>> Yeah, Fido is a part of the Rogers network, but sadly bootloader and modem files are different
Indeed, the first rom i installed was that same SR3x 4.0 (previously installed 3.0 on an AT&T S3 with no problems, that phone still works fine)
As you can see, my Bootloader version is now i747MVLUEMK5, which is the Fido variant of the 4.3.x Bootloaders.
At least, that's what phone info displays. I installed the 4.3 update directly from Sammobile using Odin 3.04
I noticed that the Bootloader and Phone files weren't directly included in the archive, so for these to be updated have me a bit skeptical.
The only time the phone makes any sound is when making a call, you can hear white (?) noise and static from the speakers.
I think this problem first started occuring when the phone was still on the 4.1 modem and bootloaders. I tried 2 OC bootloaders to get wifi functionality, but the sound never came back. All the deets are in the screenshot. S3rx comes with two OC kernels as well as a i747m kernel that i tried last silly me with that decision

what about flashing the latest cm11 nightly to see if you can at least get it back functioning.? sorry i dont have better answers.

any ideas mr. @audit13 ? if have time.

If you used the stock Rogers/Fido 4.3 firmware from sammobile and you flashed it, it should have flashed the modem and bootloader too. Try flashing again and post a screen shot of Odin.
SRX was designed for the ATT s3 and I could not get the SRX ROMs to work on an i747m.

thank you @audit13. i knew you'd have something.

I understand. I have a pic of my workbench before I get started.
I've realized that all the flashes I've done since I got the device were using a Philz Touch CWM designed for the d2att versions of the phone. The Rogers/Fido verison is under d2lte so i will also try to re-flash SRx3 to see if changing the kernel there will "unmute" the sound so I can use it again. I'm used to simple things turning into these sort of Maze Runner situations @@
>> Also wondering if I should hit the flash bootloader checkbox, even thoug im pretty sure it does that by default @@

Before unification of TWRP, CWM, and Philz for the msm8960, the files were either designed for the d2att (i747) or d2can (i747m). Everything was eventually unified under the d2lte because ROMs and recoveries could not be cross-flashed between the i747 and i747m with the exception of bootloaders, modems, and some kernels.
Flashing files designed for the d2can, other than bootloaders and modem, tells me the files are probably dated at this point.
I'm not sure if SRX includes a bootloader but, if it does, do not flash it.

So most roms are safe for the i747m now? I see. I've installed both overclocking kernels from the SR3x v3.0/4, and it was shortly after that the sound went out, if not instantly. I'll be doing the Odin flash sometime this week, the phone's now on 4.3 so it's either Stay with JB or upgrade to the Kitkat Bootloader/Modem pack
I should also try grabbing a 4.3 Slimkat to see if that does any magic. That'd be disturbing though.

The safest way to install the latest modem and bootloader is by flashing back to stock 4.3 and running OTA updates until you are running the latest ROM and bootloader.
SRX is based on a TW ROM and i747 bootloader. I could not get the SRX ROM to work properly on an i747m and switching the kernel may not resolve the problem because you do not have the latest i747 bootloader.
All ROMs are safe for the i747m unless it is a ROM that is specifically based on a stock TW ROM. In this case, it can be hot or miss.
I recommend just using Odin to flash back to stock to at least see if the sound issue gets resolved.

Will do. I'll register for the Samsung updates to streamline the process. Thanks a lot in advance, I'm hoping for the best
Never knew TW could be this much of a problem, but then again, I think on the regular i747, TW was the sole cause of needing to touch modem/bootloader files in the first place
At this point better to install a launcher add root and be done with it. I'll have updates tomorrow

I am sick of the gps problems with the latest kit kat update and i want to see if its possible to go back to jellybean non rooted or rooted, right now i am currently not rooted
Not possible no matter what you do...you will brick your device....however if you root on 4.4.2 there is custom Roms and such you can flash that are jellybean...you just can't downgrade

CF-AutoRoot had worked for some on ND8 but not others. Odining the latest Philz Touch Recovery tar.md5 is more reliable and you'll need it to flash your custom ROM anyway. It's the only custom recovery that works 100% on ND8 bootloader.
If you flash a custom ROM, it'll already be rooted.
Any custom ROM in Development or Original Development. Just don't ever flash any other modem than ND8 or NDC, either, or you'll brick your phone.

