[Q] Plz Help Guys - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Guys,
I dropped my phone in the washer for less than a minute and its screwed right now ! I kinda got it working ! The screen turns on and i can get into the recovery. But it doesn't boot up to the ROM. I am on VIPER ROM. I have already tried resetting the device. I re-flashed the ROM as well without any errors. But the phone doesn't go past the loading screen .
I am extremely dissapointed and i cannot afford a new toy. I cannot send it to HTC, the watermark damage is already done. I have opened up the device, cleaned all the contact ribbons or flex cable as well. Still the same problem. Please advice guys ! Is the mother board broken ? it doesnt make sense cause the ROM installs fine. I did plug it into the computer in recovery and got all my data out. Yes i am SOFF as well. What are my options here guys .
Best Regards
Mathew

First of all stop using it and then turn it off for a week

Thanks for the reply, The whole washer thing happened a week ago, i opened it up a couple days ago. no more water in it
Matt

Backup everything via nandroid and flash a stock ROM.

I'd agree to return to stock (RUU if one is available for your version) and if the phone still doesn't boot, you probably have a hardware failure.

anyways, i wiped the whole system, has just the TWRP, i am trying to find a RUU and stock recovery. Hopefully that should fix it all
I will report soon

Hey guys,
I waited over a month, tried everything, RUU etc, etc... Still not working. If i Install a new ROM, it says everything is installed, but stays in the boot screen till the battery dies ! Any help ?

Did the RUU actually install completely, or any errors? What was the result when trying to restart after RUU install?
Some folks have had varying results with smartphones damaged by water, by taking them apart and cleaning contacts carefully with isopropyl alcohol or similar products. But its very possible the issue is cause by corrosion in a location you won't be able to access.

Hey !
Thanks for the reply, I never got any errors with installing the RUU ! or anything i install from the fastboot goes very well. No issues at all. But once i reboot to the software, it just stays in the bootscreen. My phone was the sense version, after trying multiple RUU i decided to go to dev edition, and it installed no problem ! i could see the google edition logo and everything
Now regarding corrosion, I had taken the device apart and cleaned it a month ago with iso alcohol ! The only thing i noticed was a slight corrosion on the flex cable contact, which i promptly cleaned. The flex cable was the top right hand side on the motherboard !
Thanks
Matt

If RUUs install but don't boot, I have to conclude its a hardware failure caused by the water damage.
Since you've dried it out and cleaned with alcohol, I don't think there is much else that can be done.

Hey !
I am afraid so, so much money spent on this phone! My first and best HTC phone i had to date ! I am on Note 4 now, not bad but i really miss swiping feature to open custom app while on sleep ! That was probably the best invention ever for customization. Its like i need this app right now, i just swipe the screen this way and i am in the app ! If i can get another HTC m8 for under 150 i am game lol
Thanks

HELP! My phone gets hot and restarts! Please look for more info inside!

Hello dear friends!
HTC let me down Kind of stupid phones indeed at least desire...
I have my phone for quite a time now, it is rooted with unrewoked, clockwork recovery and s-on. I flashed many different roms in the past and everything was brilliant. In a pas half-a-year or so I stayed with only one ROM - MIUI-Au. I kept updating it to the newer versions and so on and on. Never had any random reboot or something. At least maybe it was because of some strange app or something else. But now it started to reboot randomly and constantly!
Phone gets hot abit and it just reboots, and never comes to android homescreen again, until I put out the battery, hold it for few minutes, pop it back and then it boots. But as soon as start to play music, or run a game the phone gets hot abit and reboots again. and so on and on. I thought maybe it was a miui issue. So I tried to flash different roms, but guess what? None of the even boot! The main screen shows and with the same second it bootloops again and forever!... (
Even from recovery it sometimes reboots randomly. So i managed somehow to flash my miui back and it at least boots. But it is very unstable now, I barely can use my phone now
PLEASE WHO CAN HELP ME????
My warranty probably out of date, and my phone is rooted, I dont think HTC would accept it...
any thoughts? friends?
What have you set the CPU max to?
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
Thank you for response! Appreciate, really!! I didn't set it, I left everything by default I think! Because as i said, i even tried flashing different roms, not only miui.
What else could be? By the way, with stock froyo rom If I remember correctly, sometimes it became extremely hot, but I didnt get any reboots from that. But now, it gets just a little bit hot and it seems that this causes the reboot...
Now what I just noticed, I get reboots even when the phone is idle. And it is not even warm!
If its not getting hot then I'm confused lol. It sounds like a actual hardware fault. Sorry I can't help with this one

