Just got the full confirmation from my Samsung mobile rep yesterday that sprint will be dropping the 4.2.2 firmware for the S3 in mid June. Anybody hear anything differently of can back up what he told me?
Edit: it's mid June and we've seen nothing yet lol *(clearly)*. Either my rep was mistaken on the ETA or the rumors are true about the delay for the S3 and the Note II. I apologize for the mixed information.

I'm fairly sure they meant only for the international version because that's been all over the place.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2287110
That would be cool and I wouldn't be surprised if Sprint did release it as they are pretty good with updates. But like someone said, the international version will probably get the update first.

That would be awesome if we actually got the update around that time
But news leaked that the international will get it in June....and I've never seen them release it for Sprint at the same time
This is great if it is true.
Interesting but history doesn't lie... usually international will get it then the US gets it months later. So I would not be surprised if you have been told false info.

I'm guessing that to get that OTA 4.2.2 update I would have to go back to stock everything from something like this: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099)
I feel like quite a bit of people on XDA already are rooted and have a custom ROM that is already 4.2.2; is there a reason to unroot and go back to stock when 4.2.2 comes back?

Right now only AOSP based Roms are on 4.2.2 for our phone. Some people like Touchwiz Roms better. You don't have to unroot. When OTA drops you can just flash a rooted version of the OTA update or other OTA based TW Roms when they update.

Is your Samsung contact actually from Samsung or just a 3rd party marketing partner like MarketStar or Marketsource?
MarketStar and Marketsource folks don't know squat.
This will be validated if we start seeing rdfs drop in the next couple of days as this has always been the cycle in the past.

All I know is that my note 2 is rooted but my wife's s3 is not and I still find myself using her phone all the time. It's a great phone and if it's updated to 4.2.2 that will definitely hold her off till her upgrade.
And like someone said, Sprint is getting better with updates, probably the best from the 4 major companies.

If the 4.1.2.update is any indicator, my guess would be summer 2014.
These announcements are ALWAYS for the international version...it takes the US carriers months to put out their updates from there. International versions do not have as much restrictions as in the US and the carriers here reserve the right to control updates. And AT&T is notoriously last in those carriers.

The 4.3 release for the S3/S4/N2 is pretty tied up to the release of the Galaxy Gear "smart" watch.
Event though the Gear will probably not sell like hot cakes, I'm pretty sure carriers will want their share of the pie sooner than later. Because of this, I'll hold on to my pink glasses and expect the update to be made available by the holidays.
I would also expect Samsung to put some pressure on the carriers to do so...

You might want to check the AT&T Wireless website and make sure it has your phone listed. Maybe even call AT&T and make sure they have the proper IMEI in their system.

OK folks, there is an off topic and other device thread already in existence...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192602
Figured i would start this thread seeing as the Verizon has its own now. This way all of the sprint rumors, speculation and or whatever involving the 4.4 update can be put here. This way we are not digging through so many pages to find a few that relate to the sprint variant.
It's weird, Sprint is usually super quick at updates, if not first. Oh well, I think it will be soon, I can feel it.

In LG's defense, when KitKat released in November, some variant's of the m7(HTC One) were still on 4.1.2. LG would have been stupid to update 4.3, it would have been a flagrant waste of money. LG knew in August of the existence of Kitkat(because PDK, and Nexus 5), so they just focused on delivering KitKat, and skipping 4.3. Hell, the Note 10.1 is skipping 4.2 AND 4.3, and going straight to KitKat.

from what i am seeing and hearing, No. you will have to .tot back to stock in order to take ota. or if those apps were backed up in titanium you may be able to restore them and take ota. Not sure on the last one though.
I suspect part of wait for 4.4 is that Sprint put a lot of resources into the 4.2 Spark Update when they would have been otherwise testing KK, other carriers were able to get more QA time on the new release and Sprint is playing catchup. (Personally, I wish they'd waited for KK to do Spark)

I would not get your hopes up for Sprint to release Lollipop to G2. Hardly any of their dealers have G2's in their inventory to justify this. When LS980ZVE rolled out, there was still inventory left to be sold.
With that being said, maybe some long-time Sprint subscribers can chime in and share their opinion on how likely it is for Sprint to roll out an update to a phone they no longer sell that has a successor.
