Hi- I've been out of the phone modding scene for quite a while now and I've got an SGH-T999 that I've dug out of the closet to use for a single purpose. I want to use it for an app called Dash Command. Here are the specs for the phone:
Android version 4.2.2
Baseband version T999UVDMD5
Kernel version 3.4.45-cyanogenmod-g7884a21 [email protected] #1 Sun Jul 7 22:1604 CDT 2013
Paranoid Android version 3.65
Build number pa_d2tmo-userdebug 4.2.2 JDQ39 eng.ayysir.20130707.22054 test-keys
Team Win Recovery Project v2.3.0.0
Here's what I need to do:
I installed Dash Command but it just freezes and won't run. Since I'm not using the phone for anything else and in fact I've disabled all of the gapps (except Maps) on the phone I am wondering if I can just move to a basic ROM and kernel. Since I've been away for so long I have no idea what to use. I need a lightweight setup. What would everyone suggest? Please suggest away!
Thanks in advance!

:sigh: Okay, so
I would label myself a newb struggling with linux in general. I have experience with the Sprint EVO 4g and android system since Oct 10. First question:
Which kernel may be best for my Rom
(I have tried Calkulin, CyanogenMod, Deck's, SalvageMod, Supersonic. I have found the Current ROM to be more stable than all.)

My REAL Question is this:
Since I purchased the phone Oct 10 and rooted it that night using ADB, UnrevokedForever and installing AmonRA Supersonic Recovery I have not met a single person in my area that has done quite what I have done. I met ONLY one person with a rooted phone so far and he could not tell me how he did it or what ROM he was running.
Odds should have dictated that I would run into at least one person by now!
(I have seriously considered walking into the SPRINT store and trying to talk to one of them!!!!!)
I have questions, comments, perspectives on hardware and software, questions about development, themes, etc. But NOONE to talk to physically!
I try to read as much as I can on this forum.
Anyway I live in the NYC area and would love someone else to talk to in real life to bounce ideas back and forth. At the risk of being skewered,
PM me if you can talk over the phone.
Thanks in advance,
Ryan
I know when I go to the local sprint store, everyone was either running a rooted evo or rooted epic. Might not be as crazy as you think

I believe you can flash1 any rom as long as its for the I900 and not from another company.there isnt a problem flashing down from 4.1.2 to 4.1.1, howwver I remember reading that say if u flashed to a romm that was 4.2.2 and u would need to do additional stuff in order to downgrade properly.. lab rats rom is a good rom just be sure sure before you flash anything to make a nandroid back up. Im currently running virtue (a). I love it and have been running it for awhile and thinking of trying a new rom..
Hope this helped.
The advice that I give is to just relax and take your time in reading before rom'ing. Now that you're rooted you can do all kinds of stuff to make your phone run better. Do a search for "root" in Google play apps. It will show you apps that only work on rooted phones. Also read read read the threads in all the note 2 forums. Rooted, rom'd and themed my s3. Rooted the wife's note 2. It's still stock and she loves it. BUT DO NOT FLASH A ROM THAT IS NOT MADE FOE YOIR VERSION OF PHONE OR PHONE CARRIER!
Enjoy

Your device is at least running a custom kernel. No clue what else, but likely something else isn't stock either since you aren't at least getting pestered by update notifications.
You have two options. You can flash the stock factory images. Or you can flash a custom recovery if you don't have one, and use it to flash to newer OS (with custom ROMs you need to flash the proper Gapps to get the play store).
You are running Ice Cream Sandwich. Get some Jelly bean on your device at least.

Make a Update
Hello,
I am having many issues and bugs like copy and pasting not working, not being able to text pictures or post pictures to fb, with my Galaxy S3. It is running a custom "Stock mod" rom. I want to re-install everything back to completely STOCK and start fresh like the day i got it... however i cant seem to find a way to do this with 4.3. Can someone please guide me in the right direction to getting either an extremely stable samsung stock themed rom or just the official Samsung 4.3 or higher rom. I just want my phone to function normally again. So sick of bugs and glitches.
Below are the stats for my phone:
Custom bootloader: TWRP v2.6.3.1
Model: AT&T SGH-I747
Android Version: 4.3
Baseband: I747UCUEMJB
Kernel: 3.0.31-2024954

Build Number: JSS15J.I747UCUEMJB
SE for Android status: Enforcing SEPF_SAMSUNG-SGH-1747_4.3_0010
Thanks in advance for anyhelp you guys can provide. Ive been beating my head against the wall trying to find a normal rom. Thanks!
Cheers!

You need to update recovery. I'd say the best bet is twrp 2.6.1.0. Though I haven't flashed my s2 in awhile....maybe a newer version is better? Last I checked 2.6.1.0 was best.
Then the newer ROMs should flash fine.
Make sure to follow the ROM flash instructions to the letter.
I'd say nandroid first....but you'd have to flash twrp first, then do it. But I'd have Odin and a stock 4.1.2 image ready just in case. In fact....I'd Odin 4.1.2 first. Then flash twrp and root. Nandroid backup after. Then flash ROMs.
Read up good though....I'm not there, so I don't warranty this advice. Lol.
Good luck.
