Looking for help... - T-Mobile LG G3

Hey I'm looking for help deciding on phone. I have the UNLOCKED T-mobile G3 right now on AT&T. I had before it the HTC One M8 and the GS5 Active. the G3 is a really awesome phone but the signal is really bad on it. I'm constantly seeing, "Can not send message. Will send when service is available." Not word for word but you get the point. Someone will call me and my phone won't even ring. I have kids. I can't just not have a phone with bad signal not matter if it is an awesome phone. Not sure if It's because it's a T-mobile phone or what.
Anyway, so I'm going to trade my phone. I can upgrade in July so it's not like I have to wait long.
The phones I could trade my phone for are the GS5/GS5 Active, Note 3, OnePlus One, HTC One M8, Moto X 2nd gen. I want to trade my phone with one that I don't feel like I'm getting screwed.. I loved the M8 and the ability to root and rom it but the camera really sucks. I think my blackjack 2 took better pictures. I had the S4 also and the Note 3 is kind of like a bigger version of it so I might want something more up to date. Also I can't root or rom a samsung device anymore it seems.
Can people chime in and let me know what phone to choose and if they have any other suggestions? Thanks.

It might be ATT. Just switched from ATT to T-Mobile and have better coverage where I need it. I think T-Mobile has better building punctuation than ATT in some areas, not sure if it's the LTE bands or what.
I went from no signal in work to 3 bars. Using a G3 right now, love the phone.

Tocuh pro 2 inner battle

i am in biggest battle of my life! heres the issue. im very interested in buying the touch pro 2 and as of right now am without a phone since i sold my htc fuze. now, the touch pro 2 looks good but i see its coming out to the Americas. now the only difference i see is the 3g and let me add that i have tmobile and dont have internet on my phone so 3g really isnt much of a factor. the tmobile version really dosent look that great compared to the original chrome version. and another issue....the htc hero.. in your opinions what would be my best choice. buy the phone now? euro version? wait till a branded version comes out but apart from 3g what else would be better with that? or wait till the htc hero comes out? another detail money isn't the issue in any of this Lol
I feel your pain...
I just went throught the same thing... I'm on ATT... see my post... I pulled the trigger on the Touch Pro 2... it wouldn't run on 3G... it didn't come with Voice Command... those two are deal killers for me... I use heavy data apps on my phone... I can't go back to 2G just for the sake of having the phone. I'll wait until ATT branded phone comes out... in the meantime (when I get my money back) I'm going to get a Apple I-Phone... If you are not heavy into speed.. then ok, if so, dont do it... its a horrible let down. the people selling the phone don't tell you the deal breaking details, they hope you will just live with it... NOT ME.. Len
TP2 is 3G in the UK, how come T-Mobile have removed it for the US?

If this is the biggest battle of your life, you've had a very easy life so far!
one benefit of buying it local is getting hardware issues fixed under warranty...
Before I purchased the TP2 I realised it wasnt going to be released in Australia for a while. I also realised that if I wanted the phone now, I'd need to order from overseas. It crossed my mind: what if there are issues with the phone. I dismissed those after I realised I had owned several HTC phones in the past and they were all fine.
I found myself with a faulty screen after getting my TP2 from Singapore. I contacted HTC, and its going to cost about 10% of the device's cost to send it off for repair via FedEx!
I'm a bit hesitant to send the thing off. I dunno how long I can live without it!

omg seriously?? have you even TRIED to look around this forum and read some of the posts?
THE EUROPEAN MODEL OF THE TOUCH PRO 2 DOES NOT HAVE THE NECESSARY BANDS TO SUPPORT 3G IN THE US.
ALL OF THE US CARRIERS WILL BE GETTING THEIR OWN RESPECTIVE MODEL OF THE TP2, WITH T-MO PROBABLY BEING THE FIRST. THEIRS WILL BE COMING OUT AROUND MID-AUGUST. AUGUST 12.
it's not that they removed it. they never made a European model that supported US 3G in the first place.
next time, before you ask a question like that, READ. PLEASE.

Htc touch pro2 ii unlocked t7373

Haven't been to this website in a while ... Been using an iPhone for about a year .. Tried some of the [supposed] iPhone killers. Xperia and others, but I didn't like them. I have this phone coming tomorrow ..
HTC TOUCH PRO2 II UNLOCKED T7373
Am I in the right place ?? HTC has so many phones. This one that I am getting is the European model, 2 cameras .. I was due for a free upgrade from Tmobile but that phone looked awful compared to this version .. Are the models different ? I don't think Tmobile has to cameras, I don't need 2 but if I can have 2, I want them.

