Hello people, after having used my Touch pro 2's GPS function extensively one day on battery, I have realized that the battery's life has shortened by huge amounts of time. It lasts for less than 24 hours now, so I was wondering if I needed a new battery or is there something I can do to restore it back to the previous state. Thanks!
I don't think using the GPS should ruin your battery, just doesn't make sense! Are you sure you shut off the GPS after using it? Are you running any other programmes in the background? Did you flash a new ROM?
My battery started going down twice as fast after swapping to the new "official" Sense 2.5 ROM.
you can try a couple of things that may extend your battery life. try first turning off the auto speakerphone when the phone is face down. i just did this and i can tell a marked difference in just a couple of days. also search battery life reg edits. theres a ton out there here and on ppcgeeks that will definetly help. in general i noticed that when I use GPS the battery drain is pretty high. hope that helps

Using the GPS all day will def drain your battery much faster, especially if you're using aGPS and/or an app that also downloads data to compliment the location info (like google maps). The GPS radio isn't 2-way like the phone or 3G or wifi, but it's still a radio and will give a noticible hit on your batt life when used even moderately, let alone all day.
If you're going to be using GPS a lot, you might want to try different radio roms to see if any of them make a difference in the batt life for you, but I don't know that will make as much of a difference as it does for the phone reception, etc. I would also suggest evaluating various GPS apps, with an eye on relative battery drain
Well guys, thanks for the answers, but that still doesn't solve my problem because I don't use the GPS function often at all, but the battery still drains quickly. Also, there are no programs running in the background. There is however a data connection that is always on and the mail checks for mail every hour. But the thing is I don't want to change any settings to enhance battery life, If it worked fine with the same settings before, why wont it do the same now? Do I need a new battery? Thanks!

Ahhh sorry, I misunderstood, I thought you were just saying it drains faster while you use the GPS like that, not since you used it...I get it now.
That one day of heavy use shouldn't have killed your battery, take a look at THIS thread, others with the same issue/question have posted different things that have worked for them...you might want to give the steps in post #31 a try before thinking about buying a new batt.

You can install " battclock " and you can continuously see what the battery drain actually is during different functions.

Yes, great recommendation! (why didn't I think of that? lol)
And with battclock you can now see your CPU usage in real-time, which is probably one of the best coincidental indicators of battery drain (much more so than memory load, in my opinion)
Hi Dimitri,
I experienced the same problem where my battery life suddenly "shifted" from 48 hours to 12 hours on regular use..
I thought the problem was the battery and I replaced it, this did not help at all..
The only cause of this problem that I can think was loading the official HTC UK 6.5 ROM (1.86.401.0)..

This is exactly what I am experiencing. (This together with not being able to connect the device to PC)
Installed several 6.5 ROMs and suddenly the battery lasts only half a night.
My question is: When the battery is full, when you turn the device off (completely off, not in standby mode!) does the battery drain then?
As far as I see, the battery has only 50% left after a night rest while it is off. So, the only way to keep the battery full is to remove it from the device.
What are your experiences with this?

If you are truely turning it completely off, the battery should NOT drain at all. Have you tried a new battery? I bought a pair of batteries and an external charger on flEabay for like $12. The batteries are good as originals as far as I can tell.

Yes, I have two batteries, even an external charger.
Even when a battery is charged with the external charger, then put in the phone it drains the battery
hey guys can anyone link any of the forum topics to tweak battery life? the only things I have done is the general setting on the phone and the power management options with advance config are there more options and tweaks available?
thanks for all help!

Bright light...I'm also having BOTH of those problems...stock ATT rom. Within the past week my battery life has dropped exponentially, and when I went to sync last night, had not done so in a week or so, I get nothing...none of my PC's will recognize the phone as even being plugged in, let alone sync. I'm thinking maybe an ATT botched update?

So it seems I'm not alone.
Mine is a universal one, no brand whatsoever. I will try to reflash the original (6.1) stock ROM, including radio.
Have you flashed yours already?
@Bright.light @VirtualHomer:
I have the crap battery + no activesync issue.
I'm on the Josh's Black 1.7 ROM. I tried hard reseting, reflashing, going back to the stock ROM, but no improvement.
I have heard that removing the battery overnight is a possible fix for the USB issue (maybe for both?), but I haven't tried yet, will try tonight.
If anyone out there has any potential soultions here... would be great. Right now, I only get 1/2 a day (~6 hours) out of the battery & no hotsync at all (other than BT).
One thing I am pretty sure of: The bad battery life and the activesync issue came up around the same time. Wierd.
Cheers

