Hey guys!
My Xperia Arc S is kinda new - 1 month old.
I was on Xperia Ultimade HD Rom for a while and wanted to install another rom, so i did via CWM Recovery.
All fine.
I wanted to restart my phone but it got stock in Sony Logo.
Because my bootloader cant be unlocked i rooted with kernel downgrade and CWM is not there after flashing due to the wipe.
So i flashed stock .tft with Flashtool and phone booted again.
Now when I'm trying to flash anything my phone gets always stuck in Sony Logo (even when i try Eagleboy's mode without wiping!).
Anyway: I'd like to install a custom rom.
Does anyone how to fix this?
Bootloader: Locked
Phone: LT18i
Rooted: yes
... and I have the 4.0.1.B.0.587 firmware installed right now.
Thanks in advance!
Phone Flashing problem
That's the only problem with locked bootloader's:crying:When you install some stock custom roms you have to wipe system to do a clean install which by default wipes cwm because it is installed in system for locked bootloader's.So if you have a problem with a install you have to flash another .ftf because you wiped cwm recovery.
When I first had arc I had a locked bootloader and it was a pain if something went wrong while flashinghaving to flash again etc! etc! It just got to stage where I had enough and took the plunge and unlocked the bootloader.:good:
I'm afraid it's one of those things you have to live with unless you unlock your bootloader:crying: ( I know you said you can't )there are quite a few stock roms that work but like I said if anything goes wrong you have to flash .ftf again.Probably a case of just trying each one Jader's rom alway's seemed to boot nice:good:

Hi, thanks for your answer
I tried to install 3 different roms till now - i wiped everything.
Then: Boot till sony-logo - I have to flash another tft with flashtool, Root again, and this takes time and is quite annoying.
I came from Samsung Galaxy S there wasn't the problem with the "bootloader" which is really annoying.
So: What should i do now?
I mean my CWM is not persistent and till now no rom worked.

Hi totally agree it is frustrating!:crying: When you install some of these custom rom's they use Aroma installer are you unticking the reboot option in aroma installer and rebooting from cwm?Because you need to reboot that way (you seem to be doing everything right )
(1) Boot to cwm
(2) Wipe cache/Data/Advanced Dalvik cache
(3) Mounts & Storage format data/cache/system (NOTHING ELSE!)
(4) Install .zip on Sd card
(5) Choose options Aroma Installer
(6) Untick reboot option
(7) Reboot from cwm

Haha i know. Thats why it seems strange for me too. But i need a custom rom and normally i would need a different kernel too.
But thats not possible. Sadly.
So nobody knows what i could change?

Only other thing you could try is changing your base firmware/ftf I notice you are using .587 base ftf try changing to another one, although Some of the custom roms recommend that firmware
Maybe someone else as any ideas
Απ: Flashing problem
If you accidentally formatted system then you removed the cwm. Try flashing the official ftf, install x-parts and redo everything without wiping system partition.
The other choice is to unlock your bootloader and you'll never face this problem again. I voided my warranty less a month after taking my phone, I knew that any problem will come up I could fix it myself

Yep sure - but my CWM is gone when i wipe data. And I tried this: I flashed stock .ftf and installed xparts, then flashed a ROM without wipe - but doesn't boot and I cant access CWM again :/
And as I said i can't unlock my bootloader.
.. But the strange thing is just:
I even get bootloop when I install EAGLEBOYYS MOD (!) without WIPING anything! (just the recommended for sure)
That should not happen.
Why can't you unlock bootloader? Doing that would solve most of the problems you are facing. You don't have to downgrade to re root. Flash the stock kernel, install a new recovery then try again.

If I go in service menu it says: Bootloader Unlock Allowed: No !
If I flash stock .ftf root is gone (?) -- RootChecker says that root is gone too.

First of all - this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683957
I advice you to take step by step STRICTLY.
Or you can try to root with the FlashTool but I'm not sure if it will work with locked BL.
After that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1955248

Thats how i rooted my Arc S!
Thats the only method that is working with locked BL.
And well, i took all the steps mentioned in the second topic you posted..
If you can't get it to work (stuck on Sony logo), then flash this in flash tool and then root again and do it one more time.
It´s ICS and kernel for Arc S but works fine on regular Arc. I use it myself on my Arc.

