Hey!
I recently bought the M8 and been having some issues with the HTC Gallery app.
1st: Snapchat pictures i take and decide to save end up in the Snapchat folder, but also creates a duplicate picture in another folder called "Pictures".
2nd: Automatic highlighting of photos, which make its own folder aswell.
I have tried to google/search around for some fixes and/or help to these issues.
Mostly people say "hide the folders" which is not an acceptable fix as the pictures will just waste space on the phone.
Anyone experiencing the same problems or know what i can do? All help is greatly appriciated.

If you click on the menu in top right corner and hide the folder that says All Pictures you will not get duplicates anymore and it is not a duplicate the gallery just shows pictures from all folder in the folder called All Pictures. I'm unsure about highlighting as on mine I need to select which photos to highlight.

Thanks for the reply.
Its not the "All Pictures" folder, I might have explained it abit poorly.
Whenever i save a picture from the Snapchat app, a new folder is created("Pictures") with the photo inside. Snapchat has it own folder in the gallery aswell with the image. It is not a mirror or shortcut to the original image. If i delete the folder the problem still presist the next time i save a photo using snapchat.
Hiding the folder or using .nomedia is not a fix for this as it will still use up my phones storage:/

Requesting Help to Remove redundant images from "Instant Uploads" folder on Phone
RESOLVED IN THE RESPONSES BELOW - Thanks all
This is really frustrating for a tidy freak like me but:
When I first got this phone, messing around with the camera I took some inane shots of my surroundings thinking I could delete then afterwards. Some of these images went into a folder called "instant uploads". When I went into the folder to delete them there was no option.
Some of the shots were replicated from my main folder, so I deleted them from there. The number of images in instant uploads remained unchanged (13 images) but now I have mostly grey tiles which when I click on them inside instant uploads it says "no thumbnail" There is also a picture in instant uploads that still has the image there, even though its deleted from my phone!
Ive been into picasaweb and deleted images from there and tidied up but still my instant uploads folder on the phone is showing the same 13 images.
Ive been into settings/apps/all and cleared a cache called "media storage", it rebuilt the regular image folder but still this folder of sh*te called "instant uploads" remains.
Can anyone help me clear this up? Ive turned off instant upload now as I dont see it being of use to me personally so i'd really love to get rid of this remnant bloat..
First go into the Google+ app and untick the 'Enable Instant Upload' option in settings. Then go to your Google+ on your computer or in the phones browser, navigate to your instant uploaded photos and delete them from there. I couldn't find any way of deleting them from within the gallery app or the Google+ one.
Beat me to the punch...
This was annoying the hell out of me since i was doing the same and just playing around and then when i came to delete them i just ended up with the gallery still showing photos being there but all of them were just blank with no option to delete like you say.
I managed to get rid of them in the end by doing as stated above, delete them from the pictures from phone folder in the web version on Google+, delete them from web picasa, switch off instant upload in the Google+ app and then clear data for Gallery and Google+ in /settings/apps/all.
I also used Astro file manager to delete all cache in android/data/com.google.android.apps.plus but i dont think this did anything, just thought i wuld add that in too.
All in all i think that is a S*!T way to simply delte some pictures and can imagine quite a few people having the same problem, especially those new to android wanting the new galaxy.
Thanks for chiming in guys.
Tung_meister, i had already deleted the imiages from picsaweb and they are not showing on Google+ so I guess those two are syncing. Id also unticked the instant upload option within settings, The images and grey blank tiles were still there on my phone in the IU folder. I went back into the picsaweb adn deleted the empty folder called instant uploads. Still the images are in the phone!
Dumb Donkey, ive done every step you have shown exept
and then clear data for Gallery and Google+ in /settings/apps/all.

I'll try that now and hopefully resolve the issue. If that fails im gonna do a handset reset. It wont take me that long to get everything as I want, slightly annoying though!
Im thinking maybe I used another email address/account for sharing somehow but dont think so..
That worked Dumb_Donkey cheers! I'd buy you a pint mate haha!
Cleared Google+ which got rid of the photos but it still had an instant upload folder stating "13 files"
Cleared Gallery which zapped the instant uploads folder completely!
Thanks very much mate.
Looks like a syncing issue betweeen phone and web?
Well, I'm pretty late, but just found out you can choose what albums to show via settings. Just choose "phone content" and it's fine.
Hello, I have a Samsung Galaxy Note II. I just tried going into my gallery while mounting my phone to save pictures on my laptop. I go into the phone (not SD Card), then "DCIM", and finally "Camera" folder. Now I have two "Camera" folders in my gallery on my phone, one with about 48 images in it and the other with over 1000 photos which is where all my photos are automatically saved to when I take new photos. The folder labeled "Camera" only shows me the 48 photos I don't need, but the one with over 1000 photos is nowhere to be found! All other folders there don't show the photos I'm looking for. What should I do?
I also cannot find the folder called "downloads" that contains all images I saved from text messages people sent me. If you need any other info, please let me know.
Additional information is that in my gallery, there is an icon showing that the photos are being saved to the SD card (the Camera folder) but when I look in the folder in my SD card, it shows the photos I took with my old phone, not the ones I am taking now. The "downloads" folder I'm talking about isn't in the DCIM folder at all, and it doesn't have an SD Card icon on it so it should be in the phone. But the "downloads" folder doesn't show me the images I saved from text messages I received from friends it only shows the images and other things I've downloaded on my browser.
Thanks in advance!
I've resolved the problem, thank you! I was wondering if someone could delete this thread? I am unable to do it myself. Thank you!

