Everywhere I look for guides and files all say they are for previous firmware revisions
I have attached a screenshot of my device info
Any help clarifying this would be greatly appreciated, trying to root tonight if I can without bricking.

Sorry for that..
That will work with the latest OTA update? Will I be able to return to stock recovery or should I just go with twrp? I've been waiting for lollipop on my devices OTA updates but now I want to root to debloat and get ex sd access back.

Reading that through bit more it seems like he is downgrading to root? All the firmwares he is talking about are before this most recent update less than 30 days ago.
Sent from my SM-P605 using XDA Free mobile app
Yes, downgrade->root->update (obviously the step 5 is to be used with newer kernel as you can read on important note) !
Thrust me, safe and clean
If you root using twrp with the tool available you'll end up with an old kernel (and from another tablet) with a malfunction pen
I just got a Verizon unit (had WiFi only previously). I am currently on build # KOT49H P605VVRUCNC2, can I root straight away from here or do I need to change versions first?
This is the tool to make root :
https://towelroot.com
Although it works with kernel's made until june last year, try it.
Works on mine with NK1 and a Nov. 11th kernel.

I haven't tried that because. I think my kernel is after July (but I'm not sure). What will happen if my kernel too late, any harm? Is it possible to downgrade kernel?
I've been out of the root game for a couple of years. I feel lost !

OK. NK1 is the latest verizon - I haven't updated yet because I was afraid it might lock me out of doing anything. I have a couple of questions:
I can just update to NK1 and then do towelroot?
Towelroot is an apk - just sideload and run it?
THANKS!!!!!!

After I updated, I just ran towelroot again. Reinstalled supersu and all was well.
Ran wanam xposed, everything works, no problems.
So did the update unroot you or were you rooted before hand? Word being rooted before the update (vs. me not being rooted beforehand) have any bearing in towelroot success?
I unrooted, updated, then rerooted. Can't update it if it's rooted.
I updated thru kies with a rooted device. Updated fine but I did lose root. I was disappointed to see a November kernel after that and figured towelroot wouldn't work, but it did. Thanks for your help.
I came from a wifi note (sm-p600) and was surprised that the 605 is only officially up to 4.4.2 I think my 600 was at 4.4.4.
I havent flashed a ROM yet...again, I'm rusty and really don't want to get into flashing one then another, then another. Got to decide on that next.
I tried towelroot on my SM-P605 running 4.4.2 (KOT49H.P605XXUCNJ1) and got the error: This phone is not currently supported.
Are there any other options while still not tripping Knox?
If not, is anyone on the same firmware build as me and has successfully rooted using CF Auto Root?

It will trip Knox but I rooted by flashing TWRP then using it to flash the latest SuperSU.zip file, I believe its 2.46, though there is the beta 2.49.
Or you can use the toolkit found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...olkit-unified-android-toolkit-galaxy-t2998214
It too will trip Knox...

Is THIS the TWRP version that you used for yours?

"Root de la Vega" What kind of name is that?
It's named after Ralph de la Vega, CEO of AT&T Mobility.
Can I flash custom recovery/kernel/rom without tripping KNOX flags?
No, Flashing a custom ROM will trip the flag
No, Flashing a custom Kernel will trip the flag
No, Flashing a custom Recovery will trip the flag
Will this set a tripped KNOX flag 0x1 back to 0x0?
No.
Can you help me with the drivers?
No, but you can head over here for help with drivers.
How do I get into download mode?
Method 1: adb reboot download
Method 2: Pull the battery out, unplug the usb cable, reinsert the battery. Hold Volume Down + Home + Power. Follow the instructions on the screen.

No, KNOX flags will not be tripped!
Will root survive a factory reset?
Yes, it does.
Will root survive an OTA update?
The Sprint Note 3 has survived an OTA update, you only need to perform the sdcard steps again to get root. However, you should NOT take OTA updates, it is possible for them to patch the root method with an OTA update.
Do I need have to fully wipe my phone when rooting?

Does Xposed Framework work?
Yes, it has been updated to work fully with the Note 3.
Will rooting report system as custom and display an unlocked lock on the initial boot screen?
Yes. It can be removed by installing Xposed Framework with Wanam Xposed and enabling Security hacks > Fake system status.
Titanium Backup is giving me problems, how can I fix it?
Check out this thread. If you are still having issues, please take your concerns to the dev, they are not related to rooting.