Hi Diane,
The model you got (unlocked unbranded HTC TP2) will work here in the states, but I don't believe that you will be able to use T-mobile's 3G bands on it, so your data would only be EDGE (i.e. slower). Unless I'm mistaken, Tmo is the ONLY carrier in the world that uses their specific 3G bands, so unless you buy a phone branded by T-mobile, odds are you won't get 3G with it.
Now as far as the dual cameras....that's another thing that no US carrier has implemented, yet. The phone may have the camera, but if the provider you're using doesn't have that capability setup on their network, it's not much good to you I'm afraid. I believe I've seen some upcoming models for AT&T that advertise a front camera, so I believe they're about to introduce that capability...but as for now, none of the carriers here can do that
But yes, you're in the right place....every model of this phone is technically a "HTC Rhodium", no matter what carrier model (or unbranded) it is. So, these are the forums you want to be in, to learn more than you ever wanted to know about your new toy
Thanks for your reply and info. My Tmobile contract is up for renewal on this one. June for the contract that my HTC shift uses... I am wondering if I should renew or just go with ATT .. they seem to have better phones and better service .. anyone agree ??

The best people to ask that are the ones that live or work in close proximity to you...it doesn't really mean a hill of beans what anybody's reception is like anywhere but where you'll most often use the phone Find a friend with AT&T and compare coverage with them side-by-side in different places.
Be careful about switching carriers because one or the other seems to get "better phones"...that can change with the wind, and you may find the only one phone you really want, went to the carrier you chose not to go with lol. Also, carriers and manufacturers negotiate new agreements for almost every new phone that gets made, so one carrier may get several great new phones this quarter, but nothing truly decent for months and months, so...just pick your carrier based on your service needs (price, coverage, signal quality, etc), there will always be a way to get a phone you like no matter which you choose.
My service needs are simple. I don't care about 3G. But if I did, Tmobiles is different than anyone elses. I never really use the browser on my phone. I check my eBay auctions on my phone, but not with a browser. My iphone "has an app for that."
What disappoints me most about Tmobile is that not many of the new phones work with Tmobile. iphone doesn't. My iphone cost me about $700 because I had to get it from Italy where it was unlocked by Apple. I bricked my other one. The Blackberry Bold 9000 also wasn't unlocked for Tmobile. And there are others.
Even their website is HORRIBLE .. I have been with them for about 10 years. It is time I stopped waiting for them to get with the program.

[Q] SGH i257M on US AT&T

Has anyone used the SGH-I257M on US AT&T?
As I understand, it has the bands for multiple networks. The reason for asking is AT&T is dragging their feet.
Info I got from AT&T was that it has enough roll outs for Christmas and are not going to bring out the S4 Mini until January. My contract is up, S3 & S4 are too big for a pocket, I ditched my S3, I'm using an S2 clocked at 1.7 and gutted, nice phone, but time for a new toy to play with. I'm tired of waiting on the 'Mini', but flashable US Basebands will be unavailable for some time so I'm hoping someone has done this. More specifically meaning the 'non branded' SGH i257M and a functional LTE band 17. TIA

If you get an unlocked SGH-I257M from Canada it will work for AT&T with LTE. I got one as an early Christmas gift for my girlfriend and it works no problem. I just put her 4G microSIM from her old phone (Pantech Burst) and set it up. The only thing I had to do was add the APN for AT&T 4G. Also, I believe it was the ChatON app that would not work in the US but it wasn't important.
EDIT: Also, a question I was thinking of as well is, if when the AT&T version comes out (or the firmware at least) could the AT&T I257 firmware be flashed on an I257M? That would minimize any issues from the phone's software..

I appreciate the reply. That is good to know. Yeah, ChatON is of no interest. As for flashing, There are multiple reports that the 9195 ROM flashes OK on the M's, 9195 also adds the FM radio that is not given functionality in the M's but restored with the 9195 OS so I would assume the AT&T version should be no problem provided AT&T isn't pulling another non standard hardware version as they have in the past with some phones. (FCC filings don't indicate that) AT&T seems to have developed a phobia in recent years about their phones being retrofitted with new OS's. Also likely they are waiting for 4.3 or a Knox implementation in the deluded belief that it is secure. Thanks again for the heads up on function, looks like the price from Canada isn't too bad right now.

