T-Mobile OTA System Update v5.0.1 - 4/14/2015 - T-Mobile LG G3

I Just received the ota system update for my T-Mobile LG G3, but I am worried about what will happen if I update. Last time I updated my phone with a system update, it bricked my phone completely. Let me know if there's anything that can go wrong. Thanks!
I am running "SR REMiX G3 4.4.2" which is stock based 10r ROM. With the "Furnance Kernel".

I'm not completely sure but I'm pretty sure updating will brick your phone. Just wait until someone here puts out something to flash

As long as you do not have a custom bootloader installed you can update then re-root with http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-lg-firmwares-kitkat-lollipop-t3056951 It works fine. I used it without any problems.

How do i go back to original stock? Can i restore with the backup i did of the original stock thru TWRP and then update?
Sent from my LG-D851 using XDA Free mobile app

I forgot I had TWRP and got stuck in a bootloop of TWRP. I flashed the stock recovery and it booted normally again. Still on 4.4.2 now I no longer see the Lollipop update again. Probably going to have to wait until I get the push from T-Mo again?
I went to check for updates and nothing came through there.

Which stock recovery did you use? And did you only revert to stock recovery ? or did you also revert to stock ROM?

I had my stock rom and used this recovery:
http://downloads.codefi.re/d/YbSPSu...LG_G3/flash2/LG_G3_Flash2FixStuckRecovery.zip

Have run into trouble. Was on KDZ 20b andwent back to KDZ 10r, got system update message, downloaded and installed but ran into System UIDs inconsistent message, totally unstable. Do not know what to do now but if nothing works, will try to go back to KDZ 20b because at least my phone was working. Any help appreciated and thnaks much.

I recieved an upgrade notification, I clicked on it but now my phone is stuck in TWRP menu help me please,

You cannot take OTAs with a custom recovery. Can you use the menu and do you have a backup? You will have to somehow revert to stock or try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/general/t-mobile-usa-lp-ota-t3020967/page83. (mjfrank posted "This has been floating around
(@inshadesofgrey gets the credit,") I always recommend downloading and keeping the stock rom on your sd and a clean backup-- after rooting and installing a custom bootloader for the first time-- and saving to pc. Keep us updated

If you have custom recovery and root the ota update obviously wont work. I had asked the developer of root for our devices for the otas and this is what he had said:
dalingrin said:
My suggestion, if you want to keep root don't take an OTA.
If you really want to stay with stock LG then you'll want to flash updates via custom recovery. The community will take the updates from LG and make them flashable with TWRP or CWM.

Yeah there is a script that runs when you do a OTA. My buddy had to completely restore to stock using download mode to fix his. You may get lucky with doing a factory wipe but sounds like flashing a new rom didn't even help... Look through the forums and find the thread that guides you through doing a regular restore (this will restore you to the original software. You will be unrooted and your recovery will go back to stock. This means you can do the OTA if you so desire. Just keep in mind it may block Loki and root)

Thanks for the reply mate,
Yeah i will do like that , but surely there is a way somewhere to remove the boot loop , from TWRP you can remove edit files.
So if someone with more knowledge tell us where the OTA files give the command to boot to recovery we can remove it.
Cheers

Post your problem in twrp's thread. Drgravy replies often and he knows more than anyone what to do in a situation like yours.
Thanks all for your help ....
I unbricked the device with FlashTool.1.0.54 , i flashed the original firmware , the strange thing this did not wipe my data, only removed Custom recovery and root.
Cheers

To be honest I didn't mention any chances , sure they (lg) updated their apps but I haven't notice any system chances , but then again I can't take it from my kids and wife hands!!!!
Just tried the update to a stock (but rooted) Gpad
At 3% installing, error 0x13E
After booting, a samsung-like:laugh: message:
"This device is suspected in rooting. Software update is not available for rooted device"
Fortunately this tablet is not mine... This tablet needs a "google edition" update ASAP
Maybe somebody could cook this update into a package that can be flashed by people who are on stock, but rooted?
I am on stock, rooted, but the update went fine.

[Q] Upgrading to ZVC From ZVA Rooted

Hello,
I have a G2 Running Stock LS980ZVA Kernel Version 3.4.0. Now I rooted the stock ROM and now got a notification to update the ROM to ZVC.
Now my dilemma is do I "Restart and Install" this update or not. Will this brick my phone?
I have TWRP running as the custom recovery. What should I be doing? I tried to search for a similar thread but couldn't find one.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you!
You will brick. Either hold your finger on the notification and then click app data. Click on the show notification. No check mark. Notification will go away.
Regular reboot will not install the update.
If you unroot and put regular recovery back. Then you could.

okay, i did some research and found that it is safe to install OTAs but if youre rooted youll lose the root and unlock will still stay.
best imo, is you upgrade to 4.4.2 and root again with custom recovery and install a nice ROM.