4.4.4 custom back to 4.3 stock possible?
Similar situation but I've got a great working stock but rooted (towelroot) Sprint S3 on JellyBean 4.3 that I'd like to be able to return to if my first custom ROM attempt does not work out like I want. Looking at SlimKat 4.4.4 and using TWRP I would like to know if there is a problem going back to my stock 4.3 ROM? (I've backed up everything with TWRP) I've got all KNOX frozen with Titanium but I don't know if that is good enough to keep the problem I've come across with people not being able to downgrade due to KNOX issues. Been looking at flashing a ROM for a couple years and about to take the plunge but would like any advice / thoughts on this situation. Thanks

You can flash and nandroid restore absolutely any ROM you want. You just can't downgrade your bootloader or modem once you have the 4.3 or 4.4 knox bootloader. The knox apps in the ROM itself won't make any difference to what you can or can't do in recovery.

flash done but still questions
Thanks - I just flashed Slimbean 4.3 and so far no problem. In traditional computers I understand a bootloader but I guess I'm not clear on what it does in the android other than boot the OS. Is there any reason one would NOT want a 4.4 or 4.4.4 bootloader? My stock ROM was 4.3 and had Knox so I guess I've already got a newer type bootloader. So if I flash SlimKat 4.4.4 ROM I would still be able reflash back to my stock 4.3 ROM I saved with TWRP backup (or maybe I need to use Nandroid backup?). I grabbed Nandroid but haven't used it. Everything is currently saved with TWRP but if I recall Nandroid can use TWRP backups ?
:good:
i downgraded from official kitkat to miui v5 JB but just be careful with that bootloader
Tnx, I just went from that 4.4.4 SlimKat back to my stock 4.3 JB with no problem. I guess I'm still not clear on what would change the bootloader or if that's an issue running between 4.3 and 4.4 ROM's. That is likely all I'll be experimenting with. Going to give Sonic Developers Open Kang SOKP ROM a try here shortly. Slimkat was fairly nice but made things too small for my eyes and a couple other very little issues - other than that looked like a nice ROM in my limited experience. Lots of adjustable fine tuning features.
Wow - that Sonic Developers Open Kang SOKP ROM is really sweet... and no problems switching back and forth with 4.4.4 and 4.3. I guess I haven't touched the bootloader Still not clear on what would change the bootloader and if there is any incompatibility between 4.3 and 4.4.4 although I'm so thilled with the Sonic SOKP ROM I'll probably stay with that.

Using odin to flash one of the Ota files would change your bootloader. If you're just flashing rom zips you're perfectly safe. I'm also running the latest SOKP and love it. Aside from not being able to get viper4android to work.

[Q] MK2 to NC5

So I don't know if I've been out of the loop, or I'm not reading something right or what, but I need some help. I've been searching up and down and everything applies to Verizon, not T-Mobile.
I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S4. It is currently on MK2 running WICKED V10. I want to use HyperDrive RLS17. However, I have heard whispers here and there about a proper upgrade process. Everything from something called SafeStrap, to being on the MDK bootloader, etc.
I want to be able to flash Hyperdrive RLS17 (a Verizon based ROM, with carrier compatibility packs) on my current device which is MK2.
Can anyone shed any light or point me in the right direction? I've been searching for 2 days and I think I'm getting misinformation from Verizon based roms.
Is that ROM on this section or the Verizon section?

All sections. The ROM was built for Verizon, but then Carrier Compatibility Packs were developed for each carrier. So they a pinned in each carriers version, however, originating from the Verizon carrier forum.
Here it is in the T-Mobile Android development towards the top:

I'm just really confused because it being an original Verizon only ROM, a lot of the questions are for Verizon. But I have seen on T-Mobile speicfic ROMs something about staying on MDL or MK2, or something along those lines. If I could just get to a KitKat ROM, I don't think I would have an issue, but my concern is jumping to 4.4 due to all the warning tape about going about it in the right order.
*EDIT* I also realized I posted this in General instead of Help. Can one of the mods please move this? My bad.
Order doesn't matter. I don't know why someone would say that . updating/flashing the tar wipes everything off the phone (except data/sd card) so doesn't matter what order you do it in. If you're on mdl, flashing the nb4 tar is going to remove everything of mdl and replace it with nb4.
Btw there is no NC5 unless weve gotten an update no one has talked about or mentioned.

Thanks. Thats what I was thinking too, but ever since Knox came into play, a lot of red tape has gone up on how to properly do this. Plus I saw things about LTE modems not working if you use the newer version. Audio goes bad or something.
Just been out of the loop for some time and jumping back in i feel like warnings are coming at me from every direction.

