[Q & A] SM-T217S on freedompop - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I see that plenty of people have rooted the SM-T217S, but has anyone done it on freedompop? I'm wary because you use their app to make phone calls, and I'd hate to find that the app won't run on rooted tablets.

I rooted mine yesterday and the FreedomPop Messaging app works fine. Then I updated recovery to TWRP and installed NeGaLite ROM:

Cool! Thanks a lot! I'm happy with the stock software, but I love trying different ROMs on my devices.

I was relieved to have TWRP to make a Nandroid backup of the rooted stock ROM before attempting the upgrade. Good luck!

[Q] How to upgrade to Android 4.0.3

Hi,
Just got my Nexus. Can't update it as Nexus says it's up to date. And my Android version is 4.0.1 at the moment.
But I see in your signatures most of you have 4.0.3.
Do I need to be a developer (must have SDK or smth) to upgrade? Or is there a simple way to do that?
Thanks!
4.0.3 OTA is not available. It's in AOSP.
Only way to get 4.0.3 is to use a custom ROM .

Thanks!!!
That was quick
I think I will wait for official. Have no balls messing with custom ROMs at the moment Tired already of messing with Windows Mobile and searching for a perfect ROM (didn't find that in 3 years).

well luckily for you if you ever decide to go the custom rom route, the people at samsung, google, and the wonderful developers online have made it almost idiot proof, and safe to do. you will probably be surprised how easy it is. in fact, most people seem to have the most issues installing the windows(or mac) drivers properly.
peter alfonso - peteralfonso.com has the Bugless Beast rom, which is nearly stock aosp, and very stable
i have to say I tried rooting, unlock and custom rom... and the hardest bit was finding the right drivers.. but used the universal ones (in the forums) and it worked like a charm.. Just follow a guide and it's simple... but I've stuck with stock as the camera functionality isn't as good in AOSP... will flash cm9 when its ready though
go with the one touch app for rooting and the touch clockwork app they work great

You don't need to install any drivers on Mac to make fastboot working. Just download a fastboot binary (like on Linux).
Btw
When we should expect 4.0.3 to be released officially?
How long it usually takes to release a new version?

no ETA. it is ready when it is ready.
flash to custom 4.0.3 if you want it now
I am also still at 4.0.1 and when I check for update, still no 4.0.2
When were will be an update to 4,0,3 will we be able to update without losing all the settings?
I have Backup checkbox marked in my settings.
So, if I'm on 4.0.2 and download a 4.0.3 ROM it will be compatible? Same with flashing a 4.0.3 kernel on a 4.0.2?
Thanks

No ROMs for p607?

I just rooted and installed recovery on my note 10.1 and I saw hyperdrive which I'm familiar with but can't install. So basically is ASOP the only thing I can install? Kind of disappointing if that's true. The development doesn't seem to be buzzing on this device.

Yup the Tablet is pretty much dead. There has been pretty much no updates at all. I am hoping ARHD comes out with a 4.4.3 rom. I would really like it if someone could post a working Tar file for the latest 605 firmware. Stock firmware is running fine with root. Just a few things that bug me that I am hoping is fixed with the updated firmware.

That's annoying. Was hoping for some awesome roms. I mean it was so easy to unlock and it's on tmobile you'd think there would be much more.

New to LG G3

I've been using Moto and samsung phones for a long time. I've become very familiar with sammys odin and loaded and modified many roms.
I just got the LG G3 851 (TMO) phone and have it running on cricket wireless. Did some research and have some questions if you can help out.
1)Can i flash 855 (international) roms?
2)No official Cyanogen roms but a couple CM based ones seem to be out there. Anyone use it as a daily driver? Known major issues? camera, wifi, sd card?
thanks

I just came to my first LG about a week ago after HTC EVO series, then S3, Note 3 and 4. Right now, I would recommend stock rooted, with SkyDragon kernel untouched. I froze about 67 elements, use xposed with gravity box, greenify, and a few other modules. On T-mo 10r, and tried several AOSP/CM/PA based, as well as a modified stock. It seems to me that until the official 5.02 official image is released, we are stuck with new problems with lolli, and old problems with old stock based. Best to setup what ya got the way you like it for now. Don't know if this is applicable to you on cricket, just sharing my experience/opinion. Good thing is that even full stock LG is around 700Mb smaller than Touchwiz. Just had to deal with locked bootloader for the first time in a while. Good luck!:good:

Firmware is not compatible. You will brick your phone.

All the G3 variants have slightly different internals, so no, flashing anything that specifically doesn't say it will work for 851 is very bad and will give you a pretty new paper weight. The cyanogen site should have 851 on it to download.

Never used Trickstermod, so I can't tell you how it works on the G3. I know it's not on their official support list, but that doesn't mean it won't work either. No reason you can't install busybox if you are rooted.

Yes. Make sure you do a full backup (make sure your backup has EFS) Then you can also just flash back to your backup.

Flash SkyDragon kernel, and use paid trickster, set according to OP kernel forum. I have 67 elements frozen via Titanium, use greenify, and SkyDragon on stock rooted. Get 30-64 hours depending. YMMV :good:

We have a T-Mobile Kernel now, What ROMS can we install?

now that we have a working kernel for our device, what roms are we able to flash with out kernel and have good results?
Will regular S6 roms work or will we have to stick to edge only? I dont mind about losing the edge function too much.

We had a kernel for a while lol....... You could regular s6 roms but u will lose all the edge functions.... international roms still don't work,
Nothing catches my eye more than a KT kernel though. Thanks for the suggestion of regular s6 roms.
You said international roms won't work, what does that include? Does Canadian versions work on our device?

I tried tmobile S6 rom which is XtreStoLite Pure Edition 1.0c with our custom kernel.....and is not working...(on full wipe)
I mean is working but when you switch screen OFF you can't switch ON back...
(PS screen is flashing looks like white/black colors)
So what do you mean we can flash other roms?
Come guys post links !
What recovery did you use? There's a user in the 5.1.1 rom thread who has had success using v2 TWRP in the same the ad. Really hope your wrong or using an old recovery, because I was looking forward to flashing that rom.

v2 recovery of cause.
I flashed stock rom via odin, flashed latest recovery via odin (v2 twrp)
Boot up the phone. After that restarted to recovery, full wiped, flashed that rom, flashes kernel.
Restarted. It's working until u will switch screen off.

Did u flashed on 5.1.1? Or on 5.0.2 ?
While on 5.0.2 would be the safest way to go, would be my best assumption, though I've tried neither yet. If you flashed while on 5.1.1, might be worth trying over 5.0.2 instead of waiting for others to reply and sitting idly! Just my $.02. :good:

Huh... So you haven't done over top of 5.1.1, then, I re-assume? Wouldn't have ever imagined that first... Might be worth trying 5.1.1, then if it doesn't work, we'll have to wait for the others. Hope you get it working, bud! :highfive:

Sprint Rom Choice Question

Hello I just got my Note 4 yesterday and already rooted it. What do you guys recommend for a stable ROM for someone coming from using Josh Beach's Jellybomb/KitKat Killer for so many years.

Not familiar with either of those but I'm using Alliance as my DD and highly recommend it along with Emotion kernel.
I would suggest either the Alliance ROM or the Noterized ROM, and use the Emotion kernel with whichever you choose.

No! OE1 is at this time a pair of handcuffs. Look around at some of the threads such as don't take the update
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3118554
and stock rooted ob7.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3060130
You'll see what I mean. Glad I didn't go stock just because I could. A lot of users have learned that lesson the hard way.
U can still unlock your device under the developer options n I just need a nandrod back up of oe1
