Phone shutting off while data enabled

My friend is owning Xperia SL for a long time, it is rooted and has custom rom. Everything was going fine for about an year.
But since 3-4 days, the phone is shutting down whenever "mobile data (internet)" is enabled. It stays for few seconds, or minutes then the phone goes off. It doesn't even show the "Power Off" message, the screen simply fades away and the phone is off. And the battery percentage drops to 1%.
It is 100% sure the phone would shutdown if data is enabled. After much research, I also found that phone SOMETIMES shuts off if CPU usage is high (meaning you run some high-end apps or gaming). I have already reset the device, formatted system, cache, dalvik cache. Even I switched between JellyBean/Kitkat roms, but the problem still exists.
My friend is very desperate. What can I do to fix that phone (I am his expert )? I tried to fetch a logcat with "Catlog" when the phone goes off. It's attached.

Try to Recalibrate the battery
1) Drain Battery Completely, make sure it doesn't even have the ability to give any indication that it is running
2) Wait 24 Hours
3) Recharge to 100%

If worst case scenario and above does not work, instead of relying on cwm or twrp, use flashtool to completely reflash the firmware of your choice from scratch. This will remove any possibility of it being a software related issue.

Okay, I will try. Though I am not sure if that would work. The second one may help, I am going to reflash the STOCK rom/kernel with FlashTool soon.

Android OS Battery Drain

Hi All,
My predicament appears a bit special. From my searches I haven't found anyone that is quite like it. My Tab S 10.5 in is brand new, I've only had it for a week. I've updated 5.02, and I don't really have any idea how the battery life was prior to that update because I updated it as soon as I got it out of the box (which to me, was a grave mistake now...).
My Samsung Tab S is draining battery, but it is draining because of "Android OS" keeping my tablet 100% awake. when I say 100% awake, I mean in the awake bar it is completely solid with absolutely no breaks. I am rooted, and have tried BBS and Wakelock detector and they give me the same information. Tablet is 100% awake, and never ever gears down to "Deep Sleep". There are absolutely zero wakelocks present, kernel or partial (which is peculiar, I don't know why they aren't showing at all, they used to show when I first installed BBS and activated root). However, a peculiar thing is this isn't 100% consistent. I've had the tablet for 6 days as of today, and only 2/6 days did Android OS do this massive drain. The latest drain was last night, where between 5:00PM and 4:00AM it drained 81% of its battery. At around 4:00AM suddenly the Tab went into "Deep Sleep". What is the problem?
Prior to going to sleep at 11:00PM~ I enabled every single Samsung app via the Application manager in settings. I suppose Samsung finally finished downloading and syncing all the bloatware and **** it wanted to do, and finally let my tablet got to sleep by 4:00AM.
How do I determine what is keeping my tablet awake? Obviously Wakelock Detector and BBS has been absolutely no help thus far. Is anyone else having this problem? I need this tablet to be more reliable. I can't exit my house at the beginning of the day, not use it at all and jsut have it at 0 percent by night.
If you are going to advise flashing a custom rom/kernel, I will be doing so in the near future (once I get something settled), but as of right now it is a no go solution. I want to exactly pinpoint what my problem is, so that one day if I do happen to remain stock I can actually deal with the drain.
Some may say it is the Google Play services bug, but I have tried using "Disable Services" app to prevent this, and no change so far.

Why not just factory reset or downgrade to kitkat?

I have a specific game that my gf was playing that needed to be cracked through the obb files.
I know I can backup the apk+save data as I've done it numerous times on my Nexus 5, but I'd rather not risk losing her save data due to corruption or whatnot.
Also avoiding 5.02 lollipop/factory reset "may" be a solution but is not guaranteed. I want to know precisely what is happening, so that if the same thing occurs along in the future I don't have to downgrade/factory reset to remedy it.

Do you have any alarms or timers set, also an syncs can stop your tablet sleeping.
Have you tried "Deep Sleep Battery Saver" it controls the cpu and forces it to sleep when you tune the tablet off, it need root to work.

