Can the 2nd gen Nexus be charged/powered via the microusb while being in OTG host mode?
If not natively, is there a software hack?
If no software hack, I am willing to do a hardware mod but not sure where to start.
Thanks for any ideas.

Can newer roms like CM11 or CM12 maybe do OTG + charge natively?
AHA! found the answer after much more googling
timur.mobi/timurs-kernel-n7-2013
Oh wait, it's commercial only and $25 at that.
Any free solutions?

I think Timur has been the only one to work on that. And you won't find much more info about it on xda because he charges money for his kernel.
How about a hardware mod?
Can I maybe add a dedicated charging port that doesn't rely on the microusb connector?
I don't like how timur's kernel has to be used with stock, I'd rather use CM11/CM12
Maybe it is possible to fake the Qi receiving pins to take a hardwired charge.
aha! I found an open solution

Hi I was wondering if a micro usb to usb adapter such as this one would work with our LG Nitro HD. I'm currently using CM9 nightlies as my rom.
Don't see why it wouldn't but what's the purpose?

Almost all of my medical textbooks are pdfs, so being able to copy from a friends pen drive a pdf to my phone so I can later copy it to my laptop at home is a major plus for me . I went ahead and purchased it anyways, so I'll report back if it works or not
So I finally got my usb-otg adapter. I plugged it in and tried a numerous amount off usb apps with no success. I wasn't able to use stickmount since the play store told me that it isn't compatible with my device. I haven't tried sideloading stickmount though. I'm running CM9 stable, not sure if it works with the stock roms or with JB.
I've never seen any indication that the Nitro HD supports USB-OTG. It's not listed in the spec sheets I've checked at least.

It work on official rom but I wonder It can run on CM9 ROM or not

My hdmi adapter works fine in CM9, so I don't think you should have any problems if you switch to CM9.

I've used the newer Roms on the dev threads but I have not found anyone that can use the MHL to HDMI converter. Is there an app that can re--enable this? The stock rom can do this but not the recent roms.

MHL won't work on stock rom cause this phone use slimport by default.
I'm running CM10.1 (one of the latest nightlies) and the MHL is fully functional via HDMI cable.
Remember that you have to connect power supply to the converter in order to make it work.
Tried on latest cm10.1 stable and it works great.

RootBox supports MHL. And I've successfully used an MHL-to-HDMI converter from monoprice.com to show/play local pics, local videos, local music, and YouTube on our HDTV.
Haven't tried MHL on any other ROMs.
Sent through the magic of an LG Optimus G (E971) running RootBox 4.2.2.
Confirm to work on stock JB 10D rom. I bought my MHL adapter almost 2 years ago, from dealxtreme.com,for my old galaxy s2. I sold the phone, but i kept the adapter for my next phones. It seems to be working ok. It's a cheap adapter, paid 10bucs for it.They even gave me an USB OTG adapter with it .
Thanks for the feedback. I'll try connect this again tonight. I've updated to Liquid smooth rom (this should also function as with the raw CM 10.1). I'll post my result by then. thanks.
I tried to plug it again but no progress. It still doesn't recognize the connection. I'm now using RootBox rom.
Try with stock. Don't report non working features with custom roms, you do realise we can't help there, right?

As i used it on cm10.1there were no notifications about connected in notification bar or in phone itself.
But its surely working, just plug the micro USB to your phone, the HDMI to your TV and charger to socket and change the channel in tv to hdmi1 or hdmi2..... depends on where you have pluged in your HDMI. And you should See your phone in TV.
And again, you will get no notifications that it is connected to phone or tv, on mine was the same, but works 100%. Just plug everything together and choose right channel.

Which build of RootBox? MHL was only added in the middle of June, I believe. Defintely works on the June 21 build, haven't checked the June 24 build that I'm currently running, but it should work.
Which MHL adapter are you using? Does it has a full-sized USB plug as well as the micro-USB and HDMI? Is the USB plugged into anything?
I found the one I have won't work unless the full-sized USB plug is connected to the TV as well as the HDMI plug (needs it for power).
RootBox Rom June26 build. I was using a Samsung brand MHL to HDMI adapter. It was working with the stock rom. looks like this one :
http://mag.divineo.cn/magento/mc-mhla.html
The resolution of mhl on cm10.1 is 1080p and cannot be changed.
If your TV is not FullHD, you may get no signal.