Hi. Thank you for sharing this. I actually just bought a Canadian i257M as well and now I'm waiting for it to get shipped to me. Question; do the samsung media apps work while in the US? For example, media hub, video hub and music hub? I ask because i used to own a GS4 from att and I purchased a lot of media on those apps and would like to continue using them if possible on the GS4 mini if possible.
Much appreciated!

You may have some disappointment, Samsung has switched to 'Samsung Hub' on the new phones, replacing the older Media hubs and interoperability suffers a lot. T-Mobile offers a Media Hub for their new phones, AT&T may as well since the Sammy app's leave so much behind. It's going to be a wait and see I suspect. With luck AT&T will have Media Hub apps instead of the newer Samsung replacements and all you will have to do is wait. It seems quite a few people have money tied up in the old system and that may keep it alive.
But other than that, all you need to get on line is write your carrier APN. The phone is turn-key as it is. I just got an 'M' and after gutting the OS, dropping in an APN and editing the Build Prop a little (not needed) it works great on US AT&T.
There are more and more of the i257M's turning up recently in the States and hopefully someone will be able to clarify the Media Hub issue more for you better than this.
Where are you guys getting unlocked 257Ms? I can't find anything on ebay and the internet suggests canadagsm may not be reputable.
Hi...wondering if you can help given you are on AT&T 4G LTE. My i257M arrived today from canadagsm and it appears rooted. Surprise, but maybe good. BTW...canadagsm handled this order ok, not great and not responsive, but they did deliver. Anyway so far so good, but I am also on AT&T 4G LTE and wondering how to edit the APN? Why? Right now I am only getting H+ connectivity. So wondering if there is a way to do this voa the hardware or only via software? Also, can you post the Build Prop? Lastly, due to rooted phones being disallowed on my company network I can only use a stock ROM.
Lastly, as I write this I ended up going into the boot ROM and which is not CWM and for the last 30 minutes and selecting install the volume up, the screen shows DOWNLOADING, DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!! However, I am not aware I am downloading anything and seeing this screen is a bit scary. I may mess with this a little more by the time anyone gets a chance to respond, so we will see.
Thanks in advance, malloy0

I just made a thread abouu this. Just picked up a i257m and on every kind of combination of rom I'm stuck at only h+. I spent a few hours on the phone with cs to figure out why after googling a few other cases similar to ours. Turns out att doesn't support unlocked phones so the account isn't setup to push lte. What others have done, and what I'm going to try to do tomorrow is pop the sim into an att phone thss can do LTE and set it up and switch back and it should follow.
Att were assholes and wouldn't setup a device on my sim temporarily to prove to me LTE worked on my account. We popped my dim into a display g2 that was getting LTE, and got only h+. So I told him to pop the display sim in mine to see if I can get LTE, it only triggered the LTE option in the settings but never popped up saying it was getting any.. Hmm
Edit: got lte working with a new sim! All works perfect on att!

Just wanted to throw in an update, I took the risk and ordered a 257M from CanadaGSM. Minor hiccup with the webpage didn't forward my address to their credit card processor, but they sent me an e-mail and a paypal invoice, and shipped out the phone the same day I paid. Quick customer service response time via e-mail, too (as in within a few minutes). It works great on Straight Talk, but I don't live in an LTE area so I can't test that till this weekend.
It rooted easily, and now it's running PAC.
Edited to add some information.

Good news for CanadaGSM...I too was leery, but after a few emails and phone calls they stepped it up big time. For now I have retired the S5 mini in favor of a Nokia Lumia 520 for $65!! Woo-eeee!! It's a super smooth phone. Apps are a little limited, but still have found everything I need except "stay awake" with charging. as for the S4 mini on LTE? No luck at all and expect one of two things...1) it's a locked Rogers phone and I am on AT&T, thus they will not allow LTE or the phone is not truly LTE capable.

Use the 9195 root method and 9195 roms, same phone just different lte bands.
What I did was use Odin to flash recovery then flashed the root kit then used the unlock app from the play store to be able to run att. Then I flashed my liquidsmooth and havent looked back!
I used Odin to flash philz touch recovery, then flashed the PAC nightly. Only issues so far are ROM related, like launcher preference and battery drain
Sent from my GT-I9195 using xda app-developers app

Are all non-sprint HTC One M8s the same?