try and get it taken back to stock if you dare.
The phone hasn't been out 2 years yet, which is how long the warranty is.
Thank you! But is there any possibility to fix it without HTC involvement? Maybe it is not hardware issue ? Can it be because phone is rooted and I flashed many roms to it ? I didnt try AOSP roms since reboots started, I will try to pop in Cyanogenmod or other and see if I will get reboots.
Would rerooting my phone and updating my recovery fix the problem?
and Note: yesterday I tried to S-OFF my phone, but I can't even do that with my unstable MIUI. It rebooted in the middle of the process..
I had a similar problem, apparently it's not uncommon on the early revisions. I sent mine to HTC and they replaced the mainboard.
Thank you for answer! But what if my phone is bought through a contractor?
Can just call HTC and ask the for repair? Or should I contact my contractor first ?
Just give them a call and they will try to help you out. I had a very good customer service experience with them when my desire had some issues.
They will require a proof of purchase though. If you managed to get the receipt from your "contractor" (I am unsure what you mean by a contractor), then there should be no problem.
Sorry for misleading word, I meant T-Mobile. I bought my phone under contract. I think I have a receipt. I even have whole box and stuff of the phone somewhere in my drawer.(just sayin ). So how is customer service of HTC? Poor, good ? I heard you need to tell them that you did a factory reset and that didn't help. Is that true. Also if I will unroot my phone, will they know it was rooted anyhow?
Ahhh....this overheating issue seems common. How they can release faulty phones?? No clue.
thanks for answers mates!
In Singapore, HTC service is really good. Phone was still under warranty.
It took me just one (real) call to confirm a repair order. The first call I was just checking to see what options were available to me.
The second call was an actual repair request. And the third call was me pestering them for a pickup date. heehee
In Singapore, repairs were done via courier. They picked it up and 1 working day later, they sent it back.
Naturally, you will probably need to impress upon them that you tried everything to fix your phone (which I hope you did which includes proving to yourself that it's not the ROMs fault).
You will definitely need to reset everything back to zero. In my case, I downloaded an RUU to totally reset everything back to STOCK, which included removing clockworkmod recovery. You WILL need to create a goldcard for this though so bear in mind that it's not exactly a case of a simple flashing procedure. At least not if you don't already have a goldcard.
Sorry if I overread it at some point, but you speculated at the beginning there could be some faulty app causing this, but you never meantioned performing a full wipe. Have you full wiped yet? Just to make sure it is indeed no software problem.
greets
Thank you for your answers. At the moment I have SuperNova classic ROM. ( 2.3.3 + Sense 2.1) But my phone crashes again and again, it is so annoying and causes me so much trouble.
I never tried a reset or unroot and return to original rom. Im just wondering now, would this help to remove or at least remove those reboots?
Today I was in my work and i was keeping my phone in my jeans pocket. it got hot as u would expect when keeping in pocket and suddenly it rebooten, then it went into a bootloop and started to bootloop 7 times in a row quickly. then again and again. It became very hot at that time.
For the interest, what exact hardware faults causes these reboots and why phone gets even hotter if you keep it on boot loop. If I keep phone cold, the rom usualy stays normal, without reboots. but as soon as I start using my phone, texting or calling for at least 5minutes of using it just reboots.
as I said- really annoying thing :S
I remember my happy times with miui, apps and no reboots Was fun!
cheers for helping!
I would give full wipe / factory reset a chance, and maybe RUU.
At least try it before sending phone to htc.
It is hardware problem, search forum. Fresh ROM without SD card, enabled WIFI and GPS, running G navigation, back of the phone is warm - restart after few minutes.
Maybe someone know how to read info form the phone right before reset? We could understand why the phone is reseting and hopefully add some patch.
Reboot-loop experience
Hey,
i had the same problem over the last few months: In the beginning my phone restarted only when it got hot, but it got worse over the last few weeks, in the end i was not able to use two apps at the same time (music and mytracks) or even to surf the internet longer than a few minutes. The problem did noticeably decrease when the phone was cool - tested by putting it on a fan or in the fridge. Yet, Skype was regularly killing it. As i really love my phone (and especially the AMOLED-Screen!) i did not want to resign. The battery cover contains some metal which is supposed to enhance heat dissipation - so i attached a little thermal pad to the hotter bottom of the phone to improve contact with the head spreader. Unfortunately it did not entirely fix the problem. Yes, it improved the situation a little, but it got even worse after a week or two - in the end i had to turn it in.
So i decided to take it to the Telekom-Shop. They were very kind and told me they would call the other day to confirm that the replacement would have been shipped. It took a few days longer, but i got a phone with the AMOLED-Screen! The employee said it was a used mainboard in a new case, completely refurbished. They only replaced the main unit, i kept the battery, sd-card, charger and so on. Now i have a working Desire again!