You are right in assuming that battery life and connectivity issues came at the same time.
I was assuming this was because of a (bad?) flash, or maybe a bad ROM which changed something in a position that should not be changed and which is not restored by flashing another ROM.
A night without battery won't help, I think, because my device has been numerous times without any power and without any battery. However, I will try it again.
Could this be a faulty device? Or a design error?
@Bright.Light
I confirm that a night without the battery solved nothing. I have had my phone on for 5 hours now, taken 5 calls, none of them too long, checked email every 10 minutes (automagically) and I am down to 27% battery.
Also, I confirm that a replacement battery solves nothing, as I have also tried this.
I am planning on returning my device to an ATT store next week for a replacement... We'll see how it goes.
Cheers,
Matt
I'm in the same boat with mine. About two weeks ago the battery just started draining fast. Fast enough that it wouldn't make it to 4-5 hours without being charged. You could watch the battery meter drain. And what was weird was that there was no ROM change or anything that started this. Came out of the blue. Calling Spring tomorrow and getting a replacement is the best solution I can think of.
my phone is ARC S
most of times when battery percent is about %40 suddenly the low battery message appear and show %1 and phone shut down .
i'm sure it's not %0 battery problem (double checked with log and this forum guys!)
and tried most of roms and kernels and no different .
is it from battery and shoud i change it ?
try this battery calibration app. if still same problem occurs, maybe it's really the battery itself got problem.
I personally always do calibration of battery whenever I switched ROM.

I think so too.
Battery calibration apps offer a satisfying placebo effect on battery life.
But when battery acts this weird, you need something more than a placebo.
First you do a Repair with SEUS and if the problem persists, it's most probably hardware related.
If one of your friends has an Arc, you can exchange batteries for a day, to make sure that your battery is actually faulty before buying a new one.
Last but not least, if you do buy a new battery, it'd better be an original one.
Don't trust cheap eBay knockoffs!
Good luck!

Hi, now that i have your attention!
I have cm7.2 democracy on my gio
I barely use it for wifi or gaming now because the battery is S**t.
I had 2.3.6 GB before and battery could take out 2 days on games and music. Now suddenly after switching to cm7.2 i need to charge it twice a day without using any app or game. just some texting like 10, 12.
I use ondemand governor and max freq is 806 min is 245
Also a couple of times i have seen that when my battery is at 30% and charge it then within 5-10 minutes it showed 100% charged. Unplug the charger.
Any suggestions or something on this? I really need an answer guys. Thanks
I can tell you that you can't charge your battery within 10 minutes.
Charge it at least 2 hours, 2.5.

No one has found a solution 'till now?I'll try to use ODIN and go back to stock version, maybe that will help. Has anyone had those battery problems before using a custom ROM?with stock my battery used to last 2 days with games and music etc, now I can only use it for 5 hours without any games or music or internet. It also charges from 0 to 100% in 30 minutes , maybe less. I'm still hoping someone found a solution for this problem because it is useless to have a phone without any battery.
Try to get a new battery because huge draining problem is not caused by roms it caused by battery damage.my battery runs on stock rom over the 10days without using anything but on cm9/10 roms it drains faster but still runs more than 3days for me.
so no one got it?
Thank God I am not the only one here
But guys, I have been using stock GB for an year. Its been only a week on cm7.2 democracy and nightly.
Both have same battery issues and non of this happened in stock
It's not the battery issue.its something else. I'm sure
Have you tried going back to stock version using ODIN?I think that is the ultimate solution before sending my phone to service(I still have warranty).

Try to "recalibrate" your battery; in cwm theres an option "wipe battery stats". some say its nonsense, some say it really helps; i would give it a try.
No idea if theres an option with stock roms, though.....
I'm calibrating now...Will post the result in a while. (Tomorrow i guess)
I still couldn't solve this..I flashed the stock firmware with ODIN and still no luck, I'm starting to think it is a hardware problem, maybe I will send the phone to service now that I have the stock firmware back. Has anyone found any solution?
Hey, i found this article
For the users who like to try out new ROMs very often or by default Android receives updates to Android very often. These updates re constantly pushed to the users to provide the better experience to the users. For those who flash their mobile handset with custom ROM they are advised to charge their handset to 100 % battery life and then proceed with the upgrade processor. That is advised because if you have 50 % of battery life and proceed with firmware update, the new custom ROM will consider 50 % battery life as the full battery stats and this will provide half the battery life then earlier as specified by your phone manufacturer. In those cases you need to go with the battery calibration to gain 100 % battery backup as specified by your provider. There is complete procedure on how you will calibrate your phone battery is mentioned by us and if you would like to make the process very much easier then you can make use of a specially designed application which calibrates your battery. (Battery Calibration)
Okay so i flashed a new custom rom with 100% battery but no luck on battery issue. Its still draining the same.
then i calibrated my battery with this app with my battery at 100% which of course is 50% as said by this article, the app said "Your battery has been calibrated by 6%". Don't know what that means.
ANY HELP? DEVELOPERS PLEASE GUYS!
Try to calibrate it too.It may fix it.

