[HOW-TO] ADB / ADB setup / APP Pushing / More coming [WIP][UPDATED 8/13/13]

HOW-TO
**Easy ADB / APP Pushing / More Coming Soon**
**DISCLAIMER** I accept no responsibility if you brick, blow up or burn up your device, you are choosing to follow this and making your own decision**
I have been a long time android user and forum user. The goal here is to create a simple How-To guide for some of you new to android or just new to flashing. This stems from myself being on these forums and helping users fix and troubleshoot things. My goal is to give you some basics to help with testing or troubleshooting and to teach you a thing or two. There will be several sections and updates along the way. The Note 2 will be used as the device, but these can be done on most other devices as well.

**Easy ADB**Thanks @kennyglass123, @CNexus and @gruesomewolf
Code:
This was thought of the other night when kennyglass123 and CNexus
were trying to get recovery to mount storage. I had a idea, Why not
make a simple way to get a ADB log when trouble shooting, instead
of using an app from the market. Plus it will pull a log upon boot, ever
had it where your testing something and it wont boot and the Developer
wants you to get a log, but you either don't have ADB or know how to
use ADB. This is for you!! Thanks goes to Kenny Glass, CNexus for the
idea and Gruesomewolf for the bat file edit.
What you need
Windows PC
Android device
Easy ADB.zip attached to this post
Whats included
Your basic ADB parts to be able to run without needing the SDK installed
LOG.bat file
Reboot.bat (Reboots device)
Recovery.bat (Sends device to recovery)
Download mode.bat (Sends device to download mode (ODIN mode))
How to record log cat using LOG.bat
You will download the zip
Extract to your desktop for easy access
Plug your device in to your PC
Open the ADB folder
Right click the LOG bat file, select run as admin (might not need to)
It will open a command window
Select ANY key to continue or control-c to quit
Wait for it to return to press any key to continue
Now you will have a text file called LOG, that is you LOG cat using ADB
You are now done and can send it to whomever or read it over yourself.
**Pushing system apps (Root Needed) (Will be posting screencasts of this also)**
Have you come across someone posting something or telling you to push this app? I know I push them all the time. This can be used for MORE than just apps!! You can push just about everything. This will cover pushing a system app to the /system/app folder AND pushing a framework.jar to /system/framework folder. I will cover this using Root Explorer (paid) and ES File (free)

[HOW-TO] ADB / APP Pushing / More coming [WIP]
Setting up JDK and SDK for ADB use.
Whats is ADB?
ADB or ANDROID DEBUG BRIDGE is a command-line utility that is often used to communicate over the debug channel with a connected phone or virtual device (emulator). ADB can control your device over USB from a computer, copy files back and forth, install and uninstall apps and more...
Click to collapse
What is needed
Windows PC (using Win7 64bit as example)
Java JDK HERE
Android SDK HERE
Android device
Click to collapse
**Setup for Java JDK**
Download the Windows x86 or x64 .exe from HERE . Run the exe and let it install to default location
**Error that SDK does not see Java installed**
Code:
I and many others have had to create a Enviroment Variable so the Android SDK will see the Java JDK.
After java has installed
Click start menu
Right click computer
Select properties
Top left at the bottom of the list is Advanced System Settings, select that
System properties will open and bottom right will be a Enviroment Variables button, select that
A popup will apper (Enviroment Variables)
Select New System variables (bottom section)
Variable name will be JAVA_HOME, case sensitive
Variable value will be C:\Program Files\Java\jre7
Select OK
Select OK again and it will close Environment Variables window
Now in the System Properties window, if the apply button on bottom right is not clickable, we need to make it clickable
So what I do is make a small change to the computer name tab, I just delete one letter from the name and the type the
same letter (you do not actually need to change the name) and the apply button is now clickable, do so.
Now you might want to reboot your PC
Now that's set for when you go to install SDK it will see Java.
**Now to install Android SDK**Download the SDK from HERE. Towards the bottom of the page is "Download other platforms", select that. Scroll to "SDK Tools Only" section and in the Windows section select the installer.exe. Now you double click and run the installer
**Setup Android SDK**
Code:
Open this file path C:\Program files (x86)\Android\android-sdk and double click SDK Manager
It will open, top left is a Tools folder which has "Android SDK Tools" and "Android SDk Platform-tools" in it, check mark all 3 boxes
Bottom right is Install packages button, click it and accept liscences
Now you can navigate to the platform-tools folder and you will see adb now
Make sure you have you device drivers installed which I hope you would have already
Open settings on your device, scroll to Developer options and enable USB debugging
Plug device into PC and let drivers update/install
Now in the window where adb is, press shift+right click and select "Open command window here"
Type adb devices, if you have a device connected and it does not return a device, you need to install again.
If it does return a device you now can use adb for a veritey of functions, some of which I will cover.
***Tomorrow I will add some ADB commands along with what their functions are***

