Third party camera app until HTC tweaks their firmware? - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm curious what you guys think. I've never used a 3rd party camera app, so I have no idea if they're even worth it.

I don't think that is necessary given the tweaks that are producing good results: capping ISO 200, knocking sharpness down - 1.5 and using medium resolution.

Sorry if this question sounds dumb, but you can either select ISO 200 from the settings screen or from going into manual mode and setting it to 200. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't this take every photo at exactly ISO 200?
How do you "cap" it meaning to allow the camera to select a lower ISO if necessary, but not to exceed 200? DSLRs will do this by selecting auto ISO with a 200 cap, or 400, 800, etc. Am I missing something or are you referring to simply setting the ISO to 200? I saw no setting of "auto with a cap".

Whilst waiting for the next OTA for my HIMA, I spent $3 for DSLR CAMERA PRO from Play Store, and it is giving +15% over the current state of stock camera though..

I will give that app a try. I've also been using Camera FV-5 and by the way, Flavio, the developer of that app says the next update will add the ability to save to an external SD card.
The XDA settings seem to help using the stock camera app. I guess it remains to be seen how much, if any, HTC can do with this sensor via software updates.

You're right.. even increasing all by 0.5 makes a huge impact..

I notice you have sharpness set to a +0.5. I thought the XDA recommendation was to set sharpness at a -1 or -1.5?

Yes, your picture was fine. I guess I'll just play around with sharpness a little to see what I like best. Thanks for your help.

I like the one Made in Sweden. Keep em coming Did you use the table to keep the phone stable?

And about that cap. Can you create a max 200 iso or not ?

Bumping because I'm stuck with an app for this "fine" phone.
I'm sorry but it's the only relevant thread about this problem.

[Q] Camera exposure settings

I have consistent problem with camera while taking shots during shows/concerts. Take a look at the pic, the normal looking one at the top is actually under exposed -2. The bottom is exposure 0. I have the same problem while taking videos. For some reason Samsung gets very sensitive while there is a big differential in the light settings. My friend's LG HD and all iPhones don't have this glare.
Is there a place I can edit and modify exposure settings? I'm on TW Jedi X12, but found all TW roms have that 'problem.'
C'mon, no one has the answer to this basic question/problem?

Hi. I don't know where to edit exposure but, have you tried Camera FV-5? It's a really neat app, and it does a real job. You can adjust the exposure, ISO, shutter controls, white balance, metering and it also display a live histogram while focusing. DSLR controls on your Note2.
Hope it helps!
Thanks for the tip. Great app indeed but no video option. Will be looking to find how to edit the camera app file and make exposure -2 to stick as default.

Do you have auto contrast on? Seems like that may be worth looking into

LOL - it was a smali edit that fixed it. I am away from my laptop so I can't tell you the specifics at the moment, but there is one particular smali file that sets the defaults for a number of things - including exposure value. There were a few places where the exposurevalue:I and camcorderexposurevalue:I were set to 0x0 (i.e. 0 on the exposure setting). Each integer seemed to be equivalent to a half step on that scale (so 0x1 would be an exposure of 0.5, etc.), so where those values were being set I changed them to -0x4 (or -2). If folks are interested I could post just the modified camera apk, and dkb218 if you want the super-specifics shoot me a PM and I'll go into some more detail once I have the files in front of me (this is all being said from memory, which in my case is rather fallible lol).
Post the modded camera.apk when possible and thank you
camera exposure settings
Is there a way to get the exposure value to go lower than -2? I'm trying to take pictures of powerpoint presentations. The Ipads in the audiences are having no problem with tapping on the screen, the camera focuses on the powerpoint slide and it is clearly visible. The Note 8 still whites it out. An exposure of -2 helps but not enough.

I found a good camera for CM11 & SlimKat

Camera KK this looks like it was built with CameraNext and has had the best results from any camera app on Fire Phone I have used. Even with flash!
I attached some unaltered shots outdoors and indoors with lights on and off in my server room.
Free has ads and $1.99 to remove them. So try it and let me know any tips you might find.
Still has flash issue in low light. It's going to take more than an app in the store to resolve the issue.
Nice, good find, flash pic quality looks similar to the ones from Snap Camera... I found the post I was thinking about:

No, but I do.
I tried reducing exposure -1 and that did a little but the flash normal was also pretty good. The pic from the op was in a completely dark room so have to see what low light looks like.

