Anyone Test TMo version with Verizon SIM? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

It worked for Nexus 6, I wonder for S6 and S6 Edge.
Someone please test?

I am 99.9% positive this will not work. Every Nexus 6 sold was identical in terms of carrier compatibility, the only difference between devices was color and storage capacity, same thing for the most part with iPhones. Samsung has historically never done one model for all carriers, instead they choose to make each version specific to that carriers frequencies/technology. The Tmobile S6 would only ever connect to Verizons Band 4/2/5 LTE in a perfect situation but most likely it will just reject the sim all together. A Tmobile S6 will work on ATT when unlocked since they share a significant amount of frequencies and are both GSM and vice versa. If you want a phone that works on Verizon and Tmobile 100% your only 2 options are the Nexus 6 and the iPhone.

The Nexus wasn't SIM locked, the S6 is.

I don't think Verizon will take a non-Verizon device and hook it up to its service.

Nexus 6
iPhone 6 non-verizon branded work.
You must have active verizon sim already for it to work.

I will try it with the Galaxy S6 after I receive it tomorrow. My colleague has Verizon, so I will just plug in his SIM to test if the service works with the T-Mobile Galaxy S6 on Verizon network.

Here is what I've found out. I am in NYC, so the radio bands availability may differ depending on your location. I was able to receive a stable 20mhz bandwidth band 4 LTE data service. Text messaging works perfectly fine, but the call doesn't. When I made a call, the phone dropped the signal completely (the signal came back on when I pressed "end call" button).

You can by an unlocked S6 on Mobicity. They said it will work on Verizon...don't believe them! I called and chatted with Verizon and they said that they do NOT allow other phones on their network...period. You can use their Verizon branded phones on other networks such as AT&T or T-Mobile, but not the other way around.

i spoke to a vzw rep and it is possible. the catch is it must be an unlocked phone. if it belong to a carrier vzw will not activate it. this sort of explains why the LTE data was working but the voice wasn't. I wonder if I can get an international version and activate it on vzw now.

I don't think the TMO variant has the right CDMA bands to operate properly on VZW. That would explain why you had LTE data but no voice as voice calls would be routed over CDMA. I'm honestly surprised you got the device running on VZW at all as it is SIM locked to T-Mobile.

No VoLTE Yet....

Because the S6 and S6 Edge do not ship with VoLTE out of the box (later update at some point)... this means the Verizon variant will need the CDMA radio's in order to do voice calls for now.... however once the VoLTE update for the phone (whether by T-Mobile OTA or Samsung OTA Update) then you should be able to successfully place calls on Verizon via the T-Mobile phone since it utilizes the LTE radios to send voice as data... so the short answer is no it won't work on verizon unless you install something like hangouts and make wifi calls/ data calls with the Verizon SIM in or maybe even Google Voice to place calls... might be worth a try using your buddy's SIM in your phone :good:

VoLTE is enabled out of the box however VZW won't provision the device for these services as it is an unrecognized device. You might be able to force it on with the web portal but no promises. That's how it's done with the nexus. If it doesn't work that way it won't work at all as the fallback CDMA won't be available to the device. Consequently you'll be prone to dropping calls as the device won't be able to transition to CDMA in low coverage areas even if you can get VoLTE up and running.
If you don't believe me that VoLTE is enabled:

Verizon reps have heads up their behinds.... basically you need to get someone that understands what you are wanting to do instead of reading the "flip book" answers that they have "canned" for not-so-intelligent reps. that do not take their jobs seriously.
Here is what actual facts with VZW with non-supported VZW devices:
1. VZW Features such as enhanced voicemail, VZW messaging, etc. will not work
2. It is somewhat a "trick" to activate a new SIM card for a non-supported device... because VZW requires a IMEI number for a phone to activate that must match the size of SIM card being activated... for example for a nano-sim it must activate to a nano-sim phone IMEI & not to a micro-sim phone IMEI... VZW has "dummy" IMEI's setup to support non-supported device activation... they just activate the SIM to the "dummy" IMEI for the correct size SIM then once activated, as soon as it is placed into a phone, the IMEI updates to Verizon....
3. It does for most part "lock out" changes to your plan... however, if you don't call into them to have them "look" into something on your account then they will not revoke any discounts....
I have sold a number of non-supported VZW devices to people that are on VZW.... and this is compiled from their experiences and my own... basically nowadays... nanosim is going to in everything until something smaller comes out, so once you have a nanosim that is activated you are set, especially with Verizon.....
I am curious though with whomever placed the Verizon SIM into a TMO phone since the phone's from TMO are suppose to be SIM-Locked....

