Hey guys,
I wanna stay on stock Rom (without root) and I'm running now kitkat 4.4.4
Do I go for update or do I stay on kitkat? (Will performancmce be reduced and will battery llife be worst on 5.0.1?)

First of all, I would update. I'm enjoying Lolly myself. No performance problems, and batter life is as good or maybe better that Kit-Kat.
Second of all, What carrier/version are you running? If you have the OTA downloaded and not installed yet, it could be valuable to other users.
It's eu version. I heard that lot of users complain about lollipop battery drain...
that's why have I concerned

The problem with lollipop is that the kernel and system eat a lot of battery, or at least more than on kitkat. If battery life is your concern, I personally would not recommend going on lollipop till 5.1 hits and see if it's fixed
though how you use your phone will still make the biggest impact
That being said you can still get great battery. Usage for me never goes bellow 5 hours of screen time with games and 4g and around 7 hours without games and wifi. I could do better on kitkat but I'm satisfied. Check this thread for battery life. I enjoy lollipop though since I upgraded, but I can't wait for an update to 5.1 and better battery

I have had no problems with drain, whatsoever. I'm not stock though, but on the stock kernel.

Hi all,
I am new here so I hope this is the correct place for this question.
I ordered the Z1c and expect it to be delivered any moment, I already went to most threads regarding KitKat on the Z1c.
For me, battery life is the main reason why I choose this phone. It appears that updating the firmware of Z1c to the current KitKat version results in a big loss in battery life (and apparently also quite some bugs). Of course, I would like to update but I am in doubt if the advantages of going to Kitkat makes up for the loss in battery life.
In that respect, I have the following questions:
- How bigg is the loss in battery life if I update to the current version (757 in Begium I think)?
- Which official build number of Kitkat has the best battery life?
- What are the main advantages of updating to KitKat?
Thanks in advance
Regards
Dries
I'm on 757 firmware and I don't notice any big difference between KitKat and JellyBean battery life. I also didn't notice any bugs yet. However I am not constantly using my phone and usually get a bit more than 2 days of battery life.
I agree. There is a slight difference between 4.3 and 4.4, but it's not big. Most people won't even notice that. So I wouldn't worry about updating to 4.4.
Hi Zxz, Martan,
All questions evaporated with arrival of the phone: it came with KitKat 4.4.2 build 757 installed on it so keeping Jelly Bean is simply not an option.
Battery life seems very acceptable: I used about 25% toying with the phone, checking e-mail and downloading updates for some apps using WiFi yesterday evening. Over night, it lost only a few % in Stamina-mode including waking me up twice.
All in all, very happy with this phone. Runs very smooth and up to now, no bugs encountered. I expect to get several days out of it on a single charge and that was the aim from the start.
thanks for your replies

I want to start a poll and a discussion thread, also to help new users (and old users) to decide which ROM to use, if long battery life is the top priority in their choice of ROMs.
I myself have only used STOCK 4.1.2 JB, and STOCK 4.4.2 KK (E988), and I have tested both enough to convince myself that Stock 4.1.2 does have better standby battery life than stock kitkat.
But for the sake of greater completeness, I will include 2 more options in the poll: 4.4.2 Variants, and non-Kitkat Variants.
So based on your experience, which ROM has the best standby battery life for you?

In comparison to kk roms, I think stock jb is better in this regard. I would be curious to know how much better you found it in comparison to stock kk?

Based on battery monitor widget, I averaged 4.6%/hr drain on JB ROM, 6.9%/hr drain on KK ROM. Medium use through a typical day.
I'm getting decent battery on this kk that I've been using for the last four or five days.
People know I'm cynical about everything, and with that in mind, I think this Rom is better than others for battery life.
Unfortunately, Camera has stopped.

Yes but usually JBs have better battery life than KKs. (On the Note 2, this was much more obvious. And many of the custom KK have horrible battery life, both on the Note 2 and the OGP.)
I ran the stock JB on my phone and it was not too bad but this KK is somewhat better battery. I'm not saying that its mind blowing better, just a little bit.
The best battery life on any device I've ever held was the LG G2 running stock JB 4.1.2. Unbelievable.
Hello,
What Custom Rom you guys think its best for Battery Life and Stability?
I've been using CM11 for the last few months and now im Trying Omnirom. They are both stable and use the same battery.
I cannot try every rom, so im asking here for your opinion.
I very much doubt battery life would be any different because of ROM version.
It has more to do with individual usage patterns
&
BT On/active/streaming
Brightness level/Auto
Data On/updates/push services
Calls talk time
Text/chat apps
Wi-Fi/Hotspot on/active
I'd say if your getting nearly 2h's of screen on time then the ROM is just fine.
There may be others getting more, but it all depends on how you use your device.
I don't mind charging my phone 2-3 times throughout the day(to help keep it topped up), I don't use Wi-Fi since I have unlimited data, unless it's for a large occasional download (testing new ROM/apps) have auto app updates and push services on) and leave BT on to automatically connect to my car stereo and start streaming music and also always leave auto brightness on.
Personally, I have tried lot's of different Custom Roms, and to be honest, none of them are as good as Stock 4.3 in terms of battery life and stability. Yes, other ROMs offer additional features and Android Versions that would otherwise be unavailable, but are mostly less stable, more laggy and have worse battery life. If you want customisation, you can root and use Xposed Framework.
That said!.. the best custom ROM that I have used is both FML Kitkat and FML Lollipop by MWisBest.