Does anybody know where this picture is stored so as I can get it and save it. I would love to get it for my new S5 before I do a restore on my S3. Is there any program that would scan my S3 for pictures.
Thanks .

If it isn't showing up in the gallery, you'll need to know the name of it to find it. I would start with going to the My Files app and manually looking through the camera and downloads folders. The location will depend on how you put the picture on the phone originally. Did you take the picture with the camera on the phone? Did you download it from a website? Did it come from an app? Need to know that first.

Hey Thanks for the reply jack man.
I don't know the name of the picture. When you add the picture as a background in messages you have to crop it and then it saves it and it shows up in the picture selection for back grounds in messages. Its that location that i am looking for.
On a good note i did use titanium backup and did a restore data for messages and got the picture back as a back ground option. So i can use it again. But i would still like to know where that picture is stored on the phone.
Thanks for your help.

That still doesn't say how the picture got on the phone in the first place. When you go to the setting to change the background in messaging, it either let's you take a picture or view the gallery to select a picture. Is this one you downloaded? or took with you camera? If it gave you the option to crop it, it was probably in your gallery.
Try opening the My Files app. then click All Files. Then Device Storage. It may be in one of these folders - DCIM (if you took the picture with your camera), Download (if you downloaded it from the web or email), or Pictures (if you moved it directly to your phone from a computer).
It could also be on your external SD card if you have one installed. To check it, just back up to where you chose Device storage, then just choose SD memory card and look in the files there. If it's not in any of these locations, I have no idea. Good luck!
Also, if you downloaded the picture from an app (like Zedge), it may be in another folder that the app itself created for storage.

Yes it used to be in my gallery but it got corrupt and i cant view it any more. It shows up as a blank JPEG now and yes It was taken with the phone. However the picture can still be seen in messages. I would like to recover that picture in messages as it is the only picture remaining.

I've had that happen before. I think I fixed it by connecting to a computer and copy in it over then renaming it. Not sure if that was how... it's been a while. But it was something with renaming the file.
Hope it helps.
Open dcim and check the .thumbnail folder. Might still be in there.
I think its started after the Marshmallow update, when I save picture from chrome its download fine, but not shown on gallery.
When open it after download its show nothing.
The only way to get it shown is to change the name of the picture file (using ES or other file browser app).
Why is that?
There is something to do about that annoying procedure?
Can you elaborate on the process you use for saving the picture from chrome? What are the steps you take for saving it, and where do you save it to?
Any picture, long press, save picture, it saved to 'downloads' directory.
I've notice its happen on long numbers picture names.
On normal picture name there is no problem, the others I must rename it to get it show on gallery.
Very bizarre issue.
Anyone notice this issue and why is it happens? ( not all the time, using the stock gallery and with other viewers as well)

I think it's more of an issue with how chrome saves. Idk. I really want to be able to use the old LG browser they had on the G2 and G3, it was way better than chrome.
Hello!
I'm using the OnePlus 3, with latest OTA update.
I want to know if there is a way to either disable or secure the pictures that appear when you swipe left on the camera, like what happens during lockscreen.
Related to this, I was trying to hide stuff in DCIM\>Camera from gallery, and I pasted a .nomedia file into it. The result is that now I can't see anything from Camera folder in the gallery, but it's a major inconvenience.
I tried using Media Scanner to bring everything back, but the app gets stuck on whatsaap sent images and recordings, even when I specify the Camera directory. Please help.
Thanks in advance!

You will have to remove that file. It will prevent any media scanner from seeing anything in that folder.
You will have to manually move the pics to a separate folder or find a gallery that has a lock option.

Hey, thanks for the reply!
Sorry, I forgot to add that I already deleted the .nomedia file. That would be the first thing you do, actually.

Then there is something in the watsapp folder that is causing the iisue. I cant be sure myself as no one I know uses it.
[Fixed]
Thanks for your suggestion, the pictures started becoming visible because of one or more of these steps:
• I used a media scanning app.
• I restarted the phone, after clearing cache and force freezing the app.
• I just shifted all of the contents into another directory and back.
• Or because I viewed one or two images in the directory, which forced the system into scanning the entire folder, after which the pictures started showing up again.