nope your right... my bad... VoLTE is enabled out of box... your right though, if it is already provisioned to a line it may work... however like you said, you will probably drop calls like a madman... it would be nice if everyone made their phones like the Nexus 6.... that would be "true" carrier freedom..... :good:

It's unlocked. I do not wish to have Device Installment Plan where I have to pay certain amount each month. I just paid the total cost of the phone up front, so I don't have to make additional payments. Since I was a T-Mobile subscriber for 7 years and I paid the total cost of the device up front, the customer representative provided me with the Unlock code for the device.

You're lucky if that's what happened. Their policy states they won't unlock the device unless you've had service for a month and a half. Business users are 14 days.

The customer service rep did mention this policy but the rep said that he has the ability to waive the policy under special circumstances: 7 years subscriber, device paid up front, and account in good standing.

[Q] Galaxy S3 Bad ESN

Hello friend
i am from India and i want to know that bad esn at&t sgs3 can work in India with any other gsm network
AT&T doesn't use ESN.... They use IMEI, it's GSM...
When it is put as bad imei number it won't work any where in the world no matter what company

Verizon is CDMA... I doubt there are many if any CDMA carriers over there, and if there is, they probably won't activate just anything... Has to be clean ESN and in their database... A GSM phone from the states or Europe I can just about guarantee it will work over there even if a company has it reported as stolen IMEI... You'll need to get the phone unlocked...
Us cellular s3 can this also work in india

He's mistaken on the way the carrier's work... and you may be too... Bad ESN phones won't work any other provider... They are CDMA phones. They do not take SIM cards and require OTA activation... The ESN must be in their database as their phone and clean...
IMEI pertains to GSM phones, and uses a SIM card. A stolen European GSM phone will work over here and vice-versa... It's only reported stolen with THAT carrier, just put your SIM in and it works...
His original question clearly states that he either does not know what he is asking, or just needed info, so I tried to clear that up for him... AT&T does NOT have an ESN, is NOT a CDMA carrier, and despite being reported stolen with AT&T will work with his SIM card, if he is in fact GSM, and judging by his location, his IS...

I would like to see this world-wide agreement pertaining to GSM phones being blacklisted world-wide...
blacklisted at&t phone will work anything other then at&t,h2o and red pocket. It will work on t-mobile, simple mobile (in usa) and anywhere else in world. (I tested it that's how know)
Blacklisted T mobile will work anything other then t-mobile, simple mobile. It will work on at&t, h2o, red pocket (in usa) and anywhere else in world. (I tested it that's how know)
Verizon s3 will work with at&t, t mobile and as world gsm phone as well. Data might work on some on edge, some on 3g depending on frequency. Jelly bean update made it unlocked gsm phone. as soon as you put sim other then verizon it will ask to change mode to global and will work on gsm voice no problem. I tried today with cracked screen verizon s3 that i bought and it works.

That being said, All GSM carriers are working on shared database of blacklisted phones, so in few months or few years, Blacklisted gsm phones won't work at all on other gsm carrier.
Not sure if this said database will be used globally or not. That would be really bad.

Will T-Mobile S4 work on AT&T S4 LTE and HSPA networks and vice versa?

Hello,
I'm in a dilemma where I have personal T-Mobile service, and AT&T service with my work. I want to purchase the variant of the S4 that will have the best compatibility with both networks (including HSPA, HSPA+, LTE). T-Mobile LTE has also already gone live in my market.
It seems the international i9505 support's T-Mobile's LTE bands (AWS 1700 / 2100 MHz LTE)
However, AT&T's variant (SGH-i337) supports AT&T's LTE (LTE 700 MHz Class 17) and possibly the additional T-Mobile bands.
Can anyone confirm if the international model also supports AT&T's LTE 700 MHz Class 17 Network?
Thanks!
The T-Mobile version is pentaband. I cannot confirm LTE, but it should pick up AT&T bands. T-Mobile does use 850/1900 in some areas, primarily to support older iPhones, and you should be able to roam on their frequencies. The AT&T version does not support T-Mobile bands (AWS, also used by some Canadian carriers).
The T-Mobile version supports all of atts bands (including LTE) but adds support for AWS HSPA and LTE.
If you use an att S4 on T-Mobile, you will be locked to 1900 PCS only. No LTE, EDGE in most places, HSPA in refarm markets (but not DC-HSPA+ which means you will average 3-7 down)
It is much more advantageous to get the T-Mobile version than the att version as they are identical otherwise.

Save the critical bootloader difference.
Adam's teardown shows that the AT&T and T-Mobile versions are literally the same hardware. So it should be possible to unlock AWS on AT&T's model (might be as simple as flashing the T-Mo modem/firmware, as on the Note 2).
Thanks for all the responses. I bought the T-Mobile S4 and was happy to learn it is the pentaband variant. Since I travel abroad and also own an AT&T SIM through work.. it looks like I made the right choice!

Hi!
Did it work with AT&T SIM? I'm assuming that the sim is locked but I was am wondering if T-Mobile (If you buy at full prize) makes the device SIM unlocked or not?
If this is the case, TMo would be a smarter choice right now to use in AT&T to avoid that bootloader BS.

yeah tmobile phones are network locked, and if you are doing the monthly pay plan, tmobile wont give you the unlock code until it is paid off.
im the kind of person who likes to unlock my phone regardless of me leaving or staying with a specific network or not.
i chatted with tmobile and they wouldn't give me my code, so i went to cellunlocker (dot) net and got my code in ~7 hours.

The question I have is that if you plan to use the phone on AT&T's network all of the time, will AT&T add the T-Mobile's phone IMEI to your AT&T account so it reflects the correct device on your line for account and possible insurance purposes?

Its not a native at&t device so you won't get any help from at&t or Asurion. Its not even worth keeping the device insurance if you arent using an at&t branded device. Huge waste of money.

My plan is to just purchase Tmobile version of S4 (no contract), then purchase unlock code, then purchase squaretrade warranty ... Then use an AT&T sim.
My only question is, one you purchase the sim unlock code from a different company, will you purchase again if you (for example) flash CM, AOSP Roms - that includes modem firmware updates?

You'd be surprised. There is apparently some confusion with T-Mobile as to what exactly their unlocking policies are. I purchased my S4 from T-Mobile's website at full retail price. According to their website (support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1588) if you purchase the phone at full retail price, they will unlock it provided only that you have an account in good standing.
However, when I tried to get it unlocked yesterday the rep I was chatting with online said I had to have service active for at least 40 days (I am switching over to T-Mobile from Sprint) so she wouldn't even submit an unlock request. I went to the store and while they submitted an unlock request but were told on the phone that the 40 day period may apply (even though it does not say that on their website).
I am supposed to find out by Monday if they will unlock it or not. If they don't I will just buy an unlock code from one of the unlocking websites. Kind of crazy T-Mobile makes you jump through these hoops when you can just buy a code for $25.
What T-Mobile's Sim Unlock Department answered to my request..

The question I have is that if you plan to use the phone on AT&T's network all of the time, will AT&T add the T-Mobile's phone IMEI to your AT&T account so it reflects the correct device on your line for account and possible insurance purposes?

yeah tmobile phones are network locked, and if you are doing the monthly pay plan, tmobile wont give you the unlock code until it is paid off.
im the kind of person who likes to unlock my phone regardless of me leaving or staying with a specific network or not.
i chatted with tmobile and they wouldn't give me my code, so i went to cellunlocker (dot) net and got my code in ~7 hours.
(im not affiliated with cellunlocker in any way)

I have a T-Mobile S4 and I can confirm it does get LTE on AT&T. I got a SIM unlock pin from an online site and then the device accepted my AT&T SIM. The only thing I had to do after that was change the APN to use "phone" instead of "wap.cingular" and LTE is working great!

how'd you manage to add the APN? i'm in the same situation and cannot add the APN. i'm trying to use an AT&T iPhone5 SIM in my T-Mo unlocked Galaxy S4 ... getting phone service, but no data. am confused.

on the stock Galaxy S4, you just open apps drawer, go to <SETTINGS> <CONNECTIONS><MORE NETWORKS><MOBILE NETWORKS><ACCESS POINT NAMES> then hit the "menu button" on your phone and choose "New APN" type in your data and hit the "menu button" again and choose "Save"

Will it work fully on att Tmobile and Sprint???