I don't recall setting any alarms/timers. BBS also does not indicate any Alarms in the alarms section.
Sync has been turned off.
I tried Deep Sleep Battery Saver already on aggressive mode, no change (at the time).
Like I said, my tablet suddenly was able to deep sleep after 8 hours... I'm just thinking of alternatives to try when the drain returns since it has visited me twice.

I would install the free watchdog app and use setup to include all processes and wait for any apps to use a lot of cpu power and it will sound an alarm, you can whitelist any games or app you dont want it to monitor.

I lost lost 30% in 3 hours while my tab was in it`s case during the night, luckily i had an battery monitor app set to check for high battery temps and sound an alarm, else my battery would of been flat by the morning.
EDIT: My 10.5 has never been rebooted or turned off since i got it, the battery manger says it`s been on for 157days.

Factory reset then see how it goes. If the issue is gone you know where the problem lies. Add back your apps in gradual fashion with titty backup and see if any cause the issue.
You could always restore everything if there is no change.

EDIT : CRAP - Somebody on this forum suggested to use Helium to do a backup, never tried it, but i bookmarked it just in case i need it.

+1 on this. Never used Helium but Titanium backup has been flawless for me. I would highly recommend that instead.

I was trying to avoid a full wipe. I've done backing up with Titianium Backup and ES File Explorer numerous times on my nexus 5.
Thanks for the input guys. I will try the Watchdog app as well.

The full wipe is just a test . It'll take only a few minutes to do a full device backup with twrp.You can then restore at will and be back to where you started. Anybody who has a custom recovery should have at least one full backup.

Exactly. One of the first things I do with every phone or tablet i purchase is root, install TWRP and take a full nandroid backup as well as install Titanium backup and backup everything. I know it may be a bit over the top but it ensures I can always get back to a clean slate or restore original state of apps. Highly recommend this as it will allow you to experiment and then return to last known state if you mess something up. If you do this, you really have nothing to lose.

As an update and for reference, the Android OS drain wouldn't stop. When I got home from work yesterday and unplugged @ 5:00PM battery was at 100%. With almost zero use, the battery had completely discharged by 4:00AM in the morning, and was overheating like crazy at 100% awake time. I couldn't take it any longer and had to do my wipe.
Things to note if someone could elaborate:
1) Prior to my wipe, I noticed that there was several issues with storage. I could not take screenshots due to "Unable to save screenshot due to storage space, app permissions or your organization", which none of the above is true. Why did this occur?
2) Prior to my wipe, I tried downloading a ROM via Chrome browser and the error "Download unsuccessful" appeared. I tried downloading the same ROM via Opera browser and it would download, but hang at 100% and I could not even find the file anywhere on my internal/external storages. Why is that?
3) I did a factory reset via TWRP. The first bootup after factory reset had me seriously worried as I thought my tablet had bricked. It took almost 5 minutes or so just to boot up. It was all fine and dandy - except the wakelock was still present. My tablet stayed awake for the entire 5 minute duration I tested (which is a small sample size and is a totally unfair sample, but I didn't have the patience to see my battery heat up due to 100% awake time). At this point in time, the screenshot function is now working again.
4) I proceeded to flash IronMan ROM, and wiped dalvik/cache right after the flash. What was extremely peculiar to me was that after my dalvik/cache wipe, the tablet rebooted instantly itself. I've never had TWRP do that. Every time I did a dalvik/cache wipe, it always informs me that the wipe is successful, and that I can go back to TWRP for more options. The reboot was unsuccessful as well, and hanged at the "Samsung Tab S powered by Android" logo, and wouldn't even proceed to the Samsung logo.
5) I rebooted into TWRP, did a factory reset cause I assumed there was something buggy with the IronMan ROM. When trying factory reset, an error popped up saying E/could not mount cache. The reset still proceeded though. Did a reboot after the reset finished and the same first boot took almost 5-10 minutes thinking my Tab S is bricked. It finally booted, and it appeared that the factory reset via TWRP didn't restore the tablet to Lollipop stock (which I assumed it would...). It was on IronMan ROM. Does anyone know how the factory reset works on TWRP? Should it have been Lollipop?
6) I rebooted just to check the boot time, and it rebooted in the normal 15 second span about so that's good. Screenshot function was still working. And most importantly....the tablet in just a 5 minute test deep sleeped for 4 mins and was awake for the 1st minute i was using it. Even after a 50 minute test, it deep sleeped for 45 minutes and was awake for 5 minutes. Which leads me to believe there is some sort of bloatware on the stock that Ironman removed, and is finally letting my tablet go to bed.
Can someone answer the plethora of questions in my procedure?