[Q] fix for my DHD

Hi people
I have 3 problems with my desire hd for a long time now and i am thinking to take my phone for a repair.
1) satellite fix for gps. takes too much time to connect and sometimes can't connect at all.
2)proximity sensor. The screen won't lock at a phone call. I try the apk of leppie but it's not very helpful
3)jack 3.5. When i use my headphones sometimes the phones see that i am using a mic and there is a conflig.
If i send my phone for repair can these problems fixed? And do you know if it will be expensive?
P.S. The phone is rooted and i am using Blackout ics incredible 3.1.1
Thank you for your time

I think that first that you need to do - unroot your phone and flash original rom!
After that - check may be problems will be solved
If no - after unroot, full wipe and flashing original stock rom you can send yor phone for repair...

Hi Petrose,
Well, first of all trie, as said, original rom, or (better:fingers-crossed:Jellytime R28 by Randomblame (after a full wipe/ clean install).
About the GPS issue, many people have had problems with that, me too :crying: resulting in sadness and almost bought a new device.
Tried other Kernels, other radio, etc. etc. nothing!
But, luckily, found this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101066&nocache=1
I just opened my desireHD, cleaned the metal pins with soft cloth, bended them up a little...........really AMAZING GPS!!!!!:good::good::good:
Locked within 2 or 3 seconds, very strong signal, i'm really happy with it. No new device needed!
Hope this works for you too. For the other problems you can trie different roms, or go back to original rom (naaah, hope you don't need that).
Good luck! Be gentile when you open your phone.....use a few pieces of hard thin plastic, like in the video (i made my own using plastic from a blister package, cut in pieces)
Cheers, Mollenvanger.

[Q] Looping + Volume down not working

Hi
I have a serious problem. In short, my phone is starting normally until it reaches to the Lock Screen it hangs there for a sec then it will restart and keeps like this until it is out of battery. Also for me the volume down button doesnt work at all meaning I cant reach to Bootloader.
Details:
One day my HOX fall into my fish tank but I was able to take it out immediately and put it into bag of rice and it survived with two things not working: headset input and the Volume Down button.
Ok. I had no problems without them until last night. I have Android Revolution HD but dont know which version I dont remember. I wanted to go back to stock. And here what I did as much as I can remember:
- Flashed secure BOOT.IMG. I took it out from RUU 1.29.415.
- Flashed Recovery also took it from RUU.
- Relocked it.
Until now I had no problem I was able to use HTC Quick Root to restart to bootloader. Actually After relocking it was rebooting always to bootloader. I was never able to go to Recovery at all.
The real problems started when UNLOCKED it again.
Now what is going on is that it is looping as I mentioned at the beginning. I CANT go to bootloader because of the button problem. And Mainly the HTC Quick Root cant recognize it when I connect it to My Laptop although I'm sure the laptop does.
I tried RUU a time and it showed me version error.
Please advise. I am desperate I cant afford buying a new phone. What should I do?
Hope those fishies didnt fry !