I mean when i flash this .ftf and reroot and install CWM all works fine.
But when I try to flash any ROM and doing all wipes etc. correctly it still gets stuck at SONY logo!
I have newest version of flashtool and ADB drivers installed. In flashtool there is no error.

Which ROM are you trying to flash?
Is that ROM for locked BL ?
Hey guys!
First sorry if this is wrong subforum, or there is an anserw for my problem. I spent about 5 hours on trying to do this.
Firstly I'm a noob in this subject.
I want to flash rom X - Gamer or True Smooth. ( are they any good?)
And I flashed generic .62 on my phone (Xperia Arc ) but I don't know what to do next.
I tried doing all those drivers, CWM, kernel things but I'm just lost now.
I can't learn all the things in one day..
Can someone give me links to best versions of things I need and say step by step how to do it? (or link to good toutorial)
Thank you so much for any help guys!
~ J
you need first flash kernel, then you must open cwm and set your zip file of rom from your sd card
So I need to paste it on SD card in zip? K.
When I'm trying to flash it in fastboot mode that appears "ERROR - This action can only be done in fastboot mode"
Do you have unlocked bootloader?
You have to place the ROM .zip file on the SDcard.
Depending on the bootloader status, you have to either install custom kernel for CWM Recovery or install one in system partition, latter being more riskier.

Yup I've gott my bootlader unlocked.
So what next after placing .zip file on SD?
"- Copy ROM setup file to SD card
- Enter CWM and choose the setup file
- Follow instruction in AROMA installer, customize the ROM as you like and click Install. NOTICE: in Extra section, unchecked item means you don't like it to install with this ROM, so it will be removed if it's already existed (in case you re-install the ROM)"
These are isntructions, so how do I intall CWM correctly?
Phone is rooted, I've got recoveyx on it and i installed CWM for GB. But I can't acces recovery mode. I spammed back button, volume down, hold it..
Please help..
If you have unlocked bootloader, get custom kernel for GB (LuPuS or DooMKernel), flash it in fastboot mode, get into the recovery, factory reset, wipe /system and then install zip from sdcard and choose the ROM zip.
Having unlocked bootloader and then rooting phone, installing CWM via an app is useless, time-wasting and caused many issues.
Okay I'm lost again.. I flashed Lupus and my phone didn't want to start. Blue led flashed but screen was still black..
now I've got android version 2.3.4 (4.0.2.A.0.62) generic.
Bootloader is unlocked (100% sure)
Which kernel should I choose to make this work?
Sorry I'm so nooby in this subject

Well if you have access to your recovery you should be able to mount your SD card there and then connect it to your PC. From there you can transfer a zip file to your phone and flash it.
I don't see anything mentioned about which custom recovery he flashed.
Could this be a stock recovery that he is in? (that may not allow mounting etc.)

I think a little more studying should have been done before flashing things. Now that we know you can get into CWM Recovery, you can flash a custom ROM. Note that doing so will involve wiping your data/cache/system - so whatever apps you were using on your phone will be gone (along with the data for each app, like your preferences etc.)
And since your bootloader is unlocked, you can flash pretty much any ROM you like because the unlocked bootloader allows custom kernels to be flashed.
As an example, you can flash SlimKat. It is a custom ROM with a custom kernel. The page is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2700456. You can find the download links in post #3. There will be a ZIP file for the ROM, and then optionally, another ZIP for the Google Apps (aka GAPPS), which would allow you to sign in to your Google account, use Play Store, etc. SlimKat offers 3 gapps (which I will link here because the GAPPS link on that thread seems to take me to a login page): They have mini, normal, and full. Take your pick..
http://www.slimroms.net/index.php/downloads/dlsearch/viewcategory/1150-addons4-4
Once you've downloaded them, copy the Slimkat ZIP to your external SD card. Also copy the GAPPS zip that you chose (if you wanted that).
Put the external card back into the phone and power it up, and get back into recovery like you did earlier. In recovery, before flashing the zips, you should do your wipes (this is where it wipes your apps/data/system). But as a precaution, maybe go into "install zip from sdcard", navigate through your external card to make sure the ZIP files are available to you.
I think that most ROM install zips take care of these wipes for you, but it's a good habit to get into when flashing custom ROMs.
You're going to:
1) Wipe data/factory reset (this will wipe the data and cache)
2) Go into Advanced and wipe Dalvik cache
3) Go into Mounts and Storage and format /system
Once that's done, you're going to go to "install zip from sdcard", choose your external card, and choose the SlimKat ZIP. That will flash the ROM and kernel. Once that's done, you're going to do one more flash - which is the GAPPS zip (if you decided that you wanted it).
Once that flash is done, you should be able to just reboot and the phone will start to boot into the new ROM. Note that on first boot, it will take some time - so you may be staring at the boot animation for a few minutes.

