So I'm trying to fix my s4, I can't call or receive any calls. When I do it automatically goes to the call without ringing. I tried a factory reset and it worked for 10 minutes and it went back to no ringing. I tried to flash 4.4.2 on to it through odin and it gives me this error "complete(write) operation failed" from this point I didn't know what to do and I'm trying to go back on to stock.
As of right now, I'm using CM 11. However I did do a backup of my stock before I did anything to it.
Simplified: How to fix making calls and receiving calls and How to get pass the Odin error "complete(write) operation failed"
Flashing a current modem will/should fix the problem without going back to stock rom.
You can find a modem file for Odin in development section.

Odin won't let you put the zip file in though. Even when I unzip it.
Odin only takes a Tar MD5 type files. The zip you download has to be unzipped with a program like 7Zip on the PC, there you find the Tar file that goes into Odin.
The modem is a tar file, not zip.
There are some good youtube videos that you can look at for reference.

Will the NH7 modem you linked me work for the NK2 firmware I just flashed onto my s4?
Yes it will work. But if you flashed the stock firmware you should have a matching modem.
Nk2 is newer than Nh7.

I've searched but can't find an UVUAMDL baseband file to flash anywhere, any idea why that is ?
I'm on rooted UVUAMDL stock rom but still on UVUAMDB baseband and I've been losing network connection 3 times today in areas where my gf's S4 on stock UVUAMDL has been rock solid, so I think having the modem mismatch the rom is probably the issue...

Another thread actually has info that this is an issue with the phone. I'm sorry, but I'm unable to locate the thread again.
I dont think its a issue....been flashable modems on every galaxy phone including both international s4 so irs just a matter of someone who knowshow to make it
Can someone with the know how make one?....thanks in advance

I'm using the Wicked v2 ROM that is using MDB as the baseband and the only network issue I'm having is connecting to the LTE network. Phone connection is fine, 4G connection works great, but whenever I'm in an area that has the new T-mobile LTE network, my phone loses its data connection unless I force it to use the 4G connection.
I had same exact problem. I Odin'd the MDL tar which put me at MDL baseband and that fixed my problem. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2258628

Also tried this last night with no success. Still on older baseband. I believe its what breaks my WiFi. The only temporary solution I've found is to flash a custom kernel I found here. Its fixed my WiFi issues but I'd eventually would like to have my baseband upgraded too.

i'll try to tmw. this is just what i had on hand and already uploaded
we now have a modem thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2282342
Wow, that was crazy. I tried heimdall flashing the modem at first and nothing. So I made one of my flashable update .zips I had made for T999 and still nothing!
Then I found this thread and tried something crazy:
(1) Download mode + heimdall flash of a few files w/o reboot, then hard reboot back to Download Mode
(2) heimdall flash of same files w/o reboot (it should error)), then hard reboot back to Download Mode
(3) heimdall print-pit (forces it to reboot cleanly)
I did this with all the firmware files including the bootloader but it was scary. I tried to do all the other firmware files at once and it wrote all but aboot.mbn and failed to write that one out. It was worrying since I the other bootloader files had succeeded and I was worrying I could possibly brick it. I repeated the above steps for aboot.mbn and got it to update as well. It seems the above steps can't be used for all the firmware files at once, but at least a few of them. It seems heimdall can get into a bad state with communicating with the device if too many flashes are pushed at once.
This was with a clean git checkout of heimdall from its github repo the other night. Unfortunately heimdall seems to have a bunch of bugs lately. 1.4rc1 (shipped with Debian and other distros) is broken for the S3. --no-reboot option suppresses reboot on S3 and S4 but further commands are not accepted, requiring manual hard reboot. Earlier versions don't work at all.
It worked out for me in the end but gosh I don't know how I'd modify the script to work short of someone having some sort of way of overriding the write protection. I tried dd manually in recovery and in CM and nothing... Seems like some sort of NAND write protection is going on. If I dd a modem to mmcblk0p1 and read it back, the content doesn't change
Maybe we need something like wpthis.ko from HTC Vision days ...
Anyway I got my wife's phone on UVUAMDL w/o Odin but boy it wasn't pretty. I made an updater script but it doesn't actually work do to the above reasons.
Anyone know what's up with the crazy write protection on the mmcblk0 partitions? It seems nothing ever gets written to mmcblk0p1 for example if I try to write NON-HLOS.bin out to it.
Major props for the modem-only Odin package for the S4, but unfortunately not all of us here have/want to use Windows, so I'd like to figure out a flashable update.zip solution to simplify this like I've done on the T999 S3.
Unfortunately my script was a no-op and only doing a bunch of crazy stuff through heimdall and hard rebooting the device several times over was the only way for me to achieve a full MDL firmware upgrade for S4 that included NON-HLOS.bin and modem.bin (the two modem firmwares on S4), rpm.mbn (Resource and Power Management), sbl{2,3}.mbn and aboot.mbn (MDL bootloader), and tz.mbn (MDL Trust Zone)
I noticed Download Mode had "Write Protect: On" -- I don't remember if my S3 says this or not.
Is anyone working on a way to get around this? Maybe the hack can be integrated into an update.zip script that updates the firmware. MDB radio / firmware seemed really bad on the S4. It would sometimes have trouble making 911 calls (!!!) and was overall really lame with power usage and data. I'm still playing with MDL to see how much improvement there is, but seems like a nice win.