Data Recovery - Internal for Sprint Note II

Hello here is a guide to Recover Deleted files from the internal memory for your Note II
You Need
1.Rooted Android phone ( In my case i used Note 2 SPH-L900 )
2.Install busybox ( Note : my busybox is installed at system/xbin )
3.Drivers Installed on your computer
4.Download Cygwin [ http://www.cygwin.com/install.html ] install to C:\cygwin - make sure you install with pv and util-linux - Make sure to open Cygwin once to make sure that the /bin folder is created. Also create a folder called "NoteII" under C:\cygwin...this will come in use later for the export of the .RAW file
5. Download Recuva [ http://www.piriform.com/recuva/download ]. This is the Software going to recover your file , or you can use your favourite Data recovery software . But i suggest Recuva
6. Install android SDK tool kit so you have access to ADB - I installed mine inside the root of Cygwin - C:\cygwin\android-SDK
Steps :
1. Take your rooted phone . Go to Setting->Developer Options -> Tick on Stay awake and USB debugging
2.Connect your Phone to the Computer , Let the driver Install .
3.Click Start -> Run ,
Type " CMD " Press Enter
5.Dos Window will open up Now Type " cd c:\cygwin\android-SDK\platform-tools " Press Enter (note the path is where you installed SDK on C:\)
6. Type " adb devices " Press Enter
** Make sure it returning out Some numbers (IMEI) under list of devices
7.Type " adb Shell mount " Press Enter
Now this is something important , After the command adb shell mount it will give a long List you need to fine "dev/block/mmcblkop"xx" /data(or user data "
Note : The xx can be any number
In SPH-L900 its " mmcblk0p17 " = userdata Partition .
The last two number (xx) will change from mobile to mobile . Just note the partition name . In our case its " mmcblk0p17 "
You can also download Partition Table apk from the market and it will give you a layout of what each partition is.
8.Close the CMD window . Go to My Computer->C:/->cygwin->Open Cygwin Terminal - this is where you installed the Cygwin terminal and click on the Cygwin.bat to launch terminal
9.Type " export PATH=/cygdrive/c/cygwin/android-SDK/platform-tools:$PATH " Press Enter
10.Type " adb forward tcp:5555 tcp:5555 " Press Enter
11.Type " adb shell " Press Enter
12.Type " su " Press Enter
13.Grant Superuser Right on your Phone
14.Type " /system/xbin/busybox nc -l -p 5555 -e /system/xbin/busybox dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p17 " Press Enter
15.Minimize the window , Open another cygwin Terminal i.e. My Computer->C:/->cygwin->Open Cygwin Terminal
16.Type " export PATH=/cygdrive/c/cygwin/android-SDK/platform-tools:$PATH " Press Enter
17.Type " adb forward tcp:5555 tcp:5555 " Press Enter
18.Type " cd /NoteII " Press Enter
19.Type " nc 127.0.0.1 5555 | pv -i 0.5 > mmcblk0p17.raw " Press Enter
20. Now let it Run this will take long time for me it took me One hour to complete
21.After it Compltes Click start->Run Type " cmd " Press Enter
22. Type " cd c:\cygwin\NoteII\ " Press Enter
23.Type " VhdTool.exe /convert mmcblk0p17.raw " Press Enter
24.Now Close Everything .. Right Click My Comuter->Manage
25.Now Select Storage-->Disk Management.
26.In the menu select Action-->Attach VHD.
27.For Location enter " c:\cygwin\NoteII\mmcblk0p17.raw " and select the OK button.
28.Right-click on the name (e.g. "Disk 1") to the left of the Unallocated space and select Initialize Disk.
29.Select the GPT (GUID Partition Table) radio button and select the OK button.
30.Right-click on the Unallocated space and select New Simple Volume...
31.In the Wizard select Next>, leave the default for the volume size, select Next>, select a drive letter (e.g. K), select Next>, MAKE SURE to select
the 'Do not format this volume' radio button, select Next>, select Finish.
32.A box will pop up asking you to format the drive. You DO NOT want to format the drive at this time.
33.Right-click on the RAW space and select Format... MAKE SURE to change the File system to FAT32. Set the Allocation unit size dropdown to 'Default.' MAKE SURE that the Perform a quick format checkbox is CHECKED. You do not want to overwrite the entire new drive with all zeroes (0's) and destroy your data. Quick Format means that it will only attempt to destroy the index for the drive by establishing a new index. Without this box checked the Windows operating system will write zeroes (0's) across the entire volume, potentially destroying your data. Select the OK button.
34.A box will pop up saying that Formatting this volume will erase all data on it. That would be doubly true if you actually didn't check the 'Perform a quick format' checkbox. Double check that you actually did check the box and select the OK button.
35.Open the Piriform Recuva application. In the wizard select the 'Next >' button. Select the 'Other' radio button and select Next >. Select the 'In a specific location' radio button and enter: k:\ (assuming K is the drive letter you chose...) Select the Next > button. Select the Enable Deep Scan checkbox.
36.The application may take about an hour to do the 'Deep Scan.'
37.Once the application has returned its results you can choose which files to recover using the checkboxes. Select the 'Recover...' button and choose the location to which you wish to output your files.
This is not my work , i just gathered information and used some Copy/Paste. Have a nice day - followed instructions from this thread and modified some steps for our phone - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2140410

