Months ago I rooted and flashed a lollipop stock ROM. It's worked flawlessly ever since, so I doubt it's the cause of this problem.
Suddenly my (international) G3 has started doing a cycle of freezing, rebooting, staying awake for a few seconds and then freezing and rebooting again. This started happening this morning, while using the "reddit news" app. I don't think it's related to the issue. Now, after a few hours, it's stopping the boot cycle at the LG logo, and it doesn't seem to go anywhere from there.
Previously, when it did boot and stayed awake for like 10 seconds, it showed some strange behaviour. Wifi didn't turn on, the phone got pretty warm, and whatever mode of USB connection I chose, USB debugging never turned on despite being enabled in the developer options.
"adb devices" in windows cmd doesn't show anything in any part of the cycle, so I can't take a logcat. The phone isn't awake for long enough to do it on the phone either. How can I find out what's suddenly causing this? Has anyone else experienced it? Trying a hard reset via pwr + vol down just shows me the LG logo again.
Does it still go into download mode when you press volume up and plug in usb cable?

I assume so. I've never used it before so I'm not sure what it looks like - but I do see a little box in the middle of the screen saying "Download Mode", with a little graphic underneath.

So i've looked around and no one that i've seen has the same exact problem as i do. Here's my post in another forums about my problem.
Here's my story about my Galaxy s2 for T-mobile. My phone randomly turned off 2 days and whenever i tried to turn it on, it would restart and basically never get pass the blue loading bar screen. Second, i found out about this boot loop sequence and i was able to do a factory wipe.
After i factory wiped the data etc off the phone, i was able to use it until it ran out of battery, but then after i found out it ran out of battery, it wouldn't let me turn it back on, it wouldn't get pass the loading screen, once again. On the other hand, i am able to go to recovery mode or download mode, but the phone shuts off before i can even try and click on the options i want.
Today, i found out that if i kept pressing power button consecutively on the phone, I'd be able to go to my home screen and basically act as if nothing ever happened, it'd function as a new phone! I then had the nerves of turning off my phone just to make sure it finally works now, but my hopes were crushed and now the pressing the power trick does not even work anymore. It would probably work one out of 10-15 times, and in the end it'd still restart. I am using a gingerbread galaxy s2. My friend tried using the usb jib on my phone, and it worked but whenever he tried to plug in the usb, the phone would just restart. I am extremely frustrated with this, and if you can help, please do so because it's important that i fix this phone. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!
Hi there, thank you for the welcoming me to the forums. No, my phone is not rooted, it has always been gingerbread etc i never tried rooting because i never knew how:/ I believe this started when i was just browsing around facebook, so i'm not entirely sure what happened... Uhmm i tried going to download mode through the volume keys and power button when it's connected to usb to the i think it's odin3? and it'd be in the download mode but as soon as the computer says it's connected, the phone would just turn off again and bam, it's like nothing ever happened. My phone does charge when it's plugged in, but it doesn't show it's being charged but i remember my battery was dead last night and i charged it till today and now it's got power. ANd no i don't have a warranty:/ i really hope you can help me
Sounds like a faulty power button. Check out Mobiletech video for thier power button repair service.

Ok i got a wierd one, currently running Flinney Cm 10 test build 121, and today i went to play with phone and battery was dead so i plugged it in and came back a couple of hours later and attempted to turn on phone. It took a long time pressing the power button before it booted. I let it sit to finish loading startup processes, backlights shut off, couple minutes later i hit trackball to wake and nothing, I then proceeded to the power button, still nothing. Ive pulled battery and repeated with no luck. So i started to do some reading and found a thread stating to get into bootloader mode by holding trackball and pressing power, this worked, (only one time) so i decided to just reboot device which it did and i did not let it go to sleep this time. I proceeded over to settings/display/screen timeout and set it to 30 mins. I was kinda thinking that the rom that i am running has got some sort of screen of death or sleep of death so i started to download cm9 and set down phone. With in five minutes i looked down at phone and WTF it was off again.( yes i am sure it had battery life last i looked it was at 67%) Now i cant get it to turn on get into recovery mode, dowload mode, or bootloader. When i plug phone in i get the orange led blinking followed by a green led flashing. Ive tried adb NADA i type adb devices and the phone shows up serial is listed followed by the word "recovery", now when i plug in my other phone to adb it shows up but is stated as "device" not recovery. Anyone have any input. I have been searching for a while and found nothing to help. Are there any one click programs that i might have overlooked ( Heimdall Exe) Sorry for long read but i am stumped
Try another battery. Have had it happpen on an old cliq sorta like your issue and poped in a new battery and no more worries.
what an easy fix DUHH
So I installed Greenify last night, I have no idea if it has caused this but it was the last thing I did before my phone went kaput so I am working on that theory now. Last thing my phone did was have the bar "Greenify has been granted SuperUser" or words to that effect and then hung. I tried a reboot at this point by holding down the power button for 10 seconds, screen turned off but phone did not reboot. From that point my phone has been completely unresponsive.
The phone registers as there when plugged into my PC, but doesn't show up to move files to/from. Also when plugging in a UTG cable the phone powers external devices. I am thinking at this point of running the battery down till the phone HAS to switch off and then plugging it in and seeing if anything different happens. Any other advice would be appreciated.
I have encountered this when I tried ART instead of Dalvik. if you use ART, I would suggest you try Dalvik.