Here is a step by step guide:
Easy and sure way to root your phone - Here is s step by step guide:
After you have followed these instructions your phone will be in the same condition
as it was the day you have purchased it except with the benefit of being rooted.
Download the stock-rooted Samsung Galaxy S3 Jellybean v4.1.1 T999 firmware: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390169635556426451
After downloading make a folder on your computer's desktop and unzip the
file using Winzip or 7zip so the .TAR file is in the new folder you just made.
Download and extract Odin into the same folder you made containing the TAR file
Here is the link for Odin: http://d-h.st/Q14
Download ODIN which is required for flashing the stock rooted firmware (a windows app)
Download the Odin Flash firmware for T999 Tmobile then copy it to the same folder as Odin
Run Odin by double clicking the Odin.exe within the same folder as the TAR file you extracted
Turn off your phone and boot into DOWNLOAD MODE (Volume Down + Home + Power Hold until phone powers up, then release and press Volume Up to enter Download Mode)
Once in Download Mode, connect the USB/Charger cable to the phone and plug into the USB port on your computer.
You should now see a COM** port listed toward the top-left of Odin (under ID:COM)
Click on the PDA button in the middle-right area of Odin.
Browse to and select the Firmware you downloaded (TAR file)
Make sure Auto-Reboot and F. Reset Time are the only options checked and that PDA is the only other thing checked.
TRIPLE CHECK your settings and that you have selected the correct firmware for your model phone and are using the correct options.
If you are using a laptop, make absolutely sure you are plugged in, or if on battery, that it is charged enough and will not go into sleep mode during flash.
Click Start to begin the flash. This will take a while, so be patient!
Once complete, in the top-left box in Odin, it will say PASS and the phone should have automatically rebooted.
You may unplug the phone and close Odin if you wish.
Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the system to boot the first time and then build its cache!
(It may seem to take a long time on first boot, this is normal so you must be very patient!!!)
Good Luck!

The reason is that Jody (the developer) removed the new RADIO/MODEM image

If you want the original baseband/modem/radio cwm/twrp flashable zipfile here

That's one of the main reasons I always suggest NOT to odin flash the stock T999 4.1.2 tar rom
but instead flash the cwm/twrp T999 pre-rooted deoxidized 4.1.2 rom which Jody setup for us.
People should have been warned about what you said before they allowed the OTA update to

I haven't looked at jovys but there are two files that cause the recovery rewrite, and if he didnt remove them his rom will do the same.

Install-recovery.sh
Recovery-on-boot.p
The second is wrong im pretty sure, but its something similar. Check my firmware thread and it should be there.

I was just looking in your "Firmware/OTAs T999(V) Official, Leaked & Root66 FW & OTA Updates" thread

I wanted to ask if this firmware includes the modem/radio in the TAR file?
If it does, what is the filename of the modem/radio file? (I need to remove it).
My phone is an Unlocked AT&T I747 Galaxy S3 which I am using with Tmobile service and
I do not want to flash the modem/radio since it will not work with my phone.

