[Q] Is this it for software updates to the 8.4? - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Q&A, Help & Trouble

I bought a Tab Pro 8.4 on Black Friday and I haven't received a single OS update since. I'm on 4.4.2 and I actually like my tablet a lot and everything runs well aside from some occasional touchscreen over-sensitivity. Still, I'd at least like to see a 4.4.4 update before they mothball it. Has there been any official word about an upcoming update? I know I can get more recent firmware versions by flashing a ROM but I don't care for CM and I don't want to break the multi-window feature or the Samsung features that sync with my Samsung Smart TV.

Actually, I've got mine rooted and tweaked with Xposed Framework modules so it's just the way I like it. I'm not sure I would install an update when it came out.

There is an update for the 8.4 WiFi only T320 version just released but its only an update to the current 4.4.2, don't know about other 8.4 PRO versions though.
Don't expect this TAB to get 5.0.

Samsung takes a while for updates... I've been waiting months for 5.0 on my tab S. And it's a flagship device!

Agree with that they are slow but they only really do updates in the first 12 - 14 months after that its just minor things never a full rom, my tab was February 2104 so I am really not expecting it to ever get 5.0, the TAB S was released in the summer time so much more likely to get it, its all just hope really.
This extract from techradar says
Samsung doesn't seem great at updating its tablets either. There's a good chance recent slates like its Note Pro and Tab S ranges and even the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 will get Android Lollipop, but anything older or low end is probably not going to happen.
And looking here when you scroll down to the Samsung section there isn't much relating to TABS either

[Q] Future Support for Galaxy Tab 3

I am thinking of buying an samsung galaxy tab 3 7 inch, but i wonder for how long the tablet will be supported. Do you think it ever even gets KitKat? As far as i can see, there are not even 4.3 roms out there Do you think this will change and will Samsung provide Official updates?

personally, if you can a few bucks, I would get the 8" model. but if not, i don't see the 7" getting kit kat. I would wait for the 2014 model.
Official support notice for gtab 3 7 with Kitkat should be here in a little while. I think the Sprint devices got their updates first already.

[Q] Tab S 4.4.4 update

Hi guys, Samsung are rolling out Android 4.4.4 to their mobile devices. But I have not seen any reports of that update for our Tab S or even the Tab Pro. Any news on this?
And what specific changes did Samsung add to Touch-wiz in this update (to the devices it's been released on).
Thanks
A new Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update is hitting the phone to solve problems and also to prepare it for the upcoming Voice over LTE technology.
The Android Kitkat updates have been hitting the phones of major carriers but the last several either caused new bugs or didn’t solve all of them, prompting the 4.4.4.
“One of the devices that’s in the midst of an Android 4.4.4 KitKat update push is the Samsung Galaxy S5. Just about a week ago, the Galaxy S5 Android 4.4.4 KitKat update hit the Verizon Galaxy S5. The update was a bit of a surprise given how slow Verizon typically is to Android updates. The update’s change log was never publicized though there’s chatter about it fixing a Bluetooth issue. Today though, Verizon is rolling out a bunch larger Android 4.4.4 KitKat build,” according to Gotta Be Mobile.
The new update includes fixing the problem of an incorrect number of unread emails on the notification screen, and audio of the Bluetooth headset, and a camera shutters sound issue.
More tracking features have also been added to the S-Health, including Weight, Sleep, Stress, and Coach.
The update also includes tech that prepares the device for the upcoming VoLTE technology, which enables calls to sound better and clearer while having users talk on the phone while being able to use the Internet at the same time.
While Verizon’s S5 is the first model to get the 4.4.4., the other models are expected to receive it soon.
Meanwhile, some variants of the Galaxy S4, Galaxy Tab 3 and Galaxy Tab 4 have been getting the Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware recently.
The latest Google Android build is Android 4.4.4 KitKat, but that is only coming out for the very latest Samsung devices such as the Galaxy Alpha and the Galaxy Note 4–and the Galaxy S5–at present.
In the United States, Sprint are working on releasing the Android 4.4.4 KitKat for the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S5, while T-Mobile could be rolling out the update for the Galaxy S4.
Some United Kingdom carriers and Optus in Australia could also be making the update available for the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S5 LTE-A.
Samsung could eventually release the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update to its other phones, but at present, Samsung users will have to stick with a slightly older Android build.

