WIMBoot For Surface 2 (RT) Guide - Windows RT General

WIMBoot for RT devices.
You can build it yourself. The complete guide is here, http://tech.myonlylonely.com/wimboot-for-surface-2/(This article is based on a post in PCBeta, http://bbs.pcbeta.com/viewthread-1576145-1-1.html.).
I'm the author of this article. And it also provide a built recovery image for you to reset your device to a wim boot implementation state. Both the guide and the recovery image is in simplified Chinese, but you can add your own language pack into that image or build your own image. The image is only for Surface 2, but you can follow the guide to build it for your Surface RT and other RT devices.
Please use it at your own risk!
Edit:
I have translated my article into English. New Link: http://tech.myonlylonely.com/wimboot-for-surface-2-en/.

So you are making a Windows RT install image with a smaller footprint, right? How much space are you saving? Or is there some other benefit that I'm missing?

There is no other benefit. For those who has a 32G device, it can save a lot of space. I post this just because it is possible. You could use it or not.

I realized after reading my question again that it might seem like it had a negative tone. Sorry about that. I was really asking so I could understand the reason for making such an image, as I have a 32gb device myself.

That's OK. The benefits: 1. You can save space. 2. And you still can recover to an origin state without making a recovery flash drive. If you read the Technet article to learn how it works you can understand why it can save space and still can recover to an origin state without a flash drive at the same time. Here is the article: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn594399.aspx.

== MOD EDIT ==

== END EDIT ==
Hi there,
First of all! Great forum! You guys have build a great community and I like it. But I hope you can help me with this. i know there are a lot of threads about this, but because all the different type of phones/android versions ect... I don't know what to do...
My question, how can I get Adroid running on my HTC Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium). I have the standart version, so not a branded one.
I've tried to install it but android won't launch. Maby one of you could create a mini tutorial or a noob tutorial, because I think there are more people like me (with less knowedge of phone tech) who want to run android on their phones. I hope you could help me!
Thanks!
Kind Regards,
Sami

Haret is part of the android program. (haret.exe)
You can either use a file explorer to navigate to storage card/android/haret
or with the .cab installs (anything after 2/22) you will get an icon in your start menu.

Hi Thanks I've used that thread but used the wrong cab. Didn't know that rhod100 is the standart version
Thank you! It works now, but is it a known problem that you cant fill in the correct code (PIN code for your SIM?).
And second I can't charge my battery with the usb cable is this also a known problem?
Thanks

I have Android installed on my phone and it works fine except one MAJOR thing. I messed up the touch screen calibration and now I can't use the touch screen in android and I cant figure out how to recal the touch screen in android.
Got it. i just deleted the ts calibration file from the android project folder and started android again.

Ok man maybe you can help me out with the problem im having. I go to file explorer and i launch Haret.exe and it immediately takes me to the linux booting page with the penguin at top. But it soon stops saying "Cant access tty. Job control turned off. And it doesnt move from there. What am i doing wrong?
delete all the contents from the .cab file you downloaded, make sure your memory card has wiped any remaining files from the original download, re-install and make sure you are downloading the correct .cab file for your handset, install to memory card and try again.
Yo Ihwparis chill out. This is a forum for information trading and gathering. Everyone was a noob at one time or another including you and asked questions that have been asked a million times already. Stop treating people like idiots. Help them or stop reading the thread. Someone else will help them out. It's not that serious. I can tell you one problem here that I encountered was a thread would be started and trail off into someting completely different never answering the first question. After reading pages upoon pages you get nothing. Some people like myself have real lives and real jobs and dont have time to sit here and read every post. If you take it so serious maybe you should sticky an informative how to guide and maybe that will stop people from bothering you so much.

I was actually on XDA for about 6 months, reading, before I finally decided to even MAKE an account, because I didn't want to be "That Noob". It was about another 6 months to a year before I posted anything at all. As you said yourself, most questions have already been asked a million times. This means that it is only a matter of reading, before you find someone that has asked the same question. In most cases once you find the question, and read a little further it leads you to the answer. He was smart enough to post in the correct sub-forum, which means he must have read through the forums a bit anyways. It wouldn't have taken much more work to read the top 3 sticky threads in that same sub-forum, and find the answer to the question.
I can get the whole thing to load however I cannot ever get the start screen (touch the androind to start) to ever let me touch it. The only thing that works is the keyboard input. Any suggestions?

Doesn't matter how real is it, you can't use it anyway (except graphics and sounds) because of many, many reasons.
OK, this is from Microsoft's XDE emulator, I'm 95% sure of that

Forum redirecting via anchor

Have seen this on other type forums, but haven't figured out yet, how does it work here.
Redirecting to some part of text in one post can be done via anchoring. At least it was so on SMF forum.
There I used [iurl=#sometext][/iurl] for the link and [anchor=sometext][/anchor] for the place, where it has to redirect to.
Now, this is not SMF and I haven't found a working way for this. HTML and PHP codes, which I also have tried, do not work. If I try [ HTML] and [ PHP], then these comes in the boxes.
This is, where is the link
HTML:
Text to be shown
and this is, where it should direct to
HTML:
<A NAME="anchor">Text to be shown</A>
You get the point, right?
Is here a way to get it working also? I have a tutorial, which is already quite long, but not complete yet. It would be easier for readers to just click the part of the tutorial they want instead of scrolling through bunch of text.