When you say you want to root, it means that you want to root the current system that you are on. But from what you have described in this thread, you are currently having a problem with your phone, where it does not boot normally into the system/ROM. You boot straight into Clockworkmod Recovery, every time. Correct? If this is correct, then rooting your current ROM probably won't help your situation (because you are not able to boot normally into the system).
Slimkat is a ROM that has root access included. I believe that pretty much any custom rom has root included. I'm not sure what you mean when you say that slimkat does not support your Z1 compact. You should be able to flash Slimkat to your Z1 Compact. The link from my previous post points to the Slimkat thread, which is in the Z1 Compact Original Android Development forum, so it is made for Z1 Compact.
That said, you don't need to choose Slimkat - I provided that just as an example of a custom rom that has a custom kernel included. Look through the Xperia Z1 Compact Original Android Development forum for custom roms that use custom kernels. Most of those roms have the custom kernel included in their ZIP. Whichever custom rom you choose, make sure to READ the original post (and other posts if necessary) to get the information you need on how to install it, or to find out what files you will need for that ROM (as some roms have add-ons and stuff you may find interesting).
There are also ROMs that are stock-based. Those can be found in the Xperia Z1 Compact Android Development forum. These roms also have root included, and are built to run on the standard stock Sony kernel. Some of them may be based on a specific stock Sony kernel version, so pay attention to that.
If you want to start over, and flash a pure stock Sony ROM to your phone (also known as an FTF), you can do that at any time by downloading an appropriate FTF for your phone, and flashing it by loading the FTF with FlashTool. It will then ask you to put your phone into FlashMode (which is done by making sure the phone is OFF, then holding the VolDown button, and connecting the USB cable while still holding the VolDown button. Once the flash begins, you can let go of the VolDown button) But !! Please note that if you haven't used FlashTool before, you will need to install some drivers. They are included with FlashTool, in a folder called Drivers. You would choose the driver specific to your phone, plus the FlashMode driver, plus the Fastboot driver. If you are using Windows8, you will have to do some extra work to get those drivers to install correctly. It involves booting Win8 into a mode where Driver Signature Enforcement is disabled, then installing the drivers found in the drivers folder of FlashTool. You can easily find out how to do that by searching online.
Hope this helps... don't make any risky flashing moves if you aren't certain about them - just keep reading and searching and you will eventually find the answers you need.

You could try to flash Kitslim (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2743177)
It is a slightly optimized rom based on the original Sony stock rom.
I use it and ist awesome. You have the stock feeling with this.

Hi guys
I'm very new to flashing phones, so please baby steps
I'm trying to flash the Cyanogenmod 12.1 to an elderly Xperia M.
I've tried asking for assistance on CM's page, but so far no luck, I hope somebody here is more helpfull.
I've downloaded the zip file, unzipped it and uploaded boot.img to it, but when it reboots, it just shows the Sony logo, and a blue led, but nothing else.
If I shut it down by removing the battery, start it up and press the volume rocker it boots up in Cyanogemnod recovery, but not cwm recovery.
Can somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm trying to follow the CM article regarding this specific CM build.

After flashing the boot.img with your Flashtool (I guess?), did you flash the ROM? I mean the CM12.1 ROM zip?

Hi Andy
Thankyou for your assistance.
I've tried following the wiki guide, so I've downloaded the CM12.1, unzipped it, and used 'fastboot' to copy it into the phone, and then reboot it (as it is explained in the wiki article wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_nicki
I don't have a Flashtool installed, should I use another method for updating?

Best to use Flashtool, it's much safer and the information and guidelines are already prepared in xda. So any doubts could be resolved rather quickly if any. Anyway goodluck and happy flashing!
Do you habe unlocked Bootloader?

