Hi all,
First time poster so please go easy on me..
Basically since the lollipop update (stock unbranded HTC M8) my stock HTC music player app has developed a rather annoying bug which involves the music song displaying its length completely wrong (please see attached pics). This causes the track to skip and jump to another track completely. It is very annoying!
It is not just with the HTC Music app either, I use a podcast app and the problem is also persists on that app too.
I have cleared caches, deleted and re-installed the podcast app. I don't know what to do apart from factory resetting the device hoping that will fix it.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Thanks for reading

Another one here with exactly the same problem. Unrooted, stock UK M8. Only happened since OTA update to Lollipop. Also noticed this (or very similar) issue appears to sometimes affect my Pocket Casts podcast app as well. The only time I've ever seen anything like this in the past was an old MP3 player I had that displayed incorrect times if music was encoded with variable bit rate. However all the music I have on my M8 is fixed bit rate so it's not that...
Does no one have any idea yet why this is happening or any suggestions for a fix? I've found that clearing the cache under Settings > Apps > All > Music can sometimes fix the issue temporarily. Soon comes back again though.
Ok this seems to have resolved it on my phone for now:
- Eject SD card (all my music is stored on SD)
- Go to Settings > Apps > All > Music > Clear Cache
- Go to Settings > Apps > All > Music Enhancer > Clear Cache
- Reinsert SD card
- Fully reboot phone by holding Power + Vol Up for 10 seconds
I'm still seeing a few isolated little glitches with some song times but they seem to be resolving themselves after a few goes, and the majority are currently displaying correctly.
Regarding the podcast side (using Pocket Casts app), I think I may have fixed this incidentally a few days ago when I moved my podcasts from using phone storage to SD. Taking this into account, it looks to be some kind of database corruption after the Lollipop upgrade, hopefully all ok after letting the phone rebuild its relevant media databases from scratch (I suspect a full factory reset would also fix it.) I wonder if the update included some kind of change to the MP3 decoding codec used which somehow misinterpreted the cached time info?
Same issue .. and lot of issues since lollipop
I did exactly like you said .. but I still get the same annoying bug .. and also there are many bugs after lollipop . like if you cleared recent apps and soundcloud was one , you see soundcloud's notification in the top left , when you slide it down , you see the latest song you have been playing , and it is frozen you can not clear it . and when you touch it , it opens again soundcloud .. you cannot fully close the app .. only if you did that in running Apps and force stop it .. EVEYTIME .. is that normal ? please help . and is it also possible to get back to Android kitkat ?!
I too have a similar issue... When playing, if I pause the song or audio book and exit the app, when reopening it forces the song or book to reset back to the beginning. Before it would resume from the place it was paused at.
Any ideas?
Audio messed up by lollipop
Hi
I am having the same issue. Any info on a solution?

Does it play the full song inspite of showing the wrong length, or even the song's messed up ? A hard reset helps sometimes
Same problem here. Audios received by whatsapp have the same problem sometimes. I reverted to kitkat and the problem is gone, upgraded again to lollipop and problem is back. My music is on internal storage. Poweramp do not have this problem.
Hi,
I had same issue, it turned out that it appeared after turning off Nuplayer option in dev settings. When I turn it on again, as for now (2 days), works as expected.

i will try turning it back on to see if problem persists here.
EDIT:Turning nuplayer back on solved the problem. thanks.
I'll give that a try too. I can't remember why we turned off NuPlayer in the first place, but isn't there some other issue?
Guys the problem is caused by enabling dev options then turning it off
Just head into bev options and enable Nuplayer.it worked for me
Turning nuplayer on helps but than Messenger lags very often. Any solutions about that?
Thanks, turning on NuPlayer worked for me too !

