Hi all,
Thought I would bring this up again since it's been a while the older threads were updated and/or to see if anyone else has any ideas... Basically, I (stupidly) deleted all the pics off my ATT Samsung mini S4 SGH-I257 and would really like to get them back. No SD card, of course, so I need to access internal memory.
All the software programs/apps I've found require either USB mass storage (not just USB debugging?) to be enabled or a rooted phone. I'm no genius but I can follow instructions, unfortunately when I try to root using Odin, towelroot, kingo etc nothing works.
Is there any way from me to get these photos back??? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

1) you wiped the device, stuff is gone
2) there is no mass storage mode and there never will be.
3) again, your stuff is gone.

Hi, complete newbie here ... if anybody could help me with this, it'd be very appreciated.
I have a Samsung Note 2 from 3 Mobile UK, running JellyBean 4.1.2. The model number is GT-N7100, build JZO54K.N7100XXDMB2.
I wanted to root the phone, so I followed the method 1 (option 3 with custom recovery) on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2143479. The process went smoothly, and at the end, I got the message like "You have hacked the phone" or something like that from the Samsung Toolkit.
HOWEVER, after rebooting, there's no network on the phone. From Settings > About device > Status, the IMEI also shows Unknown. From File Manager on the phone, the whole /storage/sdcard0 (the phone internal storage) is empty. Completely empty, as in no files or folder inside. When connected to the PC, from Windows Explorer, the Phone free storage shows a negative number (see attached screenshot). I still can go online from wireless and all the apps and settings are there, it's just the internal storage is empty and the phone cannot see the sim card at all.
If anybody can help with what I should do next, I'm very grateful !!! Thanks !!!!
Edit: From further reading online, it seems like I should try to restore the stock firmware using either Odin or Samsung Kies ? I should also backed up the EFS folder, which I didn't do before rooting (since I thought it's a safe procedure), so am I screwed now ??!
Hi all. For what it's worth, the problem was fixed after flashing back to the stock ROM, following the steps described in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696 ..

hey dude, glad to see you sorted your problem
and nice to see you bothered to come back and complete your thread by explaining the fix that worked. Not many do. I'd thank you but my daily allowance has been exceeded.
Cheers
I just would like to know if I were to root my s4 mini if I can unroot it and how would I go about doing so?
I have the S4 Mini by Verizon VRUAMK5 update.
I've researched on it and found that I cant use odin because Verizons stock rom for the mini isn't available yet. I've read somewhere I can use Verizons restore and upgrade app but I have no idea what that is. Unless its the recovery booting menu (Vol+>homebutton>powerbutton) and I restore this way and it will remove the root. But I don't know.
Please help much appreciated.

When you first connect your phone to the computer, for a minute there is a verizon_mobile drive instead of your sdcard getting read first in mass storage mode. while that is connected "verizon_mobile" drive open it up and execute the vzw ... assistant.exe app by double clicking and follow the prompts. afterwards when it is all downloaded and installed it may say you are up to date.
Use kies in download mode instead to unroot and go back to stock. or simply choose to restore it to.

Thank you so much I did not know about this.
A friend of mine recently had her S3 screen just go out. Well actually she was probably a little rough with it and I'm thinking its the data cable in the back just needs to be reattached. Well she ended up getting a new LG so i got her old S3 for free, but no working screen. Anyway to pull the files on there or even maybe turn on mirroring to my S4 and be able to see whats there? no sim card, memory card (8 gb lol) and not rooted, but probably a little on internal memory. she didnt know what build she was on (4.1.2 4.3 or what jellybean even was) so i would need that info as well if i can run it through odin for root. I can use adb on my laptop just am not in any way familiar with Sammy. Do any Devs need cherry stock files for anything? Just kinda need to know where to start and what to do. Thanx y'all for the time.

what if usb debugging was never enabled on the phone? any issue with that? i'm trying the toolkit now btw thamks for that one
I'm not sure, I've never used the toolkit myself I only remembered that it had that option.
I accidentally deleted some pictures from internal memory today while trying to transfer them to my PC laptop. I read that the only way to recover them is to root your phone and then try some of the various photo/file recovery programs you can find on the internet such as PhotoRec. I was once pretty tech savvy but not anymore. I searched around the threads on this site for how-to but am not sure... Can anyone point to a thread for idiots like me to try?
Once I root my phone and hopefully recover the pictures, is there anyway to return the phone back into it's original state (or is that not worth it?).
Thanks in advance