Hi Andy
Ok, after finally getting it downloaded via the torrent, and actually getting the right file instead of a bunch of adware from the download links, I've tried starting it.
It says I'm not in USB debugging mode.
But to enable that I have to get into the phone, and it's currently not booting.
The flashboot refers to a 'back' button, but I don't have a physical back button on the C1905, what on earth do I do?
Ahaaa, part success, it needed charging. So after having it charged, and then connected to the phone, I've been able to flash a 'GLOBAL' firmware to the phone.
It now starts up as it should in the global firmware, and as soon as PC Companion saw it, it told me there is an update.
So that's great. Now I'm going to try with the Cyanogenmod again But I guess I have to find a '.ftf' version of it?

Ok, so right now, you are using stock FW and unlocked bootloader?
Step 1. Prepare files.
You will need the CM zip, Google Apps Zip, and a signed CWM Zip. Where do you find a signed CWM Zip? Look at Step 2.
Step 2.Sign the CWM zip from here, with the tool from here.
Step 3. Put the 3 Zip files on your SD card. Also, extract the boot.img and keep it somewhere easily accessible.
Step 4. I'll assume you have installed the nicki drivers for flashtool. Launch flashtool. The click the lightning bolt icon and select fastboot. With your xperia m sitched off, hold the VOL_UP key and connect USB cable. You should get a blue LED. Flash the boot.img as kernel.
Step 5. Select reboot into system. When a magenta LED shows, press a volume button. You should have booted to CM recovery. Browse to install ZIP, and flash the signed CWM zip.
Step 6. Power the phone off and repeat step 5. You should boot into CWM. Take a full backup of your phone first. Then wipe cache and data. Finally, flash CM zip and google apps zip.
Step 7. Wipe cache and reboot the phone.
Step 8. Sit back chillax, first boot will seem to take ages. Only after about 20 mins should you be concerned.
ENJOY CM12.1
Just to let you know, apps will take up more memory on Lollipop than other earlier versions. This is normal.
That worked perfectly, thankyou very much.
I now have a CM12.1 Xperia M, very nice

Hey, I am new to android. I tried your tutorial and millions of others to put CM 1.2 on my Sony Xperia M, but I had no luck at all. I am always getting errors like "Unable to mount /data" "e: format_volume failed to mount data/, formatting instead" "failed to mount dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/userdata". I don't know what I am doing wrong. The first tutorial I followed was the one at the official wiki from the Cyanogenmod, and I got those errors. I didn't have a backup, but I managed to flash a stock rom I downloaded on the internet. Can you help me? I've been awake for 20hours trying to solve this but I always get the same error

By the way. I can access the Recovery mod, and I have a 512mb external card to put the files, I already tried the sideload method and put the zip files into the card as you said. But no luck. And another point, I wasn't able to apply the step 5, so I flashed the CWM staight, and I had errors when I tried to install both CM 1.2 and Gapps. I would be more than thankful if you helped me.

Just to check, did you install stock at least once after BL unlock? It is required to fix the data partition. Flash the stock ftf and let it boot. Then proceed with the instructions I provided.
Please remember that YOU, and only YOU are responsible for your actions. These instructions are provided "as is , with all faults".

Not sure what I did but I managed to work, I guess it was checking the reset customization on Flashtool. Thank you for your help!
Does the 'Full backup' from 6 include absolutely everything I could possibly need to go back to the exact same state my phone is currently in? In other words, is it like a copy of everything that I could possibly change or mess up on my phone? I always thought nandroid backup did that, but now I just read that doesn't backup the kernel for example.
And I'm assuming this 'full backup' can be done using flashtool, right?
Thanks
Hello everyone.
I am newbie here.
I own t-mobiles lg g3 and updraded to marshmallow as the ota updates became available. But due to certain reasons, i wanted to install custom rom. The primary hurdle was rooting the device. Through trial and error method i have now successfully installed the fulmics 5.3.
I want to share my experience in this regard.
Device : d851 ( t-mobile lg g3)
Software veesion : 6.0 official marshmallow.
Root :-
Through mobile's browser, google for kingsroot. Download and install. ( donot reboot as this is temporary root, one the cell is rebooted the device will regain its previous status).
download twrp.image for d851 and save in sd card.
Now download flashify from play store and open the app. It will give three options. Select the first option ( browse image file or some thing like this) and select the twrp file you have recently downloaded. The flash will b completed in few seconds.
Congratulations, you have installed twrp.
Download a copy of custom rom ( fulmics 5.1 recommended) and save in sd card.
Now reboot the device in recovery mood ( either by turning off the cell, and then pressing simultaneously volume down+ power button, as the lg logo appears, release the power key and again press it. You will see two options, select the YES twice.
In recovery mode, first select wipe, advance wipe, system and then slide to wipe. Once done, go back and install the custom rom. After the successful installation, dont select the reboot option. Instead go back and again select wipe, factory reset.
congratulations, rom has been installed.
But you will observe sim card is not read by device. This is because cell was not properly rooted. To tackle this problem, download the modem file for D851 and flash it.
Enjoy the new custom rom.
Thanx.
Sorry for poor presentation and, offcourse, my weak english.
Man! Thanks for this! I have been looking everywhere for a way to do this and you are all the help I needed! Thank you!!!
If i may ask you, where can we get the modem and which one do you recommend? I have tried this and always i get the imei, baseband and number unknown