My M8 turns off by itself & afterwards settings etc are reset!

I'm experiencing a weird problem with my M8. The unit would turn itself off all of a sudden. This happens without a low battery warning and no other error messages or warning displayed on screen. No beeps or audio cues, either. I would be looking at it and using it as per normal when it would just power down and turn off all by itself. This has happened twice in the last two weeks. In both instances, they have these in common:
a) Battery was low but not critically so. IIRC, the first time it happened the battery was at 25% and the latest incidence the battery was at 18%. The low battery warning usually given at 15% power wasn't displayed.
b) In both cases, I've just only turned the display on & started using the M8 for less than 15 seconds before it turns off.
c) In both instances, the mobile data & GPS was on. Wifi was off. Phone wasn't charging and the camera/flash was also off.
What I do after this happens is I would go home & charge the phone using the original M8 charger. The charging battery icon would be displayed and the charging level tallies with the last charge level that I see before the phone turns off. I let the phone charge for about 10 minutes or so before tinkering with it.
What's frustrating is that after these sudden shutdowns, some of my settings were reset & the phone will be wonky. I had to re-do the settings in both the settings app & also Google settings according to my preferences. Some default apps were cleared as well, so the phone would ask which app I'd like to use for my Home screen (either Sense Home or Nova Launcher, which I use exclusively). Some developer options were reset too, e.g animation scale etc. Other basic settings as well, such as auto updating apps in Google Play Store.
Also, first time it happened, I was locked out of my phone. The lock screen is displayed but all the PIN combinations I've tried seems to be wrong. The lock screen would go off after I try inputting the PIN. Restart by pressing vol button with power button didn't work at all. I'd touch the screen, the lock screen will be displayed, I'd try inputting PIN but I guess it's wrong because the screen just goes off. In the end, I had to reset the PIN number using Android Device Manager on Chrome running on my desktop PC. Only then was I able to access my phone. My wallpaper was reset, although my app icons on the desktop was the same as before. Apps were all there.
The 2nd time this happened was yesterday. I wasn't locked out of my phone but all my text messages (SMS) were lost. No other loss of data, as far as I can tell. But some of the settings, default app preferences & also app permissions were reset. Had to redo them all over again. Getting a bit tiring, this.
I don't understand what's happening. My M8 is on 6.0, stock ROM & unrooted. Never rooted. I've done the battery calibration steps once but that was before the Marshmallow update. When my M8 was running Lollipop, there were times when it would turn itself off as well but it was triggered by using the camera flash at low battery levels. However, settings, app preferences & permissions were not reset at all then.
Has this happened to anyone? What could be wrong? Would appreciate any & all feedback Thanks in advance.

This happens to me too. My battery is dodgy and it turns itself off when the battery is displaying anywhere up to 30%!! What I have found is that if you attempt to turn the phone on and it turns back off during the boot process then this is what screws up the settings. As long as it is charging and completes the boot without turning off then the settings are fine.

This is a MM problem. Wasn't present with LP as you and others have reported.
The only possible fixes on your end is to do a factory reset and then run the phone down until it shuts off and then charge to 100% with the phone still off. You can also try holding power+vol up+vol down for 2 minutes. This should wipe battery calibration stats. These suggestions may or may not resolve the problem but are worth trying.