Could not install the system update 1.54.15409

Every time I click update on my developer mode M8, it restarts automatically in the TWRP recovery mode. I have no choice but to reboot in recovery mode and the phone loads again asking me to update. Has anyone experience this? I am still on the stock ROM withe XPosed installer if that matters. Any suggestions will be appreciated, thank you!

Phone has to be 100% stock, inc. the stock recovery and kernel, to flash an OTA file as it checks to make sure the phone is stock. ANY change to the original system and it'll fail

Re-flash stock recovery. GET RID OF TWRP

Hello, everybuddy, i recently installed twrp via flashify on my g3. Now that i see android L is being released, i would like to get the OTA for that so i have to get back to stock recovery. Can i just flash it via flashify? and if i can what do i flash? and will it be the same as it was before so i can get OTA? im also rooted, will i get eh OTA if i have root? i know it will kill it but i dont care about that, i just want to make sure ill get the OTA
Your best bet will probably be to follow this guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/general/firmware-t-mobile-lg-g3-t2818667
This will take you back to stock. Getting rid of TWRP is not enough to get OTA to successfully install. You also need to unroot and restore any apps that you may have frozen or removed such as CarrierIQ. Additionally remove xposed if running. Again, instead of going through that trouble, it would be easier to get restore to stock since it's a quick flash.
Note: I would not necessarily be in a hurry to take the OTA. It's possible that it may not be easy to obtain root. Thus I would suggest waiting till one of the devs has had the opportunity to review and confirm that root can still be obtained.

Hi, I am looking for flashing stock recovery on my LG G3 Sprint LS990. I believe the same method will work. I am currently running on stock ZVB ROM rooted and TWRP installed as recovery. In the download folder for LS990-ZVB http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprime/LG/LG_G3/LS990/stock_partitions/ZVB, there is no recovery image file, but in ZVA folder there is. I am just wondering if I can flash ZVA folder's recovery image using Flashify to my ZVB ROM LS990 and if that will work.
My LS990 is rooted and currently have TWRP. i get secure boot error when the phone reboots after accepting Android updates installation that come automatically. I believe installing stock recovery will resolve this issue and allow to install Android updates I do not want to going back to stock completely, that will unroot my phone and again I have do all these staffs.
Anyone can help to advise, will be appreciated. Thanks.

Verizon LG G Pad 8.3 system update

I rooted this tablet last week (just rooted, I left it stock) and this morning I notice there is a system update waiting to be installed. I am reading Lollipop is starting to roll out in Asia somewhere now but I am in the US lol. I thought it wasn't possible to get OTA updates once you root? If I allow this to update will I get unrooted, would it even work?
I foolishly allowed it to update after checking in Supersu to not allow the root to be lost and now I keep booting directly into TWRP lol. How do I wipe this tablet from TWRP so that it is fully stock again (NO ROOT)? I see a factory reset option in TWRP do I need to include all the partitions in the advanced wipe or is just the normal wipe method enough? Or will this not work at all? I already tried to restore the phone using TWRP to my backup and that didn't seem to work.

Simply rooting a device doesn't keep it from TRYing to update via OTA. Rooting can prevent an OTA from succeeding, plus can hard or soft brick if you try to take an OTA, although usually only if you've gone beyond just rooting by installing a custom recovery or changing the contents of any partition besides Data by, fire example, downgrading your bootloader (aboot.img) or modem, running a custom kernel, debloating system apps, etc.
There are at least three variants of the G Pad 8.3. I have the VK810.4G, which do you have?
I know on the VK810.4G, Verizon just released a very, very minor update from LG build #23A to 24A. Still KitKat.

There's the main problem, you had a custom recovery installed. OTAs are applied with the stock recovery, that's why it (probably soft) bricked it.

You might not be able to fix it from TWRP. You could try @autoprime 's fix recovery zip available the same page his flash2 scripts are. You'll have to Google:

.
Otherwise, you'll have to restore to 100% stock unrooted and start from scratch. Two methods.
One is using LG's official Mobile Tool, which will download the latest official ROM in KDZ format (takes 20+ minutes to download) and flash it with your tablet in Download mode (probably with the tablet off, hold both up and down volume buttons in and while holding them, turn the tablet on.
I've got to go do something so hopefully someone else will help further or I can get back to you later, dont know when though.
Good luck!

Yes, you can do that, but I don't know the steps. Others here do.
Why do you want TWRP? I thought the usual reason was to install custom ROMs (in which case you won't receive any OTA updates). If you just want to root, it's an unnecessary complication (as you have discovered).

Thanks Dean, and yes I do agree with you about it being a complication. I was always under the assumption if I rooted a phone that I needed to also use some sort of recovery god forbid I had an issue with the phone not booting up or something so I could possibly fix the issue, make a backup/install a backup etc. Maybe I will ****can it if someone will tell me how to do so without losing my data or root.