Hi there. I'm running the OTA FroYo, I've never rooted my phone and never probably will I didn't have any problems with it so far. I've made numerous 720p recordings without problems but this morning when I pressed record the app froze - all labels and icons disappeared and only the camera feed remained. Then when I closed the app my battery started draining fast. With OS Monitor I pinpointed the culprit - mediaserver. It's a system process and I can't kill. I tried killing all apps with a task killer with no luck. When I restart the phone the mediaserver doesn't do any problem until I turn on the camcorder app even if I don't press record. And even if I press record it just freezes again... I tied changing codecs and different settings and making numerous reboots but apparently those things didn't work at all...
So does anybody have an idea how to fix that? Have anybody experienced a similar problem?
I have this same issue. My phone went from 100% at 7am to 15% just before 11am because I made a video last night and didn't reboot the phone afterward. This has only happened since the 2.2 update.
It's good to hear it's not just me... Hope there's a way to resolve the issue. Can we somehow send an inquiry to HTC?
I have the media service running on my orange UK 2.1 phone... I stop it.. nothing happens.. all my pics work fine.. music etc...
just out of interest i had this problem when i had NimBuzz installed and it was on auto login, when i turned auto login on start-up off mediaserver goes.
just an idea
have not got numbuzz or any " extra " music" apps....
I had the same problem after upgrading to 2.2. Wiping my data and settings fixed it.
I don't have Nimbuzz as well...
Well, I hope there's another way to do it. I don't want to erase my data and settings :/
Wow! I just tried recording a video and it worked like a charm! The problem has magically dissapeared! I tried so many things so I can't really point out which one actually worked. Basically I think changing the video codec, unmounting/mounting the SD card (I did it by connecting the phone to the pc as a data device) and restarting the phone helped. I did those things several times in different orders.
Hey Folks,
I have an issue with the built-in stock Music player constantly taking all of the available RAM, which causes Android to start killing other processes like the launcher (Apex Pro), Tasker, nearby devices service (force closes occasionally), etc. It is very odd. I have tried several attempts to remedy the situation. I have, so far, cleared the Media Storage data, cleared the Cache partition from the boot recovery menu, have music on built-in storage and un-mounting my MicroSD card, to which none of these efforts helped. It seems like the Music Player app has a memory leak, which I am wondering if this was introduced in 4.3. I did not see it listed yet in the 4.3 issue threads, and not really sure if 4.3 is the culprit. I upgraded to the S4 from an S2 recently and a week later the official 4.3 upgrade was available. Thus, I do not know if this issue was happening in 4.2.2.
The interesting thing is that this leak or loop is occurring whether or not I have music on the device. So, to be clear, the issue specifically is when I launch the Music Player and then go to Task Manager to see the used RAM, the RAM will just continue to get used up until it reaches about 1.70GB or so out of 1.78GB available and then Android will start killing other processes to accommodate for more memory. This is when Apex and /or Tasker and other services start getting the ax. What's more, if I kill the Music Player (either right away or later), the memory continues to be consumed until it reaches about 1.5GB - 1.6GB and then finally releases and drops to 700MB - 900MB.
I am on a stock ROM, non-rooted and I have also confirmed this issue with my wife's S4 as well. We can use Google Play Music with no issues, but prefer the stock player if there is a solution to this "memory leak" or other situation that is causing the issue. If anyone has some insights as to what this issue is and a fix, please let me know. Also, if anyone can launch the Music Player and watch the RAM in Task Manager to confirm that this is or is not occurring on other S4s out there as perhaps it is an issue that some may not have noticed. In fact, my wife has been using her device in the car for a couple of weeks and streaming with Bluetooth and not noticed this was occurring. However, if she were to have music and use Maps/Navigation at the same time with this issue, Maps will get killed along with other multitasking tasks. I happened to noticed this behavior when I moved my music on the device and was playing around with the player, when I saw that Tasker restarted itself and then shortly after the nearby devices service forced closed and the music app got real sluggish. I then started observing the RAM usage with the launch of the player and realized why apps were closing. The funny part is that the music plays fine and never dies, it just kills everything else in its wake.
Any insight to this will be greatly appreciated. Also, I have been scouring the forums and Google in general to see if this has been mentioned and have not found this exact situation. However, if I did overlook a thread/post that has this as a known issue, please let me know what that link is. Thanks.
First off, damn. You might want to take a refresher course on how to say what you mean without all the extra words. You wrote a book man. 90% of what you typed is unnecessary. Nobody wants to read all of that and must won't even entertain a response. Just a friendly heads up.
Now, are you sure that the RAM is being taken up by the music app and not a combination of apps/processes? The stock task manager isn't very good for situations like this so you'll need to download a system monitor. There are quite a few out there, take your pick.
Could be that when you open the music player the media scanner is eating up RAM along with other processes. Those together are killing your memory. If that's the case you need to create a .nomedia file to place in the folders on your internal/external memory. Also, do you have any other music or media apps installed?
Figure out those then post back. You might try uninstalling all your apps then reinstall them one by one ( backup first). Yes, it can take a while if you have a lot but once you install the culprit - you'll know it. Hope that helps.
SOLVED!!
Ah, thanks for the heads up! Sorry about the long-winded post, I just wanted to convey the issue and what I have done so far. In future posts, I will be much more concise and to the point.
On a good note, I have solved my issue and found that if you disable/freeze/uninstall apps but still want to use the built-in music player, there is a conflict if you disable S Voice. I was going through the settings in the music player and noticed the voice control feature (which was unchecked), but clearly the player still wants to talk with or "see" S Voice out there. I took a shot in the dark and once I re-enabled S Voice, the gobbling of RAM from the music player launching stopped. Yay!!
Not solved!
Well that victory was short lived. That seemed to have only worked for about 10 minutes and it is back to the same memory gobbling issue when the player is launched. I reactivated Google Play Music and am using that with no issues, so it seems that will have to do.
Well that was all I had. I don't use the stock music player since I stream with Google Music.
You might look in the app store for an app to replace the stock one. Then uninstall the stock app so you don't have the issue anymore.

