[Q] Chromecast Partially Working - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, Has anyone been able to get Chromecast to work with our M9?...Please let me know if there is a hidden setting to turn it on or something else. I am able to connect to all my devices but my Chromecast and my Nvidia Shield tablet connects ok with it so the device is working.
Thanks.
Chingonazo

Works fine on my M9, no special setup required.
I had it paired with an HTC One X. Got the M9 and downloaded the Chromecast app, launched and it found it and connected fine and casts with no issues.
Maybe try clearing data and cache in the app defaults or a factory reset on the Chromecast itself?

Hi ZombieSuffer, I appreciate the suggestion, I did that but still no go, Just so I am clear what my issue is, I can cast individual apps but I am not able to mirror the entire phone like I can do with my M7 or Shield tablet. I Also tested it with my Roku 3 player and same problem.
Thanks
Chingonazo

Oh, I see. Not sure if this helps but I found a thread around 9 months old that might have some steps you can run through to get it to mirror.

[Q] HDMI via Onkyo AMP

Good Morning,
I picked up a fire tv box yesterday and I am having trouble connecting it to my onkyo amp.
I plug it directly into my TV and it works fine, but when plugging it into my amp, all i get is a blue screen.
I tried altering the display from auto down to 1080p 50/60hz, but still nothing.
The box came pre loaded with xbmc, would it be something in there that is causing it ?
Has anyone else had this issue ? Any ideas on how i can get round it ?
Pete
I have just noticed that i put this in the wrong forum, please can a mod move it to the correct one. Thanks

I just noticed the part about xbmc being preloaded on your firetv? I'm guessing you bought this used?!? If so, that might be part of the problem.

I run mine thru an Onkyo and it works fine. I pass thru DTS via XBMC. Great. You should really ask this question on the Onkyo forums and provide way more information about your setup.

Not sure if there is some confusion but I was responding to the OP. I was asking him if he might have bought his AFTV used since it does not come with XBMC installed. And not to keep this going or anything, but I can guarantee if he asked his question in Onkyo forums their response would be for him to go to AFTV, XBMC, or possibly XDA (although I doubt it) forums for an answer.

Right the FireTV doesn't come with XBMC stock.
I have mine hooked up to an Onkyo NR414 (I believe) and it works fine. ALTHOUGH there were one or two HDMI cables that would give me a screen about HDCP, not sure if it was a blue screen. Try different HDMI cables.
Hi guys
Thanks for your help.... Spend this morning swapping hdmi cables round. Now it works a treat !!

excellent. Another thing to pay attention to is which box is powered up first. The order that seems to work best for me is TV, then amp, then FireTV.

Chromecast freezing Samsung Galaxy tab s

I just installed Chromecast to use with my tablet. The screen freezes after 3 to 30 seconds when viewing youtube and other online videos but seems to play videos installed on my tablet without a problem. I have tried just about everything I can think of to overcome this issue but with no success. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app many times, and have reset the chromecast many times as well. From my online searches for an answer, I see that I am not the only one having this problem. Has anyone found a solution to this issue?
No issues here, are you casting natively or screen casting?

Thanks for responding. I am screen casting. (Not sure what casting natively is.)

Why are you screen casting when you can cast directly to Chromecast?
Screen casting can tend to be laggy.
I don't know how to cast directly. Lagging is not the problem. After anywhere from 3 to 30 seconds, the screen freezes on the TV and on my tablet and then the tablet reboots automatically and then I have to start over (with no success).

The whole point of chromecast is that it plays streams directly.
You can mitigate your problem by doing this.
Practically any stream, be that Web, local, or server based can be cast to Chromecast natively.
For casting from the Web there are 2 great apps one is Web video caster and another is Vegacast. Both will cast practically anything Web based.
Simply open the page where the web stream/media is then click the More button in stock browser then Share and then Web Video Caster.
Finally select the media you wish to play.
It should then cast.
Or just open Web Video Caster first and then navigate to the Web page required using its in built browser.

