Hi
Currently I'm running on 5.0.2 on my Tab S but want to check something out that requires 4.4.2 to be installed on my Tab S. Is it ok to go back to 4.4.2 if your Tab S is currently running on 5.0.2?
Thanks
Yes, you can go back to 4.4.2. using 'Odin' .
If you already have twrp I suggest you do a backup first as you are going to have to do a factory reset after going back to kitkat.
It would have been prudent to have made a backup before updating to lollipop as you could have easily downgraded.
Don't install custom recovery unless you don't mind tripping Knox.
What's this Knox I keep hearing about?

Hi guys, For some reason I lost my 4.1 back up. I'm on 4.3 and custom recovery. Can I just flash the stock 4.1.2 back to go back to 4.1.2 or am I stuck with 4.3? Thanks :crying:

Are you sure? Cause I thought you were supposed to make a backup of 4.1 before flashing 4.3?

That's so you don't lose your setup.
Read around and you'll see MANY people have restored back to 4.1.2
In fact it's in the thread you got the leak from. ...

I was on UCAMH3. I couldn't find the stock rom of that version. Is that ok if I downgrade my phone to ALJ2?
I can also confirm I have restored back to 4.1.2 from 4.3 and make backups without issues
Hope good recovery

I am worried about backup and restore issue.
I hope that you can solve the problem.
Hello All!
I am switching to Sprint in a few weeks and getting an S3. I believe they have 4.1.2 on them now? Anyway, I would really like to be able to update/flash STOCK 4.3 onto it. I am not new to rooting and flashing other devices (like motorolas), but have had a lot of trouble with a galaxy 7.7 tablet (I bricked it).
Could someone please tell me what I need to do?
Do I need to root first, then use odin to install stock 4.3?
Thank you so very much!

Is the phone your getting brand new? If so, it will come with 4.3 and KNOX security. you can always check by going to settings>about phone, read android version and baseband-if baseband ends in mk3, then it has KNOX.

No, I should have stated. I am getting a used GS3.
Even if its used you can go to menu>settings>system update then update firmware and samsung software and it should give you android 4.3 with KNOX. If you are already rooted or if you don't want knox then you need odin to flash a recovery then install a rom using recovery
Hi everybody. I've been looking for what should i do, now that the 4.4.4 rolled out, to update my phone without losing the root access. I'm in 4.3 currently, and i did read that been on .283, you can obtain root access by flashing the .230 kernel, rooting, and then installing the .283 kernel again. But my problem with this, is that i don't know exactly what to do to get .283. I have a C6506 generic usa, so i should have the .283 update available via OTA and via PCC, but i'd prefer using OTA (since my PC have some issue i have to fix first), so i guess .283 will appear in the update center after i get to .230.
So, there exist some problem doing this(updating 4.3->4.4.2->4.4.4 via OTA)? Will it crash or anything similar :silly:?
Thanks in advance!
Yeah you have to update to 4.4.2 first for 4.4.4 to appear, I just did the same update line 4.3>4.4.2>4.4 but I went back to 4.3 lol not really liking 4.4.4.
I see...but what about root? You was rooted on 4.3 and then you updated through OTA to 4.4.4? So there is not risk doing this?

Yeah I was rooted and unlocked bootloader, I had to relock my bootloader to update via OTA. You can just reroot when you're on 4.4.4

I was rooted on 4.3. I just used PC companion to 4.4.4. Didn't lose any data.
Then just rerooted 4.4.4.

That's great news, thank you!

I've been waiting for months for an official samsung kitkat update for my phone. (i9195L). Today I checked on sammobile and saw that the update has arrived, for Trinidad and Tobago.
Now that it has been released, I want to know if I can flash it over my Carbon Rom, which has Android 4.4.4.
I want to know if I can go back to stock and flash this new firmware with kitkat on my device via Odin, or if I will have any problem considering I'm actually downgrading to 4.4.2.
Thanks in advance.

Good rule of thumb with OTAs. Don't perform then on a custom rom. I would use Odin to report to stock. Then see if you can get the update via OTA. However keep in mind that the newer update may not have a root method so if that is important to you, check into that. And always back up in recovery! Flashing back to stock should not harm you device.

U won`t really downgrade But take into consideration this :
Do u have Knox bootloader active ? 0x0 or 0x1 in download mode ? Once u flash KitKat u can`t downgrade to samsung jellybean. U can flash aosp again if stock samsung won`t fit u . If u don`t have Knox bootloader i woyld flash an older firmware that does not contain Knox, 2 3 times in a row until u bring your phone to Official not custom and after that flash samsung kitkat. That way u will sure have knox not triggered, all flashed good modem and so and no problems. I think i write too much and u won`t understand a thing ( i`m bad at explaining stuff )

Yes, you write too much, lol. But I get your point. Thanks for the reply.
I have Knox set to 0x1 so I guess it's activated, but I don't have any plan going back to jelly bean. i will stay with kitkat.
Besides I think there's already a way to root stock with kitkat via Towel root, so I guess it's a lot of help.

I don't completely agree. Towelroot worked on stock 4.4.2 for me fresh after an Odin restore. I believe it doesnt work on HTC phones and something else. Don't hold me to that I could be wrong. But Towelroot should work great for the OP

I'm currently on DU Rom, if I want to test offical Kitkat I have to flash it with odin? And if I want to go back to DU how can I do it? With a backup?

Yes if you stock kit kat without root and such you will need to use odin. Using odin will give you a complete stock. Recovery, kernel, etc. Meaning you won't have a custom recovery to restore a back up. Back up your current setup using your custom recovery and keep the back up on your external storage. If you choose to go back if stock doesn't work for you, you may be able to restore the back up once you re-root and install the custom recovery, but it may cause some errors. I'm not 100% sure that the restore will work or not. My suggestion is to find a stock rom that is only rooted and not modded. Less hassle that way. And much easier to go back to your current rom if you don't want the stock rom.

One question: If I already installed this firmware (kitkat) How can I root it? Towelroot? I don't want to trigger Knox, I want to Root it workout having to enable Knox and put that message with yellow letters..
Edit: I rooted it by installing recovery and flashing the rootkit. So far so good.
I have a Samsung Galaxy tab pro 12. SM-T900 I'm running a rooted 5.1.1 but the app i want to run is only compatible with 4.4.2 so i want to go back to 4.4.2 rooted, if at all possible. please advise
I, too want to return to 4.4.2, but mostly so I can root it (I don't want to flash a custom rooted ROM). My warranty is expired, so I'm not worried about flipping the warranty bit.
I already tried (with 5.1.1): Kingroot; Towelroot; etc. I also flashed the stock 4.4.2 via Odin, but of course, it doesn't take.
As an alternative, I would be more than happy to root 5.1.1 as soon as a technique is published, but there are a few inconsistencies with 5.1.1 that I do not like and, would prefer 4.4.2, for now.
Thanks!
Download stock from sammobile. Flash with ODIN and due a full wipe first, it takes. I've done it many times and it works for me on my 12.2.

Actually, I was trying to avoid a full wipe, but I think I've read that same advice elsewhere.
It just seems to take so long to get this thing back to where I want it! But, if I can finally get rid of all the Samsung bloatware, I guess it's worth it.
Thanks.
