[Q] Wifi issue & more - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I got a T-Mobile Note 2, prepaid (so no T-Mo data, normally wifi data only) from a friend...
The device worked initially, including wifi. At some point the device had issues, and wifi stopped working, so no web, no play store. Removed the gmail account and couldn't sign back in because there is no internet connectivity even though the wifi shows as connected.
I know there are bootloader/wifi issues with the Note 2, and I need assistance on what I need to do to get the device back to rooted stock/custom rom. There are a lot of dead links around, and I am also not sure what is safe to flash because I don't know the history of the device.
As I received it:
SGH-T889
Android 4.1.1
Baseband T889UVBMD1
Kernel 3.0.31-598701 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Nov 30 19:11:38 KST 2012
Build JRO03C.T998UVALK8
I thought I needed to upgrade to 4.3 and flash a wifi fix, but that didn't work.
Now:
Android 4.3
Baseband T889UVUCMK7
Kernel 3.0.31-2085660 [email protected] #1 Tue Nov 19 16:53:20 KST 2013
Build JSS15J.T889UVUCMK7
The OS loads and I can send and receive calls, but I cannot do anything with data even though wifi is connected... can't log in to gmail, play store, web, etc.
Please let me know what I can flash to get the device back to a rooted stock or custom rom with working wifi. Thanks.

Flashing the Wi-Fi patch on top of the 4.3 official boot loader may have been part of the issue. Try to Odin flash the 4.3 root66 ROM the MrRobinson published. See if that helps.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement

Thanks Coug76, I flashed MrRobinson's 4.3 root66 and I still cannot sign in to google and have no connectivity even though wifi is connected.
Anything else you recommend?

Have you tried several WiFi access points (AP)? Is the device able to see the APs?

OK got it working...
Only tried wifi (DHCP) at home because it always worked on this and all devices...
Connected device to wifi (DHCP) at work, internet worked but no play store.
Device still didn't work at home using DHCP... changed to static IP, then wifi and play store both started working.
Coug76, thanks for your help!

No Network after OTA update of JellyBean

Hi,
I recently bought Galaxy Nexus, it came with ICS 4.0.4 and worked fine after I put my SIM cards into it. After some while it popped up new software available and I went ahead with it (OTA). It got upgraded to Jelly bean (4.1.1) but my Mobile network stopped working, it no network available. I tried manually selecting the network but in vain. I see IMEI number but Mobile Network state is unknown.
Also kernel version shown is 3.0.31-g6fb96c9 [email protected])#1SMP PREEMPT Thu Jun28 11:02:39 PDT and build number is JR003C.
What could have gone wrong here? I use GSM network (2G).
If I have to root the device can I use install JB again or I have to back to ICS?
Thanks
Vishal

Jellybean OTA Update

Hi,
I have a Nexus and I am still waiting for my OTA update
for Jellybean while my friend just recently bought a
Nexus S that came with Android 4.0.4 out of the box and
the moment I connected it to WiFi it automatically
updated the device to 4.1.1 Jellybean. Why have I not
been able to get my 4.1.1 Update?. the 4.0.4 update on my
phone was done automatically OTA, so I don't understand
why is my device not updating to 4.1.1?.
here is my system information.

Thanks.
You have a yakjuzs version, which gets updated by samsung not google. Im guessing it has rtl support in the menus (arabic)
You have two options:
1. Wait for the update from samsung, going to take two months or less to hit your phone. Or
2. Flash a yakju image from google, your bootloader needs to be unlocked. You will be the first to receive updates from google, jellybean has rtl support ( arabic menus) but unlocking the bootloader and flashing a stock image will wipe your phone and your mass storage.
Its been discussed a lot here in the forums, you can follow any guide to unlock your bootloader and flash a stock image. If you know what are you doing, you can use a tool kit to get the job done.

[Q] New Nexus Problem

Hey guys! First off i just wanted to say hi to my fellow nexus owners. I just got mine today and i can't wait to start using it. Here's the problem. When i bought the Nexus the previous owner upgraded it to 4.1.2 since it was rooted. The issue with what he did is that there is no google account on my phone. This means no google play, gmail, google waller etc. To make it worse i went to the rooting app (super Use I think?) and clicked unroot. I thought it would unroot my phone and all the google related apps would come back. They didn't and i deleted the rooting app I am now stuck with a rooted phone with no rooting app and i can't get any apps including marketplace. I know i'm supposed to flash a rom that will have google but the problem is that all the tutorials ask to make sure you have one of the 10 - 15 build numbers and phone models the phones come with. But my phone doesn't have them because it was rooted. What do i do?

do you have any basic flashing skills? and which carrier?
I have the basic skills. I've did it on my old galaxy ace. But when i did it everything was on the factory defaults. I'm worried i might mess up because he already rooted and flashed a rom on the phone. I just need some instructions on what i should do first. I was thinking i should re-root my phone and then just apply another, more reliable rom. Maybe the 4.1.1. Another problem is that on the tool kit there is no option for 4.1.2 and the weird build number i have.

Just return the device to factory settings by flashing the Google images. I'd never trust the firmware that someone else put on a phone.

Thanks for writing to us here at XDA Assist. Just to make sure, you have the T-Mobile Galaxy S4 (SGH-M919), is that right?

Bacon taste good, but it's not that helpful. Lol.
You probably tried towelroot and don't work with kitkat, you may have to flash stock firmware and then use Chainfire's auto root in general section to get root.
Then you can start over.

XDA Assist (where this thread originated) isn't a general technical assistance section, the purpose of our small team is to direct the questions to the appropriate device sub-forums so that people like yourself (who are familiar with the devices) can take over and lend a helping hand to those who need it.
I'm familiar with your guidance in these matters, just adding a little humor to the thread.
No harm meant.
Besides I'm a BIG fan of BACON.

Cool, thanks for lending some assistance to these people in need.

hey pp i admit i did try towelroot but as soon as i tried it it said your device cannot be rooted at this time ( or to that effect) lol il be honest i cant remember what i used but it was a server bassed application thats all i remember my main concern is i wont be able to get it sim unlocked as desperatly need to get off t-mobile lmao many thanks mad
Well metro Sim card will work with t-mobile without unlocking sim, so that's an option.
But flashing stock firmware will fix whatever is borked so you have a working phone to start fresh.
Chainfire's Cf autoroot is foolproof with Odin, at that stage you can simply unlock.