No the tank was empty I was filling the tank only.
Update:
I have just uninstalled HTC drivers from my laptop and installed them again. When I connect my HOX - it is turned off- I got the following :
USB Composite Device --- Ready to use.
USB Mass storage --- Ready to use.
MyHTC -- Ready to use.
HTC Android Phone USB Device --- Ready to use.
But the problem remains as it is.

The more you use it, the less likely you'll be able to fix it. You need to disconnect the battery.
Impurities in the water will short the electronics and fry them.
The alcohol will help dissolve the impurities and clean the components, it will evaporate without leaving a nasty residue.
Good luck, but don't hold out too much hope.

Find a repair shop and see if they'll take on a water-damage repair. If they dont seem confident (like they've done it before - they might confidently express doubt!), try another.
WOW. I was able to go to Fastboot simply by pressing the Volume down hard, REALLY HARD.
So now I am confused and scared what to do.

What happens when you do a factory reset? Does it load into CWM?
you can access download mode so you can unbrick your phone
I think its not a hardware problem because you can see the lg logo
If you can access cwm menu , wipe user data and cash , then flash hono stock ics.
Then if the phone startup was successful check the hardware parts via hidden menu in stock roms.

Guys i took real good care of my phone it never fell down from my hand nor does it have a scratch on it. never over did the flashing part as well, my advice is stick with the stock ICS. My Nitro is game over i bough a new Samsung s3. just a word of advice dont over do your beta flashing. :crying:

You need to check the power IC, and make reballing
I was treated to the service (good repair workshop), they said that one of chips was soldered askew.
I think it one of this - Qualcomm PM8901, PM8058 and PM8?7? I do not know exactly.

Dear Friend,
i believe i am still right the BSOD now a days Laptop are common mostly HP, its Due to the VGA chip being BGA(ball grid array) they are chips with small balls with soldering underneath them used for comm between the chip and the Bord. but went to chip overheats it melts the solder underneath and when it cools back down the solder get solid it a different area(we moving the phone like taking out of pocket or so) which causes lack of communication between chip and board(when they are back solid) it causes BSOD. I believe the Graphic chip in NITRO HD is using the BGA tech(It makes sense) so if our phone overheats too much the chances of De-aligning the solder in the chip is high cousin BSOD. We all know CM10 at the early stages caused overheating while in black screen coursing huge power drain in battery(we have stigmatic data with the help of battery analyst app).
So summer Nitro HD = BGA , CM10= overheating, Overheating=Bad for BGA(Causes BSOD) so overheating Nitro HD causes BSOD there u have it. i case if the phone really overheats while its in your pocket of in a uneven place and the solder goes out of place then you are in trouble like me.
Solution= Re balling or heat gun(temporary) Can FIX it.
So it's pm8028 near mdm9200
I got the same problem last weekend. I woke up and found the screen on and no sound from alarm clock. I checked and the phone got no sound at all.
I restarted the phone and got the gray screen. Late at the day the phone boot again but after another reboot it got the gray screen and never recovered.
I use CM10.1 and wind kernel with no overclock.
Too bad I didn't find any shop that reball the chips so my phone is dead
I got a i9305 today to replace it.
cn you fix the re-ball?

Make sure the phone is fully charged before you try to boot it up, if it is fading out after the logo splash screen it either sounds like a dead battery or a badly flashed rom. You can enter into recovery by holding the volume down and pressing and holding the power button till you get prompted to wipe the phone.
I have had a couple of grey screens (or "black" screens) which I was able to recover from, simply by making sure the phone was powered off, then fully charging the battery for 4 hours, then booting into recovery and flashing a different ROM

Overheating solution ! Worked for me.

