Flashing a rom for a diferent model will brick your device. Flashing a rom (in generally - e.g. CyanogenMod) will not affect the carrier (sim/net) lock. If your phone is sim/net locked you need a valid unlock code to use it with another carrier's sim.
Thank you and sorry for the question here I realized they asked to have questions placed in Q&A section I won't do it again.

do you understand your own question? Are you talking about sim unlocked phone? You are sim unlocked at this moment because you are on ATT. Are you asking about rooting your phone then? The bootloader is not locked on TMO G3. But like the answer given, you can not install a rom on an TMO phone that is not specifically developed that TMO phone. I have TMO G3 and swapped over to ATT several months ago. I was running a custom rom well before I switched to ATT but its a rom developed for TMO G3.
I suggest a lot of education before going down the rooting path and custom roms.
I have flashed a AT&T Rom on my T-Mobile phone. I had to flash the T-Mobile kernel after flashing the Rom, but it did work. I also had to go and configure the apn
I've done this on other phones, but have been scared to try it on my G3. No offense, but I need someone with more then 4 posts to verify this

hi guys,
Kindly advice if the E980 AT&T version (which is already unlocked) be flashed with another ROM. Will flashing any other ROM reactivate the Lock or create any other bootloader related issues????
I am planning to buy the At&T version from Ebay and the seller says its already unlocked. but i definitely want to update it asap and am unsure of LG's updates.
I live in India and the phone is from AT&T USA(Unlocked).
Sorry for a such a simple question.......but pardon my ignorance.

I think whoever you bought the phone from means it's NETWORK unlocked so it can be used on any carrier. You'll probably have to go through the steps of installing a custom recovery before you can flash other ROMs.

Thanks Neroga. Yeah you are right its Network Unlocked and I will have to install the Recovery(I guess its got to be the Lokified recovery).
My only concern was if the Network lock would get reactivated due to the installation of a new recovery or a new rom etc. and I have got my answer that it will not get reactivated by any such tweaks.

Hey there, I am thinking of getting the same unlocked phone. Are you getting it from the "merawireless" seller located in Kolkata? Let me know how the product is when you receive it.
Thanks.

I have a Verizon G3 that is unlocked with my AT&T sim card. When downloading device specific files do I want to use all Verizon files since it's a VS985 (Verizon Model #) or do I have to download stuff for AT&T model version. I assume I would use Verizon but I just want some assurance. If anyone could answer this for me I would appreciate it.

If you're still running the stock ROM that came loaded with Verizon software, you would have to download Verizon files. If you're running a different ROM then it's really at your discretion. You can try the AT&T files, but changing the SIM won't make a difference with the software of the phone

So basically once I have it rooted with recovery installed I can flash AT&T (D850) G3 custom ROM's? Thanks for the quick response.
No.
You cannot currently load a custom recovery except on the T-Mobile version of the G3. Even if you could, you couldn't install a GSM phone's firmware onto it and expect it to boot.

I just started using an AT&T branded G3 unlocked on Tmobile. I have no idea if I can flash Tmobile ROMs or if I need to stick with roms only built for AT&T? Someone please clear this up for me once and for all. Thanks!
I wouldn't flash anything thats not specifically made to work with your device. Tmobile g3 has an unblocked bootloader all other g3's are locked currently. Flash something thats not made for your specific device and you may have a paperweight.
I have searched and haven't found any info on how to do this, so please bear with me.
I recently purchased an AT&T LG G3 with the intention of unlocking it and putting it on T-Mobile. I unlocked it and it is now, for the most part, functioning. There are only a few issues: my MMS doesn't work at all and it has all of the AT&T stuff pre-installed. I wan't to download and install the base KitKat kernal on my phone, but I don't know where to get it and I don't want to risk bricking my phone.
So my questions for you are these:
1. Where can I get the base kernal for the LG G3?
2. Will installing that kernal cause any problems with my phone?
3. Are there any suggestions for something else I can do?
Thank you all!

How are you planning on flashing anything on a d850??
You cannot flash anything on the D850, because the bootloader is still locked. The kernel is stock so there is no need for change. Check your apn settings to see if there is a T-mobile apn, Google is your friend if it is not there.

The bootloader on this phone isn't stock. It has the AT&T boot logo, AT&T bloatware, and some AT&T configurations in the settings.

That is stock D850 from AT&T.
Unless you figured out a way to unlock the bootloader, which, someone asking these kinds of questions wouldn't be able to..

I'm new to this, but I'm not incompetent. I found this tutorial www dot androidrootz dot com/2014/07/how-to-unroot-lg-g3-all-variants dot html, my only question now is if I install the T-Mobile firmware will it in anyway damage the device?
Can't flash anything other than stock at&t firmware unless you wanna brick your device

I think what they are trying to tell you is:
1. only T-Mobile G3's have unlocked boot loaders
2. so only T-mobiles can be rom flashed
3. AT&T boot-loaders are locked, so you can not flash the rom.
Lol the irony. So he/she bought the at&t phone that comes with a locked boot loader (nothing to do with root) and wants to put it on T-Mobile that already have unlocked bootloader? Lmao... Read read and understand what you are asking before talking back to people that are trying to help you.

icon sets defined in build.prop not the bootloader. If you had bothered to look around here you would have seen at least two methods to change them back to stock. As for bloat, that is not bootloader either, just system apps.

Seems like you are very, very, very new. A bit less self confidence and more humility will help.

a friend of mine gave me a bad esn sprint LG G2 that he bought off on craigslist. It has the ZVE firmware and I succesfully rooted it using stumproot. I install all of cloudyFa's roms on it, but for some odd reasons it won't pick up my tmobile simcard. I go to "phoneinfo" and no matter what I switch it to from WCDMA preferred to GSM only etc.... it just keeps saying "emergenc calls only" So i'm wondering if it's because of the bad esn that's keeping it from recognizing my Tmobile sim card. Anyone can help me?

Try a regular unlock on the device first.
regular unlock?
when you say regular unlock do you mean have the device unlock through Sprint first? I don't think Sprint will give the unlock code because the Sprint LG G2 has a bad esn. If what you mean by regular unlock refers to modifying the software then unfortunately that is something I'm not really good at, but I'm a risk taker - I don't mind attempting to do the regular unlock even if the bad esn sprint Lg g2 gets messed up in the process. Is there anyway at all for you to show me how to do the regular unlock? I saw in another topic about using Rom Toolbox lite to change some stuff, but when I install the Rom Toolbox lite app I have no idea how to use it - it's all very confusing.

I went to the link as you suggested and I downloaded the file that you provided, but it would not let me copy the folder carrier. I follow all the directions that was provided on the link, but when I check the carrier folder on the phone I notice there are only two folders. While the carrier folder on the TotalCMD folder had like 6 folders plus a file.
Hmm, not being a gsm user, I am not sure. Was there any information in the thread of someone else with the same issue.
One thing I think they didn't say was you have to be on zv7 or zv8. Unless further in the thread it says other wise. Still reading.

when I was handed the bad esn sprint LG G2, I checked the firmware and it was on ZVE firmware then I used LG Flash Tool and downgraded it back to ZV8 firmware. I have successfully rooted it also now on the ZV8 firmware. My brother-in-law has a sprint LG G2 and his work for tmobile, but only thing is his Sprint LG G2 has a clean esn/imei and mine don't. So i'm assuming mine is not working because of the bad esn. Oh well I will keep on trying and figuring out how to make it work.