Could you guys direct me to an adapter that will work with LG OG? I'm looking to buy one, but am a little confused. Some say Samsung adapters will work, but I've read online that there are different versions (difference in PIN's?). Which version should I buy 5 pin or 11 pin. Does th MHL version matters, 1.0 or 2.0 ?
11 pin is for Samsung, will not work.
Mine actually is from Energizer brand (brings a 11 pin adapter too) , I had another one before.
I think that every MHL 5 pin will work.

Does anyone of you guys know if slimport works on our phones? maybe thats the reason mhl isn't working on newer roms(Android4.3)

Me, too!
I have the same problem. I used the MHL adapter (ETAOUIOUBE adapter) with the stock rom and when I changed to CM 10.2.0 it stoped working.
Can someone help? It's a feature I used to use a lot and I'm thinking on going back to stock just for this feature :crying:
Thanks!
Hi
I was wondering if anyone has seen or heard of any way to hook up a Ethernet adapter to the note ( either 10.1 or note 3)
And before you point out that one could connect to portable mini wifi routers , my job involves a lot of testing of TCP points and there for it would be nice to be able to test it via a tablet or similar instead of lobbing around a laptop next to everything else
I used to have the Asus transformer prime and there it worked fine, but I've seen some issues with samsung units
Anyone?

Anyone got ideas?

40 is a bit steep to just experiment.
The only adapters that are going to work out of the box are the ones currently supported by Samsung Android 3.4 kernel and ones specifically made for this device. (Ones that work with GS4 and other Flagship models may work) You may have to write a few scripts to redirect traffic over usb0 (or whatever device name it comes up as)
http://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Giga...679&sr=8-2&keywords=pluggable+gigabit+adapter
I currently have a version of this. In order to connect it to the Note I would have to have the following setup:
Hardware:
Powered MicroUSB OTG Cable - USB Ethernet Adapter - Network
Software:
Grab source for the chipset of the ethernet adapter (ARM compatible)
Build kernel modules against samsung source kernel
Flash new kernel modules or flash new kernel
This is of course assuming we get the proper ct-toolchain and all that.

Anyone out there have any other suggestions, or better yet superior skills and time to donate to a project as mentioned above... ?

Straight from plugable website :
Android and Linux
Android versions 4.0 and later have driver built-in to builds from Google- although individual Android device manufacturers sometimes disable this support. Whether driver is left enabled is left up to each device maker. For example, we’ve found that all ASUS Android tablets (TF200, TF300, TF700, etc) tested to date have support for the driver, however none of the Samsung (Note, Note2, Tab, Tab2) devices we’ve tested had driver support. Advanced users running rooted devices or custom ROMS like Cyanogen mod aren’t supported by Plugable, however may be able to obtain community support from sites like XDA developers.
Drivers built into Linux kernel 2.6.35 and higher.
Source code for advanced users familiar with compiling and installing drivers using kernel 2.6.14-2.6.34 and early 3.0/4.0 kernel versions is available at the download link below:
AX88772 Linux driver 4.11 source code
For older Linux kernels 2.6.9-2.6.13, instead use:
AX88772 Linux driver 1.2.2 source code

I am just starting to explore the possibilities of using my M for high quality audio. Does the above work without root, custom rom, etc.? I am not rooted and am bootloader locked and need to remain that way.
Are there any decent guides available on the net on this topic? I have been doing a lot of googling and trying to piece things together but haven't found a good consolidated source for information.
Thanks much.

It's called 'class compliant' USB audio device.
If it works on Windows, Macintosh etc. without the need to install a device specific driver, it's probably class compliant.
Btw., the support for OTG connected class compliant USB DACs has been present in CM builds for Razr M/HD family since September 2013.

:good: Was able to pick up for a whopping $1.04 shipped, a USB audio dongle from eBay which works great, but needs external power.
Now if only I could get PodMode to work, I'd have a perfect 1-plug replacement for an old iPod.
Now it's been almost a month after the release of the third build(opp3) of O preview! Since google poured a great effort for their 3rd build, it's way much more stable than its 2nd build.
I'm pretty sure some of you guys are using this as a daily driver, but I can't because Nexum AQUA isn't working properly on this build.
Since Google tried to improve the audio quality, I think it caused the problem with some driver changes or etc. But before I take it seriously, I'm wondering if it's only me having trouble with external DAC. Also, I thought it can be also a problem of kernel for using OTG since the DAC working via OTG.
So, let me know if there's someone having similar problem of OTG or USB DAC. Anyone else? :crying:
