[Q] How Can I Sim Unlock without a code? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to SIM unlock a T-Mobile HTC One M8 without getting a code? The phone is S-Off and Super CID. I understand that I can get a code from T-Mobile but I wanted to know if it's possible to unlock the phone without contacting T-Moble or getting a code from someone else.
Thanks!

Super CID = Unlocked

If you have Super CID, your phone is basically unlocked. You should be able to use on other carriers without a problem as long as it's got a clean IMEI (never reported stolen, etc).
I also have a T-Mobile M8. I did Super CID (CID = all 1's) and was able to successfully use it on AT&T network.

My phone does have all 1's for its CID but when I try a SIM from another carrier, I'm prompted to enter a code. Everything on the phone appears to be locked after inserting the SIM card. The same SIM card was tried in my wife's Moto X with no issues. Any ideas on what might cause this?

There is a difference between the CID "locked" (which relates to which firmware/software the phone will load while S-on), and SIM locked (which relates to which SIM cards are allowed). The phone's bootloader manages CID locking, while the radio firmware manages SIM locking.
If you are brave (or stupid), there is a method that used to work for S-off'ed phones, but it quit being safe at some point. If your phone's firmware is old enough, you might try it. I did it to my M8, and it worked fine, but I'm on AT&T and they never bothered to release an update beyond what the phone shipped with. That said, note that there are reports of permanent lockouts on 4.4.4 and later firmware, so only attempt it if your phone is still running something prior to that (4.4.2 or 4.4.3). It goes without saying that you should tread carefully, but I'll point you to the forum post.

Otherwise, it's the standard rigamorole for getting a SIM unlock code just like always.

Well darn. I'm kicking myself for not looking into this when I first got the phone a year ago. I've already upgraded the phone to 4.4. Guess i'll have to wait and get the code.

[Q] Canadian Virgin WFS

Anyone unlock one of these? I seem to remember reading somewhere a few months back Bell (who now owns virgin) saying they will never unlock it.
However I see that there are "WWE" branded unlocks for my version, wtf?
Here is the url of the exact phone I have - http://www.virginmobile.ca/en/phones/phone-details.html?model=HTCWILD&colour=White
Please no "I unlocked my DerpCellular wfs, you can too!!" stupidity that most of these threads digress into, either you have the exact phone or not. Anyone who lives in Canada and deals with Bell will understand why this needs to be asked
Hey, another virgin canada user.
i have that exact phone (same colour too) with virgin. Mine unlocked just fine via the htcdev unlock. You just need to select the "Bell Mobility WWE" RUU when unlocking it.
unlocked and rooted. bye bye useless bell apps.
be sure to notice that the unlock does a factory reset. back your stuff (contacts!) up before you start on it.
So when you say unlocked using the DEV tool, does that mean its network and sim unlocked? Also just curious, I have a Bell SIM card, can I use this in this phone without unlocking the network/sim?

nope, the htcdev bit only unlocks the bootloader. the sim lock and all the other bits of s-on remain in place. you'll need an xtc clip or an unlock code if you want the ditch the network shackles.
as for the virgin->bell, no idea. there seems to be conflicting information on whether bell/virgin sims are interchangeable or not. some people report it works, other report it doesn't.

Excellent, I was NOT expecting to be able to do this.
And now for a stupid question, what is a good way to back everything up for a quick reinstall?
AFAIK, There isn't one really, other than exporting your contacts and writing down all your apps names, as all the real useful backup methods require root.
OTOH, unless you like customizing extensively, it should only take a day or two to get things back to normal.

Question about Network Unlock

Hello all,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S III from AT&T.
I plan on traveling so, I wanted to unlock it. I followed the steps on Android 4.1.1 I believe and it seemed to work (my menus looked identical to the tutorial I followed, but I don't have another SIM to test with). But, I have had the phone for a while and it is really sluggish, so I backed it up and decided to do a hard reset. The phone is running much smoother now, but I did do an AT&T software update which brought it to Android 4.3, and now when I look at the menu after typing *#197328640# and following the steps, when I get to Network Unlock, it looks different. Did the update relock my phone to the AT&T network. Is there a way to verify? Should I just hard reset again and stick with 4.1? Pleas let me know as soon as possible as I am traveling soon.
Thanks for all the help
If your phone was unlocked using any method, it should not relock. You can test it with a non att sim.

How do I test if I don't have access to a non ATT sim, I have one Korean SIM card, but I don't know how to test with it because it is not currently being serviced.
Put in the non-ATT sim, power up the phone. If it does not ask you to enter an network or carrier unlock code, the phone is unlocked.

it shows no signal, but does not ask me for a network or a code. So it should be fine right?

SimUnlock

Hi all, I recently bought a new htc one m8 on vodafone ireland. I'm on a different provider so i bought an unlock code on line and it didn't work i got (incorrect password). I haven't registered the phone on any network as of yet (its brand new). My question is, Do i need to activate the phone on vodafone first, Then put in a working foreign sim to unlock with code i received from online provider?
Generally speaking, no, you don't. If it came from them, then it's already locked to them by default. You just need to enter the proper unlock code with the new sim. Another option to consider is that pretty much all M8s can be made s-off now(albeit for a small fee for the app that does it). Once you're s-off, you can just sim unlock it yourself without the need to purchase any codes. That's what I did. The instructions are here in the forums.

Thanks, Thats what i thought. The provider i bought the unlock code from told me to activate the phone on vodafone, Then put in a foreign active sim and it should work. But i put the code in incorrect 4 times, twice cause i thought i put it in incorrect and another 2 times to record it(take pictures to get a refund for wrong code). Do you know how many times you can enter the incorrect code before blocking the phone?
To be honest, I'm not really sure...I want to say about 5-10 depending on your device, but again, I'm not really sure.

If you go with SunShine to S-Off you don't need to unlock using HTCDev, as the latest version of SunShine performs the unlock as well as the S-Off without HTC knowing and without loosing APPs in /data such as calculator and flashlight.

[Q] HTC one m9 unauthorized sim card

Hello guys, sorry to bother. I am contacting you to see if someone can help me, i´ve searched and searched the web without any luck. Almost three weeks ago i got here in Mexico an HTC one M9 from Telcel, I have two mobile phones two lines one telcel one iusacell. I needed to change the iusacell phone but did not like what they had. I got the telcel phone HTC one m9, and it was unlocked from telcel, i put my iusacell sim and worked great. Strangely after two weeks, the screen intact, with not a bump and a glass cover, internally failed and i sent it to a authorized center from the provider, they sent it to HTC and HTC sent me a brand new phone.
This new HTC one m9 works perfect with the telcel chip, i inserted the iusacell chip and it gave me message "UNAUTHORIZED SIM CARD, EC calls only". I assumed it was normal, went and bought the unlock code and tried to enter it, but i noticed it never popped the network unlock screen, it always pops the UNAUTHORIZED SIM CARD EC CALLS ONLY" message on the main screen and the only thing it lets me do with the iusacell chip is place emergency calls. no codes, not even to check imei.
I´ve been looking for support with no help, when entering the unlock code and hitting call (no ok button) it tells me its not an emergency call.
Searching i found that its probably that in the service menu (mode) they deactivated the network unlock screen, but i have not found how to get into the service mode of the phone, everywhere for older htcs they say its *#0011# but no luck, the only codes that work are the *#*#4636#*#* and the 3424 but none of them help me.
What can i do? I prefer to use my iphone for that line and use this phone for my other line which is on a different carrier.
Any ideas or help?
cheers and thanks
Ivan
They gave you a new phone, new motherboard and it's not unlocked. I would assume. It'll probably need to be simple unlocked again. With the first phone you had to request that it be unlocked right?

Strangely enough the first phone i bought came unlocked, i had purchased online the unlock code but when i inserted another sim i did not require it. The problem with this replacement M9 is that although i´ve already bought the unlock code the screen never prompts for the network unlock code. When i insert a different sim that from the carrier (telcel) it prompts an "UNAUTHORIZED SIM CARD; ER CALLS ONLY", i´ve inserted IUSACELL MEXICO SIM, ATT USA SIM
TMOBILE USA SIM all with the same result.
cheers
Ivan
I know with the T-Mobile phones, or at least I'm pretty sure, we have to flash an international rom to get that screen to come up. Kinda sucks but maybe that's the problem?