Recently I went back to 4.2.2 (Verizon) because no roms I could find had decent battery life. I started using greenify to help with memory, as I find that soon as it gets to about 100mb free, the lag is terrible.
So in your opinion FML Kitkat vs stock on battery is worse? I briefly tried FML Lolipop but felt it was too early in dev and buggy
thx,
riz

Yeah, I've always found that stock Jelly Bean has the best battery life. But your experiences may vary with usage.
I have used CM11, PA, Shiny ROM and FML so far. I cannot compare them to stock, since I haven't used stock due to lack of customization features.
IMO, Shiny ROM + Dirty V Kernel with Nephilim's settings had the best battery life. On standby, my phone ran for more than 2 days without a single charge. Performance was decent, although I wouldn't say that it was ideal.
I'm currently running on the latest FML Lollipop + Smitty L Kernel with Nephilim's settings. The battery life is decent, with about a day and a half standby time. Performance is fantastic. If you value both battery life AND performance, you might as well give this a try, as it is definitely worth the effort.
So bought this phone brand new a week ago for £300, and i like it a hell of a lot, i've been eyeing it up for ages but didn't have the money to get it. It came with KitKat and i updated automatically to Lollipop, i've tried a custom stock rom and everythings fine but my battery life is not that good, i've seen people saying that KitKat was a lot better battery wise anybody experience this as i didn't really stay for my kitkat experience lol. Many thanks

yes battery was better on kitkat, but with the new custom kernels(chupachups and rin kernel) the battery life is about the same as on kitkat
What's the most stable and battery-friendly Lollipop custom ROM and kernel combination for the Z1C at the moment?
I've lost track after months of not upgrading my phone and would appreciate some pointers. Thanks!
I would recommend to not use LP if you are out for battery life.
KitKat, especially this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/development/rom-d550314-4-0-108latest-t2862578/page59 has the best battery life. I downgraded a while ago after it sucked down my battery every day and doesnt provide any advantages...

I agree with doenen.
Updated to 5.0.2 OTA (coming from 1 day old 4.3) and had a poor battery life. LP drained my battery from 100% to 30% in one day (12h) of occasional whatsapp, facebook and browsing.
I downgraded to Kitkat 4.4.4 (14.4.A.0.157_R2C, see here) and now I got from 100% to 20% in 3! days with the same activity (WLAN on, occasionally mobile data on, whatsapp, facebook and some chrome, airplane mode at night).
Kitkat is currently my favorite as battery life is one of my top priorities.

I generally agree but I'm currently using prerooted stock 5.0.2 and can easilly reach 2 days od battery life with the right use of Greenify and Amplify combination as well as stamina mode. I recommend you to have a look at those threads:

Thanks for your advice, but since I just purchased my Z1C I wanted to stay as close to stock as possible (also in case I need to make use of the warranty - though I am aware that my downgrading may already have voided that, but I decided to take that risk).
Thanks for the advice, guys! I'd rather be using a CM based ROM, rather than stock, cos I don't like the Sony interface too much. Are KK/LP ROMs that are based on CM that considerably worse at battery life than the stock versions?

I can only give you my experience with the Galaxy S2. I flashed CM11 Kitkat and the battery life was the same as with stock Jellybean.

I was using CM 12.1 nightlies for about 3 months and I can tell you it requires a lot of tweaking to make it battery friendly (I mean A LOT) and it still wasn't even close to KitKat or even stock Lollipop I'm using now. If you consider staying on KitKat I highly recommend this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2743177. It's not updated for some time but it worked for me for almost a year and battery life was great.

+1 for KitSlim_AMG, if you enable conservative governor and disable a few things in play services, you should get three day battery easily.
Problem with LP is wakelocks. If you have a messenger installed, it will keep the mobile radio active all the time.
Just flash a ROM with built in wakelock blocker (eg AICP) and you're good. My battery life improved on LP since it uses ART.
Miui works great too!! Two days and more are really well for me

I've actually been using the old version of the MobileActiveRadioFix for a while now, with success I might say. Good to hear it's getting updated.
Two months since I switched to LP and I first tried stock ROM, then on AOSP.
Thanks to the stamina sony feature, I hardly noticed any faster battery drain between KK and LP stock ROM.
But with AOSP rom the story is quite different !
I've found this really interesting post ([GUIDE]Extreme Battery Life Thread(Greenify+Amplify+Power Nap))
But battery life is still not at stock ROM's level
the best ROM for battery life has to be stock. I'm on stock 5.1.1, with moderate usage 30% battery life gets used up per day
I'm on Xposed but didn't need to use greenify or amplify either. just use the stock STAMINA mode, activate to always-on, whitelist the apps that you want to continue to receive messages when screen is off