You're not even serious LOL. the Tab S had only been out 3 months. Samsung has been known to update their devices up to 2 years out from release.

True that but after 12 months passes for a device I wouldn't hold my breath....

This is their flagship device. I'm very confident we'll see the L Preview and their next iteration of the "L", after that.

Agreed. Looking forward to it.
That was a nice joke
My guess also is that Samsung will skip directly to L for the Tab S. They don't do frequent updates, that's true. So why would they bother with a relatively insignificant interim update?

How is Samsung's update support for its tablets?

I've been eyeing the Galaxy 10.5 for a while and have been vacillating between it and the Nvidia Shield. Nvidia seems to already have released an update for the Shield as owners of the wifi version got Lollipop for it recently. Meanwhile, it's been said that the 10.5 won't get Lollipop until early next year.
So I'm curious. Has Samsung been known to be proactive about getting updates to their tablets in a timely manner and for at least 2 years from each line's release date?
Thanks in advance!
Well Samsung takes a while to get updates out. Ussally 3-4 months after a release after an new os.
Fwiw we're still on 4.4.2. We'll probably never see 4.4.4' hopefully there'll be lollipop.
Slow
I have the 8.4 inch Samsung galaxy tab S running 4.4.2 and the Galaxy Note 4 running 4.4.4. I don't expect I will receive lollipop for either device in 2014(from what I have researched online) however there appears to be a lot of online developers that assist in bringing forward greater roms and mods for us to use on our devices. You can always use this website to keep in contact with the latest firmware (official) :
live.samsung-updates.com/index.php?device=SM-T700
You can view on that website ALL official Samsung firmware. For some devices you can even install a firmware for a different region to where your device is located (but make sure to do your homework / research beforehand)

Any word on official lollipop update?

Back in the fall, I think it was expected we'd get it in February. Any new word?
My guessing is somewhere this year. I own a tab s and reports from sammobile say that the Tab s gets it somewhere in the spring. Im not sure about the tab pros though
Any such predictions are pure speculation and are pointless. Make up what ever date you want. It will be no more or less accurate than any other random XDA member.
Today samsung show lollipop on galaxy tab s (8.4 and 10.1) running 5.0.2 . So we know know the modification of touchwiz for lollipop tablets its almost finished . I suppouse it was easier to bring lollipop for smartphones and also tjey are their most important product so its easy to see why tjey wanted to update them before tablets.

I can only hope the pro models are included, considering their specs and general "newness".

Personally I can't see any Lollipop 5.0 version coming to the Tab Pro soon, Samsung have been rolling out T320XXU1BNI1 for 6 months now which is 4.4.2 update.
As this is still being rolled out then this will delay any 5.0 version coming to the Tab Pro, why spend time and resources rolling out an update to 4.4.2 if you intended to roll out 5.0.
Be nice if 5.0 did come to the Tab Pro but if it is, don't think its going to be very soon if at all.
Samsung Live Updates
they are. The tablets will receive lollipop are the 3 tab pro , the 3 tab s and the note 10.1 (2014) . Of course they have priorities but we can always wait for a port to use in the midtime

I probably read similar articles as you but I think that they tended to say Note Pro, Tab S and Galaxy Note 2014, as getting it but any other Tabs are unlikely, whatever does happen is out of our control anyway all we can do is wait and see what Samsung do.
if we dont get official we can hope someone port those lollipop roms to tabs pro (like it was done to give touchwiz kitkat to the s3 or lollipop to the s4 using a note 3 rom)
spoke with Samsung rep..
I spoke with a Samsung tech 2 weeks ago and she told me the Tab S will be getting the upgrade in the spring an tab pro was not on the update list yet...but probably would get it..

Nougat

When is Nougat coming to these tablets?
I have a SM-T800
It's not like it's very old. Samsung needs to support these devices better.
Samsung provided roughly two years of updates for the 2014 Tab S, which included two major version changes. That's, sadly, the most you can expect from any Android vendor. Somebody just reported that Galaxy Tab A just got a Nougat update, and the Tab S is certainly more capable than those Tab A models, but what makes the difference is that Samsung is selling effectively the same old Tab A all those years, so it's still their current low end model.
Fortunately, there is still Lineage OS which runs on our tablets.