Just wondering if it works on all carriers or should I wait for the unlocked version ? Thanks.

I have a vzw line. Popped in vzw sim. Then popped in my tmo sim. Data and calls work. Speed was faster on tmo sim though.

I just picked up a Verizon S8+ (i had a T-Mobile one but just returned it) and i popped a T-Mobile SIM Card in it and i got a message saying "This is not a Verizon Wireless SIM Card" and it wouldn't let me use it. I thought it was supposed to be unlocked??
It is unlocked. After swapping Sims the only change you got to make is change preffered network mode from LTE/CDMA to LTE/GSM oh and go to APN and choose your new sim card apn. And thats it. Ive tried all carriers on my Verizon S8+ with no problems

What probably will not work on any carrier phone other than TMobile will be WiFi calling when using TM SIM.
Hey! I need to know if I buy a s8+ in Verizon, I will can use in Chile with my local carrier? I can read that you don't have problems changing the carrier in USA, will be the same if I use the phone with a Chilean Sim? Thanks!
I have a Verizon S8+ on AT&T unlimited service and it works perfectly. So you'll be good for Tmo as well. I have no clue about Sprint tho.
I have a Verizon S8+ on att and it works great. Does anyone know if I get HD Voice with this combination ?
Verizon unlocked S8 plus on T-Mobile working flawlessly for me
Verizon unlocked and works very well in France on the Orange network.
When I got my VZW S8+ I popped in my tmo sim first thing. It worked flawlessly out of the box. I didnt even have to add any APN settings as all of the tmo settings were built in. Awesome job sammy!
What about video call ect I'm having issues getting that **** to work is u pres *#77467# it says false on all the **** why won't the ims register that controls all that
I have an issue with s8+ using AT&T sim. The issue is that the phone shows a plus sign in front of my all incoming calls treating them as international calls. Does anyone know the solution?
The phones are completely unlocked, what you need to do is look up the VPN settings that T-mobile, or at&t use for their phones and set them accordingly. Though some functions might not work with non-Verizon carriers through changing these functions. (messages, video calling, etc..)
Thank you all. I bought the s8+ from Verizon out right because I wasnt sure if I was going to stick with them. And it looks like I am moving to t-Mobile this month, I was going to look into flashing the firmware, but I was worried since I used Samsung pay like crazy. So I am fine with just disabling the verizon apps and going from there.
Anyone know if the phone will still get updates if I swap in a T-Mobile SIM, or a Verizon-compatible one from Straight Talk while still on the VZW firmware?

Sounds good. Do you know of the Verizon phone has all the bands of the T-Mobile version?
Fully work - no. Things like HD calling and wifi calling wont work without t-mobile software.

[Q] Best way to get a phone that will work with Verizon and all LTE bands overseas

I've really enjoyed my S7 and want to upgrade to the S9. Later in the year I'll be overseas for almost a year, so I want something that will work with all Verizon bands of LTE, but also not have a firmware lock that would cause it to not work on other bands of LTE overseas. (planning to just use prepaid dataplan sim cards overseas)
I think my two options are to either get a US 'unlocked' version or wait for the 'international' version. My understanding is the primary differences between the unlocked and international version is the 2G/3G coverage for CDMA and possibly slightly different hardware. I'd rather have a phone with CDMA backwards capability, but my prime concern lacking full access to all LTE bands available wherever I am.
I'm not really interested in going any route that would require me to root the phone if there is a way to do it without.
Well the only way to get VZW compatibility is the VZW phone or a US unlocked model. So you're looking at the US Unlocked model at this point.
A listing of all the different model numbers available (per country and carrier) is available here: https://www.techwalls.com/samsung-galaxy-s9-sm-g960-g965-model-number-differences/
You will probably want to get the phone that works with your primary location the most. I am not sure which countries use which frequencies for LTE in Europe; you will need to research that to see what you may be missing out on.
With my T-Mobile S7, I haven't had any issues when traveling in Europe or Asia. It connects to LTE usually.
So I just did a deep dive of that list:
It looks like the Verizon and Unlocked versions are almost identical (the unlocked US version has B46(5200) 4G TDD LTE, but I'm not sure anyone who uses it)
Looking at 4G FDD LTE it looks like a Verizon or US unlocked phone will have almost complete coverage around the world, notable gaps are B30(2300) in China/Canada/US AT&T, B32(1500) in UK and B71(600) (US Tmobile). I thought that was a bit confusing as you'd expect a US Unlocked phone to service all LTE bands available in the US yet it lacks AT&T and Tmobile bands.
So based on all that information looks like I should just get an unlocked US phone to be totally safe, and I'd likely also be fine getting a Verizon version also.

