My mother ordered a Kindle Fire HD 7 directly from Amazon in germany.
I think this device is the newest version and she wants me to install the Google Play Store on it, since she needs Apps that are not available on the Amazon Market.
Is that possible with the newest device?
It uses Fire-OS 4.1.1
I would really appreciate any help that is possible, since i have never even touched this device before and know absolutely nothing about it.

I want to use the New Yorker magazine app that is exclusively on the kindle fire, and I want to use it on my Galaxy Nexus. I put the apk on my phone and installed it, but when I open it, it forces closes. Is there any way to get this app (from the kindle fire) to work on Jelly Bean?
I had the same problem with the Wired Magazine app. Subscribed.
Considering how much stuff Amazon has changed on the Kindle Fire, I wouldn't be surprised if the apk has been made specifically for it and won't work on any other device.
Amazon apps generally do not work on stock Android. Amazon forked Android for it's own purposes and does not belong to the Open Handset Alliance which stipulates how apps should be coded to ensure uniformity across Android devices.
Wired version 2.7 and higher run on JB. You need to make sure you have amazon app store installed. Also, buy the free wired magazine app from amazon (it will be listed as incompatible but buy it anyway).

I am purchasing a demo Kindle Fire HD and would like to root it and install a custom ROM, specifically one like i have on my original Kindle Fire, the MoDaCo custom ROM. The reason? I like having access to all my Amazon purchases along with my Play Store purchases? Main reason I need both is I purchased Order & Chaos Online from the Play Store and the Amazon store and only the one from the Amazon Store works on the original Kindle Fire, the one from the Play Store installs but crashes to desktop, no matter what ROM I installed. That is why I must have both so I can install the Kindle Fire version from the Amazon store.
Is there a MoDaCo for Kindle Fire HD 8.9 or something similar?

Short answer NO. Long answer, the primary development for the HD 8.9 appears to have fallen on the very capable shoulders of Hashcode. At the present time his work is in early Beta, No sound, No camera, other issues besides requiring you jump through a few hoops to install. I would recommend that you root your Kindle, and live with that for the short term.

It is a demo unit so I will need a ROM, any suggestions?

You have two choices, stock OR CM 10.1 without sound, hdmi and 4g.
So stock is full featured?

LOLOLOL... OH God... oh man... If that was a joke, it was funny one.
Just updating this thread as Hascode's build is getting its way near perfection by the day.
Camera, audio, MIC and Bluetooth are working now.
It is not complete yet for sure but is definitively a daily driver and way better than Amazon stock.

I bought a few Kindle Fire games through Amazon.com without actually owning a Kindle Fire, thinking that I could somehow install them to any old Android device. I'm curious if I'd be able to install and play those games on the Fire TV, or does Amazon restrict it to apps and games made specifically for the Fire TV? Does rooting and the ability to side load change any of this? I suppose I'd still need to somehow install the Amazon Fire apps through the Amazon App Store. Thanks for any help.

It should work. The apps normally will install on any device you have installed the app store on. If they don't show up in your purchased/downloaded app list you may have to sideload them.
Has anybody looked into a workarround to enable the Sky Go apk to work on Amazon Fire TV Devices?
The app can be installed on Amazon Tablets and other Tablets/Phones and work fine however when it comes to Amazon TV devices it gives an error.
I assume this is due to some sort of Licencing issue or DRM - but it would be nice for those who have it to still use it.
Which brings me arround to the first question, has anybody looked into tweaking the Amazon Fire TV to allow the app to work?
Edit: It is worth noting the German version has been patched before <https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/app-no-root-skygo-for-fire-tv.3776919/> but Im specifically talking the UK version.