I'm bailing on Sprint due to poor coverage and I'm thinking about going to T Mobile because I like their pricing model. I'm getting 7 day test drive IPhone later today. I'll be moving 5 lines to T Mobile and Adding a line. One of those is for my wife and she want and M8.
When shopping for an HTC One M8, is there any hardware differences that I should be aware of? I know to stay away from Sprint phones, but I'm unsure of Verizon. If I buy an AT&T or T Mobile branded phone, can I load the HTC stock ROM, or a T Mobile stock ROM and expect to get updates?
I'm not looking for a custom ROM as this is the wife's phone and I need to to be stable ans supportable without spending a bunch of my time on it.
For best performance buy a branded device. So if your going with T-Mobile get a TMO branded unit.

I think that is good safe advice. Especially when dealing with a wife phone. From a technical standpoint is flashing a T Mobile stock ROM on an AT&T phone the same as buying a T Mobile phone minus the support?
I dont have proof one way or the other, but one would have to think from a manufacturing stand point that making these a bit generic so that the ATT and TMO software work on the same hardware would make sense. When i had my M7 i flashed the GPe rom onto it and it worked well. Then put it back to stock TMO after a while.
So it would be the same scenario. I just dont know for sure 100% if there are any hardware differences between the two..
sorry i cant help out more..

If you care about getting earphones, don't get the t-mobile htc one m8. The t-mobile htc one m8 does not come with earphones. The other carriers at&t, verizon, sprint come with earphones except t-mobile. Why t-mobile version does not come with earphones is beyond me?