Modem is NON-HLOS.bin. Can't remove it, because the md5 check will fail.
Maybe ask mrrobinson if he can give you any pointers on how to remove it correctly. The steps he uses to create root66 would likely work to remove the modem as well.
Do you have the same partition layout as us? If not, dont use any of the firmware. If so you can always flash it and then flash your correct radio after.

I don't think that Odin requires the .MD5 extension, I know I have Odin flashed

I am sure I have the same partition layout, I am using the cwm/twrp flashable zipfile of the pre-rooted UVDMD5 T999 4.1.2 rom.
Before I got the Unlocked AT&T Galaxy S3 I had the galaxy S2 which I used with AT&T network and flashed the
root66 Odin flash roms before and had no problems, but since I am with Tmobile now I need to remove the radio file.
Since I am with Tmobile now, I never odin flashed roms due to the fact that they all contain the radio file.
Mobile Odin will flash without the md5 extension. Cant remember for sure with pc odin. I may try it later tonight to see for sure. You can also deselect the modem when flashing via M.O. in case you didnt know, though
I am also pretty sure you have the same layout as the t999. I appreciate you taking the time to do it in a way that is safe and wont brick!
I do think you would be ok to flash the full fw though, just make sure you have a copy of the correct modem and flash it right after.
Ill let you know for sure about the md5 after I get home and try it out.

Long story short, directly after installing Swap Internal Sdcard to External Sdcard my phone rebooted into recovery mode saying that it could not mount /Data & /Cache. This was on Cyanogenmod 10.2 (latest nightly) and I was an idiot and tried to start over and failed at repartitioning my ROM. Does anyone have a ROM configuration directory tree for a PIT configuration so I can recovery my phone?
Model is: SPH-l900
Recovery: TWRP
This is my last resort D:
======Update======== 10/09/2013
I've done a lot of research, pretty much summed up my options. Since I do not have a PIT configuration for my SPH-l900 I can either buy a hardware / software combo to repair my phone, throw my phone away, or risk taking it to a sprint store.
Also what device would I use to repair my phone? JTAG / RIFFTag? or ???
And also no one can make a PIT file for the SPH-L900 (16GB) ?
I have
Just odin back to a stock rooted LJC rom and it will automagically repartition your phone back the way it needs to be.

I was looking for a .PIT configuration file because my ROM (EMMC) was corrupted, from my experience Odin only works with regular Custom OS .tar installs if you only have a working ROM (EMMC). I had to repartition my phone first... And I did look lol, I couldn't find a working .PIT file for my phone sadly and on top of that I tried to create my own but failed it hard. I guess it was a great learning experience because sprint looked at my phone and just said that they would replace my old one, and since I've had it for about a year they just let me keep the old one

I guess it was a great learning experience because sprint looked at my phone and just said that they would replace my old one, and since I've had it for about a year they just let me keep the old one

I have same problem and tried to do things as your guy have shown: get the t0lte.zip and MC2 but the pit re-partition is failed after all just seconds after hit the start. Tried to do with several USBs but no help.
What should I do next? I can get my phone into ODIN download mode but could not flash the any stock ROM. I got the message :There is no PIT partition and if I attach file t0tle.pit and check the re-partition box then I got the message second after hit the start button : Re-Partition operation failed.

You should not need to repartition. I don't believe they changed to go to 4.3. What happens if you do just the tarball?

My meaning is try flashing the tar file only. Don't add the pit file or check repartition.

OH, OK... if so then I got the message something like there is no pit file. The phone if I don't do anything but just hit the power button it will come to a blank screen with nothing in it and you cannot control anything even power button and you will need to take the battery out in order to turn the phone off but I also mentioned that I can get into the Odin download mode and when you do the tarball (your term) you will get the message that said no pit file.
Did this end up working out for you? I've downloaded MC2 (4.1.2?) and another version (4.4 I think) and everything I try keeps telling me I need a PIT file. My phone is soft bricked where it'll go into download mode, but trying to go into recovery or booting it normally and it'll turn into a Poltergeist screeen and won't do anything - http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-2-sprint/help/odd-semi-brick-t3082102

I've tried literally everything possible....Cannot get anything to flash in Odin or Philz Recovery....Is there any other way to try to reset internal memory?
New logic board and now the phone is good as new, thanks eBay

I am in the same boat.
Woke up this morning and phone is on "Galaxy Note 2" screen. Does not even get past the Sprint and Samsung boot anims. Try to boot into TWRP to send some commands and disable Xposed, I did some playing with Xposed last night but when I went to sleep, I had done multiple restarts and tests w/ Xposed modules and all was sound. Put it on the charger and slept. Until this morning!
Not able to send and ADB commands to phone during boot.
I can get into dl mode with Odin but so far the recovery files I've tried to flashed have returned either FAILED or NO PIT PARTITION error.
Kchannel9.. so you got a new motherboard. Were you ever able to recover any of your data off your old motherboard?