Hey, i got a problem. Sometime when i play music on my Xperia T2 Ultra Dual, it sometimes stop playing music and them resumes after 30 some seconds. first i thought this issue was with walkman app, so i bought poweramp but the issue persists. i have also used some other player too. so i just want to know that if this issues is with my phone and its hardware or is is a firmware bug and how to solve it....:good::good::good:
I use to had similar problem, as well my phone hangs, when volume up key is pressed,
I went to service center, somehow they fixed it, now working fine.
They were not able to inform me what was the exact problem.

I'm also facing same problem in addition my headphone MH410 most of the time can't register double clicks for playing next track. I noticed the problem presists with other headphone leads also.
I am having issue with playing any song with any music player on xperia t2 .
Track being played stops(sound) however the track is still in playing status.this happens for 5-6 seconds and sound comes back again.Do we have any fix for this?.
Coming from t2 ultra dual on carbon rom, music only stops playing when screen is locked for a couple of minutes. It doesnt stop playing if the screen is on. So i'm thinking it has something to do with the sleep cycles of the device. I haven't been able to pinpoit it though. Nothing ive done so far helped.
Hey guys I was having the same problem but just found a fix,it worked for me hopefully it works for u also..
Power management /Extended standby /Apps active in standby and add music to it.
Solution Finally!
HI, guys, I'm gonna share the solution I've found and it works great, plus it doesn't involve tinkering with anything.
The music auto-stop problem lies deep underneath the application that locks the screen of your phone or probably something malfunctions when the screen is locked. Now, there is a difference between turning off the screen (the light) and locking it. Turning off the lights does not essentially means locking it off. And, as our problem starts when the screen is locked we will try NOT locking it. So, go to Settings->Security->Screen Lock and select "None". This will essentially prevent your phone from locking the screen anyways.
---------- Post added at 10:08 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:53 AM ----------
But, hold on, does that mean it also removes any kind of security that prevents nosey people from intruding? Yes, it does.
So???
Well, first of all you cannot have screen locked while listening to music. You can turn on/off screen lock after/before you listen to music, but that's annoying.
So, I suggest get this app: jet audio
There's an option in this app to modify screen lock option when this app is running on foreground. In this player, go to preferences->Screen then select No Screen Lock and then use it to listen to music (it's actually a very cool player. for those of you who are using paid players try the plus version, worth every penny.)
Hope this helps.
Note: you don't need to apply both to make this work. If you're using jet it will override the system screen lock settings while it's playing and is foreground
Note2: music players other than jet may have this no screen lock option, you can try those too.
just update it to 5.1.1
because i never faced such problems in 5.1.1
I have tried changing settings,removing apps,etc,still not working,pleaseee help!!!!
I tried go to Google Settings > Location > Mode and set it to Phone Only or directly turning off gps and it works