So I'm new to Android but i use Verizon prepaid. Will I lose anything by going with the unlocked version or should i stick with a Verizon S9?
I don't use video calling. All i do is text and talk but I've heard that people on Verizon prepaid have issues with unlocked Android phones.
Thanks
Would Wifi Calling work with the US unlocked on verizon? I thought that required a Verizon FW to be flashed. I imagine all the other features such as voLTE / HD calling, etc to work on the US unlocked.

I did a cursory review of the wifi-calling FAQ on their website. They don't mention anything about compatibility with Unlocked versions of phones (that I saw). I'd call tech support to ask, but I'd expect there to be a 50% chance of getting the wrong answer from the tech based on my interactions with their support.
There might be some good experience based anecdotes in the Galaxy S8 forum, if it works on an unlocked S8 its a safe bet it will work on an unlocked S9
I think I'll ask in the Verizon subreddit, it seems like they normally have really good information as well.
I'm mostly curious about the LTE TDD Band 46 (5200) - its the only band an unlocked US phone has that a Verizon phone doesn't. 5200 is in the U-NII frequency range, no cellphone service providers use it, but I wonder if it may be used for local LTE networks in the near future. The other advantage is avoiding all the verizon bloat wear, but that may be what allows the Wifi Calling to work!
All this has me thinking I might have to add the extra $80 and just buy the Verizon version. I don't get phones on contract and I've always just paid full price. (Page 2 404 error?)
Apparently the Nov/Dec Samsung s8 firmware update added an option for BYOD carrier provisioning for unlocked s8. Given the similarity, I'd imagine the same to be true for s9. Can someone who has an unlocked s8 confirm?
Well after a little more research I see that if you use Verizon prepaid you lose visual voicemail and WiFi calling even if you use a Verizon phone so there's no need in me paying extra for a Verizon S9. Unlocked it is.

You might wanna check this as Verizon is starting to implement network locks on some devices as to deter thefts more
Dont know when or what devices but it was a statement Verizon made
So, you're saying the prepaid SIM might not work in an unlocked S9?
I don't think Verizon is keeping Verizon prepaid SIMS from working in unlocked phones they are just locking their phones like Sprint and AT&T still do.
I had no problems with my unlocked Pixel 2 XL that I purchased from Google and my Verizon prepaid, just no visual voicemail.

Unlocked Samsung on ATT or TMO

Does anyone know how the new unlocked devices handle carriers like ATT for calling features, like WiFi Calling? The Pixel works as long as your account is activated for WFC
If not, will you be able to flash carrier former on an unlocked device to get features working?
I don't know how that works with ATT - I know that my G975F does not get those calling features - but considering the unlocked Pixel Does get Wifi Calling and and Enhanced LTE on ATT, it is possible that an Unlocked Samsung Phone will too. (if it were a tmobile phone, it would not get WIfi Calling on ATT - but I honestly think the Unlocked Samsung Might) Good Luck.

Wasn't sure ..... It was strange in that ordering the unlocked from Samsung have 600 credit for a Note 9 , but only 300 for an ATT ???
I have accounts with ATT and TMO ..... So I thought I know unlocked might be best
But I don't want to end up with no calling features on either
Worst case i would assume you could Odin the att files on the unlocked version to enable it. That's how it's been the last few years anyway with Samsung devices(snapdragons). I know that those features work on the unlocked with t mobile.
On T-Mobile I get WiFi calling and volte with my old Note 9 and current S10+. Never had an issue. The only thing you do t get is that aggregate LTE capability. But I don't really notice a difference in speeds. Not sure how it works with ATT.