I think its MK2 if I'm not mistaken. Wicked was supposed to make a V11 Kit Kat, but his priorities shifted to his new note and his home life. So time to move on. I'm sure this would have had a newer bootloader

You actually have the older bootloader with no Knox, probably MDL.. So you can flash the ROM and the modem if you wish
Edit: well even with NB4 full firmware you can do this but you won't be able to flash previous firmware, only ROMs, so its up to you.. Some experience better results with full NB4 package but you will trip your Knox if you update it which I don't know if you really care about it

Well I went ahead and flashed, and I'm good. Still on MK2 modem, but getting ready to flash the newest. Also, I don't want to trip the Knox. I sell my phones when I go to upgrade and I don't need people getting cranky because knox is tripped. I'll upgrade to newest OTA when I go to sell it and call it a day.
FYI, I'm having very little issues on Hyperdrive 17.1 for T-Mobile. I think its an app problem right now because all was smooth until I started restoring apps. Thanks everyone for the help!

Hey, I have the same mk2 phone as yours and I've been searching up to update to nc5 as well. I couldn't find anyone with tmobile and then I stumbled upon this post.
Just one question about this. You said you are still on MK2 modem, did u follow surge's method?? Did u use the same files as provided for verizon forum??
Then shouldn't the mk2 change to NC5?? Also, when u said u went ahead and flashed, did u mean u flashed hyper 17?? Cuz I tried and ROM didn't boot up on my mk2.
Please let me know. I wanted to go forward with this method just don't have the guts to take chances and brick my phone.
Yes, flashed 17 from tmobile version, but selected AT&T on Aroma, and didn't flash the compatibility pack. Then I followed Surges method to upgrade the modem. I also flashed the ktoonz kernel for tmobile directly after the modem, as the instructions said to do.
Hope that helps.

[Q] Question about Stock 4.4.2 and flashing

Hey guys got a couple questions see below.
1. My first question is, Is there a way to Flash Stock 4.4.2 without using a computer and odin, my laptop doesn't read my phone, ive done installed and updated drivers, and everything. is there a way to flash it like you would a custom rom. I know i read that i could use Mobile Odin Pro, but at the same time i read that its not to safe to use that, and tbh not sure why you have to pay for it... i know there cracked Mobile odin pro and i havent tried it yet.
2. My next question is, is there a simple way to flash my sprint s3 to another career, by flashing a rom that will flash it to another carier not sure if this makes sense lol, basicly my Phone was flashed to Page plus, and i accidentally updated it and lost the flash, and i dont really want to pay to get it flashed again, is there a real easy way to flash it with with a custom flashing rom, and if my laptop ever reads my phone is there a easy way to do it with a laptop besides paying for it( not looking for cracks). My phone number for Page plus and account is still active.
3. My last question is im looking for an awsome rom, One that does not overheat my phone like Hellfire does, ive tried hellfire, CM(also nighty), Vanir, PAc rom, Carbon. and others to.

I have the stock sub cable and also a more expensive cable. Sometimes it does read and sometimes it doesn't,
Can I backup my stock Rom before flashing a custom rom, I mean I've tried it through Phil's recovery and find that once I restore it using Phil some apps and things don't work correctly.
What's a rom you would recommend.

I would recommend Tribute Rom or Wicked X 8.0.....and with the back ups make sure you have the latest Philz recovery which should be 6.48.4 and before each backup wipe cache and dalvik cache then your backups should work flawlessly

Hey guys got a couple questions see below.
1. My first question is, Is there a way to Flash Stock 4.4.2 without using a computer and odin, my laptop doesn't read my phone, ive done installed and updated drivers, and everything. is there a way to flash it like you would a custom rom. I know i read that i could use Mobile Odin Pro, but at the same time i read that its not to safe to use that, and tbh not sure why you have to pay for it....

If you're already on the ND8 or NDC bootloader, then you can flash the stock (although rooted) ND8 or NDC ROM through custom recovery like the latest PhilZ. I'm guessing you're not, though.
Mobile Odin had had its uses in the past, just not handy with more recent versions of TouchWiz.

Here's the thread for flashing to Page Plus. I haven't done it, I'm on Sprint. I was having a lot of trouble getting my S2 on Page Plus. For phone it wasn't too bad, but I could never get data on and things were getting confusing with conflicting information, several third party programs on the PC, needing a donor phone, etc.

[Q] Downgrade Question?

I have a Samsung Galaxy s3 SPH-L710 and it currently has firmware 4.4.3 and I want to downgrade so I can change my SPC, plus my MEDI and stuff. My question is can I do this due to KNOX?
I also was wondering if I could upgrade back to 4.4.3 after I change the SPC to "000000" and the MEDI.
I don't think you have to downgrade the bootloader to do that, just the ROM, and you can flash ROMs to your heart's content, just don't ever Odin a bootloader or modem older than what you have now.
4.4.2 is the latest official TouchWiz ROM, and ND8 & NDC are the latest bootloader and modem for our phone.

