I have a T-Mobile HTC one m8 and just bought a cheap Westinghouse TV. I'm trying to hook my phone up so I can watch videos and live tv on my tv from my phone. I just bought a MHL cable from radio shack for like 40$ and when I hook it up nothing happens. It doesn't even seem to recognize my phone. I switched the tv source to hdmi where it's plugged in and it says no source. I don't have WiFi where I'm at so this is the only way I can connect. I don't understand why it's not working. Is there a certain setting on my phone I should change or did I not buy the right cable? Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks

Not all cables work with all devices. The best for the M8 are those made by HTC or LG. The adapter needs to be the standard 5 pin configuration. If you got one made for, let's say Samsung, it would have a non-standard 11 pin setup.
I've never used them myself, so I don't know about any settings for them, but you may have to mount it in setting > storage
The one I got was from Radio shack and it wasn't cheap it cost me 40$. I just looked in storage and I didn't see anything for mounting as far as connections go. But I should be able to do what I asked right? Just mirror the screen on my tv via micro usb to hdmi

It doesn't matter how much it costs if it isn't meant for your phone. What brand and model? Does it have a standard 5 pin configuration? Also, what version of MHL does it use? I believe the M8 is v1.0.
I have a tmobile HTC m8. Damm I didn't know there were different types. I just thought there was a standard. I'm not sure how many pins it has. It doesn't say it anywhere in the instructions. I'm not sure which cable to buy that would work

I googled it, and it's a crappy cable. One star reviews saying it doesn't work. http://www.radioshack.com/radioshac...tion-link-mhl-cable/1500464.html#.VSrCO_nF-ao
I'd take it back and search online for one that is confirmed to work with the M8. You can almost certainly find one that costs less as well.
This one on eBay works perfectly. 221664152668

Hi,
Is this item will work with our phones?
Link changed:

That's from a Mac to a TV

Yep. As far as I can see, this is a mini-DisplayPort to HDMI cable. This will NOT work on your phone. The cable simply won't fit in your device.
Wrong link
Sorry wrong link i copied ,this one i'm talking about.

A quick Google and YouTube search showed me that there are more people who use such a device and that you can indeed use it to connect your phone (HTC WildFire S) to a TV. So it should work. But before you buy it, make sure to check if your TV has an HDMI jack and make sure you have an HDMI to HDMI cable, else you should buy one.

If anyone tried before please reply.
There is IPOD RCA TV-OUTcables which is work with some android phones too but still not sure it will work or not.
Here is link
Again, a quick Google search helped me to find an answer to this problem, see here:

As they say in the thread, the Desire S does not have the right port for that... Sorry, but you can't!

Hehe man i already know its not working for desire s.
I am asking for wildfire s
I checked out the ends from the pics and they are indeed micro usb. So theoretically it will work. But in practice... You'll probably have to be the guinea pig to try it. But if you succeed, it may just make you a legend 'round here.
In my opinion you might need to code a it in a rom so that it recognises and gives you something "out" on the TV

A quick call to the HTC Helpdesk taught me that the usage of (MHL) MicroUSB to HDMI cable is only possible on the HTC Sensation or the HTC EVO 3D. Sorry, but it's not for the HTC Wildfire S...

I'm sure they are talking about there own MHL cables. Which they product for few htc devies. ( like this one http://www.htcaccessorystore.com/uk/p_htc_item.aspx?i=209996 )
They didnt make cable for wildfire s its why they are telling only for few device.
What about RCA cable, did you ask them? ( actually they are not making RCA cable so answer will be no again (RCA cable is for IPOD anyway ,but working with android devices))

I don't think it'll work. I asked them about the MHL functionality of the MicroUSB port of the HTC Wildfire S and the guy said that it can't be done. Sure, you can try, but I don't think it's possible... It would most likely be a waste of money. But then again, if you feel like you have too much money, go for it.
EDIT: If you do go for it, I cannot take responsibility when it doesn't work or when it damages your phone, bank account balance or whatever. It will be YOUR responsibility..
I does the wfs have DLNA? If so HTC media link adapter, if not well its usb to hdmi. Before you get a cable make sure your tv has a hdmi port

I really have no idea what you're trying to say, but ehhm, the guy I spoke to at the HTC Helpdesk told me it is possible to link your phone to your TV with DLNA, if you have the proper equipment for it (he said you could then share your phone's screen via WiFi).
I know DLNA thing. my tv have dlna. but i want to play game or use apps /web browser on my tv (+bluetooth keyboard etc)( LIVE STREAM). I searched on google and saw wildfire s using 5 pins micro usb and this cable is 5 pins to 19 pins . I think im going to order a cheap cable from ebay.
But still maybe i will need tv out app (few android devices have settings for tv out) so rom makers please go for it
BTW i loled .

