I am using paranoid android ROM version 4.4.4 (20140729) , GAPPS 4.4.4 (20150125), on my SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 GT i9300, but when u check update via paranoid ota i get an error message 'error checking for ROM updates, please help me

because that version is from the land of the dinosaurs. it was released before a change to the API.
If you want a newer version, just go download and flash it.

Mine got updated to 4.2.2 over wifi today. I did not know it was for 4.2.2. I thought it was for a regular update. Anyway, mine is now running 8.2.2 and lost the multiple windows function.:crying:

Which ROM you are talking about ??... Once you root your device and Install any ROM you will not get any Official Updates From Samsung since your device status will be custom....But if you install this ROM based on 4.4 KK you will get the Tast of original KitKat 4.4 taste which Nexus and Other device have Not fully pure but almost near to it ....
I dont think were gonna get update kitkat if you use stock rom

To flash most of the custom ROMS u need to be on 4.2.2 (i.e. to upgrade boot loader).
1. First upgrade to 4.2.2 preferably ...MK3 version,
2. Take nandroid backup and then experiment with custom ROMS until u choose the desired one.

Official updates are pushed out by region. It is possible a newer version was released but not for your region.