I have the same issue, I am using CM10.1 RC0 by Olddroid but I think my problem is the charger. For the last month I charged my Gio using the usb connection from PC. Now, if I use the charger the battery drains faster than charging with the usb connection method. I am gonna buy a 1500 mAh battery and hope to solve this problem.
Greetings everyone!
I'm facing battery issues using Gimmeabreak 2.0.6, but (maybe) read somewhere that is a cyanogenmod related problem, but I still can't find a way to solve this problem.
I got huge battery drain by screen from (40% to 50%), with auto backlight, 1 min shut off.
Battery is 2 months new, cleaned cache and dalvik cache from recovery, recalibrated battery.
Is a rom related problem or a cyanogenmod problem and there a way to fix this?
Thanks!

Thats an awesome rom by an awesome developer.. If you concerned about battery use Gimmeabreak 1.1.. Best battery backup and most features as 2.0.6... Dirty flash over it...
Thanks, I'll try that later!
I think that for most ROMs, custom ones at least, the biggest battery drain is often from the display/screen. I'm currently using Jellytime 4.2.2 R11 and my battery drain from the screen is ~40% but I still get a decent 15-18 hours of usage daily before recharge. You could try saving battery life by disabling other features such as Google location reporting and turn auto syncs off your accounts
Hope my input could help :good:

The only other things I could think of would be to:
1) Wipe battery stats via recovery
2) Recalibrate the battery (but I see you've already done that)
3) Use the app BetterBatteryStats to find out what apps are keeping your phone "awake" cos it could most probably be just an app causing battery drain.
4) Worse-comes-to-worst, buy a new battery?!

eheh! Done everything, used another battery, still no solution!
I think I'll wait for a stable kit-kat rom!
Same case here
I have the same battery drainage issue. The battery drains from 80-70 or 50-40 in matter of mins or sometimes seconds when the screen is on. I guess its something to do with the CM ROM. I also use Greenify and i've hibernated most of the apps that relies on GCM.
Any good battery saving kernel's for CM10.1?
Wipe battery stats via recovery seems to help a little
It seems like a normal drain, I have the same drain for screen, is pretty big for the battery...

I think you should consider replacing the battery after 2 yrs. It.s cheap, at least on ebay, you can buy one of 2-3000mah. I did so and the problems stopped, but I didn't had such a battery drain. Try a different rom, I.m on JellyTime R10, and I find it most stable and no battery drain.

I'm thinking if it's not because of the battery life or the ROM, maybe it's some apps are using too much resource. I've tracked my CPU usage, one weather app was always using about 20% CPU.

Sorry to bother you, bit which brand and model of batteries do you buy and use?
I already searched many and many opinions, reviews, etc...
And all say the best ones are OEM, Mugen and Anker.
I really want the brand with the best battery life 100% to 0% , bit also the best life and reability to end of life (years) based onde old users that buyed.
And best quality too, this is with temperature sensor and protection overcharche, trust legit laws, that things =D
Which are your recomendations guys/girls?

Brother successfully flashed ota, now phone's software is fully stock including Bootloader.
Till date phone was company stock, it was working fine :crying:
I know my 816 sometimes has to be turned off (and stay off) to charge. Otherwise it'll drain itself dead while plugged in. After a good solid charge it'll work again for a while without having to turn it off for charging. Turned off until fully charged works best. Happens on stock or cm, had the same issue with my evo 3d... Both htc phones.
I've not found any good reason for it, I seldom have much software installed to drain the battery.
@bigsupersquid nd @singhjot0020 I'm using cm13 with lots of apps nd I don't face any battery issue. You guys can try Nitro X sparkle mod and calibrate the battery into Nitro booster although I dnt require it. Greenify is the best app available, nd my personal experience says both lollipop nd mm update uses to much juice as compared to my kk rom still my phone manages to charge quickly on cm13. @singhjot0020 now everything is working fine on stock so flash cm13 once more and flash the microgapps package nd use greenify

Welcome
@rjcool1999 is it that my phone's is 2 years old that's why battery life has reduced that much ?
Someone of my known had the same battery issue, he got a new battery from htc service centre for ₹1400 with 3 months warranty, although same would be taken for ₹300-400 from Karol Bagh. He's saying that now his phone is working fine.
Battery draining issue solved, but charge time's same (appx. 2-3 hrs)

2-3 hrs)

Its obvious that battery performance will reduce with time and if u wish u can get the battery replaced from service centre or from wherever u want nd make sure its a genuine htc battery otherwise it will effect your phone. For the charging time issue the best thing is to buy an asus charger, it has 1.35amp voltage output nd charges the phone very quickly faster than the original htc charger also. You can get it from ebay for 600-650

Okay thanks ?
@rjcool1999 i had replaced the battery with the new one, battery performance is fine, but charging time is increased, even after switching off and charging sometimes charges only 8-10% in 20-25 min.
What would be the cause?

I think that the battery backup is somehow increased from that of 2 year old battery (htc desire 816 a5dwg)
Today only, I've charged phone to full and in 30-35 minutes, battery has fallen to 84% from 100%

Nothing much improved if I compare new battery's performance with my old battery so changing the battery would be a waste of money I think