I got a new m8 a few days ago and naturally I threw some music on it. No SD card. I get a bug where randomly my seek bar will indicated hours and be stuck. I can still seek on it but it won't move. This happens in every music player I tried (stock, Google, shuttle, poweramp) and I can't find a solution. No root no nothing phone is brand new. Could it be that a corrupted song was doing this? Please help it's annoying.
I believe it is just a 5.0.1 bug. Might be just specific to 5.0.1 on our M8s. Not sure if this is only non lollisense or if it occurs on GPE as well... all I know is that it is a known bug. Hasn't really bothered me much. What bothers me are the momentary slow loading I have in Play Music. Some times the pause button or next/previous buttons are unresponsive for like 10 seconds. THAT is super annoying.

I have EXACTLY the same issue!! I have had my M8 since launch last March, but this bug reared its ugly head when i updated to lollipop the other week. I find it very annoying too!! I have also created a post on this issue today. I've tried clearing cache memory etc but nothing has fixed it permanently.
for a temporary fix i find that if i run clean master it clears the bug, but it comes back later that day.
if you do manage to solve, please can you let me know too.
Same issue
I have the exact same issue too.
Htc One M8 unlocked version, no root, no nothing.
It happens with all music players too (even soundcloud).
So I don't think it's related to a music file.
It only happened after I updated to Android 5.0.
It's so annoying. If anyone knows a fix please share it!
I have this issue too i've tested Viper ,Maximus Insert Coin and even on Sky Dragon and i always have this bug. However the bug usually occures on .mp3 song not .m4a
i have another problem. sometimes when i want to play music it wont and i need to reset the cache of the music player or restart my phone befor it works again. I am stock rom and not unlocked or rooted. Until now i experienced this bug only under google play music, cause i love the design of it too much to change to another
So this issue is present on ALL Lollipop roms?! Can someone port over the music player from KitKat or something?
If you are S-Off, you can flash the H/K - Boomsound switcher. Choosing H/K fixes it. And it sounds better than Boomsound IMO.
You can also flash it if you are S-On and pick H/K, but you won't be able to flash the H/K ADSP. It should still fix the issue though.
So after further using the phone I don't get this bug when I have NUplayer checked in dev options. But that makes my phone register audio on all the time and it drains my juice so I use awesomeplayer and ignore the bug
Hello XDA,
I have reviewed everything that is out there on the internet and have not been able to resolve my issue.
I have LG G3 Rogers version, unlocked, never rooted. It used to work fine before. I started noticing my Youtube videos from the app stopped playing giving an error message (Error code is different every time) Youtube videos from the browser play but without sound, Instagram videos/live streams/stories (anything that has sound; IG videos with no sound when posted by the user works fine) stopped playing, spotify wouldn't play music but the timer of the track would keep going. This is with headphones, without headphones. Doesn't matter. Then when I restart my phone, the issue is completely fixed, for some time until it starts again. The way I know it will mess up is my pattern unlock sound goes out first. Then my lock sound and eventually certain key taps are not recognized. But again, when I restart the phone, everything is fine. I use Action Launcher 3, I've tried without it. I have factory reset my phone and I am running Marshmallow.
Any ideas? Much appreciated.
Thank you.

If you have been using it for more than three years in a row, The android version wears out... (gets old)...
you might have to check for system updates or (in rare cases (or) you cannot tolerate kinda case) you can flash another rom on your LG G3.
Android ROMs give you a better battery life (which also eventually wears out after three years of usage) and better performance...
Hello,
I got a new battery about 6 months ago so not so worried about that part. Is there any to troubleshoot and deduce what could be causing this issue?
Hello,
Quick update: I have not had any issues with the phone for about 2-3 days now. I had pattern unlock set on my device with rain dew drops as the dots. Since I've removed the dew drops, this issues has stopped. Currently I have knock code set on as screen lock. I will now try pattern unlock again, but with basic dots only to see if this occurs again. Keep you posted.