From terminal emulator or adb shell as root, run; pm disable com.sec.knox.seandroid
Or freeze the Knox apps with Titanium Backup.
I am getting Force Closes after flashing, how can I fix it?
Make sure you are flashing the CSC file! If you are, try flashing AP and CSC separately.
Good stuff. did this yesterday and it worked like a charm.
Thank you so much!
just to confirm, i can remove/freeze system apps, run ad blocker, xposed, etc, with just root, right? I have never not fully "unlocked" a device and just stayed with the stock ROM. So just want to confirm before using this. And thanks btw for your hard work on this.
And one last one...Im pretty sure I wont be able to get OTA's so how would one go about updating once an OTA has been released without tripping knox?
EDIT: I just saw the 2nd post with all the FAQ...some reason it didnt show before until after I posted. But still wondering about the OTAs

You can do all of that fun stuff with root
I am unsure on the OTAs, haven't had any roll out yet.
I can also confirm, worked like a charm. Did it today, and didn't lose any data. Phone was how it was pre root, but with added SU goodness.

Hey designgears,
Nice to see you're still at it. Your old Cognition ROM (eclair iirc) was one of the first ROMs I ran on my SGS1 Captivate, years ago, before I settled on CyanogenMod. Didn't see you in SGS3-land, but here you are again with the Note3. Hey-ohhhh.
Thanks.

I'm sorry if this is too off topic but, while it IS wonderful to have a root method like this and I'm VERY grateful for it, most of what I read online states that a custom recovery will mess with knox and cause issues. I dint know if I could keep an android phone and not flash custom roms! I'm still within my return window with t mobile (I'm coming from Sprint) and I'm actually thinking about trading for a nexus 4. Hope we get a functioning recovery soon!

Works perfectly. Donated!
I can also confirm that if you bork stuff while rooted, you can Odin the stock rom over everything and start over without throwing the Knox flag.
I know that flashing a custom recovery or custom ROM will trip the KNOX counter...BUT...
1. is it possible to adb sideload (after Root de la Vega)?
and...
2. if you CAN adb push and pull, can we pull the framework-res.apk, modify it to our liking and push it back...or will this be the same as flashing a custom ROM which will trip KNOX?
I am curious because I'd like to enable unlimited wifi tethering like I did on my old Galaxy S III by creating a flashable zip (however with Note 3 I wouldn't make it flashable, just push)
Thanks for your work putting this together.
It was real easy to do, and root certainly is appealing. One thing I need is device-level encryption, and that is so far unavailable on a rooted N3.
I've even tried Xposed Framework with Wanam Xposed, and checked System status via TriangleAway:
Counter = 0
Binary = Official
System = Official
But somehow device still won't encryp. Back to stock I go (a 3rd time)...
My first post here and my first Android device.
Bought a Note 10. 1 2014 last week at Future Shop with firmware version MJ4. Heard that MK1 is the latest update but I could not find where its available. Tried Software Update in Setting function but it said my firmware is the most current. Is MK1 update coming to Canada soon?
I also bought mine from future shop almost 2 weeks ago and I'm running mj4 and it is telling me no updates available

Is the procedure explained somewhere and does it need root? Can I for example flash whatever 3rd firmware is available atm into my North European Note?

Did the flashing trip the KNOX counter? Did it remain with normal status in the system info?
I'm in Canada too and also wondering why we are not getting the update. I asked in the Facebook page of Samsung Canada and as usual they don't have any information: "We don't have information about upcoming updates as of now, but when we do, we will let you know. Thank you"
I flashed mk1. The status is official. I don't think it tricks knox bit.

There is no "Canadian" version. Just use the region XAR. I downloaded from http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SM-P600. I flashed with Odin 3.09. This was done before rooting. After flashing, the status still showed official.

Yes. I used cf-auto to root and tripped the knox. In fact I used TWRP 2.6.1 first but it run into boot loop. Then I used cf-auto to root and flash TWRP 2.6.0 (don't flash 2.6.1).

Hi,
Since updating to 4.3 (biggest mistake I've made), I've been looking for root methods or a way to downgrade back to 4.1.2. I tried the De La Vega Root method but that didn't end up working out. I heard Kingo and VROOT are malicious. I was going to try the CF Auto Root Method but I don't want to trip my Knox Counter because I've heard I won't get any future updates if I do so. What methods are available to root my phone or downgrade it back to 4.1.2?
Phone: Galaxy S3 (SGH-i747M on Rogers Wireless)
Baseband Version: I747MVLUEMK5
Build Number: JSS15J.I747MVLUEMK5
I think I have the same problem as you. But are you unable to get further updates if you remove knox?

