Something seems to be wrong with my charging port, lately its been charging at a slower rate and at times when I use my phone while charging, the percentage actually drops. I am using the standard OEM charger and also once in awhile it wouldn't charge and I would either have to fiddle with the plug or restart my phone. Anyone know what the issue is?

Some basic stuff, just to eliminate the usual suspects before going any further:
1. Have you tried another USB cable?
2. Have you tried another charger?
3. Have you tried another USB cable AND another charger?
Of course, it may indeed be a problem with the port on the phone. But in my experience, USB cable is the most typical reason for weird things going on with charging, as well as data transfer...

Yes, I've probably tried over 5 different usb cables and chargers from friends and around my house, still the same problem. I'm thinking it may be the port.
So far, in the past months or so, my phone started acting up with the charging, then my battery died and could not power up my phone unless charged, replace the battery, charging issue was still there and now recently charging slower plus my microphone is dead. I wonder if how hard would it be to replace to port. Trying to prolong this phone until Z4 is out.

Hey guys, I've done some searching and I'm still not entirely sure. The problem is that my phone can connect to my computer and is able to transfer files just fine but it will either never charge or charge extremely slowly (1%/2hours). Same thing happens with the wall charger and various other cables/adapters. I've already went back to stock and did a full wipe. The Galaxy Charging Current app does not work for me at all (only displays current_avg: 0). I'm planning to get my micro usb port replaced but I was wondering what are your thoughts on this.

I had the same issue with my S3. I happened to have a playbook charger around that chargerd it perfectly. It required a higher amperage than what the stock charger was providing. No amount of wiping, or flashing anything was fixing it. it was a hardware issue and i'm gonna guess that yours is too. Try another charger before going the replace micro route. An old moto charger that I had also worked. anything at about 2 amp did. The micro port is soldered to the board and the idea of having someone cut it off and re attaching it properly scared me.
Hi everyone!
When I connect my phone to the charger, it doesn't always start to charge the battery. Only about every 10th time it succeeds.
I tried 3 differnd usb cables, all original sony. It's the same with all of them.
I tried to move the cable in the phone, but it's stable. Also if it charges, I can't stopnit by moving the cable.
For me it looks like a software error, as if the phone doesn't allow to charge.
Does anyone have the same problems?
Any idea how to solve this (in best case without wiping the phone)?
Thank you in advance!
This is a recent problem or have you always had it? You think it's software so does it do it with different roms, or have you tried? I read somewhere the usb port on the phone becomes faulty easily, this seems more your cause, if your certain it's not the cable.
Not Charging as Well
My ZL is not charging as well i plug the AC charger and it gets bootloop.
It stop bootlooping after 1 hour and show the charging icon, but it does not charge.
Do you guys think it is the baterry or some issue with the power management.
I tryed to Charge the baterry with and old Universal Battery charger it hold a little power.
The Cell works when i turn it on with the wall charger but show only 1% of battery
Please guys help me with that.

I don't think it's a hardware problem. I used 3 different cables, all original sony. Sometimes they work, sometimes not. I'm using USB otg a lot (got my videos and some mp3 on a stick), never had problems with usb connection.
I didn't have those problems for a long time, but I don't remember any special apps I installed in the last few weeks.
Didn't try any custom roms yet, I'm very satisfied with my current setup (except for the charging problem ). I'm using latest stock with google crap and bloatware uninstalled.
Hopefully the lollipop update is coming soon. If it's not too buggy I will give it a try.
Last weekend my phone was working perfect then the battery reached 1% i put it to charge and i saw that it was charging but it said 6 hours to charge, which i found strange, i tried multiple chargers, etc. and none of them worked, so i thought that maybe the usb port got damaged because the same thing happened to my old note 4 and i fixed it replacing the usb port but i changed the usb port and it didn't work, so i thought that maybe the replacement was broken too, and i order 2 more from different places, and they didn't work. So I think that maybe is a software issue, I have the OF8 room rooted with AOU Kernel and TWRP and using the engineering sboot but there is no way for me to flash to stock because the phone is not being recognized by the computer as a usb device, so when i connect it to the computer is only working for cable charging. What do you guys think? Maybe i got all the replacement port broken, or maybe the sboot is affecting the port, or worst case scenario, the mainboard is faulty (which i don't think so, because the wifi, bluetooth, gps, screen rotation, everything else works)
Computer USB ports generally cannot fast charge unless it's USB 3.0. The phone doesn't need to be recognized by the OS. Fast charging is different from quick charge, where you will need to buy a compatible charger.
Thank you for replying back. But the issue is not the fast charging with the USB computer, is with any kind of fast charge/quick charge wall adapter. I think that i found the issue, and it was an external battery pack that it was damaging usb ports, because i got a brand new LG G4 and after i connected it to the battery it started to behave in the same way, so looks like the usb port gets broken every time i connect a device to that external battery.
Hi everyone,
Something really strange happened to me last week (or at least I started noticing it last week)
First, when my HTC10 was turned on, it didn't recognize the charger at all, I tried different chargers and cables and the result was the same. If I turned off the phone it worked perfectly. I wiped the cache and tried again with the same result. I booted in safe mode and got the same result.
I hard reset my phone and loaded all my apps again and now the USB C just works when I plug it in a certain way when turned on(one of the two possible ways, impossible for me to know which of them). When turned off it works perfectly.
Does anyone has experienced this? I think maybe it's related with one app, since when turned off it works with no problem.
UPDATE:
I just hard reset my phone again and loaded NO apps but still the same behavior: when turned off USB C can charge the phone no matter which way I plug it, but when turned on it doesn't.