Thanks for your help. I was able to get things working by following the directions in another post "How to directly cast from android device in tethering WiFi AP mode" quoted below:
"I directly sent both local media from my device and internet media to chromecast connected to WiFi AP in tethered mode from same device: a thing that was deemed impossible.
Procedure:
1) started WiFi tethering on main device (Galaxy Note 2, N7100, 4.1.2 firmware, N.E.A.K kernel);
2) long pressed chromecast button to reset and start configuration;
3) used a second android device, with chromecast application, to configure the chromecast dongle with main device WiFi cloud;
4) turned off second device;
5) started Bubbleupnp on main device;
6) in devices tab, selected chromecast as renderer and "local media server" as library;
7) then in library tab, chose a video, and believe it or not it started playing on chromecast yabbadabbadoo!
I also successfully casted music files, Google plus photos, dropbox files, and whatnot from Bubbleupnp.
Then I tried another app, mirror4cast, which mirrors the android device screen to chromecast, and you know, this worked perfectly too
Finally, I got arrogant and decided to try YouTube. The official app does not recognize the chromecast dongle in this setup, so instead of using it, I opened my browser (mobile Firefox) and loaded a web page with several embedded YouTube videos. To send them to the chromecast dongle, I used another third party application, Web Video Caster. Full success, in fact I am enjoying a Rolling Stones video while writing this
Now people please experiment and confirm my findings, to exclude I am hallucinating or I got an happily defective unit…"
you didn't mention in your original post you were tethering.
if you are using the Screen Mirroring option on the newer Chromecast 2015 model (the puck), unfortunately it is not supported on the Tab S line.
I found this out after trying to contact support for a week to get a straight answer. They finally told me its a beta feature and will not work with all devices. When asked if they will be updating the supported device list they told me they had no plans to do so.
So basically, if the mirror feature works, it works. If it don't work correctly with your device, you are sol until they decide to add more supported devices when they feel like it. Don't hold your breath though.
Some of the poorest customer service for a new device if you ask me. I still like it for streaming YouTube, Vudu, Google Play movies and the like.

I guess that would have helped. (I had to look up a definition of tethering.) Anyway, all's well that end well. I was able to get it to do what I want it to do. I was ready to take the Chromecast back to the store before I started asking questions on this forum. Just about every new piece of technology that is acquired requires a lot of information that most of us don't have.
Thanks again

I only wasted about 4 hours trying to figure out why it wasn't working. If I had known what you know, it would have saved a lot of time. It seemed like such a simple solution when we bought it, but nothing is ever simple when it comes to technology.
You can cast the screen using the official chromecast app, works for both chromecast 1 and 2.

on T700 it wont work for me. It gives an error saying this device may not be compatible, then when you try and screen cast it just does nothing.
I have the Puck style one (guess its know as 2015 or 2.0)

It says that on all my devices. I have both and both work fine to cast the screen using the chromecast cast app.

sorry man it just wont work for me. Just shows a black screen and disconnects itself.
After contacting support they said they have no plans to fix it since its a beta feature and there are too many devices.

Strange how it works on the t805 and not the t700.
Well there's hardly ever a time when you need to actually cast the screen.

yah i find it odd, but it shows that there is clearly a difference in the two that we are missing somehow.
Only thing I would use screen mirroring for is if I wanted to play some games on the big screen that don't have a cast feature already built in.
Screen mirroring works on my galaxy tab s 10.5 (t800) but not for video.
I can cast the screen just fine, but if I start a video on the tablet it will freeze and restart. Sometimes it happens immediately, sometimes it plays for some minutes and then freezes.
It has been like that since I bought the tablet. Many updates, but the issue was never solved. Happens on chromecast 1 and 2.

