Sony Ericsson branding, uses this standard. It also got adopted by a few other cellphone manufacturers as standard before mid 2011, such as LG, Motorola, Sony and Samsung. In mid 2010, the OMTP organization transitioned itself into another organization (the WAC, if you are interest to know), and the OMTP standard for headset was subsequently being phased out by most manufacturers within the following year (* it takes time to sell off old models) in favor of the CTIA standard. Part of the big reason for adapting the CTIA standard might be due to the fact that it is the standard used by Apple on their iDevice, which represent a big share of the headset market. Standardization demands from political groups (i.e. the EU) also played a role to push for one headset standard that will work on both Android and iOS, as well as most dumbphones (except for Nokia, which doesn’t like to play with other for now)

[Q] ION earphones w/ mic

Ok so I saw this from the Xperia S board

Hi Guys
So after painstakingly reading through every message in this thread to ensure I do not paste a duplicate answer, I can inform you I have found the true problem regarding headphones.
Straight from the words of a Sony technician:
The cause of the incompatibility: Sony Xperia S supply 2V (Volts) purely from an energy consumption perspective. The microphone in the boundled Sony Mobile headset is Electret microphones that only require a 2V feed. For other suppliers (e.g. IPhones headsets) they can use MEMS microphones that require a minimum of 2,7V.
In order for fully compatibility, Sony smartphones need to supply a minimum of 2,7V. This requires a feature/HW change.
A feature/HW change has been submitted to be implemented in coming products.
So moral of the story is, Sony screwed us all...

Does this mean I can't use a mic similar to my X10? I tried using them earlier and I now know they dont work with my ION because Sony went with the CTIA format. So what do you guys use for a mic? I'm wanting to use a mic similar to the one that came with the X10, by that I mean I want to be able to plug in any earphones I want with the mic since earphones eventually break with one side not working. Thanks.
I'll check the ones I have. I have a set I got from my dell streak and the ones from my xperia s.

thanks because I use google hangouts with friends but the ion isn't exactly loud, even with xloud on
May not be exactly what you're looking for but I use Skullcandy Ink'd earbuds with the mic.
http://www.skullcandy.com/shop/headphones/earphones-and-earbuds/inkd
I've used these for probably the last 2 years, great sound quality, full refund too if they stop working, only thing I've had happen to mine were one of the buds stops working. Pretty durable for the price, I've only broken 1 pair from skateboarding/biking. Also most stores will carry them for $15 instead of $25 like listed on the site.
Tried the generic ones I got with my Dell Streak and they worked....gotta find my Xperia S headphones to try.
I think you should try out the Sony LiveSound Hi-Fi Headset, it cost a little bit of money but it sounds awesome! Comes with an in-line mic with built-in remote.
I personally use the Sony MW600 Stereo Bluetooth Headset, no wires extending to your phone in your pocket. just a short earbud wire that wraps around your neck. you can also disconnect the supplied wire and use a 3mm wire to plug into a stereo or your car's aux so you're completely hands free and the sound comes out of car's speakers.
Both of these are available on the Sony mobile online store, probably sold cheaper on amazon.
so the ION does support earphone's with mic and you guys have all tried out the mic ? sry for this question, I got my phone from best buy and so it didn't come with the earphones. Instead I've been using my earphones from my X10 and with the ION using the new standard and with the quote from my first post I was thinking that the ION didn't support the mic in earphone combo
I used the HTC buds that come with some of there WP7 devices. Worked like a charm.

From what I read, the LiveSound headset doesn't fully work on the 2012 Xperia phones. There's another pair called Smart headset that are fully compatible with the ion. They're basically the same set other than that.
I just ordered the MW600 headset, the design reminded me alot of the old Sony MiniDisc Walkman remotes. Seems really slick.
I have the Smart wireless headset pro MW1. They work great and the audio quality is awesome for music and calls.
I just didn't want to buy a pair that the ion wouldn't support, but I'll have to look and see which to get. I wan't the skullcandy ink'd 2 pair but idk if they'll work. time for some more research

The sound should be the same but MH1(LiveSound) is compatible with "sony erricson" devices and MH1c(Smart Headset) is compatible with the new "sony" devices so be sure that your device is in the list.
More information you can find in the following article wrote on sony mobile site: talk.sonymobile.com/message/154264#154264
There are two major standards out there for headsets, OMTP and CTIA. Sony Ericsson phones follow the OMTP standard along with other manufacturers, while other follows the CTIA standard.
The difference of these two standards is the wiring to the 3,5mm plug. Therefore if you connect a CTIA headset to a Sony Ericsson phone you might get reduced functionality or it might not work at all. (Depending on accessory and phone model)
If your headset is listed as "compatible with iPhone" it follows the CTIA standard.
If you have a headset that follows the CTIA standard that you would like to use with your Sony Ericsson phone you could contact your local repair center to check if you can order the adapter 1249-0456 EC250 to convert to OMTP.
For more information about local repair centers contact your local support team.
When it comes to headphones (no mic) there is only one standard out there, so any 3,5mm headphones works with your Sony Ericsson phone.
NOTE.
Sony Xperia S, Xperia P and Xperia U uses the CTIA standard so you won't need the adapter above to get your CTIA headset to work with these models. But if your problem is the other way around, you would like to use a OMTP headset with your Sony Xperia you will have to look for a adapter converting OMTP to CTIA.

i9300 SIII Headset Reccomendations?

Hi,
I'm looking for a headset for my S3. The features that I want include an in-line mic, flat aka 'Tangle-free' cable and preferably white under or around £20. I've previously used the Sony LiveSound Hi-Fi headset on my previous Xperia Arc S and now i'm trying to find an equivalent for my S3. Although the LiveSound's carried an RRP of £69.99, I got them (genuine) on eBay for less than a tenner. If not could you please find a cable that would allow me to use my OMTP LiveSound headset on my CTIA S3 port.
Thanks beforehand.

Look for the Jays A-jay One+
Those one are make for Android, uses the flat cable and sound quality is good.
If you liked the Sony headset, why not just get the same one? ...the Sony MH1c (the "c" version being compatible with the S3).
It was available for relatively cheap on Amazon & eBay in the past (in bulk packaging), but now the going rate seems to be above your budget. Still, you can keep your eye out for a set if you're patient. Plus, it comes in white, too (albeit usually a bit higher in price).

As the person above me said. Just grab the MH1C's. The older model MH1 is useless, so make sure the one you buy says Sony written on the earphones. If the earphones carry the Sony Ericsson Logo then they are the MH1's which you don't want

Sony Ericsson MW600?

Was thinking of getting the MW600 as I needed a new pair of headphones, but I was wondering is it OMTP (Like the XPERIA right now) or CTIA (iPhone etc)?
If it was CTIA, it would be an alternative for me instead of waiting 25 days for one of those adapters from Hong Kong to Come, then again if I wait I can get it for 99p..
OMTP and CTIA are headset wired connector standards, like you said, CTIA for iPhone and OMTP for almost every other device.
The MW600 only works with standard 3.5mm stereo headphones, as it already haves an integrated microphone and call button. If you connect a headset (4 or more rings in the plug) it will not work, you'll get audio, but an L+R sum because of the missing ground connection as it's in the far back ring, not touched by any pin in the MW600's audio out connector. You can try connecting a CTIA headset, but it will likely not work as intended.
TL;DR> MW600 only works with standard headphones, not headsets.