As of now, trying to downgrade will brick your phone. Rooting thus far will most likely trip counter. For now, there is nothing you can do but ride out and hope there is a solution. I would not try anything further until something is confirmed to be working. You are taking a chance on bricking your device otherwise.
Flash TWRP via odin (newest one). When rebooting from the recovery screen, accept to install root. Once you boot the phone, install the SuperSU via TWRP and the phone will reboot. Once booted up again, open SuperSU and you'll receive a prompt to remove KNOX, click yes. You're done.
Thx for advice

Has this been tested to not trip knox counter?
From everything I have read, the Knox counter will be tripped.
From Chainfire re i9505 (https://plus.google.com/+Chainfire/posts/ZKuMQ3fNzuN):
Knox Warranty on new I9505 ROMs
As I've stated before, my dev version of Triangle Away is currently operational (though not yet released) for the flash counter and binary status with the new Knox I9505 ROMs.
If you have an I9505 you've probably noticed the new Knox Warranty status in the bootloader, and I know some of you are hoping Triangle Away will reset that.
Unfortunately, that's unlikely. I've taken a look around, I've disassembled the bootloader, etc, and it looks like an efuse might be involved ( == not resetable ). I'm not exactly sure what triggers it yet either.
Mind you, I'm not a bootloader expert nor have I spent hours and hours digging through it, so there's a chance this information might turn out to be wrong later - but that's what it currently looks like to me.
If you were on 4.11 or 4.1.2, you would not have knox on your phone and rooting would not be a problem. You would just need to reset the flash counter for warranty purposes.

Honestly I couldn't tell you. I just did the update to my phone. I'm looking all that up now. As far as your back up. It's always a good thing to back up your current rom in case you ever wanna go back to it. What I did was just flash stock Rom with out root using Odin. And I received the update today. It just now finished. It takes a good min to download. It's 495mb rather big big file.

Odin with the new firmware then boot into recovery and wipe the phone and cache. You'll be back to stock 4.4.2
I'm not sure if they're is any proven methods to achieve root without tripping Knox for 4.4.2, I personally don't care about tripping Knox and cf auto rooted.

I'm of the frame of mind that you should never accept OTA updates unless you have no plans at aftermarket firmware modification. Since you are already rooted I would caution against it...even if only to establish good habits. This OTA might be safe but who knows if the next one locks up the bootloader? I'd Jump immediately to another device. I have no desire to get stuck on stock, especially with a risk of no exploit available for root...for a while? Forever? Who knows...that's a roll of the dice I'm not willing to take. The developers do amazing work and I am thankful for every moment of time they spend making roms, finding root, writing recoveries, etc etc etc. But I am not so arrogant as to expect every patched up whole to be cracked open again, by someone else no less.
It'll probably be less than a day (I've seen it take less than an hour on some devices) until a dev has a flashable zip and a pre-rooted Odin image that doesn't trip Knox.
...I've seen tons of impatient users posting after rushing to grab the update asking how to rootagain, or how to unlock the new bootloader, how to get back things they used to have...over many many many devices. Just because T-Mobile has been cool in the past is no indicator that they will continue to be cool in the future.
...patience...

In the past several people have reported problems when taking an OTA update with a rooted G-Pad. Rather than risk it, I have always done a completely clean update with a wipe of the device using the LG Tool Upgrade Recovery with my V500. Once that completes I re-root the device and continue on.

Even if you don't have a custom recovery installed? Because I saw that some people with root only updated their G Pads ota with no problems with only root removed afterwards! They may have lied however!
I think this ota update with root problem applies to most android phones, right?
Thanks for your help

I'm still using stock unrooted, but I'm wondering if I root my G Pad only without flashing a custom recovery and ROM, will I still be able to update via OTA like usual or I have to unroot first!

In my case, I have root on stock recovery, and always do the updates via OTA, without any problems, and without losing root after that!

Excellent, it is good to hear that root without changing recovery could work when taking an OTA update. I was only quoting what I had read, not what I had personally experienced. If it were to fail I would assume you could always use the LG Tool and do an upgrade recovery to reimage the entire tablet.
I did the latest OTA update (while drunk) and it updated fine and I still had root when I woke in a panic the next day wondering if I had soft bricked it.

Rock on! Now that's Happy Flashing...
A few months ago my g pad was root and I successful updated it to kitkat via ota update. But recently it showed up another update on the tablet and when I tried update it, it failed giving an error. I think if u are running kitkat and are rooted then ota update won't work.

Thanks for your feedback guys! The G Pad community is awesome! I'm happy I bought this excellent tablet with awesome specs! Nothing can beat its value for money and great design!
I rooted with towelroot and hope I receive future updates! Never thought towelroot would make rooting so easy as with my previous phones, had to do some steps while connected to pc.
