Issues with Pandora - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey does anyone have issues with streaming Pandora? My issue is that my phone seems to just stop Pandora. No force close message or anything. And I've reinstalled, cleared cache and data etc. It happens on AOSP and stock. I've got the D851 variant. It's terribly frustrating. Also was just listening to it and got a SOD. I had to pull the battery. Weird. Just wondering if other people experience it also. :banghead:

Use Spotify. I think it's better than Pandora and it's also free.

I guess I should have clarified that I am totally aware there's a TON of different music streaming services. I don't want to really make it a thread about that. I've used all of them and just don't find that any of them match Pandoras algorithm for matching music to what you want to hear. IMHO.

let's talk radio

what internet radio are ya'll using? always been a pandora person but tried slacker and it really works well until u figure out that its in no way free. prefer something that is both PC and Droid based. dont really care to pay a monthly slacker fee, maybe i am just cheap. thanks for all opinions. just dont want to keep creating accounts to try different apps. info is kinda out dated or vague on all searches.
thanks
I love slacker. I use the cache option a lot. Download loads of music from radios stations and play then without a data connection is a big plus for me because I work out in the rural areas where data connections are spotty.

I use last.fm...*yes* I know it's subscription-based, but it's not too much and it's worth it to me. It's more personal than Pandora if you have enough scrobbles...I have five years worth of them, so it knows me real well.
I also use Stitcher for podcasts.
Pretty much set between Google music beta (instantly streaming any of my 8k songs is nice) and Pandora. As long as I have a data connection that is..
Slacker for me. I don't like that they got rid of the "next song coming up" thing, though. (For free at least)

Pandora, TinyShark (links to GrooveShark). Would like to try Google Music Beta.
For a couple hours there was a post in the thunderbolt forum with a modded Pandora app which allowed unlimited skips but was removed.

I remember that being a massive battery eater. Otherwise totally agree.
Never had it drain my battery any more than any application that streams data while in use. It does use more power than keeping songs on your phone but never was a battery drain on any of my devices. The new software definitely is smoother though.

I had it install apps on my homescreen. What a pain in the ass. Took me a couple of days to find out what the hell was installing apps, they would just appear out of no where. I was also getting ads in the notification bar. This was on my SG2 so maybe something is different with SG3.
haven't seen anyone mention this one yet but I use TinyShark Downloader... it downloads songs in mp3 format from groove shark and works really well. I don't think there are any ads but I use ad free so it might but I don't see them.there's also a version to stream instead of download. the download version is not on the market anymore (due to copyright issues maybe?)
exigo.x10.mx/ the green shark icon is the downloader and blue is the streaming version

streaming to Xbox360 UPnP apps

I have run into an frustrating issue as of late regarding streaming music from my s3 through my xbox using the built in music player. What is happening is the music player will randomly pause while streaming, requiring me to press the play button to get it going again. This is not being caused by incoming messages or calls. I don't have voice enabled. Keep wifi on is also enabled.
Strong wifi signal through entire home. Running frosty Jb v7.
If it's a player issue whats the best alternative? I tried a few from the play store 2player, bubble UPnp, poweramp , winamp. They either have ****ty interfaces or act just as wonky.
Maybe I am just not understanding the tech of it. I turn the xbox, tv and stereo on. Then push the icon on my music player(see attached photo) and it starts streaming through the xbox. I thought it was pretty slick until it started acting up on me.
I'm getting the same thing. Happens more often when I put the phone on shuffle.

Possibly a custom kernel issue? No idea, just a thought. I know they can cause things to not work properly sometimes.
Was on stock. Good thought though.

I tried bubble UPnP for a while.. didnt like the interface to begin with.. I want to go to artist then sort through various albums. It did work however until the program itself began freezing up and not retrieving my files. So that was a no go.
I am stock. Am I able to stream music as well? Or do I need a particular rom ...Assuming you guys figure this out.

Can be done on stock as well. Its a built in feature, just need to have a wireless(wifi) capable tv, xbox, or ps3 (maybe some thing else like adapters) pretty sure anything DLNA capable. And phone and Device need to be on same wifi.

I did it on stock very easy. If you have Xbox, as long as it's on, your good. If you are watching Netflix, it will stop what you are watching. You have to use a stock samsung app. I just go through my gallery, find a pic or a movie, choose it, and there is an option which looks like a monitor with a couple of hornizontal arrows going through it. This doesn't work for streaming something on a website or whatever. If it is a file already saved to your phone it will work. All you have to do is go to the picture, or start playing the video, tap the screen and on the top you will find that different icon. Again, you have to have your Xbox ON or it won't show the icon. For Xbox it is cool because you could start watching the video or pic on your phone and want to say to everyone, HEY< WATCH THIS! and with one click it goes.
You can also connect it to work with PS3 but it only works as a media server. Meaning, with Xbox, you can decide, hey, I want to watch this on the Xbox now! With PS3, you have to search for the file and THEN, play it. It's not such an immediate action.

What is making Google play music to not stream Gapless play back?

On every TW rom now that I've noticed Google play music doesn't seem to have gapless playback anymore. I thought it was a kernel issue but it wasn't the case. Any aosp rom like cm seems to have it. Why not tw all of a sudden??

Bump
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
I wanted to bump this after updating my Play Music to today's latest version, featuring All Access. OP says that they've gotten gapless playback out of Play Music on AOSP ROMs, but not TW. I haven't gotten it to work on any kind of ROM, and it's really frustrating. I want to leave Spotify for All Access, but Spotify's gapless streaming is a huge draw for me, and I'm just not understanding why I'm not experiencing the same thing when it's advertised as a feature of Play Music.
edit: wanted to clarify that I don't have gapless playback with local files, either.
Same boat here. I'm about ready to switch from Spotify to All Access, but lack of gapless playback is a big mark against Google Play.

It really sucks because I had Gapless playback in the beginning of January, then ever since mid January I lost that feature and never gained it back. Idk if it's a line of code that all gs3 devs are using to tweak their rom that's causing the feature to disappear, or if it's a Google error. My cousins gs4 has it and he's on stock non rooted TW. You don't know how frustrated I was when I heard one of my favorite live albums back to back on his phone when I can't on mine.

Pandora

So running root box 3.6 and have my phone pimped just the way I like it. Now when I open and play Pandora, I can't create a station. If I click add station, it changes to pick a station page and then changes right back to my stations and I can't enter any info to get a new station? Any help would be great. I have rebooted, reinstalled and no changes?

I have the same problem too but i don't think it's the rom because i think i had this problem on a different rom, i'm pretty sure it's pandora.
For such a mainstream app,, Pandora GUI really sucks.
I'm in the middle of some other things right now, so I can't try to duplicate your problem. I just wanted to use your thread to complain about Pandora.
Definitely an issue with Pandora, it's been bugging me for weeks