Well almost all HTC desire devices have an overheating problem causing them to reboot every time we use them.
Well I tried something that actually worked!
You need to have the required skills in order to do this
You need :
1:a clean soft brush(tooth brush recommended)
2:Tools to disassemble the HTC desire
3isassembly manual
4:Electric contact cleaner
Procedure :
1: Disassembly your HTC desire and just unplug only the mainboard and the upper board (that includes the camera)
2: CAREFULLY open the metallic box located to the main board (the one that is under the display and has the CPU inside)
3: use the electric contact cleaner and spray everything inside that box
4: CAREFULLY use the tooth brush to clean it from inside by making soft movements !!
5: wait for 5 minutes for the electric contact cleaner dissapears
6: Do the same in the camera mainboard but don't open anyone metallic box , just from the top
7: Start assembling the HTC desire
8: Test it and write down if it worked
Note : a friend of mine told me that you don't have to open the metallic box that protects the CPU,just use the electric cleaner and be sure that you have sprayed everything ! And this guide is tested on 4 HTC desires with the same problem all of them 100% success !
WARNING: USE THIS GUIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK ! I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY KIND OF DAMAGE!
I personally tested it as I said on 4 HTC desires and it worked !
Just test it and write it.I was looking for 1 year how to solve this problem and I believe I found the solution.

Hello,
This is the thread I was looking for since I got one HTC Desire with the message “repair it and take it, or throw it into trash”. Luckily for me, that was only few weeks ago, therefore I didn't suffered like other proud Desire owners.
I can power-on the phone but it will stuck on HTC logo or it will do reset loop (several times) finishing with 7 vibrations and HTC logo.
It was failing on RUU updates because of radio; then I decided to freeze phone (only device without battery, sd card and sim). After that, I was able to update the phone...freeze it again, s-off it...freeze it again...flash it with custom rom...freeze it....etc.
I was planning to apply some thermal compound inside and maybe cut some pieces for better airflow but Your solution seems great.
Is there any news about those 4 repaired phones? Are they still alive and performing well?
short update:
mine doesn't work after the procedure from first post.
however, it will still come alive (for the short time) after freezing. :/
Interesting post. is overheating a common problem on the desire?
My phone seems to crash every so often and sometimes gets really bad and doesnt wanna start up as mentioned above so am thinking whether its a overheating issue rather than software/hardware

When your phone doesn't want to boot, put it in the freezer for 5 minutes. If it then boots normally, it's an overheating issue.
approve - this works, btw if anyone have any another questions then ask
Worked for me.. Problem Solved. Thankyou

Are these screenshots likely to appear anytime soon? thanks:fingers-crossed:
any pictures yet?
box ????
"CAREFULLY open the metallic box located to the main board

I have disassembled the phone. There is a metal box on the back of the main board (directly behind the
sim card and sd cards slots) though it appears to be completely sealed. I do not see how it could be opened
and/or how the contact cleaner can get in to do anything.
I am missing something ? Anyone ?
thanks and best regards
neddy
I did this last night, and same result... the phone keep restarting... its 100% a overheat problem cause here are +2°C and when i operate the phone outside , is working without any problem, but when im in the house at +25 the phone start acting weird...(restarting)...

I totally disagree with your opinion to apply thermal compound and cut some pieces. Thermal compound works for pc and in case you apply this, think that the hot will still remain inside and maybe get worse. Also cutting pieces will result for your phone to fail, cause all this are made to protect all those that they include
other solution
For users that are EXPERIMENTAL ONLY! you can try this
Follow all the steps in post #1 but when you reach to the cpu chipset, use a heat gun for about 30 second with distance up to 10cm(maybe more).Do whatever is needed to be sure that heat will not touch the other chipsets. This solution have 40-60% Success- Failure. In case of failure, (I DONT HAVE RESPONSIBILITY!) the phone will be dead for ever. If you have free time and this phone for test then do it otherwise better not
Also i will try to find an HTC Desire to take screenshots ...

I can confirm this. With environmental temperatures below +18°C my phone works perfectly.
Mine's never had a overheat problem.... Anyway, thanks if it ever becomes a problem for me.