Nope.
I use the Sprint SlimBean ROM and I had no issues with it on my SCH-S960L. I had no issues with my mobile connection except for the fact that it it took some time to connect to mobile data services or even required a restart or Airplane mode toggled. This along with it sometimes did not switch between 3G and LTE when it should. Because of this I attempted to flash a newer Sprint Galaxy S3 modem. This completely disestablished any connection to services. It has 0 bars and cannot make calls, send texts, or use data. I have tried to reflash the ROM but of course, it did not help at all.
Now in the light of hope, I made a backup of the efs and firmware folders before flashing. I'm not sure how I can fix my issue with this but it was suggested to do so before flashing.
My baseband version was S960LWYAMD6. While I could reflash the old modem, (with help) I would prefer a better modem. (if there are any)
Any help is appreciated.
With best regards,
SirBenjamin
Well this just may be your day. Apparently chxnugs just posted the Modem for your particular device HERE. I would update PRL / Profile first just to see if that will help. Also have you tried ##72786# ?

i know this is sprint galaxy s3 section, but the straight talk s3 is basically the same phone and there is no section for it.
if you own this particular model, then you would know that its pure hell trying to find ANY files. this is the stock MD6 modem.bin ripped from my phone. ive seen people ask for this modem because they flashed the MD4 modem in hopes of getting their MSL and/or for the benefits of being able to use the 16-digit password. (which reminds me.. i have read of ways to port the 16-digit password from a .dll file in the phone? i have done loads of searching, but the password is NO WHERE to be found) and needed the stock modem. so for anyone that needs it here it is.
hopefully us ST S3 users will eventually gather up all the odin files to completely restore our phones when needed

I tried to flash the file chxnugs provided. I used both Mobile Odin and replaced the modem file in another flashable ZIP. Neither of them worked and I still get 0 bars/unknown baseband.
Honestly I have no idea what to do to fix this but it needs to work.
Again I say, all help is appreciated.
ok i extracted a fresh modem.bin straight from my phone. let me know if it works
Oh and just asking.. have you extracted the .bin file from the zip and tried it

I got the same results. I extracted the .bin but renamed it to NON-HLOS.bin since Mobile Odin would not accept it as modem.bin. Am I flashing this wrong?

Proby, I tried to do the other things you suggested. I can't update the PRL/Profile since I'm on a custom ROM. That is unless there is another way. I did not understand what you meant with the number you mentioned. If you wanted me to call that it did nothing.
As for chx, unfortunately it still did not fix it. This quick little modem update is turning into a nightmare. Not only that, but no sound plays, the microphone does not work, and DSP Manager crashes whenever I try to play media.
I really appreciate both of your support though.
Yay! I used Mobile Odin Pro and flashed a file from another thread. It may have been the file or using Mobile Odin Pro since it downloaded the correct driver. I appreciate all of your help, though.

More info would help us help you. What method, CF Autoroot? What firmware? What have you tried? Factory reset?

Instead of running around and getting no where, why not download and Odin flash CF-Autoroot
which is the best rooter to be found and can be directly downloaded here:
http://download.chainfire.eu/328/CF...jfltetmo-jfltetmo-sghm919.zip?retrieve_file=1
Once you downloaded it, extract the tar file inside the zip and put the tar file into Odin's PDA slot/tab.
Then go ahead and flash it.
You will be pleasantly surprised that your phone will be able to make and receive calls again unless
there it had issues even before you flashed using techfanatic9's method (whatever it was).
Good luck!

Which exact rom to you have installed right now?
Also check your baseband to see if it says: MK2 or MDL
You can check the baseband by going to:
Settings>More>About device
Then scroll down to the Baseband and see if it displays MK2 or MDL.
Without knowing those two things it's not easy to help you much.
Good luck!
