Just wondering if anybody else is experiencing a lack of selection in the "Theme Market" via Samsung. It seem as if the only themes available are somewhat girly, would also like to know if there is another way to apply themes through other means if possible.

The themes are handled in the system directory. It looks like it swaps an apk and applies the theme. Without root it would be impossible to install your own themes since this directory is read-only.

Hey guys, just made this theme, for personal usage really, and decided to share.
If anyone wants it converted to another rom (ADP, ect) just ask.

EDIT: it also has a custom boot screen, that i think you'd find particularly interesting
EDIT 2: forgot to add disclaimer!
as usual, you can not hold me responsible for any damages or ect.. i have tried and tested the update.zip 5 times before distributing, and it has worked each time. if you experience any troubles, please feel free to ask here (although you shouldn't encounter any!)
EDIT 3: updated with compressed version [link already updated]
I really like the fact that it uses the default icons for the apps! Then new apps downloaded don't look out of place at all. Thats one of the main reasons I don't have a theme right now but you may have just changed my mind! Thanks for this

Same here. I used all the default icons, i only changed the home screen really. I think the other themes are really over doing the changes.

I don't mind all the changing of all the little things but the apps kinda bugs me. Maybe I'm just ocd like that but I just like things to match & flow together. I have bettercut now so it helps but its not the same.
Very well put
Have you installed the theme to your phone yet? (just curious to see feedback on the boot screen haha)

Actually I just bought dxTop so I don't know that I'll be installing themes anytime soon. I think I'll try my hand at skinning that & then see what happens from there. Would it be alright if I tried skinning it using your theme? I really like the blue
Be my guest
Sweet thanks!
no problem

I was wondering, I like your "android root" screen but is there anyway to keep your theme (which is great) and get the glowing robot one back?
I've updated the original post with a link to an update with the standard logo for you

Would you mind creating an ADP1 1.1h version?

Hello,
I just updated my SGS2 to 2.3.4 today and unfortunately, I seem to have lost the part that I liked the most about the messaging app: the ability to change themes. I really hate the way it looks now and would really like the plain look of one of the themes back.
Is it possible to push the older themable messaging app. to this new firmware and get the theme functionality back?
If anyone has the messaging app that supports themes, could you please pull it and attach it here so I can give it a try?
Many thanks.
+1 I miss the black theme as it goes sooo much better with my current rom. I'd be interested to know if this can be done
True. Let's see if someone can help with this
I use GoSmsPro and it has a few themes
I understand that there are alternatives available but I wish to have the stock messaging app back which supports themes I would really appreciate it if someone could pull it from their phone.
I'd like to have the stock messaging app with themes too (I wa addicted to the "funny" style..., I'm a dumbass I know...)
There should be SOMEONE with the older app
Here's what I tried:
I tried downloading an older KE7 firmware from 18th May and extracted the Mms.apk/odex and MmsProvisioning.apk/odex files and pushed them to /system/app and tried rebooting but that didn't change anything
If I try INSTALLING the new Mms.apk file it says Application not installed even if I try remounting the system as rw
Discussed before in this thread, no joy so far:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1177494
In that thread, this guy said he had a solution, but never posted the .apk:

@Cygnuss - you've posted about GoSMSPro in both threads. You're missing the point - as dexter said last time:

There HAS to be a solution
Yes theres a solution, after every new rom install i flash with cwm this mms fix and it restores the message themes.

Thank you so much! You're the man!
For those of you who had trouble with odexed/deodexed, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159920
And get Darky's odex->deodexed converter and install that first using DarkyRom2 Tool (available free on market)
so annoying. i want my old themes back (especially the black one). i'm guessing the app got updated, so i'd be keen to just get the them part back in...
any solution to this?
i want it tooo!!!
there's nothing like this!!
I tried the solution posted above but once you go depdexed you lose hardware acceleration in the browser and it gets laggy as hell. I guess I'm gonna have to keep on hoping for an odex solution
You could go back to 2.3.3 , really what will you be missing out?

Hey, you could try to install my mms.apk themed black...give it a try if you still didnt find a solution, here is the link :

Still new with Android, but have a question. How do I change the dialpad colors?
Whose idea was it to put blue numbers on a black background and expect it to be read in sunshine?
Any simple way to change this?
Just found out that JB is the same, but no themes yet.
umm, well I assume you have stock... if your not rooted all you can hope for is a theme or a dialer app in the market, if you are rooted you can unpack the apk and theme it the way you like (or ask someone to do it for you) or try another rom with colors you prefer

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I do have root and have tried numerous roms. Found a solution of sorts with a new dialpad app. I've got a lot to learn af far as this stuff goes.
I've been trying to figure this out, but being that Android is so modular, is it possible to theme easily like it is on the iphone? With winterboard, I was able to just restart the app and the images would take effect. I haven't found if this is possible with Android. Maybe I'm missing something.
I've tried Morphology and I could do it that way, but every change I make I have to re-flash that part.
Is there an easier way?

Not really if you wanna do it piece by piece. Morphology is about the best you'll get.
you're other option is to get themes from here or the market which can be apply with the theme chooser.

So the apps don't use resources from systemui, or a central location i'm assuming?
Well, that's the question. I'm gathering some credits trough Google Rewards and i'm pretty interested in buying the Substratum extension made for Android Oreo. But first i want to know if someone has tried the app in this phone to avoid some useless purchase. Something that i miss from my old Moto X Style is the customization. I could root this thing to do it without any plugin but so far i'm not interested in rooting and all that.

I didn't find any replacements..
I think if You dont wanna root Your phone You should buy Andromeda rootless backend - support devs, because it works.
I'm currenly using the Andromeda... It does work but with some errors n doesn't work well with all themes...
I've got something to show..
Thanks guys. I'll buy it anytime soon then.
I have been using it on 0.8 Verizon edition with no probs, sais oreo theme is a pretty good dark theme.
I am using it. Everything was working until the most recent security update for oreo. Although it may have been me updating my theme, which i did after the security update.
I can't stand all the ads on this phone. Ugh.
I use it with stock Oreo 8.0.0. No issues.
Black theme (forgot the name but it is the most popular one) is nice for the notification bar and settings menu.
Which theme is that?

Its working fine, I'm experiencing no lags.
Black looks beautiful and being AMOLED saves battery also.
Notification issue
The Default Dark Theme works except for some notifications that keep having dark text on dark background (see first notification on the attached image). Is there any way to fix that? My device is not rooted.

I am currently using a pitch black theme that is called Sai's Oreo Theme: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=baka.sai.oreo&hl=en
I`ve been using Default Dark from F-Droid. Basically switches the Phones/Contacts/Settings/QSettings etc to dark.
The app has one annoyance to it cause you got to connect the phone to the pc if you want to use substratum.
The good stuff is that applied theme survives reboot, so it`s not so bad in the end.
