I'm running the latest pre-rooted firmware. I understand the USB storage issues (I think ). When I insert a USB stick formatted as ex-fat which contains a TV show which is properly named, etc. the AFTV gives me the option to reformat the stick as FAT. I cancel. The AFTV then lists no external storage. Stickmount recognizes and mounts the device. Kodi also recognizes the device but does not see the content whether I specify local, TVDB or none. When I remove the USB stick and try to mount it on my Mac the device is now unrecognized. When I open Disk Utility the content has been erased so clearly the AFTV has does something to the stick.
Any ideas?

I guess the next question would be can I revert to an older version of the pre-rooted firmware. I have the full boot unlock.

Have you partitioned your drive?
8,32 corresponds to a 32gb drive
8,16 corresponds to a 16gb drive

I've found the best way to deal with external storage on firetv is to use an app called ADM download manager, simply goto settings and select your drive and you can download content straight to and stream from external storage.
*I brought a 32 GB USB and I formatted it by (Fat32) I attached the formatted USB to a OTG Adapter and my fire stick and the Fire Stick (software version is 77/3027) the (Serial Version G070VM1190450T03. ) The Fire Stick doesn't recognize the USB Drive in the EZ File exploder. Is there anything that I can do to fix this problem? Do I have the right Firestick for this method?* Thank You

I have tried that option 1 errors out with
Error: java.lang.IllegalStateException: java.util.concurrent.TimeoutException: Thread Binder:614_15 gave up waiting for partitionMixed after 180000ms
Option 2 worked but when doing pm move- command it never works
I managed to get further but keep getting error -6 when trying to move to usb device
Edit. I got it working as far as storage and moving apps over on a 32gb usb drive from 2010. It does not auto put to usb drive though

What model are you using 4k mantis? Is it to run kodi on externak drive/USB?
Try using advanced download manager and using that to access automatically

Not sure but all my firesticks have a bug it seems amazon refuses to fix that when fresh formatted and leaving it on the storage goes to very low space quickly. So far with the same apps installed I got bit more on 1 stick that been unplugged longer. Both are 4k firesticks. Not sure what version. I think gen 1 since i dont think gen 2 4k firestick ever came out.
One of my usb drives might just not work for firestick as playing downloaded videos from it lag.
I have 2 firesticks with USB adapters. Recently both firesticks refused to recognize any USB flash drive (I'm using VLC media player). The same flash drive I have been using for a long time. I tried reformatting the drive (FAT32) but no luck. I suspect that a software update has caused the problem. Is there a known way to roll back the software and prevent updates?

I am having the same issue. USB storage was working fine but after update system is not recognising the storage. I can see the usb stick and copy files using adb so it is not a hardware issue.
Hi everyone. I have 2 firesticks (lite and 3rd gen). I tried to expand storage on both with remote ADB shell. I used the same method and succeeded on one of them (lite). Remote ADB shell in the 3rd gen stick refused to recognize usb flash drive. Does anybody know why, please?
I have the same problem firestick 4k 3rd gen fully updated, tried two otg cables, many different drives and will not recognise it through xplorer, adb console or system settings. Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks for the reply but I have tried all of the above suggestions and nothing works.
I have read every thread online and carried out every instruction and now I am at a dead end, very frustrating.
The stick is on fireOs 6.2.9.4
Thank you for taking the time to reply carolljeny223 much appreciated, I've contacted customer support and waiting reply.
I think you have to cut the power to the firestick , say for about 30 seconds.
I found this out with my firestick running on sofware 7.
When I put the USB memory stick in the port the firestick recognised it. A message prompt came up with an option to format the usb stick either for (a) Apps, or (b) Storage e.g., movies, documents, etc.
Only when the firestick recognises the memory stick will it then show USB storage in the My Firestick settings.
Ensure your USB memory is formated to fat32 on your computer if your memery stick is 32gb or below. Anything about format it to exfat32.
I have an 32g usb stick plug to the firestick, it was formatted to be internal storage. It is working, apps go to usb, and working, but I am not able to read or write with xplorer, es plorer. So I cannot read content, or write files. I try another usb stick, same problems. Look like an OS problem. any suggestions.?
Fire TV Stick 4K Max
Fire OS: 5.2.7.6 (659654620) - sloane rom
Apps: Total Commander, ES File Manager, Kodi
Hard Drive: Passport 2TB
About a week ago, I was running 5.2.1.1 for a few years and with Paragon NTFS+ and didnt have any issues. I removed my Passport drive and then updated it with content and plugged it back into my USB powered hub and my Fire TV2 didnt see the drive. Its happened like this once before and a simple disconnect and reconnect fixed the issue but not this time. I have uninstalled a number of different Paragon NTFS apps (from plugins, to different versions), Stick Mount 3.50, NTFS Mounter, and my FireTV2 no longer sees the drive. I thought I would upgrade the ROM on my FireTV2 and have done this as now I am on the above rom and the same issue is happening. The OS does indicate the drive isnt FAT32 so its seeing the drive but not mounting it despite installing these different apps.
I have enjoyed the Fire TV2 for a number of years with no issues and for the life of me, cant get it to read NTFS external drives.
I have tested the drive in my desktop and laptop, both see the drive without any issues. I have tried different ports on the USB hub and nothing is working. The same hub can read FAT32 without any issues but I have files that are 10GB+ and require NTFS. I have reformatted the drive and copied content over again, ran disk defrag on the drive and the Fire TV2 for whatever reason isnt working.
If anyone has any suggestions, I am all ears...
hello guys I'll explain the problem: I have a small usb hub where I connect the fire stick and a pendrive. I formatted the pendrive in FAT32 and it works fine, the problem is that when I remove it and connect it to the PC it is seen as an unformatted volume and is not detected by windows, I have to reformat every time.
I therefore assume that the fire stick does some operation on the pendrive.
Do you have the solution?
Thank you
Are you formatting the flash drive with your PC or FireTV?
If the FireTV formats the flash drive for internal storage (Android apps), it uses Ext4 which a PC won't natively recognize.

Thx for replay.
format from pc, I use the pendrive in firestick with retroarch, an old console emulator, it may be that retroarch when it scans the pendrrive in search of games does some operation, but certainly does not delete the files I put inside. Opening ES File Explorer on the Firestick recognizes the pendrive, but inside there is a .Android folder and then the files I put.

When you FAT32 format the drive, are you using 4096bytes allocation unit size. I have noticed that using some higher values causes issues.
Other than that I'm not sure. Is the flash drive only unreadable in your PC after using it with RetroArch, ES Explorer, or anytime you plug it in to the Fire Stick?

unreadable anytime i plug it into the Fire Stick, Just connect the pendrive to the firestick and without doing any operation, I disconnect it and it is already unreadable
That's odd. Does it make a difference if you FAT32 format the drive with the Fire Stick instead of the PC?
Plug a non-FAT32 drive (eg exFAT) in to the FireStick, a pop-up will ask you to format the drive, select format for external storage.

yes, this way everything works fine, you need to format the pendrive from firestick. Thank you very much