Power phone up with it plugged in. Does it charge then? I get that problem often. I've narrowed my problem down to when I start my car with phone connected on charge (using car charger). Won't charge after that till I restart phone. I'm assuming it gets over or under voltage and safety circuit kicks in until restart. In your case it might be a charger or cable problem (or combination of both).

I think the problem was the cable I was using, after a while it started doing some crazy stuff like saying that I was not using a powerful enough charger. After I changed it everything is working like a charm
I'm experiencing similar problems, but this happened to me after my phone totally discharged, i repost my experience:
Hi guys! i'm occuring in a big problem, i was wondering if anyone of you had this experience with this or others phones, two days ago my htc 10 was totally without battery and died, so i put it on charge, but nothing happens, no led on, if i try to power on, no signs of life, unable to make it boot, even after hours of charge, i noticed that the phone anche the charger were cold, instead of hot like it should.... but after hours, even without led indicator on, i trying to recover it, with surprise, it was hot, i tryed to power on, no signs, i tryed combination of power button and volume buttons and it booted into dowload mode, and after a millisecond it re-died, and booted normally with 65% battery. BTW from that point the phone is unable to charge if i plug the cable into it, nothing happens, but if i put the cable, when is off, it charges even after boot, i tryed to recalibrate battery but nothing happens....
today, one day later, it seems the things are getting better, i'am able to charge it without having to put the phone off, but i always got the message that the charge is slow.
Clean the connector on the phone, make sure it's nice and shiny.
Give the cables a buff up, reboot your phone.
Allow it to boot, connect the official HTC charger in the wall.
Connect the official htc USB c cable into the charger and unlock your phone.
Connect the cable to your phone.
If that doesn't work, try a different wall socket.
Are you on stock? Have you altered any voltages? Any quick charge mods?

If you can reverse the modifications you've done to it I'd be tempted to say take it back to htc and get it sorted. Shouldn't be like that. Personally that's what I'd do.
As of today, when I plug in the charger it will show the Dash charging symbol, then cut in and out a few times before it stays charging. I updated to 5.0.3 yesterday if it means anything.
Is this normal? I couldn't find anyone else reporting this.
It happens to me too, even back in Nougat. It starts as regular charging and then a couple of seconds later, switches to Dash. I figure the delay is due to the charger and phone figuring out how much battery the phone has left to determine how much amps to push through. Dash charging operates at different amperages depending on the voltage of the battery. Thing is, that either that never seemed to happen on my OnePlus 5 or I never noticed it, but on the 5t it does.
I think I'd be more comfortable with your issue. When I see the charging LED flashing and the charging notification disappearing and reappearing, it's unsettling.
My Nexus 5X would do this as pocket lint would build up in the USB port, preventing the USB cable from fully seating. Every so often I would have to take a small needle (something non conductive would probably be better) and carefully clean around the edges to pull out the lint. I was always amazed at how much build up really does end up in the USB port and headphone jack.
I used to have that issue with old micro USB ports and this definitely reminds me of that. I'm concerned though because I've had the phone less than a week and the port is clean. I also get that satisfying 'click' when plugging in the charger.
Ah, well that probably isn't your problem then. I would try another charger and cable to try and isolate the problem between the phone, cable, and charger.
Remember the OnePlus cable is unique, you can't use just any USB C cable with the dash charger. I believe IIRC the OEM cable has a 10k resistor, while most in spec USB C cables will have a 56K resistor. However you can use another charger and cable and see if it cuts out as well.

We have three 5t phones here all purchased last week. I tried all three charges that came with the phone and it does this with each one, all plugged into different outlets.
We updated a 2nd one to 5.0.3 and now this one also has the charging notifications flicker on and off about 7 times before it stays charging normally. I haven't tested the 3rd yet because it was fully charged when I came home.
It's odd that it is two of our devices now doing this and I haven't seen anyone else with this problem. I would assume that we got phones out of a defective batch, but they were definitely not doing this before the update.
Just an update, I wiped system and cache and it still does this.
It didn't do it when I plugged in at 88% immediately after wiping. But it does do it when I plug in at around 30% like I usually do.
I'm wondering now if they all do this after the 5.0.3 update and no one really notices.