Did you try any of the "tricks"? Like Odin flashing carrier firmware or making sure that ATT had your IMEI in their database or even putting an ATT device IMEI in your account settings?
Because if you do nothing and expect WiFi calling on a non ATT device it will never work
I have the unlocked Note 10+ on T-Mobile and have all of my carrier features except native video calling/rcs.
about N975U1 firmware
-ATT CSC : no features
-TMC CSC ( Tmobile )

Odin flash carrier firmware. I'd rather just buy the AT&T version and not have to go through the trouble.
Yes, AT&T has my IMEI in their database. I even gave them one from my AT&T branded S9+, but that trick doesn't work anymore. They read the IMEI directly out of the device at some point when it connects to their network.
I called support and asked them to verify that I had WiFi calling and VoLTE provisioned, but then when they saw the IMEI was from an unlocked S10+, they told me it wasn't supported.
I did everything I could short of flashing the carrier firmware, which I didn't want to do because I was considering switching back to Verizon. BTW, WiFi calling and VoLTE works fine on Verizon with an unlocked Samsung S9 or S10 without having to flash anything! It's AT&T that's being difficult.
What Guyd said. I called At&t to see if they coould provision a device. The young lady I spoke with gave a list of like 5 devices they can provision. I then asked about the unlocked firmware and they do not support unlocked firmware for advanced messaging..wifi calling..or volte

For sure, with some of my prior devices unlocked firmware or even custom ROMs would not allow for ATT to be successful with WFC. It takes an IMEI ,(that's from an ATT branded device that does WiFi calling in your billing account) ..... AND ..... The correct CSC stuff ...... AND ...... a couple of files that are used by the system with ATT WFC.
The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a had all that was needed, even though unlocked, to work with ATT and obtain WFC as long as you had correct info on ATTs end with an IMEI that allowed for WFC on their Network.
Btw in my experience I never had any issues with another IMEI being maintained in my billing account but admittedly it was easier for me to change IMEI because I could do it myself with my business account portal.
But some prior devices like the Note 9 and S9 and 10 required other stuff including files to make things to work.
My original question was a hopeful one that the newer device Note 10 (unlocked) possibly had everything it needed ( at least on the phone's end to make things work, like the Pixels do).
Btw. In my experience, asking level 1 or even 2 ATT tech support is utterly useless with things like this.
They don't " support" anything that isn't in their cookbooks that they read from during a tech support call!!!!!
All that said, my guess is that we may have to flash carrier firmware with Odin to get calling features with ATT but I also guess that TMobile will work out of the box, as I believe some have confirmed already

Has there ever been an attempt to sue AT&T since they force you to buy from them...and disable phone's features that you pay for but can't use due to having an unlocked phone?

No
1. They DON'T force you to buy from them. You can buy just about any unlocked device and use it on ATT. For example the Google Pixel or any of the Samsung Galaxy phones.
2. They haven't disabled anything on your phone. But they have a right to determine which phone features will work on their Network. Unless you are paying a separate fee for WiFi calling or VoLTE, then they aren't disabling anything that your paying for. They simply require you to use an ATT branded device to access certain free features.
Does it suck that you have to have an ATT branded device? Sure. Is it illegal. Absolutely not.
By the way, ALL the carriers do this to an extent. Sprint won't hardly activate a phone on their Network that isn't a Sprint branded device. I think they've eased those restrictions, but just a couple years ago with the Note 8, they had a very strict list of BYOD devices.
WiFi calling and VoLTE works on T-Mobile with an unlocked device, but RCA messaging and video calling from the stock dialer does not.
I'm not sure about Verizon, but I believe not all of their features work with the unbranded firmware either.
I flashed my unlocked Note 10 Plus to the ATT U firmware. I am using ATT prepaid. Right now ATT wifi calling doesn't work with Note 10 Plus but it does work for S10 Plus (and previous models). I am pretty sure this is because the Note 10 is still very new and their system needs some update. I will wait a couple weeks and see what happens.