My phone did the same after installing the Root companion for GSAM battery monitor. Like you said it at least responded when the usb cable was plugged in. So it was fortunate enough that I could just open the command prompt and reboot the device with adb commands.
adb reboot
You can restart your phone manually. Press the vol up and power button together and hold until the phone reboots. It will take a while so just wait.
I have a Google Galaxy Nexus and was using it last night (8/11)--it was a bit slow, as it has been for a few weeks, so I shut it down and hope restarting may help. When I started it back up, it was stuck on the "Google" word for about an hour and then I suppose lost power. I was not near a computer to plug it in.
When I got home, I plugged it into my pc to charge, then read online to hold down Power + Up + Down, which I did. I got to the Recover console with the "start" and little Android guy and the white arrows. However, no matter what I press (power, up, down) nothing happens. I cannot get past this screen. Also, my pc was trying to find drivers for it and couldn't. What should I do? And is there a way to preserve anything on the phone? I have not modified the phone in any way (rooted or whatnot).
I think you cannot move between options because the bootloader is locked. Can't say 100% that's the cause of it though.
Thank you for replying. If that is the case, how do I fix that?
And after it ran out of power, I charged it again and tried starting it normally and it started. So I have no idea what is going on. However Im now afraid to restart it in fear it will be stuck on the logo again. It still runs a bit slow.
So I guess I have 2 questions:
1) If I have to load it into recovery again and no buttons work, how do I fix that?
2) Since it did start again, but runs slow, what could be going on? Any tests I can run?
Thanks!
Hello,
My wife's Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact with model number H8324 has an issue with booting or maybe the launcher getting stuck in a loop after getting to the lock screen for a split second.
The phone seems to boot like normal and gets to the lock screen, we are even able to punch in one or two digits of the 4 digit pass code. Then it goes into a loop of the notification bar and back button flickering. From then on the phone is not responding except for the power button which brings up the normal "Turn off, Reboot, and Lockdown" menu. The issue just started out of nowhere yesterday morning and we haven't been able to fix it yet. We haven't done any rooting or custom rom flashing, it's running the official Sony software but it's out of warranty.
Here's a video showing the issue. The video shows the whole boot process but the link takes you to the last part after the logos.
We would love to get some files off it so if there is a way anyone can help us with that we'd prefer it over a hard reset.
Things we've already tried
Turning the phone off and on again
Unlocking the phone in the split second the lock screen works, this is just too short to swipe up and then put in four digits.
Rebooting the phone
Booting while charging
Booting into safe mode (this has the same issue)
Connecting the phone with USB to a pc, the phone is recognized by Windows, but it doesn't share it's filesystem with Windows.
Connecting the ADB to it, alas usb debugging is not yet enabled on the phone
Trying to get into recovery mode, we haven't been able to get into the recovery menu. Googling seems to indicate it might be holding volume up + power button when the phone is off but then it doesn't seem to do anything at all.
We're currently trying to run out the battery of the phone to see if that will resolve the issue on it's own.
If anyone has any idea, we would love to hear it.
no solution from me. But I have exact same problem and tried same things. Yesterday I did not used the phone. Day before shut down, today tunred it on and it starts with the issue. Strange it happens to both of us at the same time frame. removing sims did not help either.
By holding down "volume down+power" I was able to boot in safe mode but the same issue occur; no way to get into the phone.
Yeah that's weird. Draining the battery did nothing for us. There was not much data that we wanted to extract from the phone. Most of it was contacts and an emulated Pokémon game save file. So my wife eventually reflashed the OS with Xperia companion which did actually resolve the issue of not being able to use the phone.
I faced the same problem today ,i have xz2 , yesterday it was 24% and today i found it 0% so I put it in the charger ,but I faced this problem