As I said. You can flash any ROM you want, including stock. You just can't ODIN an older stock ROM or modem than what you have already. I have no idea how to change those things, this thread is about downgrading. You can Odin a custom recovery like PhilZ Touch Recovery, which is the most reliable recovery under Stock 4.4.2. Then use your custom recovery to flash whatever older stock ROM: probably 4.1.1 because I had to downgrade a friend's AT&T Note 2 to 4.1.1 because it allowed easier unlocking that phone from that carrier. I have no idea if 4.1.1 on the SPH-L710 will get you what you need, you'll have to use the search field in the main S3 section and search for MEID and separately for SPC, or google for SPH-L710 MEID or SPH-L710 SPC 000000 and see if you find out how to change it those.

Please close this thread!!!
So how did you get your spc on nd8 4.4.2? Or did you downgrade to a different version?

update to 4.3/4.4

My S3 is still running 4.1.2. Haven't wanted to update, but the AT&T notifications are becoming VERY annoying.
I don't mind updating, but I do want the option of going back to 4.1.2 if I don't like the newer ROMs.
What I've read is I need to flash the MJB2 bootloader which doesn't carry eFUSE, correct?
Then I can flash a 4.3 or 4.4.2 ROM with modem?
MJB is 4.3 and Knox is included with the stock ATT 4.3 ROM.
Is your phone carrier unlocked? If not, you could flash to stock 4.1.1, unlock the phone, and upgrade to a newer ROM or bootloader if you want.
Once you are on a stock 4.3 ROM, you cannot go back to a stock 4.1.2 or 4.1.1 ROM as the 4.1.1/4.1.2 modem/baseband will not with with a 4.3 bootloader.
No, the phone is not carrier unlocked. I have read thru the thread on how to unlock an S3 on 4.1.2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2529200).
But as I posted in my OP, my question is about the MJB2 bootloader, not the EMJB. There are threads which differentiate that the EMJB is the stock 4.3 bootloader which enables the eFUSE, and the MJB2 is a modded bootloader which does not enable the eFUSE. I'm just trying to avoid all traces of KNOX.
Do you want to go to kk?
Doesn't matter to me, 4.3 or 4.4. I just want to use the easier process. That, and I want to use a rooted, stock ROM. I haven't found a stock ROM for 4.4 that is prerooted with KNOX removed, debloated, etc.
But I will keep looking.
Problem is most of the ROMs here state I need to update the modem. And if you update the modem, you need to update the bootloader with it.

Thank you for those. But they don't address my original question...
Is there an MJB or NE4 bootloader that has been modded to not activate eFUSE?
really dont know. hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chyme in.
err on the side of kindness
Sorry. I meant MJ2 bootloader, not MJB2.
My original question is does the MJ2 bootloader activate eFUSE, and if it doesn't, will it work with 4.3 and 4.4 ROMs?
i have not flashed a ROM that enabled KNOX. and at least one of those threads states that they are knox free. as i understand it, the mjb bootloader was 'official' upgrade the mj2 (which i had till just recently) is the OTA upgrade; but essentially they are the same.
yes, i have flashed many 4.3.x & 4.4.x ROMs on mj2.

The latest cm11 and aosp roms will require a kk bootloader and modem to access the carrier's data network.
I have seen posts where people have flashed the latest modem and bootloader from a custom recovery but I don't know if flashing the bootloader will activate Knox or install Knox.

Well, in reading more of the bootloader/knox issue, all of the current bootloaders will activate the eFUSE. But, activating KNOX is more dependent upon the ROM you are on and the one you want to load. I am on a 4.1.2 debloated stock ROM without KNOX, and am probably going to load up S3Rx 3.0 TouchWiz 4.3 MJB (4-13-14) Full AROMA as it says its totally KNOX free.
I just don't want that damn 0x1 flag to show up.

I hear you! I don't want to trip my warranty bit either, mine is 0x0 right now and want to keep it that way. You're lucky you're on 4.1.2, my GS3 came with 4.3 and then one day it decided to update to 4.4.2 by itself since I forgot to tell the update no and just kept closing it instead. KNOX is an even bigger pain on 4.4, thankfully I disabled it and froze it. Also, what is S3Rx?
a very nice 4.4.2 touchwiz by @enewman17. good good builder.

I decided to go with S3Rx 4.2. I've heard nothing but horror stories about Touchwiz on KitKat. Didn't want to touch it with a 10 ft pole. Good thing was S3Rx made it relatively painless to update.
So far the phone is running good on S3Rx.
glad to here.