This isn't currently available at XDA, but one way you can do it is to break your guide/tutorial into sections, and put each into a separate post, and hotlink to the post directly.
You can get the permalink from the post number at the top right (copy the target URL)

Porting Firefox OS to FP1

Continuing the discussion from Firefox OS is the way to go!
Hi guys!
I am new to xda-devs, but have been visiting it for useful information in the past.
I own a FP1 (First Edition) and am seeking to port FFOS to the FP1.
I do not have any developing experience, I have just done C and Java and I am comfortable with Linux's CLI.
I am following this guide: Porting Firefox OS
Currently I am stuck at the following: Create a manifest for the new device
[edit]
Which changes do I have to make to the hamachi manifest mentioned there?
I figured out, that most of the stuff is hamachi-specific and thus not required. My current manifest is attached. Could you please take a look and tell me, if this is enough?
These files are at hand:

Well there already is a recovery file for the fp1 + fp1u by chrmhoffmann up and running. The MTK6589 source code is kind of released and there has been a lot of work on the android code by the omnirom project, which might come in handy.
Should be definitely manageable to build and try out Firefox OS on the FP1. UnfortunatelyI'll just don't have the time to really dig into that. Maybe someone with a bit more experience can give it a shot. I'd love to see and try out the result...

Yes, the config.sh got stuck at like 93%.
Also I have no idea, what exactly I have to include into the manifest file. I think I need a toolchain, but I am not sure where to get one, and how to apply it. (I somehow know what it is though, I think... )
Ok, running the config.sh comes at the very end, so I probably should continue with the configuration tree[1]...
Does everything in here [2](@chrmhoffmann's repo android_device_fp_FP1) go to the configuration tree?

No haven't been able to work on this.
I still have no idea, where and how to build this configuration tree. Do you have advice on this?
Thank you, Stefan
Fyi, a build is now available. As a new user on XDA, I can not post link here (what a ****ty rule), but check bug 1139642 on bugzilla and search Fairphone on the Mozilla Developer Network (MDN) to have more info.
Wrong phone (FP1(U) vs FP2)
The build, you are referring to, is for FP2, not for FP1.
A Firefox OS for FP1 could possibly be built using the source by @chrmhoffmann: http://forum.xda-developers.com/fairphone/orig-development/rom-fairphone-fp1-kitkat-4-4-2-t3243623

Windows 10 build 15035 for Surface RT

Source: BetaWiki
It would be super cool if this community managed to create a working image for the OG RTs (de-bombed & with correct drivers). Anybody here who could share the leaked image with us?

Well I manage to get the file. Its not iso its a zip. But I have honestly not Idea what to do with it, and I try in all inventive ways, LOL!. I could make a torrent file if any its interested on. With the compromise on do a tutorial later if some one manage to do anything with it.

PM you in a moment!
I've been trying to get this running on Surface 2, the way I've been trying with this is a dual boot with RT 8.1 and I've partitioned my device to allow roughly 12GB for the Windows 10 installation.
Unfortunately there is an issue with nvpep causing a BSOD that is beyond my abilities to solve, without nvpep nothing else will work. I don't have a Surface RT to test with but I read that this issue does not manifest on those devices, however it still won't work out of the box.
I've pieced together some information that might be of help if your trying to install that applies to RT and 2.
Make sure secureboot debug policy is applied and don't forget to enable testsigning and nointegritychecks. If you have Jailbreak killing updates installed its probably faster to factory reset your device.
You will need to replace sdbus.sys and ststor.sys in \Windows\system32\drivers\ with versions from RT 8.1.
You will need to edit the registry on build 15035 to disable UAC - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System - EnableLUA set value to 0.
Before booting 15035 you will need to create new directory on EFIESP in \EFI\Microsoft\Recovery and then create an empty BCD Store in that location.
If you don't add the Surface 2 drivers it will actually boot to the desktop but no devices will work (Pretty much every device requires nvpep up and running first), you can play around with it using a USB keyboard and mouse but its a little pointless at the moment.
Would it be possible to share the build with wider community, so more people can have a shot at getting it up and running? I know I would love to play around with it.

Please make no mistake on the significance of said leak. There is no other known more-recent ARM 32bit Windows 10 build available on the Internet. The driver hacking community could appreciate a more open leak very much (just look at what it did to the Lumia 950/XL hacking scene around gus33000).. Sites like uup dot rg-adguard dot net fail to list this build.