How to REMOVE SIM CARD MANAGER from notification panel (even after oreo update)

Now you can remove the ugly f__k dual sim card manager from notification panel, even after updating your phone to android oreo.
Till date you could just install overlay apps and it'd work. But on oreo that doesn't work so simply. Follow these steps.
This method does NOT void your warranty
Steps -->
1> Download the attached file to your computer.
2> Extract.
3> Install the following app provided on your device : aaa.quicksetting.hidesimpanel.apk, and restart your phone.
(If you're using any update upto Nougat, following these three steps would do. People using oreo or later, follow further)
4> Go to the directory and open a Command Prompt Window over there.
[Right click + Open Command Prompt Window Here; or hit Window Key + R, type cmd, and hit enter, then use 'cd' command to move to that directory]
5> Make sure you have USB Debugging turned on. If you don't have it enabled, go to Settings -> About Device -> Tap 7 times on build number quickly -> Enter your Pin, now go back to Settings -> Developer Options -> Switch USB Debugging on.
6> Connect your phone as 'Transfer Files' mode.
7> On the Command Prompt window on your computer, type 'adb shell' and click on allow this computer on your phone.
8> Now enter the following command : adb shell cmd overlay enable aaa.quicksetting.hidesimpanel
9> Reboot your phone.
10> Congratulations!

**EDIT** You can use the RE Live Distro mentioned below to do the above commands if you dont want to fuss with installing adbd on your computer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Root+Magisk]
If your'e on Windows you will have to download and install python and git and MTKClient and UsbDK 64 and abdb. I'm not going to get into how to do all that because there is an Ubuntu image tailored made for all MTK based devices. It has all the programs installed. it is called RE Live made by viperbjk . I recommend doing it this way especially if you have any other devices using MTK chips.
Download Re Live DVD V3. The account credentials are Username: user Password: user
You can create the bootable usb thumb drive with Rufus if you're using windows.
The following steps are based on using the Re Live DVD:
***Your phone must be unlocked before you can root it. *****
1) Power off the phone and do not have it connected to the computer.
2) Boot up RE Live and type 'user' at the login screen.
3) Double-click the 'MTK' icon on the desktop.
4) Plug the USB cable into the computer. Do not plug it into the phone.
5) In the terminal type: python mtk r boot, vbmeta boot.img,vbmeta.img
6) When you see "Preloader - Status: waiting for PreLoader VCOM, please connect mobile" in the terminal you will hold the down volume button and plug the cable into the phone. Let go of the button a second or two after you connect phone. It will show you a progress bar as it downloads the 2 images you need.
7) Unplug the phone and power it on.
8) from that same terminal screen type: wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/v...9e22fa276698f6c03bc1168df2c10/app-release.apk
or use the shortened url if you dont want to type all that: wget https://tinyurl.com/magiskmtk
9) plug the phone and type in the terminal: adb install release-apk [ look at the phone and accept auth rsa request on mobile screen so it can install the app.]
10) in the terminal type: adb push boot.img /sdcard/Download
11) Start magisk, tap on Install, select boot.img from /sdcard/Download.
12) in the terminal type: adb shell ls /sdcard/Download [You should see the boot.img file and another file name 'magisk_patched.something.something.img']
13) in the terminal type: adb shell mv [name of the patched file] boot.patched
14) in the terminal type: adb pull /sdcard/Download/boot.patched
15) Unplug the phone and turn it off (keep the usb plugged into the computer)
16) in the terminal type: python mtk w boot, vbmeta boot.patched,vbmeta.img.empty
17) When you see "Preloader - Satus: waiting..." hold the volume down button and connect the phone. release button when u see it connect and let it do its thing.
18) Unplug phone and power it on. Phone will now be rooted.