Thanks I was considering it, i think its a possibility, although, i havent searched much but there is still no way to free the bootloader of an HTC one M9 and im sure myne is pretty locked up =(

You can unlock it or s-off , but a-off is $25. Unlock is free on HTC Dev unlock. It's pretty easy, have you used HTC dev unlock before?

I used ARHD to unlock my T-Mobile m9. Prior to that I also wasn't getting the option of putting in sim unlock code similar to yours. However once you flash and sim unlock it, you can flash any rom and the sim unlock will stick. Good luck.

Thanks =) i did manage to get a new rom into it ARHD and interesting enough when inserting a different carrier sim now I do get the network unlock code screen. I tested the pin i had bought and it did not work, I asked and they told me they will try to find it out. I did try a few more services to buy the code but they all tell me that they cannot find my IMEI in their database. This i find really strange, does anyone know what can it be? I need to unlock since i will be travelling to the USA and want to put a prepaid card into my phone.
cheers
Ivan
I had the same problem as you. My HTC was originally from T-Mobile, I unlocked bootloader, flashed latest TWRP recovery, rooted and S-off'ed. After that I also set CID to BS_US001 and MID to 0PJA11000
After that downloaded Developer Edition RUU from http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-one-m9/general/att-developer-edition-ruu-how-to-t3086948 (use the 1.32.617.30 RUU.zip, using the 0PJAIMG.ZIP method), after that you will be prompted to insert unlock code and receive latest updates, hope it helps!

If you already bought and received an unlock code there is a big probability that you had a typo with your imei maybe. Usually when you receive an unlock code they tend to always work. Hope it helps
Hold on there's a tested and working free sim unlock in here somewhere! I have used it and multiple others, let me try to get the link.

How to Sim unlock HTC ONE M8?

**I'm an amateur at posting threads **
First I tried to SIM unlock by paying but none of those codes were working, after I rooted my phone, followed some threads and tutorials but none of them worked.
Any solution?
HTC ONE M8 :
-Android Version : 5.0.1
-Phone is European ( I am located in Europe)

If you are trying tutorials for other phones, they won't work; and you should stop doing that.
The only "mod" or "hack" (free) method to unlock the SIM on the M8 required s-off. And it no longer works on Lollipop.
Paid unlock services are probably your best bet. What pay sites did you try? I've seen cellunlocker.net recommended by various XDA members, but I've never used it myself (and can't personally vouch for the service). And those recommendations were on the One X (EVITA) so I'm not sure how well they can unlock the M8.

I tried UnlockRiver. They sent me the unlock code but it didn't work, It's because they said it is a newer version of phone.

I'd suggest another service, possibly a few. They can be a bit hit or miss with getting a working code on some of these devices.

Go to AT&T's website, and fill out the form to get the unlock SIM code. I don't even think you need to be an ATT customer to do this. Although sometimes, folks have had problems with the device's IMEI not being found in the database.
I think a law was passed within the last couple years, that US carriers need to allow customers to SIM unlock their phones.

This worked (SuperCID gave SIM unlock) early on when the phone released, but hasn't been the case for quite a while now.
You can try S-OFF.
1: Unlock yoru bootloader with htcdev
2: Flash twrp and SuperSU
3: Install SunShine S-OFF apk ( from: theroot.ninja )
4: And your phone is Sim Unlocked
5: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235 use this to back 100% stock EU
6: Use One_M8_All-In-One_Kit_v and click Command: Return to S-ON
Your phone is 100% Stock, you have a waranty and your phone is Sim unlocked.

Did you try other carrier SIMs before you were superCID? It may have worked then as well. It seems there is a good chance that you bought an unlocked phone.

So nothing, there is no proof that it was locked anyway. I know my stuff just like redpoint. My previous comment stays.
Who says it you haven't gotten a refurbished one, maybe it was factory unlocked already. Even new phones are shipped with s-off already !
I (we) have seen so many carrier locked threads here that i can tell you that s-off does not give you carrier unlock features. There is more needed and the tutorial that was active doesn't work anymore ! I'm long enough around here to say that with a 200%......
Have you even been reading up on this topic, did you have a read here about what's needed to achieve sim unlock ?

I agree to this; and also to the notion that the device was probably just SIM unlocked to begin with.
