I stupidly rooted my phone before taking the OTA update, and now of course I can't get the OTA because my device is modified. I just want to restore my system completely back to stock, but a factory reset doesn't modify the system so root is still there, and there aren't yet any stock firmware files anywhere for the Sprint S6, unfortunately. I've tried using Kies and Smart Switch to manually download the update, but of course our model isn't supported through that software. Is there any way to just return to a stock system? Or, did anyone happen to capture the OTA file before applying it?

Yeah but that requires a stock firmware file to flash in ODIN... there aren't any available for our phone, the G920P, anywhere. I've looked everywhere and it just doesn't exist.
I'm sorry u will have to wait for the firmware to be released.

You could use the restore file in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2760895

Have you tried root by Chainfire ?

Just flash it via Odin as PDA and it should work fine
I'm very much tempted to root as kitkat is nowhere in sight. But just in case kitkat update do come, can I still update OTA?
Factory reset and clearing data is definitely not an option for me.

Once rooted Device status would change from Official to Custom . There is hack to change it back and trick the phone to download OTA but I'm not sure if it would install .
Instead of worrying about all this , I would rather manually flash the firmware via Odin once kitkat is available

You can flash without loosing any data and due to KNOX you'll not be able to downgrade the firmware
Does the unroot function in the Super SU paid version work?
Unrooting from the 4.4 kit kat stock rom. Im running stock recovery also.
Has nobody used the Full Unroot feature of SuperSU with kitkat and the note 4?

Made an account just to reply to this. I was in the same boat, and tried that. Phone rebooted but couldn't take OTA. When it restarted after failed OTA install, went into bootloop. Had to reflash stock through ODIN and problem solved. Sorry man.
So Im running stock recovery and stock rooted 4.4. So that means I either wait for lollipop on Kies or Odin back to stock then take the OTA.

Not sure about this but Odin to stock and taking update will keep all your data if that is what you are worried about. Only issue is you might not be as smooth keeping your settings. I had some fc's and lag. So I reset to factory and restored apps and there was a huge speed and smoothness increase.
Im planning on reseting, trying to maintain setup on a major update always causes lag.

I don't want to upgrade to lollipop and I've frozen the updater app, but I still get these terrible popups that ask me to update. I've rooted, s-offed, installed twrp, and completely modded the system, so there's no way the update would work anyway. If anyone has a way to get rid of these popups, please help.

Yes. Flash a custom ROM. There are several that are very near stock (I recommend MaximusHD). Being on the stock ROM is what is prompting you to update via OTA.

Pardon?
I would love to try a custom rom but the htc One M8 I'm asking about is my dad's and he was reluctant to even let me do what I've done so far. I need a stock solution. Would doing the update and letting it fail keep the pop-up out of my hair for a while? Is there an activity I can freeze in some system app from Rom Toolbox or something?

No. It won't.
Tell your Dad not to worry.
Since you are still running the stock ROM, go to settings > about > more, and post what it says next to build number.
The build number for me wasn't exactly where you said but that's ok. On a side note it really sucks that you can't copy things like build number right from the settings.
Build Number: 3.28.605.4 CL390638 release-keys

Sorry fat thumb.
I've frozen all the apps mentioned but after a reboot the problem persists. If I flashed a stock rom would it go away?
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using XDA Free mobile app
Try use a root explorer to rename those two apks to .bak then reboot.
CheckinProvider.apk --> CheckinProvider.bak
updater.apk --> updater.bak
That's how I do it.
Sorry I wasn't specific, but what I meant by freeze was that I renamed them to .app. This didn't fix anything though.

Then the software updates tab is gone, right ?
Also try change this in build.prop
ro.config.htc.enableCOTA=1
to
ro.config.htc.enableCOTA=0
Other than this, no more idea.
I'm very confused. What update tab exactly are you referring to, and I don't even have that line in my build.prop according to Rom Toolbox.
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using XDA Free mobile app
I mean when you go to settings - about - you don't see software updates on top after you froze those apks.
I'm outside and replying you on mobile. Can't attach a screenshot.
Can you attach here your build.prop then I'll check it later when I'm home
(in next two hours)
I don't see anything about an update in About but I don't remember seeing one earlier either. Either way an update button is not what is annoying. The pop-up is my only concern. My dad won't update android manually and it would fail anyway but a phone that bullies it's user ever few minutes to update is unbearable. Is there an easy way to upload a file here from my phone without linking to a Google Drive file?
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using XDA Free mobile app
You don't see that because you already froze the apks.
I never attach anything from phone, only from PC. Just zip the build.prop and attach here, no need dropbox or gdrive.

It depends on what you change after rooting but generally the answer is no OTA updates will not work. That does not mean you can no longer update. I followed a guide in the general forum to root without tripping Knox. Within a day or two an OTA update came out but I was able to upgrade using Flashfire and the full Samsung's firmware file which contained all that the OTA contained. I did this while retaining user data, keeping root (SuperSU) and not tripping Knox. It was rather easy actually, with the most time consuming part being the firmware download. Any changes I made to the /system partition had to be reapplied but that was limited so was not a hassle.

Correct, at least on my device (SM-T800, rooted, stock 5.0.2, Knox still untripped) the Samsung update in settings detects that I've modified something in /system and refuses to use an OTA. I could not tell if it would even download an OTA file. I used the alternate method I previously described to get all that the OTA contained.
