Quick question about the Desire 816x - Desire 816 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I purchased this HTC desire 816x from Amazon. It is a dual sim unicom version. I was wondering if they all come unlocked, besides the bootloader, and supercid. All I had to do was unlock bootloader and flash twrp. It was already supercid and s-off. It was purchased new. I'm just curious if anyone purchased this phone like this and if theirs were unlocked and s-off with supercid.

If it was S-OFF it couldn't have been new.

I thought desire 816 didn't have s off yet...

I purchased it March 2 or 3 and it was shipped from China a day or two later. It had the screen protector from the factory and all of the plastic covering the case and all that good stuff. I pulled the back cover and no refurbished sticker anywhere.

.....

I have heard of other people getting such phones from Taiwan and China. They're all S-off and super-cid and they run sense 5.5 (probably illegally unlocked from carrier and sold outside china). I suggest you look into the update procedures as that's the most frequent problem people have had with them.

It is running sense 6. I'm not too sure about updating.

Query Regarding Getting the Desire from London

Well the topic is about the Desire and how to get it but I was not sure which forum to put it in so posted it here.
Well my Brother is moving to London for 2 years. Now he has his N95 (unlocked) which he would like to continue using as he has his paid apps installed on it and stuff.
Now he's getting a HTC Desire on contract. So If he uses the Contract Sim in his N95 and sends back the Desire to me here in India, I could unlock it and use it with any data carrier here in India right?
Yes you could unlock / debrand the Desire and use it on another network.

you will be able to use it no probs in india, you may want to check with the network you use in india and make sure that they use a compatible 3g band if that is important to you

He will be either on T Mobile or Vodafone
The network won't care right even if he's using his contract sim in his other unlocked phone?

Thanks a lot
Well I use vodafone here and as of yet there is no 3G so it might not make a differrnce. Any idea what 3G band is used in India though?

Oh and one more thing.
Some guy on tech enclave was saying that if you unlock your phone using the unlock code the phone will once again get locked after I update my phone software to Froyo.
Is that true? I thought this only happened in iPhones? If it's true what are my alternative means of unlocking?
Thank you everyone
Simply re use the same unlock code you originally used to unlock the phone and you'll be fine.

That would work right? Or will they not let you re use the same code?
It worked for me when my phone was re locked after debranding, its worked for others on here too.

Could you tell me what site you or others used for unlocking the phone from which you could re use the key?
Anyone know How much would it cost in customs to get a Desire from the UK to India?

T-Mobile Germany FroYo OTA Update?

Hi,
I'm on the German O2, but I bought the phone from an eBay guy who had in turn bought it from T-Mobile Germany. The only sign of T-Mobile on the phone is the logo during boot. It is not SIM-locked and neither has any hardware branding.
Should I be able to see the update?
Probably not. It shows the T-Mobile screen when booting which means it is branded.

Thanks for the quick answer! I'll probably root my current version and then install the rooted update from this thread anyway:

Htc desire hd factory unlocked

i purchased new desire hd. how can i come to know is my phone factory unlocked or software unlocked..
Factory unlocked means it's sim free, so try diffrent sim cards

Even if you software unlock a phone it will work on different sim cards . but if we update the firmware it will stop working . If the phone is factory unlocked it will continue to work. so i was wondering my phone is software unlocked or factory unlocked
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Did it come in a sealed box?
If you bought it from a store, it came in a sealed box and works with several carriers, then it's factory unlocked.
If you didn't buy it from a store and it didn't come in a sealed box, then there is a chance that it is software unlocked.
Try gfree-verify in Google.

Branded phone

Does it have the Vodafone logo on boot up? If not it's unbranded (which I believe Phones4U stock now, CPW definitely do)
Cheers man il check now

The other way is if it's running x.xx.401.x then it's unbranded
my p4u HOX is unbranded and carrier unlocked.