Nice one, they even ship outside UK. That is usually the problem when buying from Amazon.co.uk. Never know if you'll be able to get it until check out time.
While I'm at it, is it a good idea to also get an OTG USB host converter?
What could I use it for?
Could I get this adapter and us it with the custom JellyBean ROMs? (specifically Viscious Liquid 4.1.1-V1).
http://www.amazon.com/Micro-USB-HDMI-MHL-Adapter/dp/B005NG71K8
It looks like that one goes to a regular HDMI (instead of micro HDMI) which is nice, and also has the USB port extended for charging as well.
Thanks!
I can't say if it's the exact same or not, but mine looks identical to that one, right down to the writing on it. I got it from monoprice (actually cablesonsale.ca, which sells monoprice stuff in Canada). It works great.
The micro USB port isn't just for charging though... you have to plug it in for the adapter to work. At least with mine, anyway.

Not sure if you were laughing 'at' or 'with' me, but whatever - I 'll still update this post when I get it.
It won't arrive for a little bit (1saleaday is slow to ship), so I figure I'll ask some questions in the meantime.
Does it support MHL 2.0? I've seen conflicting info, in that some places don't even mention MHL support. And if it's not 2.0, does it require that specific 11-pin Samsung adapter? Selling my HTC One and not sure if I should just include my current 5-pin adapter with it.
Does it work with the Smart Dock like the regular S4 and whatnot? Assuming it works with MHL 2.0, I don't see why it wouldn't work with the Smart Dock.
What kind of sound hardware does it have? I don't suppose its Wolfson...
Does it support exFAT for microSD? I've seen confirmation that it supports 64GB cards at least.
And any idea if it'll have a wireless charging back like for the S4? Don't know if it even supports wireless charging.
I've tried mhl 1.0 and 2.0. Both don't work. Also tried USB OTG also doesn't work.
I have a 64gb micro sd but I can't remember how it's formatted. But definitely works.

Well crap, I was banking on at least regular MHL - are you sure its not the cable you're using (as in, it requires the Samsung specific 11-pin cable)? If not, then I guess GSMarena is wrong (wouldn't be the first time).
I've tried both a cheap one from ebay and the samsung geniune one which works with my normal Galaxy S4 without using the power cable......both cable works on my normal GS4 but it doesn't work on my MIni GS4....i've also tried with or without the power cable attached and still doesn't work.

only the samsung hdmi adapter works with the GS4 mini due to a specific protocol since it is not HML enabled. I know... it sucks, but it has other ways to connect to a TV

samsung smart TVs have this almost-like "wifi-direct" connection and you can mirror through wifi the phone's display. like sony has with their phones&TVs. you need to be connected to the same wifi... that's it

Hello,
We're in the market for phone upgrades. I currently have a Pixel XL and my spouse still has his Nexus 5x. We're giving some thought to the SGS9+, if we can find a BOGO type deal as TMO did several times last year. While they aren't that exciting, I do like the addition of Samsung Pay that works with any strip reader and some of the other features (though we aren't completely sold on it yet).
We're traveling and typically bring a streaming stick which works in most places. But the internet in our current place is just too show so it doesn't work at all. We happened to have an external hard drive with some media files on it but we're currently having to use a Windows laptop to run the files since the stuck doesn't have a USB in.
I'm wondering if it's possible to use the SGS9+ as an OTG to read the external hard drive while using the HDMI out at the same time? Can I charge too? Would some sort of a USB C dock work for this? Or something else? Thanks so much in advance!

Maybe to late of a reply, but i think your refering to the samsung dex pad. It has 2 usb ports, 1 hdmi out, ethernet. Phone connects to dock via usb c. Kind of expensive tho $99. You can also buy a generic version that does the same thing on amazon for $30. It doesnt look as pretty, but functionality is the same.