google for this
downloads.codefi.re/autoprime/LG/LG_G3/D851/stock_partitions/30D/LG-D85130D-Flashable.Modem.zip
Sure could have saved a lot of time if I had found this first.
I did install TWRP using a kingroot temporary root, got lost in a boot loop installing Fulmics 5.1 lost my data connection and imei information and finally downgraded back to stock Marshmallow feeling blessed to have restored my data connection. Had just finished transferring the flashable modem zip over to the SD card with an idea that I would try to move the mountain once more when I stumbled across your post which is priceless with the wealth of solutions to the problems I've had to overcome with the install. Flashify was the route to go. Lost TWRP on last flash and was just about to go through my torturous route of installing Fulmics 5.1 from scratch (root/adb/twrp/rom/bootable modem/etc.. Instead in the time it took to sign up so I could thank you for the easiest directions to this LG G3 D851 nightmare, I'm up an running on Fulmics 5.1 with full data connection. Your method eliminated a lot of the problems introduced by going the other route. Also you highlighted the main things. The factory reset is crucial and with the tricky temp root of Kingroot, it's easy to get stuck. Same with SuperSU flash/WRP and the modem flash. This should be a sticky on most sites related to LG G3 because it is the simplest way to go.
Jesus christ! Is this the only way to root my t-mobile D851? Seems like this is a dangerous way to live! Lol. But Really...
thank you, i will try it could you please give me fulmatic 5.3 room link for (d851)
Thanks for sharing
I am a newbie and do not have much experience with rooting or installing flash. But I followed your instruction and installed the fulmics.. I am struggling to flash the modem file. Can you please provide step by step instruction to do that pls. I am using flashify app
But you will observe sim card is not read by device. This is because cell was not properly rooted. To tackle this problem, download the modem file for D851 and flash it.
I am no expert either, but I believe you need to flash it in TWRP. Boot in to TWRP recovery and flash the modem zip. TWRP recovery-> Install-> modem zip-> reboot when finished
KingoRoot just seems shady to me, I wouldn't touch it personally. Here's what I did (just yesterday), from Stock MM Unrooted:
Downgrade back to original factory stock image: http://www.androidexplained.com/downgrade-lg-g3/
Root (used PurpleDrake "manual" method as auto script didn't work): http://lgg3root.com/lg-g3-root/how-to-root-lg-g3/
Once rooted, install SuperSU & TWRP Manager from Play Store
From TWRP Manager install latest version of TWRP
Boot into TRWP and do a factory reset/clear cache; flash ROM (Blisspop for me, but same general steps should apply for any ROM) and Gapps from TWRP; factory reset/clear cache again for good measure
Edit: Data works with 20B modem.
How to prevent apps from being unistalled in stock rom? In other roms u can lock the package installer .
In stock simply u just hold and drag the app to unistall button . installation of an app can be locked but unistallation cant be locked . is there anyone to solve the issue . sorry for bad english
i flashed another kernel and it is not that good... is it possible to find the kernel and just flash it ? without reflashing the rom?
KingRoot is not working for me, says Root Failed, somebody know why? What can i do?

You should be able to get the stock kernel back by "dirty flashing":
-boot into recovery (twrp)
-flash ROM *without* wiping anything.
Not to lecture, but this can all be prevented by following this simply advice:
-ALWAYS take a backup before flashing anything/customizing this or that.
-ALWAYS double and triple check that the ROM/Kernel/Whatever you're flashing is for your SPECIFIC MODEL and CARRIER.
Happy modding