Keeping the Verizon Note 7 alive

Guys,
I don't know how many of us are left but I'm sure the numbers are few and I believe this might be the best forum on the interwebs for this. I have a serious question and I want a place I can get some ongoing feedback and interaction and I know you are up to the task!
My Onyx Black Note 7 (bestest/most favortitist phone I've ever held) was summarily hotlined late last month. I was successful in getting it turned back on only to have it happen again 1 week later. SAD. I re-activated my Note 3 and now have two devices I use daily which seems really dumb. I WANT MY NOTE 7 BACK!!! I have been reading about trimming SIM cards down to fit and see that some have had promising results.
I contacted a buddy who works in a Verizon corporate store and he said that trimming my Micro SIM, from my active Note 3, to Nano size and putting it in my Note 7 would work...but not for long. They will eventually hotline me again (darn IMEI).
So...who has done/tried this? How did it go? How long did it last?
After the big trim, my SIM won't work in my Note 3 any longer and I'll have to get a replacement. This doesn't sound like a game I want to play till Fall.
I would like to believe that at some point they might stop the hotline game but it's probably wishful thinking.
Thanks Team.
i kept mine too and it does make a cool little tablet. if i could get it back on verizon's network i most definitely would do so.
but another issue is this: i took the replacement and therefore have the PHE firmware and am unable to root. but even if i could root, who would put together a ROM for such a device? there are only a handful of people who are in this boat. but that said, root for the PHE firmware would be nice to have...
I recently just let my phone go. It isn't worth it in the end, unless you take the phone to another network or really, really want to deal with with the company as a whole. My phone was hot lined, just like everyone else's. I had another rep take the hotline off, and had the note working again for about a week till it was turned off again. After emailing the CEO, and eventually talking to corporate office, the woman over the phone offered me, at best, a free certified S4 with a $20 increase to my line access fee for a 2-year contract. This option would have costed me the price of another Note7 in the end. At that point, going up in the chain isn't going to get you a refund, nor will they allow the phone to work on the network.
In the legal realm, Verizon can't hot line a phone because they "feel like the device is dangerous". They can't hot line a phone because "they want too" either. They can only hot line a phone under whatever clauses warrant it. If you bring this information to a Verizon rep, and ask them to provide prove that the US CPSC specifically is forcing all cell phone companies to hotline the phone...blah blah blah they'll tell you cool get a lawyer and go up the chain. Even mentioning the term "voluntary" recall triggers them. The store i went into, actually just to give someone a hard time over the whole thing, physically stepped away from me when he saw my phone and the look on his face was utter disgust, like what am I still doing with it? But, whatever.
Beyond all the legality, the system itself is auditing accounts with valid ID's. Note7 IMEI's that is. If the system catches one on an active line, the phone will get hot lined. At that point, you have to find a tech rep who will switch it off, or just reactivate the device. Nobody knows how often or how long the system audit will stay on for, but its there and that can not be avoided. With the system in place, AND fighting an entire company who doesn't want another liability issue, its just over.
The two solutions that current work: Fight the system, or bring the phone to a prepaid network. I'm sorry, and I wish I could offer you more help. I mean hell, I was given the device for free and I still fought to keep using it. Long after the whole thing went down with the recall and everything.
Thanks for the replies.
Yeah it sucks.
I pre-ordered mine, spent week setting it up perfectly only to have to return it a month later. I then followed every forum and had every conceivable block in place in the end, to avoid some crippling malady (so far still 100% charging, no nag screen. Did these happen to any Verizon customers?) Then came the dreaded hotline. The first time I was hit, they directed all of my outgoing calls to my personal voice mail message making it impossible to even call customer support. I had to borrow a phone to call in.
And now... it's a gorgeous, joy to hold wi-fi tablet.
My hope is that they will stop this hotline nonsense at some point and I can do the SIM swap. I have read a couple of posts that swapping back and forth isn't all that difficult but even so, sounds like a PITA.
In the end I'm just sad about the whole situation but I'm sure a new and improved Note will lift my spirits and all will be right in my world again.
Cheers
has anyone done the rooting for the note 7 and had it fail in odin process what do i do so i may proceed and get it rooted successfully?
I'm doing the same exact thing as you: Using two devices daily.
I use my cracked Galaxy S4 for call & SMS (which is rarely) and my Note 7 for everything else.
Just waiting till the day I can buy the Galaxy S8 and only have to carry around one device.
My solution for using my VZW Note 7 was to put my tmobile sim in it. I got the Note 7 via work but always used it with my personal tmobile sim. I use my note 7 every damn day and have not been updated, blocked or even charge limited. I love my Note 7. I did get a V20 to replace it but that phone is horrid. I'll never give up my N7.
[A note 3 SIM won't work because it's too big, the chip part is larger than the entire Note 7 SIM. Those that have done this are using Note 4 or later SIMs.
Based on my research, you can successfully trim a Micro SIM down to a Nano SIM. You do have to cut through the metal but it will work.
Now another question; are you going to jump on an S8 (or plus) or wait till the Fall and hopefully a new Note?
Is Verizon's method based on the phone IMEI or build.prop device name? With root it's easy to change the build.prop and with Xposed there's an IMEI change module. Would this work?
I have 3 Note 7's, non are rooted yet. Not sure which updates they have but I'm going to try.

S8 plus FTW.
As long as it has a headphone jack.
If there's no headphone jack, Samsung is on my sh!t list.

Yep absolutely. The S pen is cool and all, but I haven't really used it in months.
I just hope Samsung integrates the GIF maker into the Galaxy S8 plus, that's the coolest function.
I'm still rockin my n7 fully functional... minus the crack on the back glass. So mad. They tried many things but I'm using it right now

They hot lined me. I turned it back on. They hot lined again. I went to turn back on and sim was zapped. So I clicked the little link to order a new sim for my n7 for free through VZ. It came and n7 works 2 plus weeks. Ordered a backup nano sim too. They'll quit

Exactly what I'm doing. Signed up for T-Mobile one and using their sim. I plan on using it till the note 8 is released
Went the whole month of February suspended, then I activated a s7 and switched the sim over to the n7. Been working since the first. Returned the s7, holding out til the s8 plus has been out awhile before jumping to that.

The s7 felt so slow and gimped compared to the n7. Can't go backwards in the smartphone world.

Hello Oyeve,
I was hotlined by Verizon and that was the last straw after a dozen years of business with them. I am thinking of doing the same thing as you, but I don't want to scare T-Mobile and run into the same hotline problem. How's it going on T-Mobile with your Verizon Note 7 since your post here?
Thanks,

After backing up my Note 7 and removing the SIM card, I am pleased to report that the dreaded OTA update I successfully dodged for months when I was a Verizon customer no longer appears after a hard reset (simultaneous press of Home, Power, and Volume Up buttons and then choosing factory reset from menu)!