Oohhh very nice, that's a very solid result for basically "default settings"! Will download it and take on a "test drive" tomorrow.
Compared to the pics taken with the new Huawei Mate S, why are we even complaining...
(...added the quote about the Snap Camera settings in my previous post, SC requires a little more work to yield good results...)
HDR freezes the app... sigh...
... and so will * every other app when using HDR. I don't need it, some people can't live without it (looking at you, russy23 ^^).
Camera KK is a solid alternative to Snap Camera or Camera MX, and easy to use because of the stock Android look & feel.

Camera Zoom FX
I tried taking HDR pics using Camera Zoom FX and it didn't crash.
I also found a good camera app that works great on the slimcat rom: cymera. Flash works and great filters are integrated. Couldnt find an option for HDR though...
Could someone try Simple Camera, it went free in the amazon app store today. Didn't know if maybe being from the Amz App Store might make a difference in getting a good flash... I'm back on Stock Fire OS right now so I can't try myself...
Thanks,

Thanks for mentioning (It's free in the US store, in Germany for example, they want 74 cents, hehe)
But sadly, being from the Amzn Store means nothing. A lot of "Devs" (more like "copy paste coder" ^^) publish their apps on multiple portals to make a little more $$$. This app is the exact same version as on Google Play Store.
It's based on OpenCamera, it even creates the "OpenCamera" subfolder in the "DCIM" folder. ^^ Default settings: flash pics are overexposed...
edit: Also tried "Cymera" on the weekend. It's, uhh, very "girly". For people who love filters & gramin' it's a feasible alternative, I'll stick with the "functional" ones, like Camera KK.
Can't you use the camera apk from Fire OS? Or does that require all the Amazon framework, kernel, our HAL stuff?

Correct, source code for the camera HAL is needed. Highly unlikely that it will be released by Amazon.
Oh wait, we're all getting bootloader unlock codes for Christmas when they put the developer version under our trees.
LOL Camera KK force closes on me. Cymera works though.

I bought Snap Camera, it has a good amount of options for people who want to customize their photo settings.
Quality is good, flash pics work too, you can correct the exposure if needed (other apps have this as well, ofc.)
Right now, I'm still using Camera KK (free version), because I just need a simple "shooter", just like the stock android app.
Anyone found a decent camera to take pictures when light is low without using flash? My pictures are always too dark even if I try to change light exposure...

Manual Exposure

So i recently updated my nexus 5 and in the stock camera settings i see an advanced with manual exposure inside. This is not an option in my nexus 5x camera app. Anybody know why? And are there any build.prop tweaks to add this setting?
Thanks

Not a 100% sure but for example I took a couple pitures of a window with sunlight coming thought it, with the setting at 0 all I could see was light coming throught the window (completly white) and when i lowered it down to -1 there was less light and i could see the fence behind the window. So my nexus 5 has this setting but the 5x doesnt.

Awesome, thanks for the info man! Yup I do know that there are 3rd party apps capable of doing this but I just find it quite weird that the nexus 5 stock camera app has this setting but the 5x's stock camera app doesnt, thats all.
Nexus 5x need a lg g4 camera porting!

Has it been fixed? (yet?)

Unlock longer shutter speeds

Hello everyone,
Long story short, just bought nexus 5x, I have developed a few kernels in past for various devices, and I am little bit disappointed with n5x camera.
Phone does make awesome pictures, but it lacks longer shutter speeds, I would like to unlock it. Some people say that it is hardware limited, some that software, so here I am asking you how is it for real, and please, answer with any arguments, proofs, I would like to avoid guessing.
I would like to know if there is any sense in trying to unlock it and digging through source code.
Cheers
I managed to take photos with 1 s shutter speed with L Camera.

Nexus 5 hardware is capable of capturing photos at 0.86s shutter speed (5x probably too). And this app uses this capability.

I confirm the with L-Camere 0.3 is possible to have a shutter time of 1s (if I select 1/1,2) and the night photos are incredible
I asked to ProShot developer if is possible to implement this feature on his great app. I hope that is possible....
Looks like HTC 10 has same camera sensor and it's camera app allows to use 2s shutter speed, unfortunately, none of htc camera app versions let's me go manual on our nexus.
Also Xiaomi YI 2 action camera has it, and it allows up to 30s while taking pics. So i guess I/we would have to edit camera libs. I also emailed lcamera creator but I don;t think that he will respond.

screen resolution adjustment

Is there any way to port over options to adjust the screen resolution I'm surprised this tablet does not have it already the tab S2 had the options in the settings to lower the resolution to save power and higher it when watching videos. I was wondering if there was any way to put this over and install it on the Tab S3 or if it has been done already. Thanks

How do you turn off the CPU limit ?

They look weird and compacted, almost as a 4:3 format, instead of 16:9
The stock 2048 x 1536 puts it in a really weird aspect ratio.