Its happening to me!
I thought this was MM issue but i have flashed cm 14.1 and still the same problem is happening. My phone turns of somewhere between 15%-30% everytime. I have tried re-calibrating the battery but it didn't help. Now i am thinking to sell the device due to this issue.

My girlfriend had the same problem with her HTC one M8.
I've replaced the memorycard with a new one last week and it didn't happen since. Hopefully this will solve the problem

I want to give an information about my experience with sudden shut off. I had this issue with my M8 since about six months now. Tried the stuff with recalibrating the accu without success.
Last thing I did was changing the accu. And now everything is all right. The power is remaining much longer over the daily use and I can bring it down below 15% without sudden death.

What is Battery process 39999 ?

I was wondering if someone else can look at there 5X and see if you have this same process in your battery stats.
I factory reset my 5X today and about 6 hours later i look in the battery stats section and see a black android guy with a process at 1% named 39999
I've never seen this before does yours show this same thing after you reset your phone and installed all the updated apps ?

No, but it appears its app optimization after updating apps, but weirdly it will say 39999 instead of app optimization if the battery is below 40%. I did a reset of the phone and updating the on board apps again and this time my battery was at 70% and it now says app optimization.

I'm using just the stock apps most of them are disabled though, I only use the phone for "a phone" and text messages aka Google Messenger. Yeah its just PID 39999, like i said i reset it today to check if the 39999 comes back on battery stats but it was replaced by App Optimization. My battery was 70% when I reset it, Yesterday it was at 40% when i reset the device.

One UI battery

Ever since I updated to Android PIE (One UI). I've noticed a major decrease in the battery. I was able to get a full day of usage with oreo, now I only get a little over half a day of usage. Not to mention the battery usage of screen off time is about 10-15% worse than what it was on Oreo...
I doubt I'm the only one with this problem, so has anyone found a fix to this? Or should I just revert back to oreo?

Make sure you factory reset after updating to Pie

I factory reset the phone after installing Pie and battery improved greatly. battery while using the phone is pretty much the same, but phone in standby time drains waaaay less battery than on Oreo.
You should factory reset your phone after every major update like this one

Is your google backup still working?
My SoT and standby battery improved graitly after deleting google accounts, samsung, and emails.
Only got twitter, fb, fb messenger as social media.
I know this is not a fix, but I did this, to check battery without google accounts activated.
I start to beleive my drain comes, from the phone trying to back up and get stuck, plus a play store that kept crashing.
It even showed at device maintenance, but then again, that one isn't working properly neither for a lot of users.

I've factory reset my phone. However I'm never gonna use samsung cloud to backup again, either backup wont work or restore won't work.
In terms of battery, it's gotten a little better, however I still feel like it was better back on Oreo.

I've owned my Galaxy S9 for a little over a month now, and I've done lots with it. I've installed a lot of apps and would hate to factory reset it and have to go through the process of setting it up again.
The battery has gotten worse on Pie but I want to fix the battery issue without factory resetting it. I know I can enable Power Mode but then I can't use Gear VR. Any ideas?

Clear cache from recovery
Install something like BetterBatteryStats and find out what is draining the battery (Needs some ADB commands to give it permissions but does not require root)
Disable AOD
Turn off background usage for apps you do not need to run in the background from that specific apps info screen
Dev Options > Background Check can also stop apps from running in the background
Turn off notifications for apps you do not need them from (I always assume if they have notification permission, they have to run in the background in order to provide notifications in the first place)
But the ultimate battery fixer after upgrading to a new Android version is and always will be a factory reset, you just cannot fix battery drain properly any other way, the previous OS leaves behind rubbish files which drains the battery, always been the case

I gave in and decided to back up my data using Smart Switch and factory reset. It was a pain setting everything up again and some apps just weren't reinstalled for some reason. I can confirm that the battery isn't as bad as it was previously, but it still drops by 1% every few minutes like on Oreo. I've turned on power saving mode and disabled AOD, but the battery still remains disappointing. Hopefully this will be fixed in a future update.