Settings installed via adb

I sideloadeded settings using adb in windows onto my unloacked firestick from the guide from ‘sideloadfiretv.com’ and the ‘settings’ do not work. When clicking on bluetooth, it disappears and reverts back to ‘Launch Applications’. Does anyone have an idea as to why it is not working?
Thanks

Hi thanks I must of missed that since I spent more time looking on other sites.... does that rule out all versions of 5? the latest being 5.05- I dont know the version I have even though I updatewd Kodi to Jarvis. I am trying to get the Direct TV tablet app that I sideloaded to work- do you that micro usb otg cable adapter would work?
TJ
No version of FireOS 5 will work with the settings.apk from pre-5.0 android.
why do you need to access the BT settings from this sideloaded settings apk? fireOS 5 has more BT support than fireOS3 did.

Hi I wanted the bluetooth settings to independantly control the andoid apps that I sideloaded, particularly the directv app for tablets but from what I understand a micro usb otg adapter (to plug the dongle inline to the firestick) will work probably better- one should be in today so I'll know when I get in. I did run into another problem, the directv app started having an error once clicking on channels stating I needed to be connected to the same network which I am and the same error comes up on 3 different tablets. I have yet to try the app that I sideloaded to the stick before I had issues witht the app working which I am guessing may be updates and if so do you know if the stick would update the app as well?
By the way I do have the latesd os OS the stick 5.0.5 that it showed so I still don't know why settings didn't work. Since I am not really as gamer, I opted for checking out the firestick as oppesed to the firetv since browsing was fast with the quad core processor on my Samsung smart tv unless the firestick does not utilize it. I may buy the ftv but if I do that why not just buy one of the new octacore android boxes with greater capabilitues.
Any thoughts on what may be the best way to stream the directv app? and or what the best streaming boxes might be?- I know some even stram live tv.
Thanks again,
TJ

Chromecast not working?

Hey guys,
i have a Mi 6 with unofficial RR running Oreo. When i install google home i cant see all my chromecast devices - even though thru YouTube app i am actually able to cast to all of them. Spotify however does not see them (but it does see other android devices having cast receiver installed).
At first i thought that my wifi setup might be messed up, but i tried an iPhone i had around and its working like a charm - seeing both Chromecasts and cast receiver devices.
I searched google and this forum, but couldnt find anything related.. - is anyone experiencing this kind of problem and do you have a solution?

Lets first find out if anyone else has similar problems (no matter what the ROM - because i had the same problem with another ROM)

Miracast support

I know Google dropped Miracast awhile ago, but I really really need it. Chromecast just isn't cutting it. Via build.prop (additions below), I've been able to see the Miracast device but it won't connect. Occasionally I'll even see my homescreen pop up, but it will immediately disconnect. I remember having this problem with an HTC 10 and it had to do with the wifi setting being in battery saver mode. I'm currently unlocked with Magisk on 8.1.0.
Has anyone been successful in getting Miracast to work??
build.prop modifications:
persist.debug.wfd.enable=1
wlan.wfd.hdcp=disable
persist.sys.wfd.virtual=1
I've not heard anyone getting it to work on the Pixel XL 2. Other than I saw this post in the Nitrogen thread here
Just use All Cast. You will need to pay for it, I think it's like $5, but I've been using it for years. Works great and with Chromecast and pretty much anything that allows DLNA. I cast to two TV's, my Nexus Player, XBOX, etc. using it.

Unfortunately I need to it mirror my screen, not just play media. Thanks though!
Hi folk, please I need mirror my Pixel 2 XL on TVs for my job. I've Chromecast ultra but it doesn't work with P2XL (it seems some technical issue made by 8.1.0) in the meanwhile I'm waiting for fix by big G do you know if All cast can do this job?

This might sound nuts, but is that Chromecast Ultra using a wired network connection? I have no idea the cause but i've had issues with some devices (a samsung tablet for example) connecting to the Chromecast Ultra when it was plugged into the wired connection, often just insta dropping, but it worked flawless when they both were using wireless. Other devices like a Nexus 6p connected perfectly in both network configurations.
Any idea which custom ROMs support Miracast besides Nitrogen OS Oreo? I really need the screen mirroring ability to a windows 10 laptop.
